Right Hand Red
Harry/Draco Fanfic
Harry felt Malfoy's breath on his lips as they came together over the bottle, hands firmly planted on the floor as though they each needed their familiar soil, refusing to cross into enemy territory.
Except that Malfoy no longer felt like his enemy.
Malfoy felt inevitable.

I grew up reading fanfic and once a year I find myself rediscovering my love for it. This was absolutely the best one I’ve read this year, and one of the best stories I’ve read including the other 50+ books I finished. Highly recommend

Another really enjoyable "Drarry." I especially appreciated the conceit of all of them returning for "8th" year since they'd mostly missed seventh year. The idea just made sense. Due to lack of space, all of the eighth years live together and the dynamic the students from the four houses establish in the new post-war world just felt incredibly believable and satisfying. Obviously key to that is Draco and Harry, and the authors establish a blazing chemistry between them from the beginning, building on the Draco we saw in the final book of the original series, but adding depths that original never bothered with.
It's a classic fandom move: for most of the series Draco was a evil-meanie caricature, designed to appeal to young readers' preference for having clear-cut bad guys to hiss at. But it was never particularly satisfying, especially since Tom Felton's charismatic performance in the films hinted at someone a lot more interesting. So it was up to fans to tease out that buried potential--the results in the handful of fics I've read have been a revelation.
Bottom line: loved this.

March 13, 2015Not bad, but not great either.
What I found most jarring was the fact that the Slytherins and especially Draco were instantly accepted. Lip service was paid to how changed Draco was, but their past was never discussed.

I loved every minute of this fic, it was SO good, well written, well characterized, everything I could want in a Drarry fic.

I have tried to read this one before but it never grabbed me. This time when I tried it I devoured it. We are back with everyone for Year 8 at Hogwarts following them as they try to have a normal year. Harry finds himself drawn to Draco and is not sure what to do about it. I really liked this one and can see why it is on many peoples favorites Drarry fic. The author does not disappoint for sure!

pure filth. and what of it.

I put off rating/reviewing for a couple days to see if my feelings would change over time and they really haven't. I think this fic started off well, pretty strongly even, but I don't think that same strength carried on to the last quarter/ending.
For those first three quarters or so of the fic I definitely enjoyed the story and the direction things were going. The characterizations were good, the plot was enjoyable, and those games the 8th years play in the RoR were very hot with lots of sexual tension. My favorite thing about this fic is how, unlike with a lot of Harry/Draco fics, Harry came to easily accept his attraction to Draco, that he dwelled on it for a while but didn't have that blown out of proportions freak out so many authors give him.

Clearly I'd gotten my hopes up about this fic too much because from that moment on I stopped caring about the story. A lot of the things Snape said didn't feel like they were in his voice (not everything he said, but there were some striking dissimilarities where it went from 'Snape's voice' to 'Snape on feel-good potion juice') and literally everything about . Truthfully I just got so annoyed with that bit of miscommunication between Harry and Draco that I lost all interest in the fic from that point on and I only finished so I wouldn't have to add yet another story to my dnf pile (because I think 6 stories in March alone is high enough for that month).
I'm still feeling disheartened by this fic. I don't think I'll be reading anything by this author again and I'll be staying away from HPDM for a while so that these negative emotions don't influence my initial thoughts about a new Harry Potter fic.

Harry sat in his big gay chair with his pounding gay heart and what was left of his throbbing gay erection, and it was all so bloody clear, he didn't know whether to feel immensely relieved or scared out of his mind.Yet more awesome is how every time the characters had moments of miscommunication, those moments didn't last. The characters talked things out within a couple paragraphs. Every time! And then... and then I got to the last quarter or so and things changed. For some reason the author, who had been doing so damn well with not using miscommunication to move the story along, suddenly felt it was the only plot device that could possibly be used.
Because he wasn't just gay. He was gay for Malfoy.
And that was a whole new level of acceptance.

Drarry, what’s not to love!
I really can’t fault this fic at all, it gave us all the familiar 8th year drarry tropes and my fave - the patronus! If anything, I would’ve have loved it to be a little longer and perhaps a little trauma bonding between the whole group. I know they had the moment playing truth or dare but I wish it was expanded a little more.
Deffo at the top of my recommendations for drarry!

Yet another delightfully funny, and steamy, feel-good Drarry fic.
I bought a crap-ton of new books this week, my TBR will most likely cause an earthquake if it falls over, and yet, all I want is more Drarry...MOAR, I TELL YOU!!!!
And I'm enjoying it so much, I'M NOT EVEN SORRY!

Really cute.
Such a nice buildup, fallout then a resolution 😍It even had a dose of mystery
I loved how it stayed true to the HP events, and the character's emotions made a lot of sense in the aftermath.
I never thought I'd add fanfics on GR but here we are

Kjut plážové čtení o tom, jak Harry kazil nejen studijní výsledky Dracovi.
Zápletka předvídatelná a celkem rychlá, ale o tu tady asi nešlo :-D.

Me: *starts reading after barely glancing at the tags* *opens notepad to start taking notes* *pauses*
Me: Wait a minute-- Right Hand Red??? Is that a TWISTER REFERENCE?!
Me: ho ho ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Notes:
- Omg, I absolutely love the idea to start this where they first met: Madam Malkin's! I think it was a great first...meet-cute? I suppose.
- I'm already going feral. I love a good eighth-year fic. It'a giving a good amount of slow-burn, which is my favorite.
- STOPPPPP A FERRET PET?! LMAO, HARRY
- I love the focus on how the school is being run and getting everyone acquainted with the new setting. It feels like reading Harry Potter for real, almost.
- Omgggg and the handshake?? This is bringing everything full circle. I love it. I LOVE IT.
- Lowkey not a fan of the attempted Snape redemption, but it feels like something the original books would do.
- Oh my god, they really are gonna play Twister.
- And we get Luna & Draco too?? I'm spoiled here.
- I think there should've been some stakes to the Twister game, because they're both so awkward and embarrassed that I needed a reason for why they're putting themselves through this.
- The hole in the wall... This is gonna be good. I do love some good old-fashioned eaves-dropping.
- The duels are great; it's honestly such a good way to show that they have met their match! Powerful Draco and even more powerful but less technical Harry are my favorite. Draco is canonically very smart, and Harry powerful for his age, but neither one really gets properly emphasized in the original books.
- LMAOOO Harry just day-dreaming about Spin-the-Bottle. I love how he's going in with a plan.
- It's all just so fun. This fic really makes the Hogwarts students seem like real teenagers.
- BRO I was just THINKING: SOMEBODY'S GOTTA INFLUENCE THE BOTTLE WITH MAGIC. Like, THEY'RE ALL WIZARDS. And lo and behold... devious Draco.
It's actually so well done, because it was literally foreshadowed. Just before this, we were talking about wandless magic, and Draco mentioned knowing quite a few spells since he lost his wand, even showed off a wandless wingardium. Now that's good storytelling, right there.
- Oh, LAWD. They just WENT FOR IT. In front of EVERYBODY.
I am rolling around my bed and screeching.
- Seriously, the world-building is amazing. Everything feels so vivid.
I loved this scene:
- Ok, Snape is way too OOC. Redemption arc dispute aside, he is most certainly not acting like himself here. Him being nice to hearing and even bringing up his love life UNSOLICITED was jarring. He was giving me the creeps.
- i wish there was a bit more relationship development outside of the sexual, because I can't see them interacting much outside of that space.
- Looooved Draco getting introduced to Harry's car.
- Gonna add McGonagall to characters who feel weirdly OOC because in no world would she casually bring up Harry's sex life like that.
- Ron's reaction just being "I knew it" when the two blunderbusses finally kiss in the Main Hall.
- Nahh I can't take the dramatic, tearful farewell with Snape seriously. Fuck that guy XD
- Overall, great ending!

I loved this scene:
Harry ended up staring at him all through Charms. They were supposed to be working on Atmospheric spells, and Harry dully registered that it was rainy on his right and windy to his left.
"Mr Potter." Professor Flitwick tapped him on the shoulder. "Your assignment was snow, not the steams of sunshine with which you seem to be bombarding Mr Malfoy."
"What?" Harry startled.
Sure enough. Draco glowered at him from a blinding shaft of golden sunlight that struck only him.
"Sorry," Harry said to Flitwick. He shot Draco an apologetic smile.
Draco rolled his eyes, swished his wand, and encased himself in a bank of fog.

Right Hand Red: ★ ★ ★ ★ . 5
lq_traintracks
Tropes:
– Draco/Harry fanfiction
– Enemies to lovers
– 8th year
– Secret relationship
– Forced proximity
All the 8th years are put into one dorm so when party games bring Harry and Draco real close together, it's hard for them to not let it... twist things up (hehe).
Ah this was cute!!! I love a secret relationship in the 8th year. This book also has some pretty good (and HOT) art that I loved seeing as I was reading. I liked the slow development and I'm a sucker for Harry's POV when he's pining big time, for some reason. Plus, I loved the inclusion of Snape and how he was a DADA professor who helped Harry find his own way too. So good–the 8th year ones always hit.

The attraction was well written and the pics were naughty, but in a fun way. But it was super corny, Draco's character changed in completely unrealistic ways, and the extended speeches about their feelings just aren't my favorite thing. I like moody angsty Maya H/D best, so this kind of fluff isn't my favorite but it's really good if you like that kind of thing.

4,5 rounded up to 5, because it was one of the most fleshed out fanfics I’ve ever read. It wasn’t perfect, but the characters where believable and distinct, the world truly Harry Potter and the story nicely developed. I believe that it will be enjoyable to you even if you’re not a Drarry shipper.

8th year Drarry, which is usually an automatic favorite. I think the RoR and the games after the first round started to lose my interest. Put down for quite a while, but glad I finished. Really more 3.5*. However, I can't ignore the fact that I put it down for over a month and was fine with that.

Great lil 8th year in three parts. Loved Snape returning and the sweet rebuilding moments (sniff sniff). The slow-build between H and D was lovely, as well as the returning 8th years getting to know each other. Overall, very decent, good writing, and made for a lovely evening.

I felt so good to read Drarry fanficton after a very long time! Right Hand Red is so easy to read and i like how writer portrayed character development. I enjoyed reading it however I felt like it should be longer and more detalied.

The storytelling was so captivating. I loved the bit with Snape and the portraits, it was an incredible closure and just added an extra layer to this fascinating world. It was also funny and hearty, great writing all around. I absolutely loved it, one of the best fics I've read in a while.
