Yoyo is in love honey and, the only thing she has time for is her man and her job. Priest is everything she's prayed for and more. He’s loving, he’s generous, he’s present, and he’s packin’ a very heavy third leg. 😏😏😏😏😏 Yoyo has never had a man treat her so well and she just wants to bask in her bubble of happiness. My girl was so deep in the trenches of love, she started ghosting her sisters. But, things were goin’ a lil too well between Yoyo and Priest so much so, I kept sayin’ to myself, “Lawd, I hope Priest ain’t on no f*ck shyt.” And, here he come on some f*ck shyt. 😒😒😒😒😒 Now, Yoyo is heartbroken and plottin’ her revenge. And, you know what they say. The best way to get over someone is to get under, on top, or in front of someone else. 😏😏😏😏😏 Priest learned very quickly not to play in Yoyo’s face. Ms. Mamas said, she ain't the one or the two. Yoyo was a really good book. I was strugglin’ tryin’ to find my next read and my girl Rashawnda came in the clutch when she recommended this book. I loved everything about Yoyo. The mess was top tier and the plot twist get back plan was pearl clutching. I could’ve easily read another 100 pages. This was my first book by Rae Andersone but, it definitely won’t be the last.
4.5 stars I love Rae's writing, it feels like poetry in motion and this short was no different.
Aoki aka Yoyo was head over heels in love with Priest. Every ounce of free time she had was devoted to him and he greedily accepted it. When she realizes she may have been neglecting her family, she starts to see things a little differently. That foundation she laid with Priest had cracks in it and it hurt. Her sisters were right there to support her. I loved how we got a little personality from them all. They didn't allow her to wallow and cry, they gave her the space to grieve the relationship and their support allowed Aoki to figure out what she wanted to do. When I say sis got the ultimate revenge, whew. I loved the messy, drama of it all and Priest deserved that gut check. I was so heated for her, but then it was like an uno reverse card was played and it ended perfectly.
Did I want more story? Yes. Would it have had the same impact? Probably not. She gave us so much in such little time and the love, pain, and revenge were all felt.
The writing is beautiful it’s poetic it’s fun it’s everything. Loved the sister dynamic and the love displayed here. I also normally am not too into revenge tales lmaoo but this was GOOOD. I just need a lil more tho lol I can’t wait to catch up with them all
This was a short story but it was good. As women, sometimes we tend to forget our friends when we get wrapped up in a relationship and that’s exactly what Yo-yo did. She forgot about her 5 sisters including her twin and was all rosie eyed over a man that was actually cheating on her. She decides to seek revenge and you’ll just have to read it for yourself to see who she sought out the revenge with. But overall I had a good time reading it this and left with some jems. It’s a 4.5🌟for me!
Ate it right up! This was so good. Rae Anderson writing is soooo beautiful, you can tell she has a poetry background. I also love the hoodoo references as it sits close to my heart. This was a perfect revenge/getting back to self novella. My first from the author but I’ll def read more.
I know.. I know it's a novella BUT I WANTED MORE!!!! When Rae Anderson came across my IG I went down a rabbit whole of her books. Immediately was intrigued by the Baptise sisters. It had all the ingredients I love-- Family/sisterhood, hoodoo witchy sh*t and a sprinkle of spice.
Yoyo "fell" in love and all she saw was her man, rightfully so. But it was to the point that she wasn't showing up at all. Even though she was a little caught up I loved how her sisters showed up but not only telling her, her sh*t stank but showing up when she began to smell it. How real they were with one another was refreshing, being real with your people is important- it only makes the bonds stronger.
She realized that her sisters were team Yoyo through it all which also allowed her to look at them in different light. To value them more than she had.
Lesson: No matter how much time you spend with a person it won't stop them from cheating. And he really thought it was rational. "A change of taste". "Something on the side to break the sameness" (WTF!???) But he was so in love with Akoi (ummmhmm)
I was NOT expecting her get back to be that kind of get back.. but shawty got back. Although I don't quite know how I feel about that, I'm glad that she did what SHE wanted to do and didn't stick around. She saw those texts and got tf.
I do have a whole heap of questions: Priest you ok? ( I don't really care for real). Why didn't he run in an and crash out? What kind of relationship do him and his father have because Nas didn't give 2 sh**s!
This was an enticing get back and wake up call for Aoki. Sometimes people get wrapped up while in relationships and have to come out of the blanket to smell some air on the other side. Don’t forget your peoples who was there before the relationships and don’t forget yourself as well. Aoki aka YoYo learned a good lesson in adulthood but also got her get back expeditiously🤣. I’m gonna check out more of author Rae’s books this got me intrigued!
Listen Yoyo literally is Me.. the push and pull between what you should do in a situation that affected you compared to what you actually should do but baby she hit totally different cause Ms. Ma’am said I got Something to Show you.. Chess not Checkers.. Definitely loved this short read
Girrrrlllll! I loved this book! Loved the sisters and all of their banter. I loved the execution of Yoyo’s get back BUT I needed him to hurt a little more. I wanted him physically ill and out his mind with grief. Good lil short read.
This was beautifully written. It was funny and a great show of sisters supporting one another. It also had a wonderful plot, which I didn’t see coming! Bravo 🙌
