The Romano Clause: An Enemies to Lovers Dark Mafia Romance

I saved a dying man on my ER table and ended up in an arranged-marriage to the mob boss who came to collect him.

My family signed a contract with Chicago's most dangerous crime family before I was born. Matteo Romano just invoked it.

He's forty. I'm twenty-three. He has a scar and a silence that tells you everything. I have Skittles in my pocket and a grandmother for whom I'd do anything.

His mansion. His rules. His eyes are on me every time I turn around.

But small things crack him open.

Coffee outside my door at midnight. No knock. My shifts kept. One morning — dirt on his hands, alone on a rooftop, tending tomatoes as if the Don doesn't exist up there.

That's when I stopped hating him. That's when I fall.

Then I found the documents.

He manufactured the threat to my grandmother to make sure I'd say yes.

Everything I chose, he arranged.

And the worst part? If I leave, she loses the only protection keeping her alive.

Arranged marriage · age gap · forced proximity · enemies to lovers · HEA guaranteed

What a great story about Matteo and Clara. Story begins in a hospital emergency room with Clara patching up one of Matteo’s soldiers. Matteo tells her about the threat to her grandmother but not the complete story. Clara goes to Matteo’s estate to be the nurse to his men. During the time Clara is in the medical room she finds a document that affects her. There is a problem with one of Matteo’s men that causes him to require Clara to remain in the medical room. Clara goes back to work in the ER and notices there are two men just waiting around at the employee entrance of the hospital and calls Matteo for help. I liked the ending of this story.

The Romano Clause was a good book. Clara was an ER trauma nurse who gets "invited' to stay with Matteo Romano so that he can ensure her safety after she patched up one of his men. It seemed that the rival members of the mafia did not appreciate anyone around that could testify against them. 'No witnesses' was how they put it and Clara's safety was at risk. As she stayed at the Romano estate, she and Matteo started to admire certain traits of each other. He noticed how her sharp mind noticed everything and how she reacted in the face of danger and she felt that each time he was around her she felt safe and cared for. They were both lonely and they found solace in each other.

Loved the narration from Jennifer Borders

Clara was an ER trauma nurse who after caring for a man who works for Matteo. This strong and intelligent young nurse finds herself living in Matteo home. Surrounded by his men and patching them up. Matteo finds himself watching Clara and sees how she sees more than she should.
A old agreement ties families together. Love appears one cup of coffee at a time.
One morally grey hero and one sharp heroine. Drama and danger. Chemistry and spice.

a fast‑paced, high‑heat mafia romance that leans into danger, obsession, and power dynamics. The story centers on a fierce heroine caught in the crosshairs of a ruthless Romano heir whose protective streak quickly turns possessive. Expect sharp tension, explosive chemistry, and a plot that moves quickly with plenty of dark edges. It’s a satisfying pick if you enjoy morally gray heroes, forced proximity, and a heroine who refuses to break even when the stakes get deadly.

Quick read with classy low description spice scenes. I did find that Clara after being so calm and logical about everything suddenly over reacts when she finds out everything was pre planned for her to goto the Romano for protection.

Dani Slade did an excellent job with her writing of The Romano Clause Novella.
Matteo wasn’t exactly planning for things to turn out the way they did with Clara, an ER Nurse. The intertwining of family agreements no one ever told Clara about.
Once you start reading this book you are drawn in and will not be able to put it down.
