Emma is constantly trying to play matchmaker with Blake and Mandy, and in order to get her to leave them alone, Blake comes up with the ultimate plan: fake dating Mandy.
I really loved Blake and Mandy as characters, but honestly, I think that was pretty much the only thing that worked for me in this sports romance.
For starters, the relationship moves way too fast. We’re supposed to believe Blake doesn’t have feelings for Mandy, but pretty much the second he sees her, he’s already head over heels for her, and then, in the blink of an eye, they’re completely in love. It just didn’t feel very believable to me.
I also wasn’t a huge fan of how the conflicts throughout the book were handled. Most of them get introduced and resolved within the same chapter, so there was never really any time for the tension to build. Some chapters also felt a little boring, and overall, I didn’t really feel like much was happening throughout the book.
Another thing that didn’t quite work for me was how patriotic the book felt. At times, it seemed like the story was more focused on American history, patriotism, and the flag than on the actual romance.
And when it comes to Blake and Mandy’s relationship, I had to constantly remind myself that they’re adults because their behavior gave me high school romance vibes.
I really thought I was going to love this one at first because I was enjoying the first few chapters, but unfortunately, it ended up just not being the book for me. That said, I can definitely see why it might work for other readers!

Awwww Blake and Mandy. What a sweet couple these two were, along with Mandy’s adorable goldendoodle Liberty. Friends to more, plus fake dating, I mean what’s not to love in this whole scenario?
Mandy works at the Smithsonian, an assistant curator and an expert on the American flag (which I now know more than I ever wanted to about but that’s by the by). Blake is a hockey player, goalie for Boston and the Stripes/East team for the America 250 Celebration tournament. They were acquaintances at high school, then Blake decided to make a very public ‘let’s be just friends’ speech and that was that. Until their friends start meddling and matchmaking and he decides it would be better for him and Mandy to fake date and keep them off their backs. To his surprise, Mandy agrees.
I loved these two from the start. There really wasn’t much fake about their dating, even at the beginning. They both had crushes on each other at high school and so quickly fell for each other again, only this time much harder. With both aware there is a timeline for this relationship before Blake heads back to Boston, they made the most of the time together. I thought they were sweet, the dates they went on were cute and thoughtful, with the gala being the ultimate jaw drop moment for both of them. The scene with the bowtie was incredibly cute.
This book was pretty fast paced, not one for the slow burn fans but if you love cute romances, friends to lovers and happy ever afters, you’ll love this.

She’s the assistant curator of the National Museum of American History team,heading up the museum’s American Flags Gallery, displaying preserved original flags from over the years,as well as coordinating replica versions of the flags for the Smithsonian’s Fourth of July parade float, all part of the USA semi-quincentennial celebration.
Here she gets a surprise visitor ,not to see the museum but a personal guest .Her boyfriend she’s told from the front desk on the phone…
Well hold the phone and knock her down with a trombone ,Blake as she lives and can hardly breathe at the sight. Well can you blame her ,he looks dynamite.
What’s more flabbergasting is a proposition ,good job she’s in a seated position after eating cake and a partake of green tea with Blake .
You see. It’s become clear that she gets her wish with this dish , and even though it’s mere fabrication, it does not stop her infatuation.. But her dilemma is this . Fake dating, her heart is racing ,beating so fast. No longer just a friend like Emma at last…

A whirlwind romantic book that is so fast paced it pulls you in to their story and has you wishing them an happy ever after for two ,well three if you include Liberty.
Oh erm Liberty the dog and not the pledge of allegiance you understand, though it was a privilege to read and the storyline grand.
Leah Busboom is a fine author of who I’m fond . Has written a true work of art ,with comic scenes ,hockey scenes and friends who bond . Sparks fly across the sky a celebration across the land and a chocolate cake slice for two . Don’t mind if I do that’ll be grand.

Book 12 of the Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights series is here. With only 1 book left, I have had so much fun reading all these wonderful authors and the characters they have created. This series has been sweet, romantic, chaotic, and perfect. Leah Busboom does a fantastic job with her addition of Our Flag was Still There. I loved the concept of two friends who fake date to keep their friends from playing matchmakers, yet still end up falling for one another. I will also always love a book that showcases a character who knows their stuff and isn’t afraid to show off at times.
Blake has one thing on his mind for the next 3 weeks and that is winning the hockey tournament he is playing in to celebrate the USA’s 250th birthday. As the goalie, he offers a unique perspective on the game and players that we have come to read and love already. He refuses to let his friends play matchmaker for him, so when they start up, he makes sure they know he will only ever be friends with the person they want to match him with. To go even further to keep them off his back, he suggests fake dating, since he has no intentions of falling for anyone. We all know how that goes, right?
Mandy didn’t expect to be friendzoned so publicly, but here she is. She has had a crush on Blake since high school. When he asks her to fake date, after his very public proclamation, she agrees, but due to her nerdiness, she goes above and beyond to make their story plausible. I absolutely adored Mandy throughout this entire book. Her ability to share facts about the American Flag and the Revolutionary War had me cheering for her! Oh my gosh, and her driving!!! When her crush starts to develop into something deeper she isn’t sure what to do though because after the tournament Blake is leaving.
These two were so fun to read about! I have always loved Leah’s ability to write characters that are easy to connect and resonate with. These two were so perfect for each other in so many ways. Their banter is flirty and fun, their chemistry insane, and their romantic moments to appease their friends, so sweet and natural. Watching these two truly fall for each other and finally realizing it was amazing and I couldn’t wait for that moment. This series has been absolutely wonderful to read over the summer.

Unbeknownst to her, her friend Emma is trying to set Mandy up with her biggest crush, Blake, with whom she went to high school.
Here’s the cutest part — Blake has always had a thing for Mandy, but thought she was way out of his league, him being a hockey player. When he told her that they would only ever be just friends, well, you know the universe is going to make a correction there, now that they’re both in DC. She lives there, and he’s there for the Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights tournament.
Blake and Mandy hatch a plan to get Emma off their backs by pretending to fake date. She even makes up a spreadsheet, creating their fake romance, so that they’ll have the same story when someone asks when they got together.
I LOVE Mandy. Spreadsheets are THE BEST!!!
Their plan doesn’t exactly go to…well, plan. Not very far into their fake relationship, they individually abandon their reunion story, simultaneously but separately giving the same story about running into each other and sharing a decadent slice of chocolate cake.
I love how, within only a day or two, Blake starts wishing their relationship was real. He’s gone over Mandy, and is kicking himself repeatedly for ever spouting the “just friends” nonsense. And Mandy, after spending more time with Blake, deep dives into hockey so that she can understand what is going on in the games, which brings them even closer.
There is one little hitch, but it’s resolved almost immediately, and I really appreciated that. I’m not a huge fan of the third-act breakup (looking at you, Hallmark movies), and I was delighted when that never developed into a thing in this story.
Only one more book to go, and then the series is over. I…don’t know how I’m going to cope. Every book in this series has been fantastic, and there has been so much variety in the stories told. Well done to the author with this story, and well done to all the authors whose books I’ve read so far. If you haven’t been reading this series, stop what you’re doing and get the books!

An enjoyable read...The story never takes itself too seriously, and Mandy's flag-loving nerdiness and aggressive driving was a fun opposite to Blake's hockey player hotness. Blake and Mandy were easy to root for, and I enjoyed watching them navigate the chaos of a relationship that was supposed to be fake but was obviously headed somewhere more complicated.
What worked best for me was the overall tone. It's warm, funny, and comforting. The chemistry between the leads was there from the start, and the book delivered the sweet, low-angst romance I expect from Busboom. The setup of Blake giving Mandy a very public "just friends" speech and then convincing her to fake date him was a great setup.
My biggest issue was Blake's transition from "we're just friends" to fake dating to real relationship. I never completely bought the shift. One minute he's determined to keep things firmly in the fake-dating category, and the next he's all in. Since the book doesn't spend much time unpacking what specifically changed for him, the turn felt a little abrupt. I didn't mind that he fell first or fell hard, but I wanted a clearer progression so the emotional payoff would land more strongly. As written, it felt like I missed a chapter where Blake figured out his feelings.
Even with that complaint, I had a great time reading this. The humor, sweetness, and lovable characters carried me through the few bumps in the romance arc. If you're looking for a clean hockey rom-com with fake dating, lots of heart, and a heroine who's delightfully passionate about an unusual interest, this is an enjoyable addition to the Stars, Stripes, & Hockey Nights series. The journey may not be perfectly smooth, but it's definitely a fun ride.

Although Blake was adamant that he only wanted to be friends with Mandy, when they connect again and start to fake date, his feelings quickly change.
This is a cute fake dating, second chance, opposites attract, hockey romance. I enjoyed the differences between Blake and Mandy. She's a little quirky, loves history, and drives like a NASCAR racer. Blake is an athlete, knows how to bake, and is a cautious driver. And they are the perfect match.
I also loved that Blake was a goalie. The rest of the books that I've read in the series, the main characters have been the hockey players fighting for the puke. It's always fun to get the goalie's POV.
I also enjoyed the interesting historical facts that are scattered throughout this book. I learned things about the flag and The Revolution I never knew.

Blake is in Washington D.C. for a hockey tournament. Mandy works at the Smithsonian. Mandy is a quirky history nerd who has had a crush on Blake since high school. Blake made a huge speech in front of their friends and family on how he and Mandy would never be more than friends. When Blake decides they should fake date to keep their friends from becoming meddling matchmakers, he probably didn’t expect Mandy to bust out a spreadsheet and challenge how believable his backstory suggestions are.
I’m normally not a huge fan of fake dating books, but this one hooked me early - probably because of the spreadsheet. As Blake spends more time with Mandy, he starts to question why he was so against the matchmaking in the first place. He isn’t turned off by her spouting random history facts, driving like she races cars for a living, or the fact that she can finish a dessert without realizing he hasn’t had a bite. It was cute to watch these two find their footing, and of course with Mandy’s dog Liberty offering her moral support along the way.
This was a cute story that not only had great banter between the main characters, but also huge support from their friend group along the way.

I’m normally not a huge fan of fake dating books, but this one hooked me early - probably because of the spreadsheet. As Blake spends more time with Mandy, he starts to question why he was so against the matchmaking in the first place. He isn’t turned off by her spouting random history facts, driving like she races cars for a living, or the fact that she can finish a dessert without realizing he hasn’t had a bite. It was cute to watch these two find their footing, and of course with Mandy’s dog Liberty offering her moral support along the way.
This was a cute story that not only had great banter between the main characters, but also huge support from their friend group along the way.

Firstly I must thank the author for my ARC of this book received through Booksprout. This was another 5 star cutie in the Stars, Stripes and Hockey Nights series. What is so great about this series that each of the hockey players given the leading male role in the books is always more than just a hockey player and athlete. Some have come from nothing to being an NFL star and others have had fortunate backgrounds but when it comes to Hockey they are all the same NFL stars battling for cups and giving all to their teams. Our leading male in this book was no different. A really good man who loved his family and his sport and loved the girl he announced publicly to that they were just friends. Blake and Mandy were truly adorable and it was so funny how everybody saw through the fake dating. That Mandy was a little bit of a history nerd didn't stop the handsome sports star from falling in love with her and it was a beautiful story how their romance progressed. Clearly like the stars and stripes on a flag these two were meant to be together. Leah's fans will adore this book and since it can be read as a stand alone I hope new people will read this and become fans.

The Plan was to fake date each other in order to avoid matchmaking attempts by certain friends; and no feelings are to be involved. So Blake Davis, Stripes hockey goalie, convinces Mandy to participate in his fake date plan. Unfortunately he somehow falls for her "for real" despite the rules they agreed to. That leaves him with a secondary "slight problem" since he will be heading back to Boston when it's all over; and Mandy will be staying in DC. Can they work this out somehow? (At least it's on the same coast, if that helps?)

Of course Leah added another amazing story to this series! I can't get enough of this series and I loved getting to know Blake & Mandy! I always love a good fake dating story and Leah delivered. This book will have you smiling like crazy, swooning, laughing and will leave you with a wonderful ending.

Our Flag Was Still There by Leah Busboom is a fun and heartwarming read! I really enjoyed the MMC Blake and FMC Mandy’s story and loved watching their friendship slowly develop into something more. The fake-dating storyline added plenty of fun moments, while their chemistry and banter kept me turning the pages. Mandy was a wonderful character, and I especially enjoyed her quirky personality and love of history. Blake was equally likable, and seeing him realize his feelings for Mandy made their romance even sweeter. I also loved the hockey setting and the adorable addition of Liberty. Overall, Our Flag Was Still There was a charming romance with great characters, humor, friendship, and plenty of feel-good moments.

Another Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights series winner! Blake is adorable; Mandy is quirky. I love Mandy's ability to spout random fun facts! I hate that she ever feels as if she has to rein in that part of herself. I think it's wonderful. It's interesting to me when someone knows a bunch of random facts that help me learn something I probably didn't know prior. How does a man get to be almost 30 and not have dated anyone seriously? Especially considering how good looking he is?! ;) Long distance relationships are definitely hard, but when a couple is comitted to one another, they can make anything work. Look at those in the military!.

I was initially a bit hesitant going in—the fake-dating trope isn't usually my favorite, and the story had a slightly slow start for me. However, I’m so glad I stuck with it!
The fake-dating arrangement wraps up early on, which clears the way for Blake and Mandy to actually connect and get to know each other on a much deeper level. That shift completely won me over. Their dynamic felt genuine, the character development was wonderful, and the plot really picked up momentum once they dropped the act.

Professional goalie Blake decides that American history buff Mandy would be the perfect girl to fake date to get their matchmaking friends off their backs. It’s an opposites attract but she enjoys learning about hockey and him about history. She’s a cake and fries stealer and wannabe race car driver. He beats himself up way too much when his team loses games even though it is a team sport. I would have been scared to get in car with Mandy driving. I’m surprised she doesn’t have a bunch of traffic citations. Blake and Mandy develop real feelings but can their relationship survive the distance? I enjoyed reading more about the history of the American flag and her sweet dog. This was a kisses only romance with plenty of funny and sweet moments.

As sweet as it comes. Lovely, sweet, kissing only, hockey romance. It is so nice to read a simply sweet romance. Wonderful lead characters that have known each other as friends, but decide to fake date to avoid meddling friends. And right away both of them are catching feelings. I love the supporting cast of friends. The nervous fact over sharing of the FMC and constant support and admiration from the MMC. Fun, easy read that would be appropriate for younger readers as well.

This is a fun addition to the Stars & Stripes Hockey series, Mandy and Blake are adorable together, their friends know that first even though in college he tried to put them in the friend zone. Can they fall in love over a piece of chocolate cake?😊Mandy works at the Smithsonian, and I loved her random facts, of course Blake is the goalie for the Stripes team. So to stop the matchmaking from their friends Blake suggests that they fake date, we know what happens here. I loved the flow of the story, the banter and humor, friendships, the history facts that were very interesting and the sweet

This was such a sweet romantic story. I liked how Emma and Blake decided to fake date to keep the meddling matchmakers away. The book was full of humor that made it such fun to read and I enjoyed picturing what I read. I also enjoyed watching Emma’s character grow the more she was around Blake. The two of them were fun together.
Emma’s specialty at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History was the American flag. I enjoyed learning about the history. There were several facts I had not heard before. Our Flag Was Still There was such a sweet way to wrap up the Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights series. I've had so much fun spending time in this world, and this book was the perfect sendoff. Blake and Mandy were easy to root for, and I couldn't help smiling as their story unfolded.
Leah Busboom really knows how to write a feel-good romance. Between the fake dating, the swoony moments, and the fun banter, this one had everything I wanted from a sweet hockey romance. I'm definitely going to miss this series and all of the characters!

Cute romance set in the world of hockey with updates on characters we've met in a previous series.
Fake dating to get a matchmaker off their backs! Mandy and Blake are also classic opposites attract.

Emma is constantly trying to get Blake to date so he decides that he wants to fake date Mandy. Blake falls first but Mandy has always had a crush on him. As a hockey player now he knows he'll be leaving soon but he's not sure long distance would work. This wasn't one of the authors best. It wasn't as hilarious fun as usual for me but I did enjoy it. It's sweet and has a happy ending and I liked reading it but was not the authors best writing.

Blake Davis is the goalie for the Stripes and boy has that man got charm, Mandy the fmc is nerdy and i love her for that. I love when someone is unapologetic herself. She also really likes Blake and yes he is pretty but she likes him for than just that. For her she has a matchmaking friend Emma who with the best intentions keep pushing them together. Even after Blake years ago said let's be friends "ouch"
To help ease the pressure of Emma they decide to fake date. I love this trope. Blake after spending more time with Mandy is completely smitten.

Wowza! This was yet another fabulous story in the Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights series and a hilarious romance from Leah Busboom. Mandy and Blake pulled me in with their fake dating scheme and kept my attention with their easy camaraderie, quick change of heart, and nervous blubbering. My heart was fluttering and my mind swooning all while I laughed out loud throughout this story. Highly recommend this one for a lighthearted whirlwind love story.

A fake dating, hockey romance with all the feels and funny. It's wonderfully written with loveable and realistic characters. It was heartwarming and fun to watch Mandy and Blake's relationship go from "just friends" to so much more. All the interactions between them were entertaining and several had me laughing, I just couldn't stop reading. There were alot of interesting facts and details throughout the book that I enjoyed as well. This is an adorable story filled with heart, humor, love and a HEA that will leave you smiling.

This is my voluntary review of a copy I was given.
I liked this story. The main characters had known each other in school, and everyone they knew was always trying to match them. Blake has a wonderful plan to head off more matchmaking while they are in the same town, around some of the same people they knew back then.
Their plan was good. Their execution... not so much.
It was fun to learn about both of their jobs.

I enjoyed Mandy and Blake's story. Love how it starts up with Blake putting Mandy in the friend zone. That just add so much to the story. I also just have enjoyed all the different hockey books that are part of this series. Love Mandy's character and how she learns hockey. I would highly recommend this book!!
