Dylan McCabe - a livewire Irish labourer on a rushed Cherringham building Project - has been making noises about the site's lack of safety. When he's discovered dead after a fall, it seems that Dylan's own warnings were all too true. That is ... until Jack and Sarah get involved, and suddenly what looks like an accident becomes a case of cold-blooded murder. With a festive Cherringham Christmas just days away, Jack and Sarah set out to find the culprit. But soon they find their own lives being threatened too ... -- Cherringham is a serial novel à la Charles Dickens, with a new mystery thriller released each month. Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick read for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa. -- For fans of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple series, Lilian Jackson Braun's The Cat Who series, Caroline Graham's Midsomer Murders, and the American TV series Murder She Wrote, starring Angela Lansbury. -- Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and - most recently - the successful crime fiction series Cherringham. Now into its second season of 12 novellas, Cherringham is popular around the world and has been adapted as a series of audiobooks in Germany.
Nicely written, the plot was good, the events easy to follow, always a pleasure finding Sarah and Jack again. I'm starting to fall in love with this place!
Jūtamas dzirksteles starp Sāru un Džeku☺️ "Liktenīgais kritiens" noslēdzas Ziemassvētkos un visos stāstos laikapstākļi gluži kā tagad ārā: pelēks, drēgns un bez saules.
A Fatal Fall: Cherringham 15 Chronological order, not necessary but recommended.
In A Nutshell: Written in the vein of a classic mystery our amateur sleuths are investigating what appears to be the accidental death of a labourer. I found little to get my teeth into and guessed the plot. Pleasant but not rivetting.
The Protagonists: Take one hard-boiled former New York City Detective retired to Cherringham England and one Brit businesswoman divorcee who fled home to Cherringham, and you have our protagonists. The professional and amateur in the sleepy Oxford countryside. Jack Brennan is the gentleman, and Sarah Edwards mother of two is the techie.
The Plot:How did the builder die. Well, it turns out to be a case of eye spy.
Written in the old school style this formulaic cliche story works wonders. It transports the reader to a sleepy English village where murder happens without any of the gore. And there is no pressure on Jack or Sarah to have a relationship. Yet. They are just two people who work well together and enjoy what they do.
Well written, light and refreshing a pleasant read.

My rating system (* = star) 0* Could not finish this book (waste of time) 1* Finished the book but didn't like it. 2* Finished the book it was okay. 3* A good read worth your time. 4* An excellent read often with a novel concept or unusual plot. 5* A magnificent read. A prominent example of the genre.
It was set up to be an accident, but one dodgy witness was bothered by it. How to get legal evidence is a major problem for Jack and Sarah to find in their investigation. Love this idea of a series given in short bursts that are just the right size as well as so much more flexible than a whole novel! The ongoing sleuthing involves a retired and widowed older NYPD homicide cop who is finding life in the English countryside a fair antidote to his mourning, and a local recently divorced woman who has returned to her hometown with her children. They make a good sleuthing pair. Voice actor Neil Dudgeon has been an excellent asset to my listening pleasure, making sure that I know who's talking while I do mindless things.
I'm not really sure how to rate this one. I absolutely love the town of Cherryingham. The setting of a small English town and the main characters always make this series a cozy read that I enjoy going back to. I love the relationship between Jake and Sara and the mixture of his NYC style and her British one. I also love the narrator. I just didn't love the actual mystery. Seemed a bit over the top.
Another quick outing with Jack and Sarah. This time, the reader knows there is no such thing as a simple construction site accident when this investigating duo is called in. With a couple of twists and turns, and a few deceptions, the reader is quickly back in the mix and all too soon realizes feigned concern is nothing more than a ruse.
Late one rainy, icy night, a building worker is finishing up for the night. As he climbs around the scaffolding piling up tiles for the next day, he slips and falls to his death. Is it an accident? Is it something more sinister? Jack and Sarah look into the mystery.
Once again the dynamic duo has stumbled upon another mystery. Would they prove the death of Dylan McCabe is an accident or a murder? The Christmas Holiday is upon them but they would not let their guard down. Once again you can travel right along with them.
A good book to listen too when you clean the house. It gives you ”Midsomer murders” wibes. It is fun to try to figure out how the guilty person is. Jack is a retired cop from US, Sarah is a singel mom and they solves crime together. This one was about a murder/accident.
The mystery behind Dylan McCabe murder was fast paced and pulling. Sarah and Jack have done a fantastic job finding the killer. Great work by Matthew Costello!
