The Haunting #3

The Haunting of Blood Manor

Rate this book
First, there was the haunted asylum.

Then, a haunted hotel.

Now, there's a haunted manor.

I know what you're thinking. Is it really haunted?

Thomas Sutherland says it is. He's been living with it for sixty-two years, which is either evidence or a very long commitment to self-delusion.

As a parapsychologist who studies apparitional experiences, it makes sense that I investigate — along with my team, Riley and Gabriel.

Riley wants data. Gabriel felt something before we even reached the gate.

Me? I wanted to understand what happened to the investigator who came here five years ago. He stayed eighteen days instead of three. His blog ended mid-sentence.

Blood Manor isn't the kind of haunting that attacks you in the dark.

It's the kind that gets inside you quietly. And by the time you notice, it's already been there for a while.

I noticed too late.

4.5 stars! I was IN THE MOOD for this. SO SPOOKY. I actually got a little scared reading this in the beginning and it had everything which made such a good haunted house story. I also do love the continuation of reading all about this paranormal investigative team. I’m invested and excited for more. It didn’t quite hit 5 stars but man I enjoyed this.

4 1/2 stars

I love being part of Jack's Patreon because I was one of the first to have access to this book. I have loved this series! It's different from his Asylum series (which will forever be my favorite because I'm biased) but I have enjoyed everything he's written.

Can't wait to see what he comes up with next!

The Haunting of Blood Manor leans more into a classic ghost story than outright horror, focusing on atmosphere and lingering spirits rather than nonstop scares. It’s a solid read and kept me interested, but it definitely feels similar to others in the genre—nothing wildly new or unexpected. While I enjoyed it for what it was, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it followed a pretty familiar path.

The typos killed it for me

I like Jack's stories. Loved the Asylum Confession books. I couldn't finish this one. The typos did me in. I overlooked the first half dozen but then I was pulled out of the story every time I saw "it's" instead of "it is" and it didn't make sense.

It was an okay reaf

Conflicted on giving this a 3 or a 4. The book felt different from the previous two. There were times I had a hard time keeping track of time in the narrative. I did like the end though and how things lead to it.
Thank you for the wonderful read.

I was very disappointed.

Lets first say that I LOVE the first 2. Murder Hotel is definitely my favorite. I fell in love with the series. So I was super excited when Blood Manor was released. But after reading the book, it felt totally disconnected from the other 2.

The book felt rushed and didn't flow well at all. The editor did a poor job because there were many mistakes.

Spoilers Ahead:

There wasn't a clear plot. We know there was a ghost in the Manor. She was binded to it. We dont know why, just basically she was tricked into it. For what reason, we don't know. Its never explained. What was the purpose of binding her to the house? How did the family benefit? For another unexplained reason, she fed off of gifted people by taking their gifts. Also doesn't know why this is happening and how it benefit her or the house.

The timeline is off. In some instances it says they were there for weeks....others referred to their stay as days. There wasn't any clarity of the passing of days and nights.
The end of one chapter, Riley comes up from the basement into the kitchen, set the books on the table, reads a line, calls Blackwood, then go to find Hannah. The very next chapter, hes walking up from the basement with both books in his hands and Hannah is at the table......what!!??

On day 1, Hannah knew the "secret" of the family lineage and rituals and how many people were offered to the house/ghost. She had the conversation with Thomas. But then throughout the whole book they kept bringing it up as if it was new information.

There wasn't any clarity of the ghost. We knew it was Eliza but she was barely seen. Whenever she manifested it was just bright white lights. And her presence was felt with pressure. So boring.

There wasn't a haunting. There was a ghost mentioned in the book but not a haunting. There's a difference. There was no action. She didnt do anything. Even breaking her bond was a let down.

There is no connection to the last books. No mention of the girl Riley started dating in the last book. No romance between Hannah and Gabriel. Nothing. Like the first 2 books never existed. Where's the history? The building and growth of the characters?

I'm a fan of Jack Steen and love his haunting series but this was definitely a miss.
