He was no longer a man. No longer a monster. He was something far a legend.
East London, 1888. In the choking fog of Whitechapel, prostitutes are being found mutilated in alleys and basements, their bodies left behind with unsettling precision. Panic spreads as rumors outpace the police, and a name begins to take shape in the shadows.
A name the city will not forget. Jack.
When the killings draw the attention of investigators John Doyle and Thomas Braham, the hunt begins for a murderer whose violence is deliberate, chilling, and ritualistic. As the killings spread across the city, leaving taunting letters for the press, Doyle and Braham are drawn into their darkest case yet.
Jack is a gothic historical horror novel, the third installment in the Founders Series, steeped in blood, obsession, and Victorian dread. The deeper the investigation goes, the clearer one truth becomes.
Jack is not a man trying to escape history, but one determined to enter it.
Chad Miller never sleeps—and his stories make sure you won’t either. Specializing in horror and suspense, Chad is the author of the highly rated dark historical mystery The Confession, the first book in his Founders Series. By day, Chad Miller is a pharmacist dispensing medicine—by night, he prescribes nightmares through the pages of his chilling fiction. When he’s not writing, Chad is likely exploring a new city—and if it’s past midnight, you’ll probably find him wandering through the nearest graveyard. We’ve come so far in this series and it keeps getting better. Easily the best book with my favourite returning characters. Although it’s probably my familiarity of the characters that makes me relish the time with them. I loved the change of scenery and the reimagining of a classic historical villain. Solid writing that is not for the feint of heart.
This series has taken me on a wild ride. It started with confessions, book 1, leading us into a Lizzy border type murder. By book 3 we have morphed into a Jack the Ripper type novel. What a creative mind Chad Miller has. I have enjoyed this series and highly recommend it. I am looking forward to reading his future books.
Jack the Ripper or Gentleman Jack is the probably the worlds most known cold case. No one seems to know who he was nor why the killings ended so abruptly. This book brings it all together.
Spoiler: josh becomes “gentleman jack” and kills people as a debt to the Stranger for bringing him back to life with the green elixir. once his debt is paid he disappears.

Olga ???? Why??? didn’t see that coming!!! James story did have the therapist in me feeling empathy for the childhood he had, but The Strangers have me baffled…
I will be honest, Chad is a good writer, his ability to tell a story that has been told before (several times) is unique. The problem I had was not the writing or the story, it just did not fit how I read. It was slow in parts, too fast in others. Overall, the book was good.
Dark and graphic. Some loose ends tidied up and some new ones begun. A bit more chaotic to follow than prior books, but expecting more to unravel in future in next episode... Jack isn't the center, after all..... now that's scary....
I was happy to be back with John, Thomas & Scarlett. As always, I enjoyed the writing taking me back to the 1800s.
This is a suspenseful story about revenge. This story takes place in 1888. Sex workers are being found mutilated in the streets of East London. These women are not safe and are being targeted by Jack.
However, he has his eyes set on one particular female from his past & he will not give up until he finds her. I enjoyed that Miller did not shy away from using slang words that were likely & commonly used back in the 1800s to refer to sex workers.
The descriptions of gory scenes were quite vivid & cinematic. I could almost smell the scents described.
Yes, it gave me Jack the Ripper vibes with a surprising and unexpected ending!
If you enjoy gothic horror and/or historical horror with great writing, then you need to give Chad Miller’s books a read.
