Happily ever after is a fantasy.

Raven Bloodrin is the treasured daughter of the High General, the second most powerful person in the kingdom. Living life as royalty, she has never known pain until her father vanishes. In his absence, she is forced to make impossible choices.

Each one costing her more than the last.

Betrayed by those she trusted, torn from her life of privilege. She will stop at nothing to save those she loves, even if it changes her into someone harder, colder, and more dangerous.

Inside the Blood Kingdom, uncertainty brews within the four clans, as King Nethias seeks more power. Raven is thrust into a world of deceit, where every moment strips her of who she used to be as she finds herself tortured and imprisoned. Though she’s not alone, her best friend and a handsome amber-eyed stranger are there to rescue her in more ways than one.

Because some stories don’t end in salvation.

Some end in ruin.

And this is the story of how a girl becomes a villain.

Thank you Kiana I. Alexanderia for providing me with an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A Fate Bound in Light and Shadows by Kiana Alexandria
Release date: 30th June

Oh my god! I’ve just finished this book and I’m completely speechless. It just HAS to be the BEST BOOK I’ve EVER read. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve read any super natural book where different characters have unique powers and they live in a peaceful magical realm. I guess this is why I love reading, as each book has its own amazing universe that never fails to capture my heart. Moreover they can travel through PORTALS! I’m honestly SO invested in this book and in love with all its characters especially Khalilen.

🗺️Plot
Raven Bloodrin is the daughter of the SECOND most powerful Etherborne, the first is the King. Despite being skillful and hardworking, she can’t channel enough power because of her foot injury due to an accident near the Blood River (the river that divides the high borns from the low borns).

Her father, Thaddeus Bloodrin is the right-hand man of the King and he’s also a very supportive and caring father. While her mother believes that Raven should focus on being a proper wife and constantly training her with proper etiquette as she can’t make far with her injury.

👯Friendships & characters
Raven also has 2 friends, Zayne and Crystal.
Zayne is her best friend since childhood, he’s always upto a mischief. While I really love the bond between Crystal and Raven. She’s the only true friend Raven has, especially when she leaves to find her dad after facing a number of betrayals, the only one that stood there for her even without her asking, was Crystal (a true friend indeed).

🌎World building and Romance
The world building is perfect. The author describes time, age and other important schedules as “Sky Cycles” & “Sun Rotations” which does not only makes this book different from others but also quite unique and a lot more interesting.

But that’s not all, just when it all seems perfect, there arrives King Nethias. The first impression of King Nethias gave me actual goosebumps, even knowing his Etheris was the most powerful, I did not expected his ruthless reaction followed by the most cruel punishment due to a simple trade agreement.

💖My most favorite character
Khalilen is my MOST favorite character, he made me laugh, smile, blush and cry during the whole journey. I won’t explain why I kept his intro for the end, you’ll just understand when you start reading this book. He is a friend they meet when they get stuck in a particular place (no spoilers here!). He is such a joyful, refreshing character. I couldn't help but laugh when their lips almost touched, and he said, “There will be time for that later.” 😂 Gosh, the tension between them is just crazy!

🎬Final Thoughts
I am honestly so in love with this book and cannot wait for everyone else to read it. If you love high-stakes fantasy, portal magic, incredible friendships, and heavy romantic tension, put this on your TBR immediately!

Is a villain born or made?
Do you have to have a black heart or bad morals to become a villain?
This prequel explores how a villain can be made and I am floored!

Following the silent, headstrong FMC with a disfigured and damaged foot, who also has self-esteem issues, we get to know the world of Ellyshia, the vast magical system (based on energy called Etheris) with different species (Etherborne/immortals, Fae, giants, humans, Fates/gods?). The FMC, Raven is the daughter of the High General and she is best friends with Crown Prince Zayne and highborn Crystal.
Raven quickly realises something is wrong in her kingdom, Blood Kingdom, and nobody wants to take proper action, so she does.

We have friendship, magic, lore, a quest, heartbreak, prophecies, cast system, suppression, power grabs, found family, betrayal, yearning to be loved, difficult parentage and more! All in 206 pages 😯
It is not even that fast paced but nicely spread out – but the first 15% or so is heavy with world-building and lore (it is Epic Fantasy) and that levels out.
It is a prequel so it sets up for the series and it makes sense. I was never bored once, only a little overwhelmed at times, but it never took away from the story. My biggest issue is that I want more – of Raven's story, of the side characters, of the romance and the mysteries. I know it's a prequel but it could easily have been 400 pages for me!

Time is described a little weird, so that took me out of it often. It's described in Sky Cycles, Sun passes and rotations, and cycles (undetermined). I would love a short overview at the beginning or the end. Plus a map would be fantastic for this world!

Kiana manages to describe the scenery and the people in great detail without taking up too many pages. It is easy to follow while also making you pay attention to the details – they are important!
And the ending leads perfectly up the series book 1. I was at the edge of my couch not guessing what came next but the shock and tears and rage 😭
Are you ready to root for the villain? 😏

I highly recommend you pick up this series! I will definitely be reading book 1 and learn more about Ellyshia. Even though I won't get to follow Raven anymore, not the same way, anyway.

World 🌍🌍🌍🌍/5 dumping a bit much in very few pages but such a vast world and lore
Romance ❤️❤️❤️/5 MMC 😭
Spice 0.5/5 kisses and 1 closed door
Characters 👥👥👥👥/5

Thank you so much to author Kiana I. Alexandria for the opportunity to read this as an arc. This review is my own honest opinion.

First of all, thank you to Kiana for selecting me as one of her ARC readers team. This is my first ARC and the experience has blown me away. I honestly think I would be comparing this feeling with a lot of books.

I believe this is the first book (in my new reading era) I have instantly connected with!

Connecting with the author and their way of writing is vital for you to love/understand a book and the way I clicked with this novela was instantaneously. The only reason it took me 2 weeks to finished it was because I was really busy 🥺.

Even though this is a prequel, it is an amazing standalone too. Kiana has build this amazing world and she shows it to you through Raven’s story.

A path ridden with loyalty, love, betrayal, hurt, political turmoil and vengeance. Kiana even gives a a quest! This novela has an exquisite world building that leave you wanting to learn more and more about it. Really clever ways of telling times, i.e: a sky cycle is a year and a sun rotation is a day. All of this in under 220 pages and the best part of it is that it doesn’t feel rush or lacking in any other way.

The loyalty she shows and the love she has for her friends and father are absolutely beautiful. It saddens me she wasn’t better prepared for the reality of her world and the politics around her, something that is not her fault.

I only wish she would have stopped and think things through and make a plan rather than just rushing to get her revenge/justice. It might have end the same way but at least she would have had more time to really soak in what she had and what could be lost.

Only reason why this is not a 5 stars for me is that being who she was, I believe she should have seen some things coming. And not trusting everyone so easily. Again, not her fault, in my head, her father failed her for not preparing her for their world’s power dynamics.

Other than that, I completely loved it and I can’t wait for more books in this world.

And again, thank you Kiana for this opportunity, can’t wait for the second book in the Etheris saga.

This book blew me away! I was hooked from the beginning and very intrigued with the world. I really enjoyed the authors writing and her way of story telling.

The world building was really good, although there were points where I was slightly confused, it usually came together in my mind later on (could just be a me thing). I felt like the world was very complex and compelling, but the author did a good job explaining it. The world was also very unique in how things were run, and the Void. The magic system was also very interesting and unique! I have not read a book with a similar magic system.

This book was different in a good way, it was like a breath of fresh air, I feel like a lot of books I have read recently have been copy and paste and this was not.

The main character Raven is so well written. All of the characters are. I feel like the character development in this book was so good for Raven. I loved her storyline and her character so much. I love Crystal too and how she is a ride or die for Raven.

There were points where the timing of this book confused me. But it was written clearly how much time had pasted between scenes and chapters, but because the book was so short it in a way felt super rushed even though it wasn't. I think I just needed to remind myself that there was a good amount of time in between. The timing did confuse me but that was due to me not following the time that had passed if that makes sense.

I really did enjoy this book, and the storyline. It was very unique and I did not find the book predictable either which is awesome. The little twists that happened made my jaw drop. I also love a book with a bittersweet story.

Overall I would give this book a 4.25 because I enjoyed it so much and it was unique and It made me feel. Thank you again for the ARC.

Huge thanks to Kiana I. Alexandria and The Indie Author Insider for providing an advanced reader copy of A Fate Bound in Light & Shadow.

I haven’t actually read the main Etheris series yet, but starting with this prequel turned out to be a really solid introduction to the universe. Even though it's technically a novella, it doesn't feel like a quick, breezy read; it takes its time building a grounded, unique atmosphere with details like portal travel and clever terms like "Sky Cycles" and "Sun Rotations" for time. While the magical realm seems peaceful at first, things take a sharp turn when King Nethias enters the picture, immediately raising the stakes and setting a pretty grim tone with his ruthless reaction to a simple trade agreement.

Raven’s path is anything but easy, and between her physical injury, her mother’s strict expectations, and a series of brutal betrayals, you really get to watch how deep loss and pain map out a person's future. Amid all the deceit, her bond with her friend Crystal was a major highlight, showing what true loyalty looks like. But my absolute favorite part of the book was definitely Khalilen, who brings a refreshing, joyful energy to an otherwise heavy plot. The romantic tension between him and Raven is incredibly well done; he clearly falls first, and his utter devotion, right down to calling her "darling," totally stole the show for me.

Just a heads up that this is not a happy story, and it very much lays the groundwork for how a girl becomes a villain. However, if you're looking for a solid, darker fantasy with high stakes, portal magic, and heavy romantic tension, it's definitely worth adding to your TBR list.

I wish I could've explored Raven's Origins more. It was an amazing story. I wish I could have seen more of the details, the days in between. It became difficult to tell the time and pacing of some chapters. So much had occurred in what felt like a short time (yes, I am aware its a novella). It just didn't help me to understand some of the characters as much as I wish I could've.

Now, just because I may not have been the biggest fan of the pacing doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the story. There is so much emotion that was passed through the characters. I wanted to reach through the pages and hold onto Raven and tell her that it was going to be okay. Having your whole life turned upside down within what felt like days really messes with a person's head. Seeing her struggle with everything that was happening, her need to be strong, to protect those she loved... It broke something in me.

I started rooting for her. I began to get excited at the same things she did. Nearly jumping off my couch in excitement when she was enjoying her life just a little bit more. Being able to connect the audience with the characters is an amazing skill of Kiana's. And I will gladly applaud her for a job well done.

This book will definitely be great for someone looking for a closed-door romantasy. Especially great for readers just getting into books with a strong FMC.

To Kiana - thank you again for the pleasure of reviewing your work. Please don't ever stop writing.

This was a very good book with a different magic system than I’ve ever read before. It was fast pace.
For me it was not the easiest to follow because I didn’t feel the details for said magic system or world were there

The love story also lacked lots of what I feel are important details. We don’t know anything about a “mate bond” until it’s already there and they are in love after a hot minute of raven going back and forth thinking it wouldn’t work because of her lovers status
To me that could’ve been cleared up with an inner monologue about mates

The plot twist of her mother and the king was predictable but like it and it wrapped up her mothers character well wirh resolve
However the brother ( not going to mention who ) was not exactly what I was expecting and his character gave me a huge Ick for not telling her

This 100% would’ve been a 4/5 star read for me if the magic system and world had been better detailed and the love story having more depth

However I did LOVE Raven her character growth was 10/10 for me
I truly felt she went from little girl to a woman based on Everything she learned and went through
Because of this I will be reading the book this was a prequel too
Crystal the “best friend” also had very good character depth to me . What started as juat girl friends and they ended fiercely loyal
Sometimes I forgot these girls were just 18

Overall I liked the book and am reading the next , there were just a few things that just didn’t do it for me but overall it was a fast paced easy interesting read . 3.75⭐️

⭐ ARC Review ⭐

Thank you to the wonderful author for letting me read an arc of this book! 🫶

I'll admit I went into this one blind. I had very little idea of what the plot would be or what the characters would be like. But boy oh boy, this book did not disappoint!

The novella follows Raven, as she embarks on a perilous journey with her best friend to find her missing father. I really enjoyed following this book from Raven's point of view, it turns an otherwise bright magical world into a dark and grim fantasy. Now, the relationship between Raven and her friend Crystal was heartwarming, really ride and die besties, and I enjoyed reading it. Now, the addition of Khalilen was really fun, it really encompasses the feeling of a young girl learning to live for herself.

Ok, so... The ending was as infuriating as it was satisfying, Raven really got to rage out and I love that for her. I was hanging on the edge of my seat the whole time. I think despite the shortness of the novella, and how much information was presented in a short time. Raven's character does have a pretty well rounded character arc, and I can see the foundations of future works in this universe.

On another note, I absolutely adored the world building of this book. I could read on and on about this world and its politics, social dynamics, and more. But maybe that's just the anthropologist in me!

I can't wait to see where Raven goes next!

To think this is just a prequel makes me so excited to read book 1. This book is a story of how love and betrayal can create a villain that you will want to love and root for.

We are taken on an adventure across the clan lands of Ellyshia with raven who is in search of her father, after betrayals are made and secrets unfold. In each new place comes new obsticles to overcome as they continue on their journey. Will she or wont she succumb to the darker choice.

The story beautifully builds slowly through interaction and diologue rather than narration, which i like as it makes it more immersive.
Khalilen and Crystals charcters are so lovable, and they really build a wholesome feel to the travelling group. They are both completely loyal and devoted to helping Raven, to hold her up and show her she is worthy just as she does for them.

That ending is epic! And i absolutely love what she chose.

As someone with disabilities affecting me physically, i loved the disabilty representation in this book. It was well covered and a main part of the story rather than a side part that gets forgotten.

Quotes ❤️

READ AS A ARC READ

This story follows a headstrong character. The book is filled with twists and turns showing that anyone can become a subject of villain activity, whether that be the people around you or even yourself.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The character building was incredible and showed that you can lean on someone’s shoulder and it may or may not be enough. I wish we got to spend more time with the characters however this is a prequel so it cannot reveal to much.

🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎
World build was intricate and well thought out and easy to follow along with. I did however struggle with the time measurements as it uses “sun cycles” which I assume are days and “sky cycles” which are the years.

🔮🔮🔮
The magic system was definitely a different take than other things I have read in the past and quite interesting however for the first 15% and even intermittently I had some difficulties following along the system

🌶️
spice is lower on the totem poll in this book, along side that there is no shortness of intimacy between two of the characters in fact there are points where I felt I wanted to listen to the unwitnessed conversations between the characters.

Over all I would recommend this book to any one wanting a short read with a fast pace. Especially people who may not be super into long fantasy.

Thank you so much Kiana I. Alexandria for choosing me as a ARC reader for this book.

**ARC Review**

‘Etheris: A Fate Bound in Light & Shadows’ is my introduction to Kiana I. Alexandria’s work and I was delighted by the world created. While not fully explored in this short novella, both the sun-centric descriptions and belief ideologies hint at a complex and interconnected system.

For me stepping back into both the YA and fantasy worlds, Alexandria’s ability to capture the interiority of a young woman is clear in this prequel, and felt deeply reminiscent a strong minded child’s exit from a sheltered childhood to the harsh vastness of adulthood. Raven’s journey, dilemmas, and ultimate sacrifices spin an interesting web and undoubtably lays an interesting foundation to others that are new to the world of ‘Etheris’. After completing the novella, readers have no choice but to ask themselves where Raven’s story goes and how it will impact the people and the world around her.

While I typically opt out of specific star ratings, I have given this novella 4 stars as it authentically situates the reader in the juvenile earnestness of a coming-of-age, and the chaos of a villain origin story.

Excited to see what else Kiana I. Alexandria has up her sleeves!

Thank you to the author for this ARC, as I do love a villain origin story!

This book has a lot of potential.
The FMC follows a nice character arch, the magic system is interesting, and the king and his cronies have a good foundation for a villain.

Unfortunately to me it all felt a bit rushed though.

While I liked all the ideas behind it, once the actions started going it sort of went from zero to 100, and left me with a few gaps to fill.

I didn’t really understand the Void, what it does, nor where it comes from.
I also would have liked a bit more world building to better understand the different races and towns, as well as the unique magic use via talisman.

I liked the MMC, but again the love story developed so quick without actually showing us many interactions within the 2.
It was proper insta love, and while my brain understood why it ends in heartbreak, my heart didn’t really connect to it.

Overall I’m still glad I’ve read this, and I’m sure the book will appeal to a lot of people out there.
A part of me does ache for the FMC, and I just wish there was more details and angst, allowing me to connect with her even more.

I would definitely recommend the book to somebody younger than me, who may get lost in too much world building.

I received this ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.

This was one of those fantasy books that seemed to uncover more questions each chapter. This Novella is a prequel to book 1 in the Etheris series.

Raven is a highborn with a future as queen but when her father disappears and nobody seems interested in finding him, she decides to take matters into her own hands. She takes matters into her own hands and goes a journey across different clans to dind him. There are hidden secrets, betrayals, and found love along the way.
Every time I thought I knew what was going on, another twist appeared. I will say that although I was invested in the journey, some of it was rushed. Especially toward the ending. Several major reveals happened quickly and some developments left me wishing for more. But the plot twist?!!! What?!!
3.75 ⭐️

Hidden secrets
Quest to save a loved one
Portal magic
Found family vibes
Fate and destiny
Betrayal

Overall, this was an entertaining fantasy packed with magic, mystery, family secrets, and twists that definitely caught me off guard. If you enjoy uncovering secrets this one is for you!

ARC Review:

Thank you to The indie author insider and Kiana for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!

I’m speechless. I cannot believe the amount of world-building, depth, and character development the author managed to fit into a novella.

I became so attached to our main character, Raven, very quickly. Her devotion to finding her father was so admirable, and her faith and trust in him were a joy to read about.

Her friendship with Crystal was so special. Crystal stood by Raven’s side through thick and thin throughout the story.

I fell in love with Khalilen’s character from the moment he was introduced. The development of his relationship with Raven had me smiling and kicking my feet.

The political atmosphere was incredibly tense and kept me wanting to uncover more throughout the story.

The ending absolutely gutted me. I was devastated by some of the events that unfolded and did not see them coming at all.

I’m so excited to continue this story and see what happens to Raven next.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was actually a very well written book. The way it was going wasn't a surprise, but it was still written so well that I wanted to continue.

The only notes I would have are not in anyway going to take away from the book at all.

The notes being, if you are going to write a fantasy book that involves different time terms, or different creatures… Own that. Put some kind of indicator in the front of the book that explains it. It wasn't had to get, but it still would have been nice to know it ahead of time. Some with the creatures. Some weren't really explained, but others were and I felt like it took away from putting me in the story. I didn't read book 1 before reading book 0.5, so maybe I missed some of the explanations from that book.

This is not a spicy book, but that doesn't diminish the book in anyway, but I do wish it had more build up instead of "NO!" "Bam! That ones mine."

The other thing is, I wish (since the author says you can read it as a stand alone) the ending didn't leave me with so many different question. And not in a way that makes you want to pick up the next book. I'm sure the next (first) book in the series answers these questions. However if you are going to label something as a stand alone, then you can't leave it to end that way. I ended up so lost on how things ended.

This novella certainly keeps you on your toes—each chapter seems to completely change the playing field.

Raven seems strong, brave, and determined to make her father proud, and in the end, she seeks vengeance in his name. The dynamics between her and the two MMCs are incredibly confusing at first, but by the end, some of those questions are answered.

It ends rather shockingly while still leaving so much unanswered. I would definitely be interested in learning more about the world, the magic system, and each of the characters' stories.
It was a great read, but it almost feels unfinished in a way that isn't quite a cliffhanger—it just left me wanting more depth and more time in the world.

I received this copy as an ARC and wanted to leave an honest review. You can tell the author truly loved the world and these characters; I just wished we had the chance to know them a little better as well!

Thank you to the author for the ARC!

Had a lot of elements I usually enjoy, tragic romance, surprising plot twists, and Raven's villain origin story that added depth to the overall narrative.
The romance was definitely the highlight for me. There was a bittersweet, heartbreaking quality to it that kept me invested in the characters and their journey. I also appreciated that a few twists genuinely caught me off guard, and I enjoyed seeing how Raven's story unfolded rather than having her be evil simply for the sake of it.

That said, I struggled at times to follow what was happening. There were several moments where I felt like I was missing information or that important details weren't fully explained, which made it difficult to stay immersed in the story. Because of that, I found myself confused more often than I would have liked.
Overall, the story had some strong ideas and emotional moments, even if the execution didn't fully come together for me.

This was my first look into the Etheris series, and I have fallen in love with this world! The author did a great job at world and character building. Especially with the time to build out side characters, which some authors glide over. I appreciated the details of the changing environments as the characters travelled. I look forward to reading the other books!

||Spoilers||
While I think the development of Raven and her journey were written so well, I felt like having more of a guide on how time passes in this world and a map would have helped beforehand. It was hard to discern how much time actually passed. Also, while I understand that this is a novella, I felt that the romantic aspect was rushed and suddenly BAM! They're married and she's pregnant.

But overall, I loved this book (especially that ENDING! OMG!), and look forward to more!

Note: this is a closed-door romance, so no spice.

This was a quick read. I liked the book. I feel like the mate and love story was rushed but it was good and had a good ending. I think a lot of the story and people could have been explained and given more detail to really make this a 4/5 star read. I would have liked to see more from the main characters about their love story building and not just a weird immediate snap. I didn't realize there were fated mates in this book until that moment and then all of a sudden there was a mate bond and they were in love. It could have been interesting to see more of the first initial couple's story and a point of view of the first male love interest. He would have been a character I would have loved to see the story from his point of view, and instead, he was made a villain in the story. To me he was as much a victim as the fmc.

If you love fantasy packed with magic, secrets, and shifting loyalties, this book needs to be on your radar.

I love when the FMC is named Raven. It usually foreshadows they'll do great things. She's so determined and doesn't let the world knock her down. I love her friendships and their rapport.

The world-building was excellent in this novella. It showed us enough without being overwhelming.

The plot twists were unreal. Every time you think you've guessed where it's going, it throws a curveball. Really well done!

The ending did feel a bit rushed, but it makes me want to jump to the next book.

I’m giving it 5 ⭐️’s because it is good but I’m too mad to write a review right now lol

Ugh!!!! First I’ll say I don’t love having sympathy for a villain from the first book and I don’t love that she chose how she did which ultimately turns her into the villain from first book. I found myself wanting her to have all the good she could have had but then of course we wouldn’t have book 1. 🫣

It’s a tragic origin story with heartbreak and betrayal that leaves you understanding to a degree why the fmc turns to the dark side but I’m refusing to give her grace. And now I’m nervous that Reyna is following that same path 😭

Questions were answered, plot twists were had but now even more I need book 2!!!

“Scarred from a childhood accident, Raven lives in the privileged Blood Kingdom but is forced to make impossible, life-altering choices when her father disappears on a secret mission.”
This book was very exciting! I really liked the writing style and it was a fun adventure.
However, the ending I wasn’t super happy with. During the mission to find her father, it was exciting and good twists. But then things started to feel really rushed. By the end, I had a bit of whiplash. I feel like the book just should have been a little longer. The FMC also was very reactive. There wasn’t much thought behind her decisions. It often was “I know I shouldn’t do this, but I’m going to anyway.”
I would recommend this book, but be prepared for ending to be a little chaotic.

I loved Raven’s fire and determination from the very beginning. Her compassion for others shines throughout the story, and I admired how far she was willing to go to make things right, especially when she set out to find her father when it seemed like no one else would.

I was hooked from the start and appreciated that it was such a quick, engaging read. Raven’s love story had a few twists I didn’t see coming. At times, I found myself wanting a little more buildup before certain developments, but as the story unfolded, I could see why the author chose that path and it ultimately made sense for the characters and plot.

The ending left me eager to see what happens next for Raven, and I’m looking forward to finding out how her journey concludes.

First things first thank you to the author for providing me an advanced readers copy, in exchange for an honest review.

This was a quick read which I anticipated it being since it is a novella. Right off the bat it feels like your thrust into this magical world that's easy to get lost in due to it being rushed through. The world building magic system did get really confusing to me because there were so many plot holes.
The romance and "Fated Mates" felt shallow and under developed. You don't really know about the MC's being "Mates" until it just clicks and they're in love.
Given the negative aspects I felt like the story has so much potential and it was still enjoyable. Just not for me.

So im not sure about the ending. Like I wanted more but it also seems just in a way. The story was going in one direction and the pivot it took with SO many lies being unearthed was jarring. The heartache she endures changes her far more than anything else. The book is mostly about Raven wanting to find her father after he's sent off on a mission. She has no path, no authority, just the need to find him. This one solid choice changes absolutely everything she thought she knew. It's a great story and it will definitely keep you locked in the entire time. My interest is peaked to read more from this author.

Thank you to Kiana Alexandria for providing this ARC for my honest review!

There were parts of this book I liked but most of it did not work for me. The main Character, Raven, was able to overcome a lot of challenges and adversity in search for her father. I liked Raven a lot! She was strong and a good leader, for being 18 I think she read older and not too young.

I did not like to romance or how fast things progressed. There was a lot that felt rushed and there were so many things crammed in. I understand this is a novella so naturally shorter but I think it would have been better to stretch the story out to keep in all the plot points!

ARC received by Author in exchange for an honest review

I did enjoy this book. I thought it had a lot of potential. I loved the different take on how magic can be used. I also loved the dynamic between FMC and her family and friends.

I personally felt that the story was rushed. I would have liked more world building to explain why some things were happening. Also, I felt that the relationship the FMC develops came out of nowhere and needed a little more build up, and some kind of progression, instead of going from nothing to everything pretty much overnight.

Overall, I thought this was a nice opener to the series. I look forward to seeing what happens in book 2.

**** ARC READER REVIEW****

I was completely swept away. I didn’t expect to connect so deeply with the characters, but their struggles, choices, and quiet moments hit me in a way that felt strangely personal. There were scenes that made me pause just to sit with the emotion, and others that had me grinning like an idiot. The blend of darkness and hope is beautifully done, and the writing has this intimate, almost whispered quality that stays with you. Definitely highly highly recommend to everyone!!!

The concept was interesting as were the characters.
The pacing of the story couldn't decide on an actual pacing. Some bits of the story seemed too slow and some seemed like they were too fast. This might be because it is a novella not a full length book.
This is a villain origin prequel. I have not read the Etheris series , and this was the first exposure I had to this series.
There are lots of layers to this story and to Raven's story.
Some twists seem like they came out of no where, but they do make sense to the story.
