By chance I re-discovered Jeffrey Archer 's Only time will tell (Nr. 1 in the chronicle) All read between Dec. 14, 2020 and January 29, 2021) The only thing I can tell you is that I devoured all 7 of the Clifton Chronicles in about 6 weeks and when I had finished part 7 I was rather emotional, because the saga had taken hold of me. I must admit it was wrapped up rather nicely.
Although Archer's style of writing is rather formal he is such a "player" with words, incredible. He knows his history and his characters are placed against a background of true historical background.
A solid entry in the *Clifton Chronicles*, *Mightier Than the Sword* delivers political intrigue, family drama, and Jeffrey Archer's signature twists. Harry and Emma face gripping challenges, keeping the pages turning. While not the strongest in the series, it's still an engaging read. **3.5/4 stars**—worth it for fans!
Continuing saga - I don't really like that the ending does not wrap up the current issue at hand ; you have to get the next book to see how it resolves.. But, easy read and entertaining. The bad characters seem to come out on top most of the time.
Once again Archer has tied up loose ends from the cliff-hanger in Book 4...and left us with another cliffhanger in this book. If you haven't already started this series, start with the first and keep on reading - each one is terrific, and now I can't wait for the author to finish Book 6. In this book, the infamous Lady Virginia again rears her ugly head, as well as the despicable Major Fisher. And new villains are introduced! Harry Clifton is remarkably clever and brave as he tries to get a Russian author released from imprisonment in Siberia following his tell-all book about Stalin. Emma faces challenges as chairman of the board at Barrington and also a libel/slander lawsuit from Lady Virginia. Great book with numerous surprises and plot twists.
It has been a long time since I've read an entire series or a collection of one author's work. I read straight through Jeffrey Archer's work and would have continued with the 6th book if it were published. Of course, all who read this are waiting to learn the results of a court trial. I enjoyed the characters and the historical progress through the decades. The insights into the shipping, banking, publishing businesses, and politics of the times gave me more than enough to hold my interest. Well written. Grateful for Jeffrey Archer's intelligent writing style and skill with language.
I am really enjoying this series. They are family saga's where you are waiting to see what happens in each book as you are left on a cliff hanger this book in particular. As I read them on my kindle I find myself downloading the next book straight away. The twists and turns are not things that I have foreseen and I find myself turning the pages in anticipation. We are now at a stage in history that I remember and its interesting to read about it. If you enjoy family saga's I would highly recommend this series of books.
This book is another fantastic book in the Clifton Chronicles. Picking up directly from the end of the 4th book this book follows the ups and downs of the families.
The family trees at the start of the book are a useful reminder of the past.
It's hard to review sections of the book without spoilers but fans of this series will not be disappointed.
Another intresting read by Jeffrey Archer. I enjoyed this story, although at times I thought the characters were a bit neive acting in the circumstances they were in. I would like this to have been the end of the Clifton Chronicles, but I fear there will be another book in the future. The waiting begins!
this one was tedious for me at first, then about 60% of the way in... i got hooked, breathlessly reading until the final page, and now have to wait a year to find out what happens.... jeffrey archer has out done himself again.
Excellent. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
Archer keeps your attention from start to finish. Sebastian is becoming the primary protagonist. Archer is a wonderful writer and continues to carry the Clifton family into modern times.
I love Archer's books but every installment of the "Clif-ton" chronicles leaves its readers on a cliff-hanger, at the end, and we must wait a year for resolution.
I am really enjoying listening to this whole series of the Clifton Chronicles. As always left on a cliff hanger. Will be moving on to the next one soon.
