Love Theoretically meets Lights Out in this swoony dark rom-com with a morally grey lead who wants to learn everything he can about the woman he’s obsessed with, but stalking her isn’t as easy as he anticipated.
Summer keeps her dark fantasies close to her chest—and between the pages of her favorite books. With a globetrotter mother and a traveling artist best friend, Summer seeks her adventures as a professional fake girlfriend, spending her days pretending to be anyone other than herself for a thrill and a lucrative paycheck.
Of course, being a professional fake girlfriend makes dating a bit . . . challenging. Especially when her new client is the same man who accidentally broke into her apartment—the same man she hasn’t been able to stop thinking about since. But if Noah knew the real Summer, if he knew her fantasies of being the object of a man’s obsession and unshakable devotion, she’s not sure he’d want any relationship with her—fake or not.
Noah didn’t mean to break into Summer’s home. In his drunken state, he mistook her apartment for his friend’s, but now that he’s met gorgeous, fiery Summer, he’s found the perfect candidate to convince his overbearing family that he’s over his recent a professional fake girlfriend. Except the more Noah gets to know Summer, the more his obsession grows. He wants to know everything about her, and based on the books on her shelf and her own drunken confession, she’s not against a little light stalking.
Unfortunately, from unsuccessfully hiding behind menus to mistakenly leaving his return address on gifts to getting caught peering through her window, Noah isn’t exactly nailing this whole stalking thing. And his messiness has obviously attracted the attention of the wrong person because things for Noah go very, very badly. As in, find-yourself-locked-in-the-trunk-of-a-car bad.
So maybe stalking isn’t quite as easy as he had hoped.
I have hit the Dark romcom jackpot. Two days in a row of enjoyable and fun romcoms! Noah and Summer were cute together and their meet cute was adorable. It's hard not to have a crush on Noah because even though he is so awkward at times, he is so incredibly sweet and does anything to make Summer feel loved.
In this romcom, you have: -Fake dating -Stalker Kink -Mask Play -SO much laughter!
I wouldn't call this dark so don't go into it expecting dark. Noah fumbles his way through being a stalker and honestly, its perfection. I loved this book, the couple, and all the side characters. I can't wait to continue the series and see where V's story goes. Another solid romcom to add to your list!
I really really loved this book and I’m kind of surprised by all the 2 and 3 stars? It wasn’t really dark, but was it labeled as dark? I don’t remember 😂
H is a really rich trust fund guy who was a vet tech but then had a crazy girlfriend boss/vet so he quit his job and becomes a pet sitter 🤔🤔 She’s a date person (?) at Plus One who goes on dates with guys with no sex involved but she’s aspiring to be a artist full time. The way they meet cracked me UP and I loved it. It was just a relatable funny meet cute that I don’t see that often in books but I wish I did.
The h’s mom was funny, the running and exercise scenes were funny, the way he tries to bring her book romantic scenes to life, all funny!
What wasn’t funny? The third act breakup scene was kinda dumb and made me roll my eyes. He commissions $10K of art work from her anonymously and when she finds out, she gets mad and dumps him because she thinks he’s doing it out of pity. 🥴🙄
Don’t worry, 4 seconds later, they make up and get together again.
Overall, I laughed so many times during this book and I didn’t want it to end 🥹 I would love to find something else similar to this!
Sweet Obsession feels less like a fresh dark romantic comedy and more like an attempt to reproduce the popularity of Lights Out. Harmony West gathers fake dating, consensual stalking, a golden-retriever hero, dark romance fantasies, and an unconventional pet into a novel designed for social media attention. Every trope ingredient should have appealed to me, but none of them sparked for me.
Summer works as a professional fake girlfriend while changing her appearance and personality to match each client’s needs. The job requires intelligence, confidence, and an impressive ability to read people. Her private fantasies involve obsession, stalking, and consensual non-consent. Her true desires are kept hidden behind the personas that pay her bills. Then, a drunken stranger named Noah enters her apartment after confusing it with his friend’s home. Their embarrassing introduction becomes a business opportunity when he hires her to convince his family that he has recovered from a breakup.
Their fake relationship develops real feelings after Noah discovers Summer’s dark romance collection and learns about her interest in being stalked. He decides to become the obsessive book boyfriend she secretly wants. His attempts are intentionally ridiculous. He hides behind menus, includes his return address on anonymous gifts, peers through windows, and injures himself while following her through the woods. Summer recognizes him almost immediately and plays along because his mistakes charm her.
The playful stalking should have been funny and sexy, but my attention kept returning to how closely this novel resembled Lights Out. Reading became a game of identifying which details had been changed. A clumsy masked stalker replaces Josh. Familiar viral tropes fill the remaining spaces. A hedgehog replaces Fred the cat. The hedgehog felt like another calculated attempt to recreate a beloved animal sidekick. Fred added humor and personality to Lights Out. The hedgehog contributed little beyond being unusual. If you are someone who adores small pets, you may find the scenes cute. My dislike of rodent-like pets certainly did not help, but the hedgehog still lacked the comic presence needed to justify so much attention. Thus the comparisons became too noticeable to ignore and the novel never established enough personality of its own.
Noah also failed as a romantic or sexual lead. His doglike behavior may appeal to readers searching for an eager and affectionate himbo. For me, it made several intimate scenes uncomfortable to read. His devotion feels more juvenile than seductive. The contrast between dark stalking fantasies and his goofy personality should have created a clever reversal of the usual masked antihero. Instead, Noah's personality gave me the ick most of the time.
Summer deserved a stronger match. She is clever, adaptable, sexually confident, and capable of controlling a room before anyone realizes she has done it. Her escort work offers fascinating glimpses into performance, identity, and the emotional labor involved in becoming someone else for money. Her bedroom confidence also provided a few memorable lessons. A separate novel focused on Summer’s clients, disguises, and adventures would interest me far more than another chapter of her relationship with Noah.
Sweet Obsession will entertain you if you are someone who want a softer stalker romance filled with trope heavy romance, a cringey love interest, and exaggerated comedy. Those who have not read Lights Out may see its combination of sweetness and darkness more original. I thought that Summer brought intelligence, heat, and charisma to the page. I only wish her romance with Noah had given her someone equally magnetic.
Thank you to libro.fm and Simon Maverick for an ALC in exchange for an honest review.
I think the concept of this book was better than the execution. So we have Noah. He has an overbearing family - more on that later - and is fresh off a breakup. Then we have Summer who works as a fake date/girlfriend while trying to make it as an artist. When Noah gets drunk and falls asleep on her couch, they end up sharing some truths and she admits she has a stalker kink.
Noah is instantly taken with Summer and hires her to be his fake girlfriend to get his family off his back but in reality he’s just hoping to get closer to her. And that’s what happens when kind of.
First, almost everyone in this book is unlikable apart from Noah and neighbor Ares. I actually got second hand embarrassment from his family. They were “dating” about six seconds and his mother was already asking about engagement rings. The brother was basically let me stay stupid gym bro stuff. And the sister was mean spirited and frankly needed to learn how to stay out of other people’s life.
Even the FMC Summer was annoying. Questioning if Noah really liked her when it was SUPER obvious he did. And then the whole waaaa I’m not good enough routine got old fast.
But there were some cute moments thanks to Noah. Some humor in there. The narrators were good but not excellent.
“You okay?” “Damn it, Summer, don’t ruin the fantasy! — I’m a sexy, competent man skilled in the art of chasing a woman through the woods in the dark!”
I choked & chortled with my matcha yuzu drink. It was hilarious how hard Noah is trying the stalking-game for Summer. I’m in love with a to-be morally grey man.
Summer is an aspiring artist, to be a full-timer. But art appreciation doesn’t come easy. And it’s definitely not going to pay her bills. So she’s working as a “fake girlfriend” for a service app, “Plus One”. Summer didn’t meet Noah as her client. No. Fate played a funny game, where Noah was drunk and broke into Summer’s apartment. Mistaken it for his best friend’s. It was definitely love at first sight. And there’s a lot of initiatives Noah took to woo the woman of his dreams.
çooook şirin bir çiftti ve noah a bayıldım onu sevmemek imkansız. sevdiği kadın için her şeyi yapmaya hazır bir erkeği kim sevmez ki??? kitap biraz dark romance i komediye çevirmek gibiydi. kitap rızaya dayalı olayını açıkçası çok güzel anlatmıştı. kadın karaktere sinirlendiğim zamanlar oldu özellikle sahip olduğu işten dolayı. ayrıl bırak o işi yapmayı salak mısın??? başka iş mi yok sanki fasfakirsin git noah ı kap salak

I really enjoyed this, I feel if you are trying to get into dark romance this is a fun place to start. It feels like a fluffy romance x dark romance in the best way.
Spice Level: 🌶🌶.5 6 scenes that aren’t overly descriptive or wrong, but are so much fun
OMG this book. A book bestie told me what she was reading, and I was like, “I’ll read it with you!” And I was so obsessed. Noah and Summer meet when she gets home from one of her “dates,” and he’s passed out on her couch. She wakes him up, and he’s like whoa whoa whoa put the weapon down because it was just a case of drunkenly stumbling into (or breaking into, haha) the wrong apartment. While he sobers up, she reveals a secret to him about how she fantasizes about being consensually stalked by a man pursuing her. And Noah, being incredibly drawn to her, decides to do just that. And omg, it’s hysterical because this man has absolutely no clue how to stalk her. OH, and he also hires her to date him (that’s her job) so he can convince his family he’s not lonely and pining over his ex. These two slowly start to fall for each other, but also know that the thing between them has an end date, and it’s just the most delightful read.
I like to imagine Josh from Lights Out meeting up with Noah and giving him tips on how to stalk the girl he’s dating and Noah nodding and being like yea yea okay, totally easy. But then he tries and messes it all up, and it’s adorably hilarious.
Not much spice, doesn’t hit until about 53%, and then we get a few scenes that aren’t overly descriptive, and weirdly never happen in a bed haha, but they are fun, and this is just such a fun read.

Since my vacation is coming to an end I am aware that I will not be able to read as many books and write detailed reviews, I will definitely be switching to shorter ones which will always include safety information (with an occasional rage-rant😆) …🤷🏻♀️ Story 4/5🍷 Spice3/5🥂 Audio 5/5🍾 Safety : no cheating, no detailed intimate scenes with OW.
After reading narratives that left me 🫣searching for my inner peace, this turned into a nice palate cleanser (for my “Kung Fu Panda era” - yup I still like that one!😜🐼) It was hilarious to switch things up and read about a clumsy stalker! Noah is a dedicated amateur stalker who is trying his best (bless him! 😆) -his antics are comedy gold but also quite romantic and sweet! While the FMC -Summer, is quite insecure, her insecurity felt safe and acceptable to me in this context. Because Noah’s OTT, single-minded devotion is entirely focused onher, her insecurities are never threatened by external double standards or OW drama. Audio (available with several of my subscriptions) in duet narration, was great and brought the dark rom-com vibes to life 🙌! If you are looking for ab entertaining, high-obsession, no cheating romantic comedy (that almost feels like a light parody for some stalker romances) where the hero is consumed by the heroine (even if he literally trips over his own feet trying to show it😆), then this is must-listen!

Really lied this one. Safe in order to no drama, but the h works as a professional “plus one”, where men hires her to take her on a date. The H is jealous of these dates.
But I can’t say that it’s not any owd, because they basically met after he dumped his ex who was a toxic bitxh. She never appeared, the ex treated him badly and happened to also be his boss, so this ex is often talked about from his family, who’s worried about him and the aftermath of the breakup. He is glad to be out of the relationship and based on his thoughts, it seems like he didn’t enjoyed being together with her. He met the heroine a short time after he quit his job because he couldn’t stand working for his ex any longer. It’s been a couple of months since the breakup. And he hires her as a way for his family to stop nagging him about his breakup and how awful the relationship was, but his very clear that he is over the ow.
He gets drunk and accidentally breaks into h apartment, and he falls instantly, even tho he’s drunk. The amount of lengths this man goes to win the h is super cute. He stalks her because the h has a kink of being stalked.
This book was an utter delight, as well as laugh-out-loud hilarious. I wouldn't really classify it as dark romance, though. So, for those of you thinking that's what this is, just be aware that this isn't your typical stalker romance.
It's the story of an adorable, lovesick dork (Noah) trying to fulfill the fantasies of the girl of his dreams (Summer) who happens to be a dark romance lover.
It all starts when Summer drunkenly confesses to having a stalking kink (after a very unorthodox meet-cute) and Noah (bless him), tries his best to make all her naughty dreams come true.
But, the things is... Noah is *really* bad at being a stalker. He tries his best, reading all the types of dark romance he knows Summer is into, but time and time again... he fumbles things. EX: leaves the shipping lable with his name and address on the "anonymous" gift he leaves at her doorstep, is unsure if the tracker he put on her car even works, and trips over his own feet while trying to film a masked man thirst trap for her.
I honestly found this take on the obsessed stalker trope to be charmingly refreshing, and Noah (as clumsy and awkward as he is) is boyfriend goals 100%! He and Summer were so cute and swoon-worthy together... and the spice... *chef's kiss* 😉
I don't even know what to do with myself after this book.
Noah is officially my favorite MMC of all time.
I started this expecting a funny stalker romance. What I got was a golden retriever disguised as a dark romance hero. This man spends the entire book trying to be Josh from Lights Out and failing spectacularly at every opportunity.
Highlights include:
• Breaking into Summer's apartment by mistake and then falling asleep on her couch.
• Humping her favorite throw pillow in his sleep.
• Getting caught with a knife, screaming, and insisting the scream was too "high and feminine" to be his.
• Sending anonymous gifts with his own name on the return label.
• Putting a tracker on her car in broad daylight and immediately smacking his head on the vehicle when she catches him.
• Breaking into her apartment in a mask... to clean it and fold her laundry.
• Getting kidnapped by his own sister because she correctly assumed the masked man lurking outside Summer's house was a stalker.
At one point Noah literally thinks:
"I hate being a stalker relegated to the shadows. This was so much more fun when it was out in the open."
And honestly? That sums him up perfectly.
This man doesn't want to hide. He wants everyone to know he's obsessed.
What makes Noah special isn't just that he's possessive, jealous, and completely gone for Summer almost immediately. It's that he's kind. He's thoughtful. He's hilarious. He pays attention to everything she loves and wants her to feel cherished.
Summer did annoy me during parts of the book with the whole "he can't possibly believe in me" insecurity spiral, but she eventually got her head out of her ass and the payoff was worth it.
Favorite Noah moments:
"Who the fuck is Brad?"
"Where is the stalker manual on creeping silently?"
And my personal favorite realization from the entire book:
"The more I've gotten to know Noah, the more breaking into my apartment to clean it seems like exactly the kind of thing he would do."
YES.
Exactly.
That's Noah.
Not a dark romance hero.
Not a stalker.
A husband who accidentally arrived before the first date.
If you love:✔ Possessive MMCs✔ Early obsession✔ Jealous heroes✔ Acts of service✔ Humor✔ Competent devotion and incompetent execution✔ Golden retriever energy in a dark romance package
Read this immediately.
Noah is the standard now, and I genuinely fear for every MMC who has to come after him.

This was cute. It was not a dark romance in my opinion. Maybe I’m just evil but no one even died so you can’t call it dark romance 😂 The main guy wasn’t morally grey at all. More of a clumsy wanna be lol
This was overall pretty entertaining! If you liked Lights Out, you’d probably enjoy this one too! Similar themes and sense of humor. If I could change some minor elements, I’d probably cut a lot of the story towards the end; it didn’t really add much to the overall plot and it dragged on a bit. I also would’ve liked it to be a bit more dark personally 🫢 it just felt more tame than what I had in mind, since unfortunately something always went awry every time they tried to do something lol.
Noah is everything you could want in a golden retriever stalker! Talk about dedication lol I can't say I've ever read a book with a "not great at stalking" stalker MMC but I'm here for it. Love a man down bad willing to do what it takes to get the girl. Summer is an independent woman who's survival instinct isn't the greatest, but it works in her favor 😅
This was fun, funny, sweet cute, and pulled at the heart strings. I've yet to read anything by Harmony West I haven't loved! I really hope there will be a follow up to this with Aries & Vee ❤️
This book was FUN!! I honestly feel like that’s all I need to say. I loved all of the characters, I laughed out loud multiple times, and I found the MMC to be extremely swoon worthy.
