In finishing this book I don’t really know how to feel. The first half was amazing, one of the poems did manage to make me cry. Maybe I was emotional prior to reading, but nonetheless some of the works are very touching. The second half didn’t connect with me as much and I found myself struggling to pick the book up at times. The poems that are good are good, and the ones that aren’t simply just aren’t up to par.
The poems weren't always especially interesting, and the repetition of his catchphrases ("double time" and "madam jazz") got old quickly, but his language is artful throughout.
