The Meeting

Rate this book
This is a short story set two years prior to the opening of Emerge, a novel by Heather Sunseri. This can be read as a standalone prior to Emerge or after.

Dylan and Dax have been on their own since their parents died of Bad Sam, a deadly Ebola-like virus that went airborne four year ago and wiped out 99.9% of the United State's population. While the two brothers have avoided being a part of any sort of community, Dax is injured and could die if they don't find help.

Nina and Cricket have discovered a way to make life work in the tiny community of Boone Blackston. It's not ideal, and sixteen-year-old Nina dreams of an adventure that hasn't existed since the United States changed forever four years ago.

When Dylan meets Nina and her best friend Cricket in the forest, he knows that the girls' help might be his brother's only chance of survival. But what he finds in Nina is not at all what he had bargained for.

Heather Sunseri was raised on a tiny farm in the smallest of towns in thoroughbred horse country near Lexington, Kentucky. After high school, she attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, and later graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in accounting. Always torn between a passion for fantasy and a mind for the rational, it only made sense to combine her career in accounting with a novel-writing dream.

Heather now lives in a different small town on the other side of Lexington with her two children, and her husband, Mike, the biggest Oregon Duck fan in the universe. When she’s not writing or working as a CPA, she spends her time tormenting her daughter’s cat, Olivia, and loving on her son’s Golden Retriever, Jenny. MINDSPEAK is her first published novel.

Great short book! I received a free copy for reading Emerge and was pleasantly surprised. You get to know some of the characters of Emerge better. This a a story about Dylan and Nina.

Good start, very short but good. I am interested. I hesitate to start The Meeting because it is the start of a series and also short. I will wait until it is finished. But I did like the characters and will follow this story. It is a story of two young twin brothers, one injured, meet two young girls who want to help them, but are cautious. Both sides are cautious. Dylan and Dax, the twins, meet Cricket and Nina and the worlds for all are changed. This is just "the meeting" as it is titled, so very short, I am sure to tell you how these four did meet and the story will be developed in the Emerge series. I will be reading the Mindspeak series by this author and I am looking forward to reading more by Heather Sunseri.

I have read the other books in the Emerge series. I was anxious to finally read the short story that takes place two years before "Emerge". This story fulfilled two purposes for me. Since I had already read the Emerge series I was in desperate need of another story with some of my favorite characters Cricket, Nina and Dylan and Dax. I was able to immerse myself in the post-apocalyptic world after a deadly virus kills 99.9% of the population. Also, this story provided a great back story to how Cricket and Nina first meet Dylan and Dax. My only complaint is that it was too short. I wanted to keep going.

This is a very short story, but a great beginning teaser. The characters are very well written, and I absolutely love post apocalypse stories both in books and films. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review. I can not wait for the rest of the series.
