Between Two Worlds: Horizons of Hope
Yannis left Crete as a young boy in search of opportunity, rebuilding his life first in Libya with his brothers before being uprooted by war. Forced to move through Egypt and into Ethiopia, he fought alongside the British, trading youthful dreams for the harsh realities of conflict and survival. After the war, he briefly found stability in Libya through love and family, only to be displaced again by revolution and returned to a Greece that no longer felt like home. Shaped by exile, war, and repeated beginnings, his life became a journey across lands and identities, ultimately teaching him that true home is not a place on a map, but the people and memories that remain with us.

A powerful and deeply emotional story of resilience, exile, and survival, this book beautifully follows Yannis’s journey across war, displacement, and repeated new beginnings. More than a historical account, it is a moving reflection on identity, family, and the true meaning of home, showing that home is ultimately found in the people and memories we carry with us.

It is clear that Yannis poured his heart and his love for his family into this book, weaving together the remarkable story of his grandfather and the legacy he left behind.
While this is a story about migration, courage, discovering new worlds, adapting, and rebuilding a life in a different place, it is ultimately about something even more universal: the search for home. It beautifully captures how those who leave their homeland often begin by looking for a place to belong, only to discover that home is ultimately found in the people they love and who stand beside them.
This is a heartfelt and moving story that resonated deeply with me, as I’ve been living abroad for almost ten years. My own family history also includes my grandparents’ migration to other countries—and even other continents—which made this story feel especially meaningful. I believe this book will resonate with anyone who has ever left their homeland and wondered what it truly means to belong.

This is a beautiful, deeply moving story of identity, of being uprooted time and again and of learning to build life from fragments. The idea that home is not being bound to geography but lives in relationships and memories is one of the strongest messages of this book. It is a must read for anyone interested in stories of migration and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
