INHERIT THE SHOES a witty and addictive cozy murder mystery

Rate this book
Lawyer Sandy Moss gets mixed up in a celebrity murder case in LA, in the first in a brand-new cosy legal mystery series.

New Jersey prosecutor Sandy Moss is tired of petty criminals, and a new job at a glitzy Los Angeles law firm seems the perfect career move. Putting 3,000 miles between her and her ex-boyfriend is just an added bonus.

But on Sandy’s first morning as a family attorney, she inadvertently kills her new career stone dead when she offends her boss during a meeting with the firm’s top celebrity client, charismatic TV star Patrick McNabb. But that’s not as dead as Patrick’s soon-to-be ex-wife, Patsy, is that evening, when she’s discovered shot by an arrow, her husband standing over her.

Librarian note: E.J. Copperman is the pen name for author Jeff Cohen

E.J. Copperman is a mysterious figure, or has a mysterious figure, or writes figuratively in mysteries. In any event, a New Jersey native, E.J. has written for such publications as The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, American Baby and USA Weekend. Night of the Living Deed is the first E.J. Copperman novel. It will be followed in 2011 by An Uninvited Ghost, the second in the Haunted Guesthouse mystery series.

E.J., having worked as a newspaper reporter, teacher, magazine editor, and screenwriter, writes stories that combine humor and mystery with just the right amount of spooky supernatural happenings and a large doses of Jersey attitude.

Sound like we’re being evasive? Well, the fact is that E.J. Copperman is the pseudonym of a well-known mystery novelist, now embarking on a new type of story that includes some elements of the supernatural as well as a fair number of laughs. And the Copperman novels will have a different attitude, a different setting and completely different characters than anything that has come before, so E.J. really is a new author.

Do yourself a favor and read all six of these clever and entertaining mysteries. Sandy Moss is a smart attorney (some would say "brilliant") from New Jersey who ended up in L.A. She's doing her best to adapt to this foreign shore and its difficult-to-fathom inhabitants, especially one exasperating celebrity she's stuck defending on the charge of murdering his wife.

Sandy's voice resounds with me. Her wise-cracking is my daughters, my friends, my neighbors, my own. I really would like to have her over the next time she's in town.

I personally devoured the series like popcorn, reading all six in five days. I don't recommend that. Enjoy them over a week. Or a month, even, if you have self-restraint (I'm told some people do).

The author says we don't have more because they didn't sell well enough. Let's fix that, people! Let's fix that fellow Jerseyans! Inherit the Shoes! Judgment at Santa Monica! Witness for the Persecution! And Justice for Mall! My Cousin Skinny! Good Lieutenant!

We want more!

A Must Read

Laughter is said to be the best medicine. In this case, I have to agree. Please read. Some twists and turns, I didn't see. One I did. Only one though. I will not spoil. Witty, funny and well written. A cozy mystery that could easily be considered part comedy. My soul felt lighter after reading. That was the entire point. Cheers to E.J. Copperman for the assistance! I hope this read will lighten someone else's soul.

5* This'll stay in my virtual library.

I discovered this book by accident. Listed as a cosy murder mystery, which in this case is an unclear description, apart from the synopsis, I didn't know what to expect. What a surprise. Inherit the Shoes is a very funny book with punchy dialogue between the characters and filled with quips, asides and the heroine's mocking thoughts.

Very rarely do I finish a book and consider immediately rereading it. This is one such book.

Evidently the author is a prolific writer, so there's plenty more for me to choose from.

Recommended.

umm

I despise the main male character as he is written, he ruined the book for me being an incomprehensibly stupid person with an ego the size of any breathing creature on earth. Plus he was very very annoying.
Used money like it was nothing, oh the list goes on, why bother -because someone reading this story will find it all witty and addictive, wile I found it very annoying and completely unrealistic, but maybe that’s the whole point of L.A.

Thoroughly enjoyable

A murder mystery from a different angle. Actors, straight-faced cops and over the top friends contribute to making this an unusual journey through a court case. A great voice for the main character Sandy and a few twists kept the pace and I couldn’t put it down. Left me with a smile on my face.

Inherit The Shoes - A cute cozy mystery

I enjoyed this story. Sandy Moss, a previous attorney for the DA in New Jersey wanted a change. She moved to L.A. Her first day on her new job did not start out as she thought it would. A cute cozy mystery.

Quite engaging

Yes, the characters and story line was quite engaging. I thought it got a bit long in places but as the story unfolded it all became clear. I am looking forward to reading more of the Jersey Girl Legal adventures.

I really enjoyed this book. It took you on a wild ride and didn't let up until the last page. I'll have to read more by this author. I enjoyed the humor and the flying bullets and even the court case was fun.

A very good, quite humorous mystery.

I loved the writing in this mystery. The writer made me laugh several times. I’m glad this is just the first book in the series, as I’m looking forward to reading more installments.
