Bio...
Shiloh Walker has been writing since she was a kid. She fell in love with vampires with the book Bunnicula and has worked her way up to the more...ah...serious vampire stories. She loves reading and writing anything paranormal, anything fantasy, and nearly every kind of romance. Once upon a time she worked as a nurse, but now she writes full time and lives with her family in the Midwest.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Neve McKay is on the run and even though she hasn't been back in almost a decade, home is where she is headed. After her parents died in a car wreck, Neve's older sister and brother were left to take care of her. Her older sister barely an adult and her brother just in his teens, tried to be what she needed but they were hurting, too. Rebelling for most of her childhood she takes off at eighteen looking for freedom but instead she meets William and finds herself caged in a way she never could have imagined. Ian spots the tall red-head as soon as she enters his pub and finds himself well on his way to a hot one night stand. When they get interrupted though, he finds out she is his bestfriend's little sister and he backs away immediately. That doesn't last too long however, as he finds their chemistry and attraction isn't something you just walk away from. Ian is making Neve feel things she never thought she could again but with danger riding her heels and a brother and sister wanting answers, she's scared to get too attached. The small southern town of McKay's Treasure is about to see some hard fighting and loving.
Headed For Trouble is book one in the new series by Shiloh Walker about the McKay family, older sister Moira, middle brother Brannon, and youngest Neve. When Moira was eighteen and Brannon thirteen, their parents and an eight year old Neve were in a car accident. Neve was trapped in the car with them for hours as they lay dying until Moira's boyfriend at the time, Gideon, found them. Moira had the responsibility of trying to run the family business and Brannon was a teenage boy not wanting his youngest sister crawling into his bed at night to stop her nightmares, Neve ended up feeling lost and alone. Instead of calling this book one, I would call it part one as this highlights Neve's story and romance more but overall this is a story about the whole McKay family and those affected by them. We get point of views from all three and from who look to be their future significant others. Moira's past with Gideon is discussed, childhood sweethearts who caught a rough break having to deal with adult issues too young and Brannon's repressed desire for his younger sister's friend that recently becomes more than he can handle. The whole first book is really more of a broad ranged inclusive McKay story.
She'd done nothing wrong.
Neve's story highlighted here, introduces us to her family, the small town of McKay's Treasure, and all the people and relationships that make it up. The main theme of her character and what was the strongest component, was her feelings as an abused woman. Her insecurities that lead her to William and the insecurities he nourished in her are stated and bleed through her actions and words throughout the story. It's powerful and will cut you up on the inside as the reasoning's for why some women don't "just leave" are examined. Some of the actual things done to Neve by William felt a little rushed through but as no one probably wants to dwell on that, maybe not a bad thing. Following along with Neve as we see her work to rebuild her strength was a touching journey.
When she was with Ian, she felt like…herself. She felt like herself in a way that she hadn't in far too long, maybe forever.
There was a lot going on in this book, I feel like this could have been 600pgs and still left some things not feeling fully flushed out, a consequence of that was I felt the character of Ian and his romantic relationship with Neve was pushed to the side a lot. Ian made the least impression on me, even with his brogue and kilt. Along with being Neve's love interest, the author also managed to tie him into the suspense plot but there was simply too many other characters and relationships that made a bigger impact on me. Neve and Ian are sweet together, he is cognizant and thoughtful to Neve's issues but I didn't sit up and take notice the way I did when others graced the pages.
Neve's ex-boyfriend William and the danger he posed, provides the suspense plot I've mentioned but it worked better as a way to get all our characters together rather than create a sense of danger. This is a story of relationships and boy do I want to read about them; Moira and Gideon, with his intense longing and Brannon and Hannah with their surprise cliffhanger at the end of this one. With one of the McKay siblings out of the way, maybe the next books will have a stronger centralized romance. There was a lot happening here and some threads left dangling, it felt like I was reading a season's worth of a tv series barely condensed down. With Walker's writing and the characters/relationships that look to be the future stars of the show, prepare yourself to want to binge; I'll be pre-ordering the books in this series.
Neve McKay left home in search of a fresh start, a new future away from her home town only to find herself running back there for safety ten years later.
Ian Campbell is a Scottish transplant, running a bar for the McKay family. One night, while working, Ian sees a beautiful woman, oozing vulnerability, that he has to know.
The attraction is instant but the damage might be wounds that run too deep for healing.
Headed for Trouble is a wonderfully touching romance. This is a story filled with distressed family relations, budding romances, and tragic but very realistic circumstances. I couldn’t help but find myself immediately engaged by this emotion invoking plot base. Walker wove a marvelous story with extremely likeable and relatable characters that you wanted to invest time in their lives.
I received this ARC copy of Headed for Trouble from St. Martin's Press in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication December 29, 2015.
Neve is running from trouble and she seeks the support of her estranged family. She hasn't had it easy and the reasons for her suffering go deeper than even she initially knew. She feels and instant attraction to her brother's best friend Ian and Ian is stuck as well. There's a lot of emotion in this story and the writing does it justice. I enjoyed the development of the unique characters. The pacing was on point and it was entertaining while sexy.
I really liked this book, but I feel I must warn my fellow romance readers that the romance between the H/h takes a back seat to the several - and I mean, sometimes too many - side stories that pop throughout the book. That might be frustrating for some romance readers and I admit that I was scratching my head pondering where the romance was in the first chapters, but once the story got its flow, it was all good.
It didn't take long before I was sucked into this one. Right from the start I was on Neve's side as she came home. You knew she was hiding something, that she was one the run and that if she could have she wouldn't have come home unless she was left no other choice. The last I thing was a wrong decision, so many things in the past were not what the seemed and Neve wouldn't have to worry about what her family thought.
My heart broke for Neve when she told her story, Gideon was a good choice as she would need the help police help, yet he was a family friend so safe. Worse though was when Neve told her family. Bannon's reaction was crazy as was how he dealt with it. I sort of laughed at his bet with Ella Sue and how she would deal, this was one bet that I didn't want any one to win.
Ian slowly won me over, much like Neve. I didn't expect him to after his first reaction to learning about who Neve was. It helped that as Neve's story came out Ian was there and learned all the bad things. He was so gentle with Neve, slowing building her self confidence back up.
As Neve's past came back to hunt her it was nice to see everyone rally around her. The big confrontation at the end had me holding my breath. I hated how the girls got hurt, but love that Neve managed to save them all.
As much fun as the romance was between Ian and Neve, her siblings were just as interesting. You can tell how will end up with them. I look forward to reading about them to see how easy or hard their journey will be!
Returning home after almost a decade away, Neve has no idea what to expect from her brother and sister, since they never responded to her letters. With trouble trailing her, she has no other choice than to face the music. She never expected the barman in kilt, though. Ian left Scotland to help out a friend with his bar, he didn´t think meeting the sister would be this flammable, and when danger comes calling he will help. Secrets and danger lurks everywhere, and soon the whole family is in danger. Contemporary romance, suspense and smutty fluff in a great combo, can´t wait to see how Moira and Brennan´s HEA will play out. Disclaimer; I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
What a great way to end my year!! This book was absolutely amazing and Shiloh Walker is someone that I'll be keeping my eye on for a very long time. I can't believe that it took me so long find her and I regret all of the lost time that I could have been reading her books. I've added a bunch of her works to my reading list and I can't wait to get started on them.
Headed for Trouble seemed like a great read when I first started it and it soon became one of those books that readers always search for ... the kind that will suck you in and not let you go until the very end. When I sat down to write this review, I went to look at my notes (because I always keep notes ... usually TONS of them) and I didn't have any. Not one. I was so immersed in the book that I couldn't pull myself away to jot down any notes on what I liked or didn't like. To be honest, I can't think of a single thing that I didn't like about this book. I absolutely loved every single second of my reading experience with this one.
I found all of the characters really believable and most of them were completely endearing. Massive character building success! There were a few bad dudes that I HATED with a passion but that was also a success. This author made me fall in love with characters and then want to punch a couple others in the throat; to get me to have such strong emotions towards characters that I just met is amazing. It's hard to find authors who so fully flesh out every single character. To put that kind of depth into so many fictional characters must be incredibly difficult. The kicker is that there were quite a few characters ... like 15 whom we (the readers) need to keep up with but I didn't struggle with it in the least. And this was with picking the book up and then putting it down constantly because our boys are on winter break.
I can't say enough about this plot. The story had quite a few facets to it and while it was intricate and the plot was interwoven with a few subplots, it read very easily. The book didn't go too deep into descriptions but it didn't skimp on them either. It was simply put, a perfect mixture of every "ideal book" component. I really couldn't have asked for a better reading experience. I wish that all books had read like this one did. I will definitely be reading this again and I'm absolutely going to follow this series and this author from now on. Such a great ending to an awfully full reading year.

Headed for Trouble is the beginning of a new trilogy series by Shiloh Walker. Built around a trio of siblings-the McKays-this romance suspense blends an intense emotional romance with a nail-biting suspense storyline as the youngest McKay, Neve, finally comes home after leaving so many years ago. On the run from an abusive ex-boyfriend, she is forced to come clean about her ordeal and let in the family she feels abandoned her to her fate. Walker does a good job of addressing domestic violence and the mindset of someone who finds themselves victimized by someone they love. The main storyline is influenced heavily by the building the arc and character backgrounds though it doesn’t take away from your enjoyment of the story overall. Walker drops hints as to what is in store for the other siblings while creating an action-packed finale to this installment. Fans of Walker’s will be left both satisfied by the ending but more than ready for the next installment-The Trouble With Temptation-which is set to release May 3, 2016.
Shiloh Walker's newest series The McKays starts off with a bang. This was a great read. Shiloh Walker does it again she creates a small town of gossipy bizzy bodies, a heroine with a dark past, and a strong sexy Scottish hero. Neve is a poor little rich girl, but it's a deserved title. She was eight when her parents died and her two older siblings and the housekeeper were left to raise her. Neve was desperate for attention and she learned early on that if she behaved badly she got the attention of her family. Moira was eighteen and was left to go to college and run the corporation her parents ran, and Brannon only thirteen. Neve then started the domino effect of her bad behaviour that lead to the nickname Trouble. It wasn't until a bad experience in highschool that she was doing it all wrong. She tried to change her ways but everybody would not let her past mistakes go. This is Neve's story but it also teases a little bit about Moira and Brannon stories too.
Neve left home after high school because she wanted to prove to her family that she could make it on her own if she tried. She did, she became a model but her job was getting in the way of her school and then she was swept of her feet by the a rich british man. For ten years she has been gone and for the last six she has been on the run, hiding from William Clyde. With no place left to go, to hide, she returns home hoping that her family can offer her the safety she needs. Being back home Neve still feels like an outsider, the letters she wrote when she was gone all came back return to sender. She doesn't know how her family will react to seeing her again. Especially after the last time she saw Brannon she threw a classic Neve temper tantrum and left, it was also the last time William beat her.
Ian is the sexy Scot that manages the pub in town. Neve's first night back Ian was enchanted with her beauty and it would have lead to a very, very satisfying night if they hadn't been interrupted. And when Ian finds out she is his best friends little sister he gets that sinking, aww shit, feeling in his gut. After talking to to Brannon, Ian decides he's going to go after Neve either way. Neve isn't looking for a relationship with her past experience only being a sociopath who almost killed her and has been stalking her for six years Neve is understandable hesitant. But Ian does his best to woo her and become the kind of friend she needs right now; if that leads to more all the better. Ian is successful, just by being their for her and understanding her and most important to her he believes her story about William.
Moira and Brannon welcome back their little sister with open arms and finally begin to mend the broken ties between them. It's a lot easier now that they know the full truth about what happened in the time she was gone. Let us not forget to mention Gideon, bad boy turned town Sheriff, ex-boyfriend of Moira who's still in love with her. Gideon is as much a brother to Neve as Brannon, he has always been their for her and never believed the gossip about her. This book teases us with the history of Moira and Gideon and some unanswered question about some of the stuff that has happened. It also introduces us to Hannah :) another one of Neve's only true friends in school; and it leaves us off with the start of Brannon and Hannah's story.
Overall, this is a great read. I love the characters and the story line it's funny and suspenseful all the while Ian is the sweetest hottest book boyfriend since Mrs. Walker's Decker. I love me a ginger.
ARC Review Headed for Trouble is book one in the McKay’s series. Neve McKay comes home after a decade away. Not sure what kind of reception she will receive from her brother and sister, she comes home to recuperate and reconnect. On her first night in town, she meets the local pub manager, Ian Campbell. They are overwhelmed by their attraction, but things get complicated by his friendship with Neve’s brother Brannon and the circumstances of her return.
Shiloh Walker’s characters tap into deep emotional reservoirs in this story about surviving abuse, coming home, and forgiving yourself and your family. Having read several of this authors other series, including the Ash Trilogy, Rafferty and Secrets and Shadows, there one thing I know for sure, Shiloh Walker knows how to write about the emotional cost of survival. Neve returns to confront her past and find strength to address her present situation. She has to learn to forgive herself and grow from her past. She learns how guilt can be debilitating. This growth takes place in the context of coming home and a new relationship.
I really enjoyed the relationship between Neve and Ian. I was a little worried at first that this was too much insta-love as their first encounter was incendiary, but I really liked how the relationship evolved. The way Ian behaves toward Neve is so tender. He knows when to handle Neve with kid gloves, knows when she needs space, and knows when do give her a hug. His emotional awareness makes him one of my favorite heroes. I also appreciate that Ms. Walker refrains from making this relationship overdramatic. Neve’s character is already dealing with multiple issues and this connection is a safe harbor.
As the first book of the McKay’s, we are also introduced to the characters that will populate the series including Neve’s sister, Moira, and her former boyfriend and current police chief, Gideon; and Neve’s brother, Brannon, and his neighbor and friend to Neve, Hannah. I really enjoy these personalities and Ms. Walker gives us just enough to hook us for the forthcoming stories. I’m particularly looking forward to Moira and Gideon’s story because I’m a sucker for second chance themes and this one promises to be a doozy.
In A Nutshell Headed for Trouble is an irresistible start to a new series. Filled with colorful characters, emotional drama and suspense, I’m looking forward to reading more.
Sometimes I felt that this book had TOO much information and characters thrown at me at once. I felt Headed For Trouble was more like a "part 1" in the McKay family saga rather than "Neve's" story. Don't get me wrong, I liked the book and will (probably) read the other's, but I just wish there was less "McKay's" and more Neve and Ian. It just made the story hard to follow and how everyone was connected to everyone else.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
**I received an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.**
I was sold on this book the second I read that Ian was Scottish. Call it what you will but I have a soft spot (and a wet spot) for hot scots in kilts. Upon discovering that he has a beard I promptly orgasmed.
And then something even better happened – I loved the story. While beards and dirty accented words can leave me walking funny, the plot needs to hold me up. This one more than carried me.
Neve’s harrowed past is presented in a suspenseful and intriguing way – the writing allows you to piece together the bits and pieces until the whole horrid tale comes to light and I love that page turning style. William, her ex, his coming for her and Neve’s decided to stop running and finally comes home after ten long years away. The questions swirl around her when she steps foot back into her small town and the rumors start to spread almost immediately. Meeting Ian was a fluke – but a hot as fuck fluke that I wanted her to re-do over and over again. Don’t worry, this book is full of fluking.
Neve’s strong will and stiff backbone made me love her at once. It only took once glance from Ian for him to feel the same way. These two fit together so perfectly and I had to stop myself from physically swooning more than once. They’re struggling to gain their footing in this newfound and unexpected relationship – but Ian is utterly fantastic at giving Neve was she needs (and what she begs for).
Shiloh develops each character with ease and draws you into the quick paced story. While we know that Neve’s on the run – and we also know from what – you don’t know how it all is going to shake out. Being kept on the edge keeps the relationship drama low and the suspense high.
Wonderfully smart and seriously entertaining I was so fucking sad when it ended. I could read Shiloh’s writing for days.
Suspense, heat, quick love and serious seduction: what’s not to love?!?! Get in this book!
So this is the first book in what I am assuming is the latest trilogy from Shiloh Walker. If you have read her Ash Trilogy then you can expect a similar style of story in this series. Headed for Trouble is Neve Mackay and Ian Campbell's story but you can expect to read a lot about the MacKay siblings, I expect that each book is going to have their own individual story like Neve's in this one but there will be a major story line that follows through all 3 books and I think it will start with the crime we come across at the end of this book, you will know what I'm talking about when you read it. I actually love the way Shiloh Walker writes her series like this and they are like a combination of a serial/series because I think as a reader I become more invested in the story and reading the next book because I learn so much about the next story/s in each book, it's sort of like being given a teaser chapter where you just want the next book now!
Now I have to say I loved the characters we got to meet. Neve was such a strong character and I found her and Ian really likeable and I loved the intermixed relationships of all the characters giving relationships a really strong foundation. The crime/drama part of the story was great and if this series is anything like the Ash Trilogy you will be guessing right up until the end which is always great for the suspense portion of a book. I would definitely recommend this book especially if your a fan of Nora Roberts, Julie Garwood or Karen Robards and if you like this book you should try her Ash Trilogy too.
The best part of this story was Ian. Dear Lord above, I want me one of him. Maybe two. Amen.
Lots of unanswered questions. Some are lead-ins to the other stories in this series, but a few of them seem to be plot threads that have simply been forgotten. When an author has their characters repeatedly make a big deal out of something, I damn well expect to find out the truth about it before I finish reading. So -1 star for that bullshit.
This story was great! I was happy that Neve got to be with her family again and after she had been gone for 10 years they still treated her like she belonged there. Ian he was the best protective of her since the moment she walked into the bar. Them together were cute he was patient with her, and the other characters were great and supportive. Can't wait for for the next book
love a good book about a woman on the run. I came across this one on Netgalley and since it was by an author I’d heard (but never read anything by) I jumped on it. It was a bit disappointing though.
Shiloh Walker did do a great job of giving us an idea of how a woman can sometimes find herself in the situation where she ends up being physically abused and by this I mean the mindset involved before, during and after. Sometimes books just skip over that part and I think it’s a missed opportunity.
Neve’s life was marred by tragedy when she was 8 years old and both her parents were killed in a car wreck. Neve fell through the cracks, with her 18-year-old sister too busy in school and running the family’s large business, and her brother being 13 and not wanting to deal with a troubled younger sister. She quickly discovered the only way to get attention was to cause trouble and that soon became her nickname. By the time she graduated highschool, tensions were high between her and her siblings, and Neve left for school feeling left out, unneeded, and unwanted. Her mindset made her prey to William, who ended up abusing her terribly. She runs for a long time, going from place to place and when he finds her she leaves again. She eventually decides to make a stand and runs home even though she was unsure of her welcome.
A couple things bugged me from the get go. First, she couldn’t have been too serious about running since she never changed her name and always went to places familiar to her, sometimes where she had friends. She even kept a phone that he had the number to. She was also extremely well off, but didn’t utilize her money (except for one time when she used a lawyer from the family business), coming home with second-hand clothes and a junky car. This just didn’t sit right with me. I wanted to like her but she just never won me over. Although I felt bad about her history, her actions and decisions just annoyed me, especially when she hit TSTL territory with the whole “I know I have a man after me who sliced and diced me, but I’m strong and independent so don’t need to be babysat”. Cue eye roll.
Anyway, she rolls into town and immediately meets the sexy kilt wearing Scot, Ian, managing a local bar. Cue insta-connection and within an hour or so, Ian and Neve are just about to get it on. Due to a cascade of events, they didn’t but it was close.
I did like Ian. He definitely pushed all the right buttons with me. Alpha, hot, loyal, funny, and determined to get his woman. My issue was that because there was so much going on, it felt like I never got why Neve pushed all his buttons. Other than he thought she was the sexiest thing he’d possibly ever seen, we didn’t get to see why he was so enamored with her. For me, the connection between them just wasn’t there.
Most of this book was spent on repairing the relationship between Neve and her siblings but it never really got to the heart of what the major rift was. We know there was a blowup because they mentioned it, but we were never given the why’s, how’s, and what was said. We also know that over the years letters were sent back that Neve had sent, but we don’t know how that happened. We also had a lot of words and pages spent on the love interests in the siblings lives, I assume to set up future books for them. With so much going on with Neve, this made the book feel kind of all over the place, plus at the end several threads were left hanging – like those letters.
I really, really wanted to like the book, but by the end I was just skimming the pages, trying to get through it. Headed For Trouble may work well for others, but it didn’t work for me at all, besides the sexy kilt wearing Scotsman – he actually did work for me.
Spice’s Rating: 2.5 Disappointed Stars.

REVIEW: 3.75 stars---HEADED FOR TROUBLE is the first installment in Shiloh Walker’s contemporary, adult, romantic suspense series focusing on the McKay family from the small Mississippi town of McKay Treasure. This is youngest daughter Neve McKay, and Scotsman/bar manager Ian Campbell’s storyline.
Told from several third person perspectives HEADED FOR TROUBLE focuses on Neve McKay’s return home to McKay Treasure following nine years of separation from her family and friends. Following the death of her parents Neve became something of a wild child and with it all of the stereotypical behavior and family disappointment. By the time our heroine was ready to set out on her own, she had become more or less a stranger to her older siblings. But years away from family finds Neve seeking the love and shelter of the people she knows will protect her with their lives-Neve is on the run, and has been for a number of years-and McKay Treasure is the last place she knows where the people will ensure her safety. Enter Ian Campbell-Neve’s brother Brannon’s best friend-and the man who would steal her heart. With Neve’s past seeking revenge, Brannon and Ian don’t think it is a coincidence when the past is familiar to them as well.
Neve’s backstory is heartbreaking, painful and sad. Not only has she had to deal with her also-grieving dysfunctional family but our heroine never had a support system in place when everything began to fall apart.
Ian Campbell is a man very much involved in the McKay family business but a man whose own past has many similarities to Neve McKay’s. Ian is immediately drawn to his best friend’s youngest sister but knows that the relationship may be forbidden on so many levels. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the over the top erotic imagery and text.
HEADED FOR TROUBLE has a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including the McKay siblings-Moira and Brannon, as well as their housekeeper Ella Sue. We are also introduced to local police chief Gideon Marshall who has a history with Moira McKay-the woman who still calls to his heart. There is also another storyline developing involving Brannon and Hannah-a woman he has known for a number of years but Brannon doesn’t do relationships and Hannah is about to shake up his world.
There are a number of future story lines building throughout HEADED FOR TROUBLE and in this the focus on the main story was scattered as the potential to introduce several scenarios distracted from Neve and Ian’s story.
HEADED FOR TROUBLE is a suspense filled story of intrigue and romance with heartbreak and betrayal; romance and love; tragic lives and horrific pasts. Shiloh Walker looks at a dysfunctional family whose losses are many; whose past is haunting; whose future can only get better. A wonderful introductory storyline to a new series.
Neve McKay is finally returning home after ten years. After a huge fight with her sister and brother, she left to pursue her dreams in New York. Now she's back, and while not necessarily ready to face the past and her siblings, she has no where else to turn. Just Neve's luck sexy Scotsman Ian Campbell is new(er) to town and catches Neve's eye (as she in turn catches Ian's eye), but it soon becomes apparent that the reason Neve is home has dark undertones. And she needs the love and support of a family she long thought abandoned her.
I liked the balance of romance / suspense that Shiloh Walker put into this story. Admittedly it's more on the suspense-lite side of things, but it's still there. I oftentimes find romance plot lacking slightly in these types of stories, but the romance is pretty much front and center.
Speaking of the romance, this isn't just a story about Neve and Ian. This book, and what I'm assuming will be the series, ties together each McKay: Neve, and her brother Brannon, and sister Moira. It's just as much Brannon and Moira's book as it is Neve's and I liked that they get their own page time and plot set-ups nearly as much as Neve, but not too much that anything is taken away from Neve's story.
Neve and Ian are great together. I love the way their relationship plays out. The friendship to lovers situation they find themselves in. There are bumps along the way as is the case in many relationships, but mainly these are caused by outside forces which mean there's very little angst built up within the core of Neve and Ian's budding romance, and I rather liked that. Ian makes such a great hero to our heroine. I think it's his patience and understanding that is the sexiest thing about him (apart from the accent I could hear in my head with every line of dialogue I read!).
I'd say the only downfall for me was the amount of repetitiveness over the rehashing of the past between Neve, Brannon, and Moira. I think what was slightly annoying about it was the fact that, by the end, we still only have a roundabout idea of the events that transpired on the fateful day that caused Neve to leave. If all the rehashing would have eventually led to what exactly happened I may have felt differently, but I'm thinking the moral of the situation is that the past only matters to a certain extent and the fact that Neve is home now is the most important thing. I did enjoy watching the three come together as a family. And I look forward to seeing how things continue to progress for the McKays in the rest of the series. Shiloh Walker certainly started some very interesting story threads.

Shiloh Walker has done it again. She has put the spotlight on a major issue in the world today. She has created a tremendous story with the perfect touch of romance, family drama, friendships, suspense, action and that nice touch of hot and steamy that she does so well.
I had a horrible time trying to set this book down to get anything else done. I just had to see what in the world was going to happen with Neve McKay and her family next.
Neve McKay has been through the mill and back again. This poor girl has been abused, used, deceived, threatened, and pushed to every limit possible. She's fought back to find her way home to where she fears she is not wanted. Neve is one of those characters that I found an instant connection with. I felt her fear, her pain, her mixed emotions and shed a few tears for her along the way.
Ian Campbell is the manager of the local pub. He's an Irish hunk that wears a kilt (what more could a girl ask for in a hero). He's charming, protective of those he cares about, loyal, and enjoys running the pub. When Ian and Neve meet there are instant fireworks. Put those flammable items up because these two are in serious danger of exploding at any moment. They chemistry they have together that is incredible. Ian makes Neve feels things she's never felt before. Neve makes Ian feels things he isn't sure he wanted.
Neve's brother and sister have doubts, fears, and regrets where Neve is concerned. After they learn Neve's huge secret they want to help her, protect her, and most of all show her their love. I adored the family connections and the friendships involved in this story. The characters are wonderful and well developed. The drama and suspense is so intense. There are a twist and turns that I did not see coming. A few twist left me holding my breath to see what was going to happen around the next turn.
Overall I was totally spellbound by the story and I could not put it down. If you are a Shiloh Walker fan already you are not going to want to miss this one. If you haven't had a chance to read her work yet and enjoy a deeply emotional story then grab this one now! I enjoyed Neve and Ian's story and I can not wait to see what Ms. Walker has in store for the rest of the McKay family.
I was given the opportunity to read this great story so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Headed for Trouble.
My Review: The McKay siblings are going to make a great basis for this series. In this book we got to meet the youngest who everyone knew as trouble when she left this small town at the age of 18. She wasn't really trouble; she was troubleD. When she was 8 she was in trapped in the car that killed her parents for over an hour. Serious trauma, and she was so young. But so were her big brother and sister. Brannon was 13, Moira was only 18...neither old enough to know how to take care of her and her emotional health...so she began acting out, and then she disappeared and no one has really been in contact with her in 10 years.
But those 10 years were almost as traumatic as her life at home had been because she got into an abusive relationship. She barely escaped with her life and has run home hoping to find a safe place. She finds it...with her family...and Ian, the bartender and manager at her brother's bar.
This is an absolutely fabulous book. There are a couple of twists and turns in the story line that I didn't see coming that I thought were brilliant. In the midst of Ian and Neve's fabulously hot and sexy romance, we also get great glimpses into her siblings upcoming relationships/books. I loved this story. All the characters were really well-formed, even the minor supporting characters. From the time I started the book I didn't want to put it down. Neve's ex was seriously creepy and his stalking kept me on the edge of my kindle the entire read, not knowing when he would strike.
This was simply the perfect opening book for the series. I loved it...a lot. Now I'm ready...bring on book #2, Brannon and Hannah's book...OMG!! I cannot wait!
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Headed for Trouble is centered around the McKay family. Brannon, Moira, and Neve. This is Neve's story however you'll see Brannon (Hannah) and Moira (Gideon) stories intertwine. It doesn't overshadow it but honestly to me it enhances it. Neve ran away 10 years ago and the family has been split since. What you find out is that it was not intentionally split. Neve is home now because she is running away from her past. She needs her family even though they don't want her or so she thought. There is some mystery to this story that keeps you going even though you know who is chasing Neve. She now has back up to help keep her safe, including Ian. I loved how he was with her. Understanding, loyal and protective. Just what you want in a guy. Everything was on point for me. The story, the characters. Well developed and their vulnerability just made them all the more real to me. I can't wait for the next one! I need it like yesterday!!
There is so much more to this book that I ever expected and I fell in love with everything about this book.
This is the first book in The McKays series. It follows the youngest McKay sibling Neve when she returns home to her small town she meets the very sexy Irishman Ian Campbell. Sparks immediately fly between them. But more than that Neve came home for a reason. She tried of running.
I felt for Neve. Her story was so much more than I could have ever expected. When the truth comes out as to why she left all those years ago and her since leaving her family home and her two older siblings, it will have your reeling. There is much tension between Neve and her brother Brannon and her sister Moira. But they just want to be a family again and mend the rift in their relationship. There are so many people that care about Neve and they are willing do everything to protect her, including Ian.
Ian is so amazing and hot as hell. He feels a deep connection to Neve and is willing to do anything to see where these feelings he has may lead. He tears down her shields and breaks down the barriers on her heart. He heals her in ways she didn't think possible. The romance between them was so beautiful and amazing. They are perfect for each other.
As this being my first Shiloh Walker book I have to say I love her writing. While reading this book I felt like I knew this town and its people so well. I loved that it switches to different characters pov. It made me feel like I knew each and every character as individuals, how they felt, how they into the town, and their motivations. I really loved Gideon, Hannah, Ian, and even seeing William Clydes pov. It expertly sets up the next books in the series.
I really loved this book. There is so much to love. The town and its people are so greatly detailed. You will fall in love with this small town and the McKays are so complex that I can't wait to read their books next because after reading this book, you will be dying for Brannon and Moira's love story.
I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
There were a lot of things I appreciated about this book, the first being, it was an unique take on best friends sibling. I usually can't stand these storyline because there are so many secrets and sneaking around. In this book, though, Ian was 100% upfront with Brannon about him and Neve, AND Brannon didn't make him feel guilty!! It was how most of these storylines should go! So I was very very happy about that.
I saw a lot of reviews complaining about the multiple viewpoints and stories. I actually liked that, though I wish the chapters were named with the person's name of who's viewpoint is was. I was able to figure it out, but since we're a bit harder.
I loved seeing Neve get back to her usually sassy self, and I loved for Ian was so in tune with her.
I really enjoyed this story and I'm very intrigued to see how book 2 goes!
This story focused on how an abused woman can recover with the support of her family and a new love. Neve McKay was totally isolated and then abused by her lover William, but managed to escape. He did not give up, but followed her home. When she told her family, her brother was horrified because he had known and humiliated the man while in college in England. She had been set up in order to get even with her brother.

Neve is on the run from her stalker ex, she's been abused and on the run for many years. Ian is from Scotland and falls hard for the lass. Turn out her stalker is an old enemy of his and her brother.

Another good one by Shiloh Walker. Near perfect balance of love, romance, suspense, some sex and characters to love and hate. Ready to read next book...
