The new Y2 teacher at school will be getting this. Her classroom is going to be based around The Magic Faraway Tree so this will be another to add.

It's 270 pages long so aimed at independent readers who are more confident and resilient than those reading The Boy Who Grew Dragons, but will make a good read aloud.

Wildtop Wood is a truly magical place where the trees and wooden animals come alive. There's a treehouse where Iggy, Cal and Mae have become the Treetoppers. They play in the trees; talk to them and include them in the stories and games.

But one day whilst they are playing a group of official looking people with clipboards are at the wood. The children hide and listen but they aren't sure what is happening. Then some of the trees have crosses painted on them. This can't be good so they talk to Sylvie. She finds out that Councillor Thornwood has plans to put new power cables through the wood. But the children see this is wrong. Many of the adults in the village are worried about flooding - will the removal of trees cause a problem?

With help from Melodie and Devin and their son Ro, who run a drama truck that visits villages putting on plays the children come up with a plan. They will put on a play to show the villagers and Councillor Thornwood how important the wood is and they have another helper, Ven, Councillor Thornwood's daughter. But then there is a storm, a big one...

The children are even more determined that the villagers have to see the play. That they and Councillor Thornwood have to remember how important the wood is...turn out her father built the treehouse...

Lovely eco story based on the need for our natural resources both as a place for fun and as a refuge for villages and animals.
