The Last Half - Blood

RUN. THAT'S THE ONLY WARNING KALEY GETS. BECAUSE THE GREEK GODS DON'T ASK — THEY TAKE.

Kaley Leandros thought she was just a normal teenage girl—until monsters stepped out of myth, and her so-called best friend turned out to be something else entirely.

Now her whole life feels like a lie, and the truth is way more dangerous.

Greek gods are real. So are the monsters. And apparently, Kaley is entwined in it all.

Thrown into a hidden world of power, secrets, and ancient rivalries, Kalena has to train fast—especially with the godly-handsome Sentinel, Stephanos Michel, creating a flirty distraction as he watches her every move.

The myths were never just stories.

And if Kalena doesn’t figure things out soon, she’ll have to fight for her life like never before.

For fans of Jennifer L Armentrout's Covenant Series, Percy Jackson & the Olympians and Lore— but darker, where the gods are less forgiving, and far more dangerous.... this is the book for you.

Molly Jade

Molly Jade is a debut dark fantasy author based in Redditch, Worcestershire. She writes stories rooted in Greek mythology, weaving together slow-burn romance, fate, and the quiet power of resilience.

Her debut novel, The Last Half - Blood, the first in a four-part series, marks the beginning of a world shaped by ancient gods, lingering curses, and characters who must decide whether destiny is something to follow—or fight.

Having spent years developing her series, Molly’s writing is driven by a deep love for mythology and emotionally complex storytelling. Her work explores connection, sacrifice, and the kind of love that refuses to come easily.

When she’s not writing, she’s often lost in books that blur the line between legend and reality—drawn to stories where nothing is quite as simple as it seems.

I've actually never used Goodreads before, but when I asked Molly where I could leave a review, she told me to come here... so Molly, I hope I'm doing this right!

I first met Molly at her debut signing event in Worcester, and ended up chatting with her for ages about anime and Greek mythology. Her passion for the subjects she writes about was obvious, so buying her book felt like an easy decision. It turned out to be one of the best I've made this year.

The Last Half-Blood surprised me in all the right ways. On the surface, it's a gripping fantasy inspired by Greek mythology, but beneath that there's a much deeper story about resilience, identity, and learning to find your place after life has tried to convince you that you don't have one. None of the characters are flawless, and that's exactly what makes them feel so believable. Kalena, especially, felt like a genuinely human protagonist rather than someone written to be perfect.

This isn't a novel that hands every answer to the reader. It rewards paying attention, noticing the smaller details, and piecing things together yourself. There were several moments where I realised something chapters after it had first been hinted at, which made the experience even more satisfying.

The world-building deserves a special mention. The mythology feels carefully researched without ever becoming overwhelming, and the descriptions make every location easy to picture. It never felt like mythology was included simply for decoration—it was woven naturally into the story.

If someone had handed me this book without telling me who published it, I would never have guessed it was independently published. The cover design, editing, formatting, and overall production quality are every bit as polished as books from major publishing houses.

Stephanos is also one of the strongest love interests I've read in a long time. He isn't written as a stereotype or simply as the attractive male lead; he has depth, restraint, and genuine emotional intelligence, which made the slow-burn romance all the more rewarding.

Without question, this has become one of my favourite reads of the year. I'm already looking forward to seeing where the series goes next.

Firstly, I’d like to thank the author for gifting me an ARC of her debut novel, ‘The Last Half-Blood’, in exchange for an honest review!

Kaley Leandros thought she was a normal girl, but it turns out she isn’t even mortal. She is the last half-blood, and after accepting that things like Greek gods and monsters are real, she knows she is entwined in it all and has an important role to play. However, as much as she is trying hard to train so that she can defeat monsters, she is miles behind everyone else in her new ‘school’. Furthermore, her personal trainer, Stephanos Michel, causes her to either want to punch things or resist the urge to blush. Can Kaley learn to become a fighter before she is targeted again? Or will the monsters baying for her blood find her before she learns to defend herself?

One thing I really loved about this novel was the unique concept of Greek mythology entwined in fantasy and the supernatural. You could tell the author has spent a lot of time researching as there were a lot of Greek elements that were fascinating to learn about but equally made the plot exciting.

I also enjoyed the slow-burn romance between Kaley and Stephanos. The gradual attraction between them was well-written and when they eventually kissed it felt natural. Some slow-burn romances seem random, but this one was handled well and made sense.

There were a lot of themes explored in the novel too which added to my enjoyment of the book. There was love, jealousy, family trauma, platonic relationships, trust, self preservation, and many more to really keep you intrigued. It was nice to see that the author didn’t just focus on the romance and monsters and made sure there were other things to sink your teeth into.

The novel ended on a cliffhanger which is a great way to make you invested in the following novel! I just hope we won’t have to wait too long for it.

The main reason I didn’t give this book five stars is because there were a couple of things I questioned. Firstly, the novel suggests that the gods don’t know about mortal things, shown when Steph doesn’t know Sherlock Holmes, and yet the food eaten at the school is often things like pizza, chips, and burgers. As these foods are very human it seemed a bit of a contradiction to say that world is so far away from the mortal one when the foods eaten are practically the same. Secondly, when Kaley is taken and the monsters feed on her blood it’s suggested that it would take days for her to turn into a monster herself, yet Steph’s friend was taken and turned into a monster after being fed on once. Was this because she’s a half-blood? I don’t know, but I hope this gets explained in future novels, otherwise it seems contradictory.

Overall, a fantastic debut novel that stands out with its focus on Greek mythology! It’s very unique and I can’t wait to continue the series once book two is released.

“UPCOMING SERIES MUST READ!”
The Last Half-Blood by Molly Jade is the kind of fantasy that grabs you by the throat from the very first chapter and refuses to let go. Dark, addictive, and dripping with mythological tension, it blends the danger of the gods with the raw emotion of forbidden destiny in a way that feels both epic and intensely personal.

What truly makes this story shine is its atmosphere. Every page feels charged with unease — as though fate itself is lurking in the shadows, waiting to strike. Jade crafts a world where power comes at a brutal cost, and every secret threatens to unravel something far bigger than the characters themselves. The mythology is woven seamlessly into the story, creating a universe that feels ancient, dangerous, and utterly immersive.

The characters are equally compelling. Flawed, emotional, and constantly at war with themselves, they feel painfully human despite the supernatural chaos surrounding them. The chemistry crackles with tension, the betrayals cut deep, and the emotional stakes remain just as gripping as the action. You don’t simply read this book — you survive it alongside the characters.

Fans of Percy Jackson, Fourth Wing, and darker romantasy stories will find themselves completely consumed by The Last Half-Blood. Molly Jade has delivered a stunning debut filled with heartbreak, mystery, and enough twists to leave readers desperate for the next instalment.

An unforgettable start to what promises to be an extraordinary series.

I went into this expecting a fun Greek mythology fantasy, but it ended up pulling me in much more than I thought it would. The story starts off strong and keeps revealing new secrets at just the right pace, so I was always curious to see what would happen next.

Kaley was easy to root for, especially as her entire world is turned upside down. I liked that she didn't instantly become fearless or have all the answer it made her journey feel more believable. Stephanos was another highlight for me. The chemistry between them is subtle and slow-building, which I actually preferred over an instant romance.

The mythology elements were one of my favorite parts. It felt familiar enough to recognize the Greek myths but different enough to keep things interesting. The darker tone also gave the story a nice edge without losing the sense of adventure.

For a debut novel, I thought this was a really enjoyable start to what looks like an exciting series. If you enjoy stories with Greek gods, hidden worlds, mystery, and a slow-burn romance, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a try. Looking forward to seeing where the next book takes these characters.

The Last Half-Blood by Molly Jade is a thoroughly engaging mythological urban fantasy debut.

It took me a couple of chapters to fully get into the story, but I am so glad I stuck with it. The deeper into the narrative I got, the more hooked I became, to the point I didn't want it to end. The plot is compelling, the mythological world is fun, and it finishes on an incredible cliffhanger. The mystery left me with so many burning questions that I need answers to, and I cannot wait to see everything unravel in the follow-on books.

It does have a few rough edges: the main character could feel a bit frustrating at times, there was a little too much unnecessary bad language for my taste, and the book definitely needs a tighter proofreading pass (a stray letter, and phrasing errors popped up).

However, the strength of the storyline carries you through the distractions. For a debut novel, this is a very promising start to a new series. With a tighter editing polish on book two, this series could really shine, I'm definitely on board for the next book!
