An Audible Original written by global bestselling sensation Lisa Jewell ('None of This is True'), with a hint of sound design and original music, performed by an all-star cast of Matthew Rhys (‘Widow’s Bay’), Ruth Wilson (‘The Affair’), Phoebe Dynevor (‘Bridgerton) and Harriet Walter (‘Succession.)
A simmering, deliciously dark story of obsession, ambition and the dangerous space between truth and fiction from global bestselling sensation Lisa Jewell.
Fiddy and Louise Stone had the perfect marriage—until Louise became a bestselling author and their world was turned upside down. Now Louise has the money, the fame and all the power. Fiddy has his resentments and he also has Kate—his younger "office wife" who makes him feel seen, understood and appreciated in ways Louise no longer does.
The thing Kate has been watching them both for years. She knows their secrets, their weaknesses, their breaking points. She's been weaving herself into their lives, one Christmas at a time.
Then Louise falls mysteriously ill. A disturbing manuscript arrives at her publisher's office. And the truth becomes impossible to untangle.
Everyone has a story to tell. The challenge is separating truth from fiction.
Her first novel, Ralph's Party, was the best- selling debut novel of 1999. Since then she has written another twenty novels, most recently a number of dark psychological thrillers, including The Girls, Then She Was Gone, The Family Upstairs and The Night She Disappeared.
Lisa is a New York Times and Sunday Times number one bestselling author who has been published worldwide in over twenty-five languages. She lives in north London with her husband, two teenage daughters and the best dog in the world.
All She Wants for Christmas is an audible production following Louise, Fiddy and Kate. Its dark story of obsession, ambition and the dangerous space between truth and fiction.
Ok lets get the production out the way! Absolutely fantastic! For a minute it was sounded quite 'olden days'. I cant put my finger on it but it didn't feel modern until about half way through. With that said the narrators all played their part superbly and it was a pleasure listening along to.
The story itself at one point was confusing the HECK out of me and i kept blinking in confusion and felt quite disorientated. I was like 'is it me or...." ... But when it CLICKED... IT CLICKED!
Touché Ms Jewell! To be honest i may be biased because i would read a new version of the dictionary if she released it, but truthfully i really enjoyed this audio and the cast did a brilliant job bringing the story to life.
Patiently waiting for Ms. Jewell next full length novel release! 🩷
It's always a pleasure and an honour when I get to read an early draft of a Lisa Jewell novel, and when she asked me this morning if I'd like to listen to her first Audible Original ALL SHE WANTS FOR CHRISTMAS I simply cancelled my plans and popped my earbuds in for 4 hours and 33 minutes.
This "short" story is beautifully narrated by Ruth Wilson, Phoebe Dynevor, Harriet Walter and Matthew Rhys and from the opening paragraph I was absolutely captivated.
The term UNRELIABLE NARRATOR is often used in psychological thrillers, however this audio is the absolute DEFINITION.
I did actually message Lisa halfway through as I had a question, but she just told me to continue listening! So I did, and slowly things began to reveal themselves, confusion turned to clarity, providing me with several 'aha' moments, a couple of 'wtf' moments and at least two "I can't believe she did that".
This is a story of her truth, his truth, the real truth and a little bit of poetic licensing.
Great fun, lots of dark, disturbing and damaged characters, some behaving beautifully and some behaving very badly and thoroughly entertaining
I liked this dual timeline muticast audiobook. The same story is told in two different ways. Only the names have changed. Kind of. The guessing game is who the real couple is. There's Eric and Julia. Fiddy and Louise. Both women write a best selling book. Both husbands meet a younger woman who they befriend. This audiobook is only 4.5 hrs but alot of story. Very intriguing. Matthew Rhys did a great job of narration as well as the other narrators.
I enjoyed this book! I liked the narrators and felt like the story was quick however thorough and enjoyable with suspense that kept me intrigued until the end.
An incredible thriller with brilliant production values. It’s like listening to a movie!
Never have I set my alarm extra early, got up and listened to an audiobook before starting work, but when Lisa Jewell releases an Audible Original you know I’m going to be there when it drops! I’ve been excited for this release for months and had it pre-saved from the moment it was available and trust me, it didn’t disappoint! The story is the very best of Lisa Jewell: dark, twisted, has you unable to know who to trust, and totally addicted to listening to it. Theatre production is incredible, with a full cast to bring things to life, with light musical and ambient noise elements to really have you feeling like you’re there experiencing this story. It’s twisted, mysterious, and incredibly engaging. I genuinely couldn’t stop listening!
As always, I loved the themes of the story too. Jealousy and privilege are explored to perfection, and the bow on the top of this gift is how the story tackles perceptions of truth. It’s honestly everything Lisa writes so well! I had so much fun trying to piece together everything that was going on abd the final revelations were so satisfying. Nobody writes unhinged and subtly terrifying antagonists like Lisa!
This was an absolute treat. My Christmas came well and truly early!
Lisa Jewell is my very favorite thriller writer, so I was SO excited when she surprised us with the announcement of a Christmas novella! I do think her books can be a little challenging to follow on Audible because she writes from so many different POVs and introduces so many characters. I found myself wishing I had a physical copy of this one, as I think I would have been able to keep everything straight and appreciate all the details a bit more.
But, as is the case with every Lisa Jewell book, it all clicked perfectly in the end, and I was quite enthralled. I actually figured out the twist just before the reveal! All in all, a very fun little novella to tide me over until next summer’s masterpiece, which I’m sure is coming! ❤️
A short thriller audiobook with annoying music and background chatter noise and a few too many characters that the whole story doesn't make sense until the end. Then the ending is a little dull. There were no real thrills and I was never team any character
A delectable and enjoyable title As an avid fan of British psychological thrillers, I was ecstatic to have discovered this in Audible Originals for no coast. From the very first, Lisa Jewell’s “All She Wants for Christmas” held me captive with her unique characters and unusual subplots. An audictive mystery I found difficult to take a break, I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more. Performed by an all-star cast. Ensemble narrators Ruth Wilson, Matthew Rhys, Phoebe Dynevor and Harriet Walter collaborate exquisitely together. Fiddy and Louise Stone had the perfect marriage – until Louise became a bestselling author and their world was turned upside-down. Now Louise has the money, the fame and all the power. Fiddy has his resentments and he also has Kate – his younger “office wife” who makes him feel seen, understood and appreciated in ways Louise no longer does. Then Louise falls mysteriously ill. A disturbing manuscript arrives at her publisher’s office. And the truth becomes impossible to untangle. A simmering, deliciously dark story of obsession, ambition and the dangerous space between truth and fiction. Everyone has a story to tell. The challenge is separating truth from fiction. Highly recommended? Indeed! Grab this one now. You will thank you me later.
This was such a pleasant surprise as I had no idea this short Lisa Jewell book was being released on Audible! This was very entertaining, thrilling and juicy - it packed a punch for how quick it was! I think I would’ve preferred to read a physical copy, but I did enjoy the narration. It was classic Lisa Jewell and overall a quick and enjoyable read!
The bland, basic prose unfolds a cringeworthy story about unsympathetic and insipid middle-class characters caught up in their narrow-minded selfishness.
"I have a lovely house in London with the woman I love but she finally excelled in her creative artistry to the point she's now a millionaire celebrity, wahhhhhh..."
Really enjoyed the production on this. Listened in one sitting. Keeps you hooked in, I found the main male character pathetic & infuriating. Which is the desired affect. I liked how the story returned to same point year on year. Pretty good overall.
Starting the festive reads but this was as Christmassy as Die Hard! Really enjoyed this audiobook production, but felt the plot needed a little more to make it a standout read. Still an enjoyable listen overall!
I’ve been reading mysteries for over 40 years, so it takes quite a bit to surprise me these days. This one didn’t deliver any mind-blowing twists, and I had a pretty good idea where things were headed. But that didn’t stop me from enjoying the ride.
The premise is intriguing: a disturbing manuscript arrives, you begin hearing similar yet tonally different versions of events, and suddenly you’re questioning which version is accurate. Is this what really happened? Is it someone’s fictionalized version of reality? And who wrote the manuscript in the first place?
What really makes this work is the full-cast audio production. The actors are fantastic, the narrator really sets the mood during interludes, and the different voices bring another dimension to the storytelling. It feels more like listening to a drama than having someone read a book to you.
My only problem? I’m a fast reader. When a mystery gets good, I want to race through it, flip back to check a clue, and see whether my suspicions are correct. An audiobook doesn’t allow for that. I was practically begging everyone to talk faster!
I also appreciated that the story didn’t depend on a jaw-dropping twist to deliver a satisfying ending. Sometimes it’s enough to watch the pieces fall into place and see the characters deal with the consequences of their own spectacularly questionable decisions. And that epilogue? I may have actually said “NO!” out loud.
Was I blown away? No. Was I entertained? Absolutely.
I enjoyed the story, the performances, and the resolution. I’d happily listen to another production like this. Sometimes a well-told mystery with a terrific cast is exactly what you need.
I didn’t dislike this book… I listened to it on 1.5 speed and had it on during a 2 hour bike ride and other parts of my day so finished it in one day. I was very content listening to this story, interested to see where it went, but I felt it didn’t really go anywhere? There was no grand reveal it just sort of finished, no big conclusion and I don’t know, kind of felt like a waste of audible credits?? Like I said, I didn’t hate the story, but there was no crazy plot twist (I felt it was all obvious what was going on the whole way through) and I feel like I could have just read a summary of the story and been happy with it, I’m not sure I could even explain it to someone without giving all the details away. The characters weren’t overly interesting, and honestly this wasn’t a “thriller” a mystery maybe as it was a little confusing but nothing thrilling that’s for sure.
I usually enjoy Lisa Jewell’s books, which made this one especially disappointing. I found the story confusing, the plot thin and uninteresting, and the characters difficult to care about. I kept waiting for something to pull me in, but it never happened.
I know readers can have very different reactions to the same story, but I have a hard time understanding the four- and five-star reviews for this one. I couldn’t help wondering whether some of that enthusiasm comes from affection for Jewell’s work as a whole rather than this particular story. For me this was the least enjoyable book I have listened to in a long time.
It’s free on Audible and short, so devoted fans may still want to try it. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend it—especially when Jewell has written much stronger books.
I believe this was my first read by Lisa Jewell, and probably a strange starting point since this was a short story written for Audible.
This was an enjoyable and interesting story. Loosely linked to Christmas, so could be listened to at any time of year.
There were parts that confused me, and I thought I had misremembered or missed something, but towards the very end I realised that I was meant to be confused 😆
The narrators were good, but one of the female parts was read REALLY slowly. Had it been a longer book I would have moved up from 1.0 speed.
All in all this was entertaining enough to earn 3.5 stars.
Audible - 3.25⭐️ 0🌶️ 2.5🖤🖤🖤. It was a free download on Audible, and I was in the mood for something a little different. I thought the ending was migrating to a different conclusion. I really didn’t like the end. What I was hoping would happen didn’t materialize. Kate is clever, I’ll give her that. But I really love Fiddy and feel sorry. with how his story ends. And don’t get me started with Louise. She ends up being such a conniving bitch. HER money and we’re not even halfway through the book.

🎧 A fun, dark little holiday thriller! All She Wants for Christmas by Lisa Jewell was a quick, 4.5-hour listen that kept me intrigued. I was a little confused in the beginning trying to keep track of all the characters as the story jumped between different perspectives, but it all came together in the end! Full of obsession, secrets, messy relationships, and twists. Definitely not your typical Christmas story! 🎄🔪
I could listen to Matthew Ryhs read the back of a cereal box and be entertained. Was this predictable, yes. Were there very many plot twists, no. But… the full audio production was outstanding and I loved all the actors and how they brought the characters to life. Lisa Jewel is the queen and her writing is always a good time.
This was a pretty ok listen. Given it's a short story, Lisa Jewel has done well to create the intrigue you need for a book like this. Was there a lot missing? Yes. But honestly, if you want something quick and easy, a little intriguing and something better than your daily commute, then this books worth a listen.
A quick and easy festive thriller. I found Fiddy to be a very irritating character, the stereotypical man-child that is threatened as soon as his wife starts experiencing success in her career and was very pleased with the end of the story for him. I felt sorry for Louise and everything she had to go through but she was better off by the end of it. A predictable read but fun nonetheless.
What an early treat… this was amazing, not your usual audible I felt like I was in the story, it created a whole production feeling with the background sound etc it was a wonderful new experience. The storyline equally great, jealousy, resentment & success 👏🏼
This was really cleverly executed for such a short story!
I really loved how you couldn’t work out which perspective was the truth until the very end, it kept you on the edge of your seat and guessing the entire time!
Entertaining read ... thanks to the author & Audible for making this available during my promotional trial - another completed book to add to my GR 2026 challenge! Kudos to the voice actors, too!
