The sobbing that took place while reading this book was ALARMING. I’ve never cried this much reading a book. Aubree has never disappointed me but this is my favorite book of hers yet.
God has a funny way of placing people in your life when you least expect it but when you need them the most. This is a story of forgiveness and new beginnings. Letting go and finally living.
Sweet Lick Ernie was One of a kind. He will remain embedded in my brain for years to come.
Remedy was one hell of a FMC. To watch her selflessly care for others while she was losing her self… just for “FRANKLIN” to come along and knock those walls down. Two people coming together because of one wild card to potentially a happy ever after????
Perfection! I love when two damaged souls find love in each other, the kind that heals them both, together and individually. I could read a Waynesville tale over and over. Ernie was such a character, he had me laughing nonstop, and his son really found him at the right time. This book had me smiling, crying, and swooning. Who would’ve thought a stripper, an ex-military man/“retired”hood dude, and a retired pimp would leave my heart so full?
This might be the easiest five stars I’ve given all year.
No hesitation. No debate. Just straight excellence.
This book was INCREDIBLE. Beautifully written, layered, emotional, and deeply intentional. Aubree Pynn is truly in a league of her own because how do you keep dropping banger after banger like this??
In this story, we meet Remedy Worthy, who is barely holding it together. The weight of her past is heavy, and it’s something she’s carrying every single day. But despite everything, she refuses to fold — especially because of her elderly neighbor turned best friend, Ernie, who needs her just as much as she needs him.
What she doesn’t realize is that this unlikely friendship? It’s the very blessing she’s been praying for.
Then we have Erys Moore.
Fresh out of the military after 15 years, known as one of the deadliest men walking — and emotionally? Completely shut down. He’s been conditioned to suppress everything, so when he’s called back home to Waynesville, he’s not expecting to feel anything…
But coming home forces him to confront parts of himself he tried to bury.
And somehow, in the middle of all that… he finds healing in the most unexpected place.
⸻
Let me tell you something…
The emotions this book pulled out of me?? INSANE.
One minute I’m laughing. Next minute I’m crying. Then I’m swooning, kicking my feet. Then I’m ready to fight somebody. Then I’m right back in my feelings again.
It was a RIDE.
Now let’s talk about Remedy and Ernie — because that relationship?? Beautiful.
The way they showed up for each other, loved on each other, and became each other’s safe place?? Yeah… that did something to me.
And when Erys enters the picture trying to “help” but lowkey making things more complicated until Mr. Ernie had to step in?? 😂😂
Baby… when that man cut UP at that nursing home, I was HOLLERING.
⸻
This is how you write a romance.
We didn’t just get told these characters were falling in love — we got to WATCH it happen.
Every moment. Every layer. Every wall coming down.
Watching Remedy slowly step into her softness instead of always having to be strong?? That hit DEEP. Because that’s real. That weight a lot of Black women carry — always having to hold everything together — it’s exhausting.
So to see her finally have a man who said, “you don’t have to do that anymore… I got it”??
Yeah… that meant something.
And Erys?? He STOOD on that.
When it came to Remedy, he handled BUSINESS. The way he addressed the people from her past?? 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
They thought shit was sweet… and quickly learned otherwise.
⸻
And listen… the spice??
😮💨😮💨
Yeah… I wasn’t mad at it AT ALL. Put me through a mattress too while you at it 😂
⸻
I also loved getting a glimpse of Eden and Max again — that felt like a little gift. And the way Eden poured into Remedy?? That conversation about fear and choosing better for yourself was BEAUTIFUL.
But let’s be clear…
Ernie?? That’s my man.
Favorite character, no question.
He was funny, wise, accountable, and full of love. The way he showed up for both his son and Remedy?? Yeah… he was everything.
⸻
I could honestly keep going because there are SO many moments in this book that hit, but I’ll leave it at this:
This story is full of love, healing, accountability, and growth.
And if you pick it up?? You will not be disappointed.
Read it immediately.
Book: His Remedy to the Madness Author: Aubree Pynn Genre: Romance Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🥵🥵🥵🥵
4⭐️ I truly ate this up from beginning to end so much so i was losing sleep not wanting to put this down. This was so fun yet beautiful at the same time. I loved Remedy as a FMC and how strong she was from the very beginning and the romance between her and Erys?? PLEASEEEE. The burn was so good, from hate to love!
“You sure this is what you want?” “Wanted you since you slapped the shit out of me. I’ll show you.”
Then don’t get me started on Sweet Lick Ernie! He had me laughing out loud and his story hit close to home for me with his illness and everything. Then the familial healing that took place … Ugh, this was so good!
Here are some more of my fav highlights:
“I love you. Without question, without worry, without bounds. I love you,”
I’ve never needed anything like I’ve need you, Remedy. You’re my remedy, you calm my chaos, you make me feel things that I’ve never felt before.” — He was down bad, periodddddd!
This was a masterclass in storytelling. I cackled, I swooned, and I cried real tears. I fell in love with these characters from nearly page one.
Sweet Lick Ernie is a GEM! If there were literary Oscars, give him the Best Supporting Actor without hesitation.
Erys and Remedy delivered a dislike-to-lovers arc perfectly. Their banter started off fiery and biting, then slowly softened into inside jokes and something tender. I loved watching that shift happen. We see him disarm her, gently pulling her into softness. He saw her at her core and affirmed parts of her she’d never had reflected back before. And she redeemed him in her own way. Bringing peace to his internal chaos, helping him mend his relationship with Ernie, and recognizing the light and goodness in him when he couldn’t.
Watching them come together to care for Ernie, while also facing hard truths about themselves, was beautiful. They both had to confront the idea that they weren’t unlovable, that they were worthy and deserving of good things.
I loved every single page and honestly wouldn’t change a thing.
Aubreé had me crying on the plane 😭. Literally read in one setting and based on others reviews, I knew something was coming, I just didn’t know what. Ernie was hilarious. Erys and remedy felt like a true enemies to lovers situation. And trust me, I loved the banter and tension between them. these two did so much healing together and I loved that most.
I was surprised when I saw the release for this book because I didn't see it coming! So I went into it "blind". This is one of those books that you didn't know you needed! It breaks your heart, makes you laugh, and puts you back together! It touches on serious topics in a way that's just real! I don't want to spoil it. You just need to read it! There's no miscommunication and no third act breakup up! Its almost like an enemies to lovers with a slow burn feel and just enough tension... its just so well done. Aubree Pynn has always been one of my favorites and this book just solidified it! One of her best works hands down!
Remedy gave me the vibe of all vibes. She did not take any mess from anyone. So just imagine she would meet an old Pimp's son and fall for him. Mr. Ernie was a hoot and a holler in this story. I could see his old pimp pastel suits and cane. His son Erys would learn in enough time that his father wasn't as bad as he'd thought. It took Remedy loving his old man with warmness and care long before Erys was able to see the big picture. The ending was teary good. I loved this story and the characters. 4.5 stars.
This was such a beautiful love story. I laughed. I cried a few times. I truly enjoyed reading this story.
Remedy is barely making it by in life and the only light in her world is her elderly neighbor next door. Erys has returned home from retirement trying not slip back into the darkness that’s had a hold on him for the last 15 years. One voicemail left from his father and plans with an old friend, leads him to come across Remedy. She might be his remedy to cure him from his inner demons and he might be her safety from falling into despair.
I loved how they both loved on eachother and made eachother comfortable enough to show eachother their soft side. Remedy truly has a heart of gold that should’ve been handled a whole lot better in the past. Erys is truly a wonderful lover and provider. Ernie is the star of the show ! I love him the most.
This story started off really strong but overtime it seemed to lose its steam. After Erys moved them in the romance seem to instantly take off without necessary build ups like date scenes that could support the forming of their relationship. Also some things left me puzzled. What was Cherie running from ? Why did Ernie do what he did to her ? Was may around when Cherie was? How is Erys going to takeover for Big Rod given everything that’d be at risk and everything he already has on his plate.
The story was good overall. Just missed a few marks for me.
I don’t even know how to explain what His Remedy to the Madness: A Waynesville Love Story just did to me… but I’m going to try.
Aubree Pynn didn’t just write a love story she wrote something raw, aching, and painfully beautiful. This book feels like sitting in the middle of a storm and realizing the calm you’ve been searching for was a person all along.
Remedy Worthy’s pain? You feel it. Not in a distant, “oh that’s sad” way,but in a heavy, chest-tightening, can’t look away kind of way. And Erys Moore… he’s not your typical broken hero. He’s quiet devastation. The kind that creeps up on you and then suddenly you’re emotionally wrecked at 2 am questioning everything.
What makes this story hit so hard is how real it is. Grief, loneliness, healing it’s messy here. There’s no instant fix. No perfect love swooping in to save the day. Just two people, carrying worlds of hurt, somehow finding something that feels like hope.
And that question lingering the whole time “is love enough to heal what life has shattered?” it stays with you long after the last page.
This isn’t just a romance. It’s survival. It’s redemption. It’s the kind of story that quietly breaks you… and then puts you back together differently.
This beautiful beautiful book tugged at all my heart strings in the best way. I cried for the FMC that just wanted to know why and for the MMC that just needed his father’s love. It was so beautifully written and composed it’s almost indescribable. To have somebody come in and see you when you feel unworthy and unlovable because that’s how you were made to feel all your life is next level intimacy. Being treated less than her name Remedy, was what she was used to until she met her sweet, funny aging neighbor Ernest aka Sweet Lick Ernie. She had been mishandled by everyone that was supposed to love her except her grandma May who had passed. He treated her like the daughter he never had and she treated him with a mutual respect by looking out for him and his home. In a whirlwind night they encounter his son Erys whom he hadn’t seen in years because of several things. Forcing his way in their lives and uprooting it started out as a recipe for disaster. He and Rem bumped heads until he begin to let the control take a backseat and see their world through a different lens. His bonds with his dad and REM started looking up and he begin to allow Remedy in and she did the same and they calmed the chaos and storm in their own heads and hearts. GOD helped them in his divine way by way or Ernie connect and build something so real and raw it became the ultimate remedy to all the madness they’d endured. It was a very powerful message regarding letting time pass without making amends and growing and dementia for those with it and those that are the caretakers as well. Easily a 10/10
Remedy was a woman with a terrible family and the weight of the world on her shoulders, and her only friend in the world was her eighty-year-old neighbor with dementia. Erys is a man with a dark past who's been away from home for the last fifteen years. So imagine his surprise when he comes home and finds a smart-mouthed woman caring for his estranged father.
Remedy and Erys were two broken people who found solace in each other, but as much as I loved them, sweet lick Ernie is the star of the show here. He was funny and had so much heart, and the way he gravitated to and protected Remedy in his own way was so endearing. Watching the progression of Ernie's disease and how it also brought Rememdy and Erys together simultaneously broke me down and built me back up. As always, AP did her big one.
One thing, miss ma'am is always going to do is deliver a good a** story. The burn was slow but it was amazing. Watching Erys and Remedy fall in love and heal each other was everything. Remedy was such a feisty character. Really trying to just get through life. The best way she can and her having a friend in ernie that friendship was literally everything... Hand me sitting up here, wishing I had an old a** x pimp bestie 🤣🤣. I like how everyone kind of healed each other through this book. All three characters really relied on one another and it was necessary in their healing process for them.To really lay everything out on the table. I'd totally had a feeling about remedy, and her parents at least one of her parents, and I was right detective hat secured. They were all basically punk b**** ass n******. I will have to say though my favorite character with sweetlick. Ernie, that old man had me giggling. Even through his decline in health, he was still able to be there. For his son and his daughter, no in-law. Miss penny, just can write her a** off, and there is literally not one book, I don't like by her..
Aubree never lets me down, and this book was no exception. I felt everything while reading it laughter, tears, even moments that had me ready to scream and somehow, it all felt perfectly balanced. The bond between Ernest and Remedy was undeniable. They didn’t just love each other they needed each other. Remedy truly lived up to her name, becoming a source of healing for everyone around her, even while navigating her own pain. After a life marked by mistreatment and the loss of the one person she felt truly supported her, watching her still show up with love and strength was powerful. One of my favorite parts was how her love for Ernie helped mend the fractured relationship between father and son, while also allowing her to grow and experience a kind of love she deserved with Erys. This was easily a 5-star read before I even reached midway and it’s definitely one I won’t forget anytime soon.
I almost DNF’d this book because for some reason I just wasn’t getting into it at first. I took a break, came back to it, and I’m soooo glad I did because whew this book had me cryingggg okay! Something kept telling me not to give up on it and I’m happy I listened.
I truly loved this story, even though I still feel like something was missing for me and I can’t fully put my finger on what it was. But overall, I really enjoyed it. The characters were everything! Sweet Lick Ernie had me cracking up the entire time. His banter with Erys and everybody else was hilarious. And Remedy? Yeah, she’s definitely one of my favorite FMCs now. She deserved every single thing “Franklin” gave her.
This book ended up being such an emotional ride and now I definitely want to read more from Aubree Pynn.
I had no business reading this at work! Had me at my desk crying 😭 I love everything about Remedy and Erys together ❤️ they complement each other so well. The people around them better figure out that they don’t play about each other. They need to find something safe to do. Especially Remedy’s family. All of them can go straight to hell.
Sweet Lick Ernie is my guy! Absolutely my favorite character. He had no filter and was out here just living and loving life despite everything. His relationship with Remedy was everything. The way they took care of each other was beautiful to see.
This book had me laughing one moment and crying the next. The bond between Sweet Lick Ernie and Remedy was truly one of a kind. Her love and care for him were completely selfless. It was incredibly moving to see Sweet Lick Ernie build a relationship with his son and witness the two people he loved most come together as one. This story was absolutely beautiful!
What a range of emotions while reading this! I really appreciated the dementia representation and how the story captured the humor, grief, confusion, frustration, love, and helplessness that can come with caregiving and memory loss.
And one thing this story really reinforces—you have to find moments to laugh.
While this is a standalone, and it was not necessary to read the previous book, you definitely would appreciate having read it, as MB & Eden are referenced in this one.
A bit overhyped for me, but "Sweet Lick Ernie" and his bond with Remedy were the definite show stealers! A pimp hasn't been this loved since "A Pimp Named Slickback."
This 5⭐️ was absolutely warranted. I went in blind but I ate this up. I loved everything about this. Who would’ve thought becoming best friends with your elderly neighbor would stir you to your future. I had all the feels. The way I cried! Ugh yall read this book. You won’t be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this story and darnnit I shed some tears at that ending.
Ernie was the star here.
The relationship he had with Remedy was so endearing and I couldn’t get enough of them. To add Erys to the dynamics made this such a sweet story.
My only draw back was the storyline surrounding Remedy’s past. I get not wanting to make it about them, but the bits and pieces were so sporadic and that I almost wished it was never introduced. The level of awful they were to her required more dragging. So the brief mentions weren’t enough to satisfy my petty.
But the Ernie, Rem, and Erys story was 5 stars. I love their healing and cried saying goodbye. What a beautiful story of forgiveness, finding solace with the past and building a future.
Aubree can’t do no wrong in my eyes!!!! It’s always ten across the board cause she gone make you feel and swoon. A man, she gone write your dream one every time!!!! Yesssssss!!!
This book definitely has all the feels! I laughed so hard and tone and cried during others. You can never go wrong with an Aubree Pynn book!! Please read this!
And I'm not the one to easily or readily give 5 stars. For me it has to be earned and usually it's "did I get that warm glowy feeling?" "Did this feel like a perfect love story?" And here it most definitely did! I'm not a crier. Books don't usually get tears to fall from my eyes. I might tear up or get a little sniffly-ahhhh moment but tears falling...nahhhh..not usually. But his one had me leaking and getting bleary eyed while finishing the read.
She was the remedy to his chaos and he needed her like the air he breathed.
I've read a few Aubreé Pynn books and it's clear that she's gifted with writing these dark, traumatic situations around, outside of the characters in the gritty urban streets while showing the mains lightness and hope within. It's a beautiful way to portray Urban life and the people who make things shake in that world. On the outside Remedy is an ex-con stripper hanging out with an aging pimp. But on the inside she's a woman who was given pain trying to make lemonade the best she know how against the odds and being human to the only man who moved like a father. Her twinnnnn former-ex-pimp Ernie. Their relationship was so funny and engaging it actually pulled me in on jump. Their banter was not only hilarious I felt something deep in my spirit seeing a young woman care so lovingly for an elder losing his mind. Then enters Erys and whewww it's explosive. This is an "I hate you nigga" at first sight- to- lovers story and in true Aubreé Pynn fashion we have the first 20-30% exploring that "I hate you nigga" in all glory but with bars, feel good moments, sneak disses, in your face disses, slaps, and laughs. One thing about Aubreé Pynn is once the mains circle each other it's a wrap! And when they give in they give in completely.
May didn’t name you Remedy for nothing. I got a boy who makes shit balance. I got a girl that makes everything better.
This book is about healing generational curses. It's about allowing light to soften your harden pieces and then grow. The way faith of a mustard seed can have you becoming your wildest dreams. Most of all in an Aubreé Pynn book the villains and the evil naysayers will get their due and we get to see it. One thing I enjoyed with this book is how the villains were handled and how that was resolved. I felt fully vindicated. I loved the ending. I loved again how we saw their relationship as trio, Ernie, best friend to Remedy and father to Eyrs, + Remedy + Eyrs fold into one another. They were the absolute perfect trio and those blessings extended to everyone in their circle as well. Gosh the tears the tears! Dementia is no joke and it is presented well here. If that's a serious trigger please don't read. Again Ernie had a lot of his own trauma to work and shift through and his sundowning moments and his hallucinations became ways to heal some of those pains while making his own little found family whole.
“Whatever you need. Whatever you want. Whatever is necessary. I got you.”
Just beautiful, masterful from beginning to end.
“You want to hear how good I’m going to love your bossy ass? I’m going to love you so fuckin’ good, woman.”
