No Place Like Home
Liam and Wren have accomplished the near-impossible: buying their first home. The house isn’t in the safest neighbourhood, is in desperate need of repairs, and is the result of the previous owner defaulting on their mortgage, but at least they finally won the bidding war. With a limited budget, it was all they could afford, and with endless plans to transform it into the home of their dreams, they’ve never been happier.
Until the previous owner, Monica, turns up at their door.
Monica begs them not to renovate, under the guise of the home holding years of important memories for her family. Liam and Wren initially brush off her strange request, but when she begins showing up almost daily, she pushes their boundaries beyond limits, destroying the dream they’ve worked so hard to accomplish. Strange, unsettling discoveries in the house only add to their unease, and Monica’s timing is too much of a coincidence. Has she come to take back what’s hers?

a young couple buy a fixer upper house. the previous owner keeps stalking them
she was married, now divorced. she lost the house
she had son who was kicked out of school when he was 6. hes very violent with no remorse
she keeps telling the new couple not to renovate the house. they found what looked like a huge blood stain under the carpet when they tore it out
she keeps coming back, they installed cameras
then the girlfriend emails her x husband which i think is a huge mistake! he answers her that he found a new woman.
they found a jar of human teeth in the attic and gave them to the police
when shes cleaning the water from the roof leak the board under the bed comes up and she finds all these letters she think is from the owners wife. but it said her husband was found dead in bed, when she talked to him thru facebook so shes not sure what is going on.
her and her boyfriend are fighting about the house, he didnt want it in the first place and now they are in debt, cant fix the roof and cant sell or they will be out too much money.
they go to the address in the letters (instead of calling the police) and find the girls . but the boyfriends buddy shows up. it was him. he holds her with a knife to her throat. then his other buddy shows up with the woman thats been stalking them
he had called the police but they didnt get there fast enough. the man killed the stalker lady
the police free the girls and her boyfriend is in the hosp with a knife wound to his leg but hes ok
when he comes home he proposes to her and she says yes

No Place Like Home by Brianna North; 3 Stars
Wow. I really enjoyed the plot of this book and all the clues and twists and turns. At the halfway mark, I said this would either be a great thriller or very confusing. I appreciate the work North put in to allow all the different storylines to converge, and the plot was very enjoyable. What I didn’t enjoy was the FMC, Wren. Her constant judgement of Liam, the continuous use of “whatever,” and “anywyas” at the end of sentences came across as flippant and juvenile. Wren and Liam are the same age as me, and where I can certainly appreciate the frustrating navigation of the housing market, complicated family and relationships, I wasn’t rooting for her, and I think that is really important in a book like this.

It started off great. The plot revolves around a couple who has just purchased a house and since it was their life long dream, they put most of their savings into it. They start renovating it and like magic(not actual magic ofc xD), the old owner of the house apparates in front of their house to meddle and pester them to not renovate. Something or the other keeps going wrong and they don't have 1 uneventful day in the house. Women keep disappearing in their area and the girlfriend keeps panicking over everything while the boyfriend is way too laid back.
The writer has a lot of potential. I like her writing style. It's somewhat like old veteran writers and I have missed that. The way Alex Michaeldes writes, the way Anthony Horowitz writes.
Yayys;
1. The story is gripping, it makes you wanna read until the end
2. Multiple red herrings, which I like since you don't know who dun it?!

Wren and Liam find themselves as first-time homeowners after the house's previous owner defaulted on their mortgage. The house needs repairs, but they’re glad to have a place to call their own regardless. With a limited budget, Wren and Liam gradually work on their planned renovations. Everything goes well until they catch Monica, the previous owner, hanging around the property. Monica begs them not to renovate her house, and becomes more persistent and invasive the more they ignore her request. As Wren and Liam continue to work on their renovations, they discover more strange things about the house. They soon realize that Monica’s hiding something. While trying to uncover the truth, Wren and Liam grow increasingly weary of the house as they learn more about Monica and her past.
No Place Like Home had me hooked from beginning to end. This book was so addictive. I kept telling myself “just one more chapter” until I had read them all. Monica’s constant persistence freaked me out an ungodly amount. She irritated me like no other, which is how you know she’s a very well-written antagonist. I found Monica’s motives really interesting, and I hate that I found myself empathizing with her at times, especially given everything she does throughout the book. Wren and Liam were a lot nicer to Monica than I would’ve been. I thought Wren was a great main character. She’s sympathetic to Monica at several points throughout No Place Like Home, even though she knows she probably shouldn’t be. I thought she was really sweet, and I really enjoyed following her throughout the story.
I found the pacing of the book to be absolutely perfect. It’s suspenseful, but fast-paced enough to keep the reader engaged. The inclusion of the letters also made the plot more interactive. I had quite a lot of fun trying to piece all the information together, even though many of my initial deductions were incredibly wrong. The twists were unexpected, and they’re good twists too. I loved how everything that happened in the story felt plausible, because sometimes thrillers can take things a step too far.
This is the first book I’ve read from Brianna North, but I loved her writing style so much that I’ll definitely be picking up more of her work! If you want a psychological thriller you won’t be able to put down, this is the book for you!

This is the kind of thriller that makes me ignore my to-do list and just keep flipping pages.
Liam and Wren have just bought their first house, and it is not exactly the dream home they had in mind. It needs a lot of work. And the neighborhood? Not exactly giving “forever home” vibes. But houses are expensive, and sometimes you take what you can get.
Then Monica shows up, lurking around the house a bit too often, peering in like she’s got unfinished business. When Wren and Liam confront her, she claims to be the former owner and makes it clear she is not thrilled about their remodeling plans for what she still calls “her” house.
Hold on, Ma’am. The paperwork says otherwise.
Things go full-on creepy when Wren finds Monica actually hiding inside the house. No way. I’d be dialing 911 so fast. Instead, they go for cameras. Clearly, they’re braver than I am.
And just when you think it can’t get weirder, they start finding random creepy stuff hidden. This fixer-upper comes with way more than ugly carpet and weird wallpaper.
Then there are chapters from a mother dealing with her unruly son. These sections are a total curveball, and I struggled to connect the dots. The mother’s battle with her defiant, even frightening, child and her unsupportive husband was unsettling and heartbreaking.
When the strange items started appearing in the house, I couldn’t stop reading. I was desperate to find out every twist and secret hidden in those walls. And believe me, there were a lot!
Now I am desperate to know if a sequel is on the horizon, because I am absolutely ready for round two.

This book definitely takes you on a wild ride where you can’t tell left from right or up from down.
There is a lot going on here: stalkery neighbors, hidden letters, sex trafficking rings, dark secrets, and homeownership basically being the worst thing that can happen to a person.
That said, my personal homeowner trauma has involved leaking appliances and surprise expenses… not jars of teeth. 😳
Wren’s path to figuring out the truth is chaotic in the most stress-inducing way possible. Sis accuses basically everybody at some point and honestly? I couldn’t even blame her.
Tiny spoiler without details: you can only have so many similar names in one book before I start yelling “RED HERRING” at my Kindle. But to be fair, it absolutely kept me guessing.
One thing I did appreciate was the discussion surrounding trafficking and the complicated emotional reality for survivors. A few years ago I learned (not surprisingly) that where I live in Las Vegas has one of the highest per capita rates of sex trafficking in the U.S., and it’s also (more surprisingly) a major issue in parts of Canada – where the book takes place. Specifically Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta.
Books like this remind you that from the outside it’s easy to ask, “Why didn’t they leave? Why didn’t they go to the police?” but trauma, fear, manipulation, survival, and loyalty are incredibly complicated things. Many of the women in this story have endured unimaginable horrors, and I appreciated that the book didn’t oversimplify that reality.

No Place Like Home was one of those thrillers that completely pulled me in from the very first chapter. As someone in the middle of buying my first home, I probably could have chosen a better time to read it—maybe after I was actually settled in. But I read it anyway, and I have a feeling this story is going to be lingering in the back of my mind on closing day!
What made this book even more special for me is that Brianna North is from my hometown of Sudbury, Ontario. It's always exciting to discover such a talented author with roots so close to home, and I'll definitely be recommending her work.
Brianna does an incredible job building suspense while creating realistic characters and emotions. The mystery unfolds at the perfect pace, revealing just enough to keep you guessing without giving too much away. Every time I thought I had everything figured out, another twist proved me wrong.
The atmosphere was tense, the pacing was excellent, and I found myself constantly wanting "just one more chapter." Which is exactly how come I finished this book within 24 hours of picking it up. It's exactly the kind of psychological thriller that keeps you thinking long after you've finished the final page.
I can't wait to read the rest of Brianna North's books. If they're anything like No Place Like Home, I know I'm in for an incredible reading experience.

But then a stranger tells them to leave her house alone, starts to behave strangely, and even threatens them. They soon find out that she was the previous owner of the house. This was my first book by the author, and after reading it, I'm interested in exploring more of her work. There were quite a few twists (some more, some less obvious) that kept me eager to discover what had really happened. It was a relatively short read, and I finished it in one sitting. It felt fast-paced to me, and the dual perspective - what is happening in the present and a woman’s story from the past - slowly tying everything together, captured my attention from the very first page. Wren and Liam have bought their first house. It's not perfect, it needs work, and it's not in the best area but hey... Homeowners! Better than renting, especially in this economy.
At first, things are okay, but then Monica shows up. The previous homeowner. She doesn't want them to do up the house. She won't stop going on about it. She won't leave them alone. And then Wren and Liam begin noticing weird things. Items in the attic. Letters. Teeth. Odd stains. And of course there is the whole women in the area going missing too.
They try to ignore it... Until they simply can't.
Wow, that was wild! Wren and Liam were such a good couple. I was so scared for them. Especially Wren. And everything Monica was saying was PISSING ME OFF!! I know there wouldn't be a story without it, but Monica please! Let them enjoy their new home!! It's not yours now!
The book gets pretty intense as you can imagine and I raced through it, desperate to know what would happen. Brianna is awesome at writing thrillers! I didn't know how it would all conclude. I was guessing right until the end!
If you like thrillers, get this book! If you've just bought a new house, also get this book... Nothing like being wide awake!

🏠 There is a general sense of anxiety due to the constant strain of unusual discoveries and hidden secrets. Wren often feels that Liam dismisses her concerns, but he begins to witness the same occurrences, and the plot then flips on its head!

This was one of the most effective thrillers I've read in quite a while.
What stood out most was how believable everything felt. The characters were realistic, the dialogue felt natural, and their reactions to the increasingly strange events around them made the story feel unsettling plausible.
The tension builds gradually, turning small concerns into genuine dread before you even realize what's happening. As someone who owns an older home, I could even relate to some of the anxiety surrounding repairs, bad neighbours, and the feeling that something just isn't right. That realism made the story hit even harder.
The pacing is excellent, steadily escalating the suspense without ever feeling rushed. And despite spending the entire book trying to figure things out, I never saw the twist coming.
If you enjoy psychological thrillers, slow-building dread, unsettling neighbourhoods, and stories that make you question what's really going on, No Place Like Home is well worth adding to your TBR.

As someone who owns an older home, I could even relate to some of the anxiety surrounding repairs, bad neighbours, and the feeling that something just isn't right. That realism made the story hit even harder.
The pacing is excellent, steadily escalating the suspense without ever feeling rushed. And despite spending the entire book trying to figure things out, I never saw the twist coming.
If you enjoy psychological thrillers, slow-building dread, unsettling neighbourhoods, and stories that make you question what's really going on, No Place Like Home is well worth adding to your TBR.

This book successfully confused me and kept me guessing, and there were certainly parts I loved and found hard to put down, but ultimately I found that I wasn't particularly fond of the central couple and didn't believe they were that great together, which kind of ruined it for me.
I was on their side to figure out what was going on with the house and Monica (and massively sympathised with all the renovations to be done and their creepy findings like the possible blood stain and jar of teeth, nevermind Monica's harassment), but the way that Wren thought of Liam came across like he's not all that great, she doubts him, predicts his negative reactions to things and he's kind of self-centred. I almost wanted him to be the baddie(!) as it never felt like a team effort - more like Wren figuring it out on her own whilst Liam told her to stop overreacting 🙄
Don't get me wrong, it's a very enjoyable thriller with brilliant twists, I just have "buts" so I have to rate it a 3. This would be a fun one to discuss at a book club though, I would love to discuss Monica!!

Great book by a new author for me. I love to support Canadian authors. This story is very intriguing and the woman stalking the new homeowners is so unreasonable. Yeah I understand that memories can be attached to a place (believe me, I’ve actually knocked on my childhood homes door asking to see inside - so maybe I am a little crazy too), but asking new owners not to renovate is weird and frankly quite suspicious. I actually really enjoyed this story though because it feels relevant… buying a new house and wondering about the history of the place and previous owners… and the possible mysteries surrounding the house… all super intriguing. Also, I may just want to buy a house with a mystery attached lol. I read this book in one sitting. 4.5⭐️

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of No Place Like Home, and from the very first chapter, I was hooked.
We follow Wren and Liam as they take the exciting leap into first-time homeownership, expecting a fresh start and an exciting new chapter together. But instead of finding their dream life, they quickly realize something far more unsettling is waiting for them.
No Place Like Home had me constantly second-guessing myself. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, another twist completely changed the game. The pacing kept me turning the pages, and the suspense built perfectly without ever feeling overdone.
The author masterfully gives readers just enough clues to make you feel confident in your theories—only to pull the rug out from under you in the best possible way.
If you love suspenseful thrillers with clever twists that keep you guessing until the very end, I highly recommend picking this one up!

I had a hard time figuring this out because once you think you did.. you don’t.
A lot of suspense to pull you in and when you think you have it figured out you don’t!
I really enjoyed this book and if you are a thriller reader this should be added to your TBR!

she keeps telling the new couple not to renovate the house. they found what looked like a huge blood stain under the carpet when they tore it out
she keeps coming back, they installed cameras
then the girlfriend emails her x husband which i think is a huge mistake! he answers her that he found a new woman.
they found a jar of human teeth in the attic and gave them to the police
when shes cleaning the water from the roof leak the board under the bed comes up and she finds all these letters she think is from the owners wife. but it said her husband was found dead in bed, when she talked to him thru facebook so shes not sure what is going on.
her and her boyfriend are fighting about the house, he didnt want it in the first place and now they are in debt, cant fix the roof and cant sell or they will be out too much money.

What a ride! I was hooked from the very beginning. This story did not go where I thought it was going at all. I love when a book has me constantly thinking and guessing, and this one definitely did that!
I loved the flow and writing style, which had me wanting to read chapter after chapter without stopping. I resonated a lot with the MFC, and I truly loved the relationship between her and the MMC. The twists and action were amazing! This book completely threw me for a loop, and I never would have guessed where things were heading.

wren and liam are finally moving...after so many devastating nos they finally get a yes but 14 Waverly drive comes with a whole lot of work and love that will need to be done to it. But what they don't know is the house won't be the worst part of it all. Monica starts showing up often...the previous owner at first it is a little annoying then it progresses to straight up terrifying. That mixed the weird things wren and liam keep finding around the house and the missing girls in the neighborhood this house is turning into a nightmare. When Wren finds a couple of letters under the floorboards the whole thing takes a sinister turn and now they realize they are working with very dangerous people. Who is Monica? And what was she doing in this house?

The tension builds with every page, weaving a tale of suspense that keeps you guessing at every turn. As the layers of mystery unfold, the characters’ hidden motives explore the fine line between trust and betrayal. This is a must-read for anyone who loves a story that will keep them on the edge of their seat, questioning who can be trusted right up until the very last page. Had me reminiscing of my own homeownership battles! (Not quite to this extreme, but could relate with the home project and buying nightmares!)

I’ve read and enjoyed a couple of other books by Brianna North, so I was looking forward to No Place Like Home, but wow! It’s definitely my favorite by this author. North is a master at taking everyday situations and ramping up the tension until she’s delivered a thriller, and this story is no exception. I knew Wren and Liam were in trouble the second they purchased a run-down house in a borderline shady neighborhood, and when the previous owner showed up, my suspicions were realized. But don’t misunderstand me. There were twists, turns, and surprises up to the last second. No Place Like Home deserves a place on your TBR—or better yet, in your hand.

I really enjoyed the MFC as she is definitely relatable. You never really know who you can trust and what’s going on around you. Lots of important topics (with possible content warning for some readers) but definitely important issues that are discussed. I do recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller. You wont want to put it down.

This is the first book I have read by Brianna North. I enjoy discovering local authors from Ontario. This story sucked me in right away. It was definitely a page turner and easy to read. The protaganists and location were relatable and appealing. It was fun trying to figure out who the villains were. There was so much suspense that had me gripping the edge of my seat. I loved this book so much that I devoured it in a week—which is saying A LOT for me, considering it usually takes me a year to finish a book! 😂
The short chapters kept me flying through it, and the suspense had me constantly wanting to read “just one more chapter.” I also loved that it was set in Ontario, Canada—it made the story feel that much more relatable and real.
Every time I thought I had things figured out, I quickly realized I absolutely did NOT…and that made me love it even more. Such a good read!

4.5* I liked this one. It had me engrossed early on. The MCs were likable and easy to cheer for. It had me up way past my bedtime!
Will definitely be looking up North’s back list.

I originally reached for this book, because the author was Canadian. Always love supporting fellow Canadians. However, this book is one of my favourites I have read this year! Poor Wren and Liam buy their first house, and are struck with disaster after disaster. I was floored when everything started coming together, and couldn't put it down until I got to the end. If you love a book full of secrets and lies, this is a must-read.

I had so many questions throughout the whole book! Which is something I love, when it can keep me guessing so that I have to get the answers. The last 10 or so chapters sucked me right in. Wasn’t planning on finishing the book but here I am.. done! I can totally recommend this book to anyone who is remotely interested in thrillers and loves the suspense! Let’s just say Wren and Liam go THROUGH IT!

This was a great thriller. I thought I had it figured out, but I was completely wrong. There were many unexpected twists that made it next to impossible to want to put the book down. It wasn't a long read, but it was long enough that you didn't get bored. I love that it takes place in Ontario as that's where I am from.
