DNF at 87%

The MC stays annoying, constantly ignoring water, food supplies, better weapons, clothes and shoes while constantly rumbling on about ancient symbols on the walls in the first half of the book. His constantly getting hurt reminded me of McCain in Die Hard but unfortunately not in a good way as a lot of the injuries could have been prevented by using weapons with better reach - which he always ignored.

Once again, the power levels stay obscure as he finds weaklings in places that they absolutely should have been unable reach while way stronger people died or stuck at lower levels.. Once again, he studies diligently the work of serial killers who he never kills. Once again, (in the first half of the book) the MC'S tactics stay bad and he fights worse than he should according to the plot.

The excessive and repetitive documentation of every fight gets really tiresome after a while. On the plus side, the author stopped reporting every voided bowel and the stats of everyone the MC meets.

The book is very badly structured. The plot about level 2 lasted half of the book, which was way too long, especially the last 20% were truly aggravating. In comparison the levels 3, 4 , 5, 6, 7 and 8 only lasted another 30 % of the book together!

I didn't really care about the last part of the book.

The plot left me with a lot of questions:
I didn't understand why the MC who acts like Ghandi against serial killers would insist on upholding other people's vendettas all of a sudden.
I didn't understand why the weaklings of the syndicate would reach level 3 while stronger climbers from level could not and how these crees could do such damage in such a short time.
I also don't understand why the weaklings would not descend back to level 1 to become stronger, as the plot establishes that the gates can be used both ways..

Criticism and comments

It's hilarious that the MC'S clothes and gear somehow got acid resistant.

Level 3 and 4 are too tough and unfair,. Realistically, nobody would pass these levels..

"Will emptied the water pouches onto the dead bark. Destroyed the medical supplies" Pure genius after constantly struggling with water supplies and festering wounds AND learning that the next level has no water..

His destruction of perfectly fine spears while he always struggles with range made me cringe - again.

"The water skin he emptied." Moronic, before entering a waterless level..

"Pulled on his spare shirt" The shirt appeared just as mysteriously as his new backpack and the salve..

The part about the ancients using English was moronic and contradicts the plot.

The author really loves the name Doss..This was number 4..

The book keeps repeating not to go past 30 when nobody even reached level 10..

Despite all the MC's achievements and him becoming the first human apex, he still is inferior to the skills his father showed at the start of book 1 - especially outside of the tower!

Good story but...

TOO MUCH FILLER. How many times can you repeat an action that already took place? If you eliminate the filler, this book would be half as long and much more enjoyable to read.

Continuous Progression

A good simple read. Good progression through each book. Seems to skip a little area where it seems something is at one stage and then backtrack later at another stage. Worth a read though.

Disappointed

Starts well then jumps around. Lost track of the story and interest. Really struggled to finish. I will not continue with this series.
