This book found me at exactly the right time. It explores what it means to grow not just enduring the pain, expectations, and wounds that so many of us carry, but learning how to become something stronger because of them.
I saw so much of myself in these pages. The themes of childhood trauma, losing yourself to the roles and expectations placed on women, and slowly finding your way back home to yourself felt deeply familiar. There were moments that made me feel seen in ways I didn’t expect.
What I took away most was hope. Even after everything we’ve survived, especially those of us with trauma, there is still something sacred within us that cannot be taken away. A quiet resilience that allows us to heal, to rebuild, and to be reborn.
Lye is one of those books that I’ll come back to whenever I need reminding of my own strength. It left me feeling less alone and more connected to myself and to the shared experience of rebirth and renewal after hardships. Thank you Sunshine.

Sunshine has written an incredible and devastating collection on family trauma and liberation. You want a witch's rage? Santa as an elusive judge? A poem in the form of a screenplay? It's all here, and they draw you into a story that gets under the skin in profound ways through powerful lines. An amazing debut collection!

Beautiful debut! Lately is raw and honest and captures so perfectly the experience of a modern woman. She explores personal, generational and societal issues and allows the reader to feel like they too are on a healing journey as they read each poem. I highly recommend!
