This is McDonald's story, his view of the world of hockey. He writes as he plays the game - with refreshing yet hardhitting candor. He won with the Calgary Flames, lost with the Colorado Rockies, and was caught in controversy with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Harold Ballard, King Clancy, Punch Imlach, Don Cherry, Red Kelly, Wayne Gretzky, Tiger Williams, and best friend Darryl Sitler

Oh Lanny. Just as down to earth as you’d think a guy with a giant red mustache would be. I’d kind of like him to be my neighbor. It’s really too bad he wrote this a year (or 2) too early. I’d love his take on the 1989 Flames Stanley Cup run. Hockey autobiographies are among my favourite, and this didn’t disappoint. He’s so wholesome.

This was a great book and Lanny’s tone shines through. The only issue is he write the book before his stably cup win, so I’ll have to find a sequel. The book feels like your out for a coffee and Lannys telling stories. Great read and in particular for flames fans.

Lanny’s voice really comes through in this book. The second half of this book is so heartwarming, Lanny’s work with Special Olympics and the love for his family.

Fun read. Nothing especially insightful, but enjoyable look at the life of a Canadian hockey legend. Written before his Stanley Cup win. Interesting to hear from someone who had not won the Cup yet, but would have been a very different book one year later! Another Canadian story that somehow makes its way through Lethbridge, Alberta.

I thought this was a great memoir done by Lanny and Steve. For most of the book it seems like your with Lanny along the way, you can absolutely tell the book was written by Lanny.

Wrote the book a little too soon. He still had 2 years of career left and a Stanley Cup to win. Only complaint: too many exclamation points!
