Really tried to like because it was hyped alot but didn't happen for me. Only thing that kept me reading was the mess of the story line. The Writing style did nothing for me neither did the third person narrative. It was very hard to follow and keep up with the story, it was all over the place.

This kind of story hits hard because it stacks trauma on trauma, especially with Luca. When a character loses every foundational relationship—parents, sibling, safety—and is still written with vulnerability and emotional depth? That’s intentional. The Masterpiece clearly wanted us to feel that weight, not just observe it. Luca is resilience. Even with everything stripped from him, he’s still capable of forgiveness, communication, and emotional maturity
Nova and her misdirected trauma, I get it. She knows who actually caused the damage (her father’s world, the mob, the consequences of that life) but how she went about it, smh. Like I know that was your father but shouldn't he hold some accountability for his actions. It was in fact his actions that put Nova and her mom in danger. Luca's father stood on business while his trash brother was on something else. He would have been my main focus but instead of processing grief properly, she projects it on to the whole Bonetti family.

I love how Masterpiece didn't shy away from Luca disability. She gave Luca's disability, nonverbal a chance to shine… from him signing and switching to his voice. That’s not easy to write well, and she handled it with care. That kind of representation tends to make characters feel even more real, which is probably why everything else hit harder.

At first I didn't like Roy but he was solid and right. Lucille is dog sh*t and the twist that was connect with her had me in a chokehold. How do you do that and let that happen to your son just to keep a secret. I need Lucille to get hers and fast in part 2.

I'm sad for Luca at the end of the book , he lost two important people however one of them I'm not that sad about after all he taught the Uncle to be who he was and to do what he do in the end

As I’ve already said, this book messy as hell and Masterpiece even messier for writing it cause just what in the hell. Baby everybody crossing everybody in this mf except Roy & Luca it seems like 😭. I loved Luca he’s my favorite kinda MMC: a cold-blooded killa but soft as cotton for the woman he loves. I honestly don’t know how I feel about Nova… On one side I absolutely get it because I’d want to avenge my parents too but on the other side heffa you don’t let my boy Luca fall for you I don’t care how hard it chased. I get it from Nova’s POV tho, truly. This was a very good read, SO much drama. I can’t wait to hear more about Roy. And Di Luca? Oh great heavens I can only imagine what’s about to go down.

Lucille can go to hell.

This book is a love ballad if pain recognizes pain. If the lyrics to SWVa weak weak is a book, this is definitely it. Masterpiece wrote a phenomenal story that is nit filled with glitter rainbows and great smeschx. She wrote a raw love that makes you want to know how it ends. A love that shows beauty is not just skin deep. Chokehold for sure!

This book was such an emotional read, but it was beautifully written from beginning to end. The saying “there’s a thin line between love and hate” perfectly describes Luca and La’Nova’s relationship. Their chemistry was undeniable, and no matter what they went through, they just couldn’t seem to stay away from each other.

Aht aht. The FMC, Nova, is Luca’s love interest, but she’s also tied to his brother Kentrell, who’s a cokehead, and she smokes cigarettes. Naw. I don’t like my MCs getting sold short, and vice versa. Ew.

Then the writing threw me off too. There was a part where Luca was with Roy, but the scene transitioned into talking about Lucille and her business. Then Luca asked, “What’s in the bag?” and I thought he was talking to Lucille. Whole time, I’m like, wait… isn’t he with Roy? Yeah, you see how confusing that sounds? That’s exactly how confused I was.

That was three strikes. It’s not for me.

Waaay too much internal monologue

Good grief... if I had to bet there was only 4 total pages of actual dialog. Pages upon pages of internal monologue that didn't fit the actual spoken dialog and cadence of the characters. It felt like two authors. The overly detailed descriptions or just emotions were perfectly written. Then the characters speak and it falls flat. There was no levity in this book just morose.. i started skipped literally paragraphs b/c why are we not able to have dialog between the freaking characters. I will not be reading the next book. There’s no interaction, just straight inner dialogue. There’s also a different pov each paragraph, not chapter, paragraph. One minutes it’s Luca, next it’s Nova. Also, I don’t like Nova. I already feel like the author is selling Luca short by making her of all people his love interest. Just the weird relationship with his brother alone shouldn’t have made her a contender to be the FMC. Add in her heavy use of cigarettes and it’s a hell no for me. And I already can tell Lucille, Kentrell, and the brother Lennox on bull. It’s just overall not that good to me.

Luca is not your average 🥷🏽. He doesn’t process or think the way other men did. Ya boy was calculated and detail oriented🫣. Being slightly nonverbal didn’t stop anything as his right hand Troy stepped in when needed, just heightened his other senses of that makes sense. Him losing the only person that showed him love while doing a bid wasn’t an easy pill to swallow and I felt for him😔. With now stepping up to take to roll off the “Don” of the Mafia and finding his wife, ya boy main focus was finding out who’s behind the mess within his family. When I say he looked at everyone as a suspect, that’s exactly what he did - mother Lucille wasn’t exempt🫣. Can we talk about the wife aspect, he didn’t even get to meet who he was to marry cause when seen La’Nova, everything else didn’t matter. Ya boy took claim immediately🤭. The trial and tribulations between the two gave me a headache and stressed me out but I understood it. Their trauma was slightly their bond, until the true surfaced. That truth🫣. Family can be your biggest enemy and opp that are not exempt from consequences. Finding out your brother Kentrell and uncle Lennox played a part in his father demise, Luca had no issue with serving it nice and cold 🤭.

La’Nova is a woman who is still grieving after witnessing the loss of her parents at a very young tender age of 9yr old😔. Ya girl made some bad decision that going to affect her in a way she wasn’t ready for - Bonetti Family🫣. Oh girl done signed a check her butt can’t cash once she came face to face with Luca. Though my girl tried to ignore what it was, a heart knows what it wants. She never expected to fall for any of the Bonetti men as they were the enemy!or so she thought🫣. Downfall is ole girl secrets. When that secret was exposed I was left speechless. Though the love is there, the trust is not.

Lucille is that trifling parent that feels it’s all about her😒. Only that, she was a conniving sneaky thang. She honestly thought she could control Luca but got a rude awakening as she didn’t know her son the way she thought 🤭. I truly hope her karma comes because she’s as disrespectful as they come.

Listen when I say there’s so much to chat about I mean just that. I honestly loved it. The flow great, character development and backstory top tier. QUEEN you did that. The way I’m wanting to know more about Capo. The entire family has too many secret and disloyalty at it finest. That Lennox,Lucille and Kentrail was a pain in my butt. The grandfather though. I loved EVERYTHING about this read.

A Don eat Don World

This book was such a powerful exploration of grief, tragedy, consequences, and the weight of inheriting your parents’ choices. LaNova and Lucas were especially heartbreaking because neither of them truly chose the circumstances that made them who they were. They were forged from grief, loss, and decisions made long before they ever had a say in them.

Their relationship was such a complicated journey—from enemies, to lovers, to enemies again, and somehow finding their way back to each other. It felt like they were always two broken halves of something that could have been whole, trying to figure out whether they could put themselves back together and forge something new from all the pieces they had been given.

What really stood out to me was how the story showed the cost of being involved in the mafia. The consequences don’t just fall on the people who choose that life. They spill over onto innocent people, families, relationships, and generations who never asked to be part of it. The choices of their parents created circumstances that LaNova and Lucas were forced to inherit, and watching them struggle with the consequences made their story even more tragic.

There was something heartbreaking about realizing that so much of their pain was inherited. They were trying to survive a world built by people before them while carrying grief that wasn’t entirely theirs to begin with.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was dark, emotional, messy, and tragic in all the ways a dark mafia romance should be. LaNova and Lucas’s story wasn’t just about love—it was about grief, survival, generational consequences, and whether two people who were broken by the same circumstances could become something stronger together.

Definitely a good read if you enjoy dark romance with complicated relationships, morally gray characters, family legacies, and plenty of emotional turmoil.

What did I just read? 400 pages of chaos. 400 pages of mess. 400 pages of trauma. 400 pages of mind-blowing twist and turns. While this story was written in third person perspective, the author’s writing style does keep you entertained. It’s not for everyone and some people will struggle with this style. However, I think an omniscient narrator helped to set the scene and create context as there is a quite a web of deceit being spun in this story (several, actually), and it’s interesting to see how each character plays a part. The way in which the author crafts Luca is very intricate and nuanced. In himself, he is oxymoronic and paradoxical: hard and soft, good and evil, callous and loving. The latter adjectives of the pair only visible to his loved ones, in particular La’Nova. Their relationship is not built on sexual chemistry. I actually found it refreshing that this wasn’t just about sex and there is depth to their relationship. They are indeed trauma bonded and both become a cure and cause for each other’s pain. It’s a soul tie forged before they even met. Based on all that transpires, their love is not sustainable or healthy, but that doesn’t make the reader want it any less for them. I think their chance at love has been taken away but there’s a little something pure about these two broken and misunderstood souls coming together to try and find some beauty in a life that has dealt them some unkind cards. Reading this book, a line Romeo and Juliet springs to mind “my only love sprung from my only hate”. You have to read it to find out why this is a prevalent theme within the book. I’m looking forward to book 2 and will be starting it straight away.

My only issue: lack of attention to detail with the proofreading and final editing. However, it doesn’t take away from the brilliant storytelling!

Secrets on Top of Secrets

I really enjoyed A Don’s Love. This was an interesting, layered story about Luca and Le’Nova, two people whose love felt almost impossible because of the circumstances surrounding them. Honestly, with everything between them, most couples would have either stayed apart or one of them would have ended up dead behind it.

What stood out to me most was how much time Masterpiece took to actually develop the characters. Luca and Le’Nova were not just thrown together for the sake of romance. Their emotions, trauma, choices, and connection were all given room to breathe. I especially appreciated that the book was written in third person. A lot of urban romance leans heavily on first-person POV from each main character, so seeing this story told in third person made it feel more intentional and more layered.

The storyline itself was brilliant. Luca coming home from prison and having to deal with the death of his father, the family dynamics, the secrets, and the deception made this more than a simple romance. There were layers on top of layers, and every time I thought I had a piece of the truth, something else came into play.

I also would not fully call this a mafia romance. The mafia element is there, but it sits more in the background. At its core, this is really about family, betrayal, grief, survival, love, and the kind of secrets that can destroy people.

The relationship between Luca and Le’Nova was raw and complicated. I understood their connection, but I also understood why they may not be good for each other. There is a lot of love there, but also a lot of trauma, pain, and broken trust. That made the story feel more realistic than a clean fairy-tale romance.

My only issue was that the book could have been tightened in some places, and the editing had a few moments that stood out. But overall, this was a strong, emotional read with a storyline that kept me invested. I am definitely interested in seeing where the next book goes.

The couple are ment for each other a couple made in heaven with scars of the past . The moment that the touched each other scars was the beginning of the love story . Luca is very protective of his soon to be wife and he not let her say no because that his beauiful queen and he learns his deadbeat older brother has twins on Cain and able and he going to be their for them . His bestfriend and brother Roy is his right man wil go to the end of hell with him are getting this family into a better light . This story was a great read and masterpiece did it again with this one .

4.5⭐️ Authoress Masterpiece needs to go ahead and drop book 2 because I need to know how Lucille’s trifling ass gets taken out. Of all the ain’t shit mothers and terrible wives I’ve read, she’s worked her way up the list.

It was interesting to see the cycle repeat between Dontrell/Lennox and Luca/Kentrell. Like father like son I guess. I’m just glad Luca and Roy came out on top. Cain and Abel have the best uncles. It’ll definitely be a new Bonetti reign with them running things.

I was rooting for Luca and La’Nova to not end up together. Despite how hurt he is, I’m glad that’s where they’re at right now. There’s too much trauma for them to ever truly be happy with each other. Especially since La’Nova expects Luca to trust her while not trusting him in the same way. And the fact that she still has yet to start learning ASL even though she knows how much it pains him to speak is actually ridiculous. How can you claim to love someone and not make any effort to communicate with them in a way that is painless for them.

I’m excited to see Roy and Serenity find their way to each other.

Wow! This story had more twists than expected. I loved the tone of Don, Luca's story of behind the man and how he came to be. The meaning of his nonverbal or the whispers. Luca is a strong and wise man. But to have so many enemies so close, your entire life is hard. Secrets on top of secrets actually kept this empire from flourishing to it's true potential. This includes grandpa Di Luca. Nova is a complicated victim/survivor in this story. The love story between Nova and Luca is not textbook. Do I want them together, as much as I know they are attracted to one another, but not necessarily good deep down for one another. I'm surprised she's not pregnant. Truth be told, thesedamn twins are more like their smart mouth Uncle Roy than anyone will admit. These three are a joy throughout. Lucille sealed her fate! But do believe Luca will find his one. But Nova will be a negative constant reminder of a great pain, as he could for her as well. Looking forward to Roy's story because he too has to find live and peace as well. Ready for another good time!

I got a chance to read this before it was even released. And see her process, and it was a time and reading it a second time through fully. I am just in awe of how amazing of a writer masterpiece is. She really took us on a journey that didn't end in a happily ever after. Or even a happy for now, it was really like a d*** There's more to come, and you better buckle up? The soul tie that was between Nova and Luca was literally palpable. The fact that they felt each other in such a deep way was nerving and exciting. And also painful and full of hurt. Every character in this book was flushed out so well and I can't wait to see what Roy's book contains, because I know the story is just going to get deeper and reveals so much more. Sis really deserves her flowers like she deserves all the praise for this book. I dare say this might be my favorite book now by her.💜

Just when I thought I had the A Don’s Love: The Bonetti Family all figured out, Authoress Masterpiece said nope, we not done yet. And BABY, she meant that.

This book is nothing short of phenomenal. From the very first page to the last, I was locked in. Couldn’t put it down, and sure as hell didn’t want to put it down. The emotional rollercoaster alone? Whew. The trauma, the love, the chaos, the butterflies blooming in belly page after page was Grade A+. Every chapter was layered and written with such depth and intention, it pulled me deeper and deeper into the story.

I’m not even about to spoil nothing for y’all, but just know…when you think you ready? You’re not. 😮‍💨

At its core, the story shows that forgiveness is possible, but you never forget and sometimes what we think we want isn’t truly what we actually want and we realize that a moment too late. “Every Don has his day” whew ain’t that the truth! A Don’s Love was a good read for me. The story quickly captured my attention by introducing the Bonetti family while they were at the funeral of the Don. Once things popped off, I was locked in and I was eager to see how things transpired. I was immediately drawn to Luca’s character because there was a darkness to him that really made me feel sorry for him, more than anything. The story featured two flawed characters, family secrets, revenge, twists and high expectations for the new Don. It was very descriptive, the flashbacks were timely, and things flowed well. I liked the ending and I cannot wait to see what’s next for this crew because Ms. Lucille got some nerve! And listen, the twins had me cracking up with their bad tales. Hopefully Nova can be the mother figure they need. 🫶🏾

I really enjoyed A Don’s Love by Masterpiece, and I’m so glad I picked it up now that Book 2 has been released—I can jump right into the next installment!

I love a good urban fiction story, and this one delivered with plenty of twists, secrets, and drama that kept me turning the pages. Luca? Whew… he can whisper to me all day. 😮‍💨

Both Luca and Nova Baby carry deep scars from betrayals that neither of them saw coming. Their shared pain pulls them together, but Luca soon realizes that Nova is both the cause and the cure to one of the biggest battles he’s facing.

If you enjoy gritty urban mafia romance filled with power plays, betrayal, family secrets, and a forbidden love that never should’ve blossomed at first sight, this one is definitely worth the read. I’m ready to see where their story goes next.

A perfect example of "It's complicated"

A VERY good read. Let me start by saying, I don't think I've ever really disliked a fictional character as much as weak ass Kentrell and his tired ass daddy. I felt my lip curl whenever they came across my screen 😒. I could see Roy's story coming from miles away. I wasn't really feeling him either, but we'll see what he's talking about later. My only gripe with this read is I loathe books with characters that are in their heads for pages at a time. But in this case it was absolutely necessary. The line between love and hate is so fucking thin, man. I felt this one. I haven't read a book that made me cry in a long time. Definitely 5⭐

Hurry and bring Roy tired ass on, so can see what he got going on.😅 💪🏾
