A year has passed since the Jordan kids developed super powers and their parents split up. Thirteen-year-old Zach, the oldest, has been doing his best to juggle the pressure of keeping their powers secret, and dealing with his new family structure. If there’s one thing the previous year taught Zach, it’s that keeping his feelings inside is the best course of action. But when Zach runs into Zoe, a new girl in the neighborhood, things get even more complicated. Zoe seems to have a super power and is very concerned about a rash of cases of neighborhood pets getting hurt or going missing. Oh, and one more thing, Zach thinks Zoe is impossibly beautiful. The more the Jordan kids and their friends investigate the missing pets, the more they find out that the story of their superpowers is even more tangled and dangerous than they ever suspected. Zach is doing everything he can to keep the neighborhood animals safe, and the kids’ powers a secret, but can he keep his own feelings safe and secret in the process?
Hillel Cooperman has pretended to be a superhero since he was a small child. He conceived of the story of the Madrona Heroes in the summer of 2012 on a trip abroad with his family. By winter, he had started writing in earnest. He lives in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle with his three children, their three cats, and thousands of Lego bricks. His superpower is procrastination. The Madrona Heroes Register is his first novel.
(Hillel also gives his books to librarians completely free of charge. So if you're a librarian, drop him a line.)
I read the first book in the series and loved it so I was very excited to see that a second book came out. Wow! This one was even better than the first book (which was pretty darn great). The author has done an incredible job of building a literary world which seems real even with the fantastic nature of the content. I’m an adult and got sucked in and couldn’t put the book down. I imagine that young adults would do the same. Authors who are able to walk that line with content that works so well across age groups are pretty rare even though many try. I highly recommend this book!
Hillel is a brilliant and creative writer, and his newest book showcases the skills he has developed. The further you get into Madrona Heroes, the more hooked you'll be, check it out!
This book is greatly entertaining. Good characters, good plot and interesting enough for you to keep turning the "pages" quickly! Thanks to the author!
Adorable and wonderful. I swallowed this book down in two days. Delightful characters, a fun adventure and a great set-up for the next installation. I love these kids.
