Erika Jones has always been independent and able to provide for herself and her six-year-old daughter. When she loses her job, she is faced with the reality of how she will maintain her household without financial means. She surprisingly runs into an old boyfriend, Ricky Johnson, who gives her the opportunity to make money, but unfortunately not the honest American way. In her decision to get involved with Ricky, she quickly discovers that everything that glitters is certainly not gold. Erika begins to make easy money, but learns that there is a price to pay when you play the "game."
Growing up in Richmond, VA it was cool to read about places, which were familiar. You were able to visualize the book more. The author’s descriptions and down to earth text had you feeling as if you were right in the middle of everything. It is not always easy to get out the game, so to hear that this had a happy conclusion was great. I enjoyed reading this book. I understand how the obligations of life can lead to choices that may not always be best. For me, it was a good reality book. It was an ordinary single mom who gets caught up in a particular lifestyle. Trying to maintain that lifestyle got in the way of her accomplishing her dreams and providing for her family at times. The main character faced many challenges. At times her choices were questionable, made one wonder what she was thinking. This was a decent read, which makes you think of your own life’s choices. Would you do the same?
