December 24, 1975. Two innocent handymen are summoned to 112 Ocean Avenue to fix a boathouse door. Little do they know that the Lutz Family is living through a nightmare in the main house...and now they will be sharing that nightmare. In the next few hours, Owen Blake and Randy Hallowell will encounter inexplicable events, malevolent spirits, and a force beyond understanding. If they survive, it will change them...forever. Now: Experience the previously untold story of what happened at the Amityville house on that awful Christmas Eve.
Nothing has changed in 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville. This time we accompany two workmen on their trip to the house. They have to repair the lock of the boathouse. Soon they are confronted with extremely eerie things. Will they survive the Amityville horror? I really enjoyed this creepy, fast paced novella with many references to what we already know about the horror house and its residents. The frame story is well done and I was very glad to read another episode about one of the most sinister houses ever. Quite a shocking book, full of uncanny moments. Really recommended!
The good: super fast at 98 pages. This novella was eerie at the start. I wasn’t bored, I guess. The bad: POORLY published to start. Editing and grammar and punctuation mistakes all over every page. The publisher or the editor shouldn’t be in business, for sure. The characters aren’t developed at all beyond religious affiliation. The scares never develop much nor are any of the monsters explored or developed. It is a novella, i get it; but, what’s horror without some depth in the characters and monsters? I wouldn’t read this author again and I can’t say I’d recommend. It was standard, gimmicky, poorly written, but not boring. That’s the best I can say for it.
A fictional side story to the main (semi-fictionalized) account of the alleged Amityville paranormal event, this quickie Christmas novella sometimes feels dashed off, but the scare sequences, including a really effective haunter in Rotting Girl, liven things up. Not a bad way to spend an hour during the Christmas season!
More a novella (98 pages) than a novel... This story is set during the time of the original Amityville Horror in 1975. Christmas Eve, 1975....2 handymen get a job to fix a boathouse door. They are told by their boss that they are not to bother the homeowners at all. Jus fix the boathouse door, then leave. Sounds simple....it's not. If you're a fan of the original book, you should enjoy this one. The feel of the first book is here....and the creepy things that happen for into the spirit of The Amityville story. George Lutz has a very small cameo..... (If bad spelling and bad grammar bother you, be warned. There is a little of both. But it didn't bother me)
It's not very long, and it starts off well. I actually was fairly into it in the beginning. But then it just became a story about a couple of guys trapped in a boathouse by demons.
Now that I think about it, I'm fairly sure John G. Jones wrote the collection of Amityville object short stories that were made into 'straight to VHS' movies in the 90s. The dollhouse, the clock (which was possibly the worst film of all time), and my favourite one about the evil lamp. Boathouse would make a good low budget 90s film.
This was promising at the beginning. The horror scenes were well described, spooky and creepy. Unfortunately, the plot seemed incomplete. You don‘t know the purpose of the presence of these ghosts/demons. The story began someone telling the story to others and that part never closed, why he was telling the story, what was the purpose. It seems the author has strong religious believes because everything was resolved by praying.2⭐️
