As a series conclusion, I can say now that as fan fiction goes, this author has not done badly at all in the whole series from Edward’s point of view. I think that at the lest, her writing is not worse than Stephenie Meyers at all, certainly even better than Meyer’s own Midnight Sun, which I found highly derivative and even (oh, the sin!), almost boring.
Only that as dictated by the plot progression, the previous books in the series were rather clean, definitely much tamer than this one, and their story was both plot and character driven. This made me enjoy them a lot more than this one.
First of all, it was unnecessarily long. Too long by about 150-200 pages filled with waffling, circular thinking and Edward’s self-congratulatory “poor me” and it contained way, way too much smut. I’m not a prude and I have read my fair share of erotica back in the day, but there was too much of very explicit sex in this book, to the point that despite the disclaimer, I was surprised by the crudeness of it. I think overall it detracted from the quality. The book could have been much better with a ruthless editing.
