Studio Trigger (Japanese: 株式会社トリガー, Hepburn: Kabushiki-gaisha Torigā, officially "Trigger Inc.") is a Japanese animation studio founded in 2011 by Hiroyuki Imaishi and Masahiko Ōtsuka.
Ryuki is on the hunt to find the owner of a giant pair of sheers. Whoever that person is... killed her father. The story was short and the illustrations were great, but some pages seemed to have way too much going on and it was jumbled together. It really didn't take away from the incredible message. Will be looking forward to Vol. 2!
The anime is one of my personal favorites and I didn’t know if I would be interested in the manga (they were both being made simultaneously). Thankfully the first volume is pretty good, but I still recommend the anime over it.
This manga adaptation of the anime, which centers on a girl who walks into a tyrannically runned town while finding her father’s killer, brings its strange but eye catching panache well. Stylish sword action with a pinch of kooky-ness. B+ (83%/Very Good)
Kill la Kill is about our main character Ryuko Matoi. Ryuko is looking for the murder of her father, but the only clue she has is the murder has the other blade of the scissor blade. In this world, clothes are a sign of power as some are imbued with a material called the life thread it gives extraordinary powers to the users. The main Characters are Ryuko Matoi, Nui Harame, Satsuki Kiryun, Senketsu, and Ragyo Kiryun. The main conflict is between humanity and life thread. The life thread is an alien material that consumes and destroys planets and Ragyo Kiryun wants to push that agenda, but Ryuko Matoi and her scissor blade plan to cut through the life thread and save humanity.
This is a great book because it’s so weird and obscure in fact nothing I have read even came close to it. This manga also shows beautiful scenes and shows emotion, all the characters have a 3d personality, unlike most manga. This manga is even better for people who are native to Japanese because most of the secrets and hidden meanings were lost in translation. Although I sing this manga praise there are still things that can be critiqued. First, like all manga Kill la kill as many others have way too much filler, In the manga in the middle of the most impactful fight, it cuts to Ryuko’s best friend eating fried croquets. This manga has a serious problem with plot development either they are pacing at godspeed or as slow as a snail, for example, in 2 pages it reveals the biggest plot developments, and the next 60 barely release any new information. Terrible but not really ending, this manga has a beautiful ending that is was so good I cried, but I felt empty knowing just the main plot was wrapped up. There is too much sexualization, some scenes are too much even for japan and that’s saying something. In the later chapters, the art style becomes more gloomy and there is no apparent reason for the shift. finally, the last 2 problems are translations and confused ideas. The author makes the best most unexpected plot twists but sometimes it changes the whole entire story. Finally, when this was translated into English they did a terrible job
I would give this series 5 stars. The demographic for this book is 15+, and people who have read a lot of manga. This is because most people who read this claim it’s bad because they compare it to the triple-A series.
I read Kill la Kill, Volume 1 because an author I enjoyed liked it. Unfortunately, it was not really my cup of tea.
The manga has an interesting premise: There is this elite high school in Japan that controls a city (possibly an entire region). Special members of this high school are awarded super-powered suits that give them superhuman skills. However, the school seems to be run by a fascist regime that also determines the economics of the surrounding areas, causing a lot of people to remain in the slums. And a new girl seems to be questioning this regime while also trying to find her father's murderer. Cool!
But there was way too much fan service for my taste to the point that I feel it took away from the storyline. And the sentient sailor uniform had me really wonder what I had stumbled into. While part of me is kind of curious where it is going, I don't think I will continue with the series.
If you are an adult reader of manga, especially in the magical girl genre, and like both lots of violence and lots of fan service, this may be the series for you.
A frenetic, kinetic, sexy, weird, and hilarious manga about a schoolgirl who possesses half of a pair of giant scissors and who is attempting to unravel the mystery surrounding the murder of her father. To do so she must ascend the ranks of high school by battling the presidents of various clubs (boxing, tennis, etc.) who possess powers granted by their uniforms. Along the way the schoolgirl, Ryuko, discovers a blood-drinking uniform that gives her powers as well. Leavened with cheesecake and humor, the story and art do occasionally pause for reflective moments as Ryuko mourns her father, but for the most part the book rushes ahead at an over-the-top breakneck pace filled with vigorous, bold drawings and sound-effects. Kill la Kill Vol. 1 is the perfect companion piece to the fabulous, funny anime from which it is derived.
I've only seen a few episodes of the anime that this is adapting (a fact that was surprising to me, since it seems from an outsider's perspective that it's usually the other way around), and while it adapts it beat-for-beat, it doesn't quite work as well. I think the speed and motion of the animation is what makes the story as fun, and adapting those frantic action scenes in static images often feels kind of messy and hard to read.
I wouldn't say it's a bad book to read, but I would definitely recommend the anime before the book.
This review will apply to all three books. I appreciate this as a fan of the original series but given that it's not a complete adaptation and in a lot of cases does less due to the removal of objective timing and beautiful animation, I can't really recommend this, especially over the original show. I have to stress that I appreciate the effort that was made here, there are some really well done translations to the page, but it's unfortunately not worth investing time and money in for it.
This really is a work that does best in animated form. I can't imagine Kill La Kill without the sound design, OST, great animation, or voice acting. A lot of the comedy and action relies heavily on the animation, so I don't think the series works nearly as well as a manga, and probably wouldn't work at all if this is your first encounter with the series. Also Satsuki looks fucking weird and I am not here for it.
(3.7/5) This was way too short - I need to find the rest of it to see what happens next! An entertaining plot, but I felt like there wasn't much characterization going on, and it was slightly disappointing how quickly the action was run through. The main character is fun though - it's nice to see an 'action' hero who can use some common sense. Overall a good time.
I watched the anime for this a couple of months ago, and I really enjoyed it. I didn’t know there was a manga based on the anime and I’m only ever going to read the first volume because the action is hard to decipher in the manga then it was executed in the anime. That is the only thing that bothers me, everything else was totally fine.
Prefer the anime to the manga. I feel that the anime brings the story to life and the jokes and attitude can easily picked up on in the anime. It is a bit of a strange story and you might have to watch the anime first before the manga (as I did) to understand what the heck is going on.
I’m a hot and cold manga reader. I either love them or hate them. Generally speaking I only like manga that’s a more serious tone and style. I hate the typical big eyes and big emotions. This falls into the hate category.
Doet me beetje denken daan die PUNCH PUNCH FOREVER animatie
oh god, i really wore this one out if you know what i mean. im thinking of getting a tattoo of that Ryuko. she's a real inspiring women. ordered the whole lot of them. EXCITEMENT!
