Journey through the Text of A Course in Miracles

Rate this book
As with the preceding books in this series on the books of A Course in Miracles, Journey through the Text of A Course in Miracles originated with lectures thirty-two in number given by me at the Foundation for A Course in Miracles. These were then transcribed, edited, and enlarged upon. However, unlike the books on the workbook, manual for teachers, and "What It Says" (from the Preface), this book is not a line-by-line exegesis of the entire text. Rather, the material of each of the text's thirty-one chapters is arranged symphonically by theme, the selected passages chosen to illustrate each theme. Moreover, I have added some material from each chapter, which time constraints prevented me from including in the original lectures. This Journey, therefore, is a symphonic portrait of the thought system of A Course in Miracles, and is meant to lead students through the text as one would be guided in listening to a great piece of its themes presented, and their development and their relationship to the larger work pointed out. In effect, then, this book is a symphony about a symphony, and readers are led non-linearly along their journey through the Course. Journey through the Text of A Course in Miracles thus completes the series on each of the three books of A Course in Miracles (and the Preface). It is my hope and prayer that it will be instrumental in facilitating a student's journey through the vast panorama of wisdom and love that constitutes the Course's unique contribution to the spiritual development of our species. In the wonderful quotation from Beethoven that I have cited many times From the heart; may it go to the heart.

Volume Four started 10/31/2021, finished July 23, 2022

On reaching the end of this final volume of Journey Through the Text of A Course in Miracles, I feel as if I'm saying goodbye to a dear friend, who will always remain a friend, and whom I will visit with again from time to time. This four-volume set has been my morning reading for a few years now, and while it's sometimes gone very slowly, and sometimes I've left off for weeks at a time, it's always a reliable source of peace to return to, and provides me with lessons that I do my best to carry into the day. Of course I rarely succeed in keeping it with me all day. That's the point, this is a practice, and a lifelong study.

But now I'm moving on to Kenneth Wapnick's Fifty Miracle Principles of A Course in Miracles, which is much shorter. It's sourced from transcripts and tapes of a workshop he gave in New York in 1984, with several newer editions since then.

If memory serves, the following, earlier, review was of Volume One and/or Two, finished April 24, 2018:

Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D. was my favorite teacher of ACIM, and thankfully his books are still with us. They are like gold for Course students. He had a hand in putting the Course into a publishable form to begin with, and he knew the material intimately and had such an excellent handle on it that his explanations reveal nuances most of us don't even notice until he points them out. I've collected as many of his books on A Course in Miracles as I can afford to, many as Kindle editions and some, like this, as paper editions. The Journey Through series is the best, most thorough gold-mine of Course commentary I've found.
