In need of a creative outlet, I began writing novels after my second child was born. A voracious reader of romance books and a constant dreamer of romantic plots, I was encouraged to put my ideas to paper. I soon found out I loved it...all of it!

I am a member of the Romance Writers of America and of the Georgia Romance Writers.

In addition to writing historical romance novels, I also build large HO model trains, love to do huge cross-stitching pieces, relax by boating, and decorate everything I can during the Christmas season.

Besides romance I am a heavy science fiction reader and try to read at least two books a month—one science fiction and the other romance even when I am writing. I guess I just secretly desire to live in another place in time!

Hamish was set to be leader of his clansman and marry Selah. But heartbreak has him fleeing, as the woman he was to marry loves his younger brother Robert. Hamish gives his leadership role to his younger brother as well as the woman he's to marry.

Twelve years Hamish is an elite guard for the McTiernay's. He feels like they are his family and finds purpose with them. During the years Robert has asked him to return but Hamish never did. But he is summons by his brother because there is dangers to the clan and Robert needs his help. Hamish had just been burned again by another woman who had tried to manipulate and use Hamish so he was more then ready for some time away and decides to return to his brother and clan. He was again reminded why he needed to guard his heart.

Maired, is Selah's younger sister. Maired is very much part of what is happening at Foinaven Castle and the danger that surrounds it. Maired was a young girl when Hamish left and she remembers him with fondness. But the two are in for a surprise. Hamish, doesn't notice Selah when he returns but Maired and what a beautiful, intelligent and strong woman she's become. Maired had hopes of a army returning with Hamish as that is what they will need to keep them safe. Maired is also taken aback by the man Hamish is now and the strong attraction she feels for him.

The story proceeds with miscommunication, mistrust and uncertainty of what will become of Foinaven and it's people. The premise of the story was good and strong but the delivery and relationship between the main characters was very frustrating. Yes, we need some conflict and mystery but I found it too be over the top and delivered poorly. Maired seemed childish at times and was unwilling to step forward with information. Hamish was indecisive at times and also could have communicated better with Maired as well as his brother.

The pacing was good, plot had promise. But I found the maturity and evolution of the relationship to be lacking and unsatisfactory.

This is the first I've read of the McTiernays series. I found the story and the characters interesting. The bit of a twist at the end was very subtly hinted at throughout, so it didn't come as a huge surprise. For the most part the writing was well done and the sprinkling of the Gaelic words and phrases wasn't over done. The characters do tend to say "mo chreach" (my goodness) an awful lot. Aside from that, it felt like the writing - not the story - was rushed from about midpoint to the end. There are spots which should have been caught by proofreaders/beta readers/an editor because they really stuck out and tripped me up as a reader. For example -

Approaching the middle of the book, Hamish and Mairead are bantering back and forth about trust and in the middle of Hamish's thoughts, suddenly the author (not the narrator) is speaking. To quote - "...And more terrifying was that in some ways Mairead now knew him better than anyone. I mean his friends and fellow soldiers knew the basic things...."
I mean???? That's the author talking, not Hamish thinking.

Later on, when Hamish and Mairead are trying to find Ulrick's moles among the guards left behind. Quoting - "...They were subtle techniques Hamish would have thought to look for if Mairead had not suggested it...."
This sentence, as is, makes no sense. If Hamish would have thought of looking for them, why would it matter whether Mairead suggested it or not. "...Hamish would NOT have thought..." makes it clear he didn't think of it until Mairead's suggestion.

Further on, when Mairead is arguing with herself. Quoting - "'But I did," she muttered in denial. "I had to of...I asked him not to leave and...'"
"Had to of?" Try 'Had to HAVE.' 'Had to of' is an unfortunately common mistake for contracting to have - to've - in modern speech. It's contracted when speaking, not when writing.

Further on when Hamish and Mairead are in the cottage. Quoting - "...He finally had found what he had seen been given to McTiernay brother after McTiernay brother...."
This doesn't make sense as it's written. There's an extra word in there - been.

And finally, the last one I have flagged. Hamish and Mairead are making up after arguing.
Quoting -
"..."You know," he drawled, "I didn't just learn strategies and plans from the McTiernays."
Her eyes returned his twinkle with a mischievous one of her own as her fingers ran up his leg, taking his leine with them. "They weren't?'"
I can't pull the grammar rule up at the moment, but it my mind is telling me the verbs don't match - didn't and weren't. It really pops if one reads the passage out loud, because the natural inclination/response to Hamish's statement is - you didn't - not they weren't. Or maybe it's the noun/pronoun - I didn't - they weren't. Whatever it is, reading it is awkward. It doesn't feel or sound right.

Conclusion - This was still a good story and I did enjoy reading it, however it needed a more thorough run-through by a proofreader and/or editor to catch those spots as mentioned above. There were more but I got tired of stopping to flag them and they're all from the middle to the end. This is what makes it feel like the writing was rushed although the story itself was fine.

Adding to my review - Apparently the author is under the assumption that Irish Gaelic (Gaelige) is the same as Scots Gaelic (Gaidhlig). It is not. It's similar, since they have the same foundation, but it is not the same. The 'giveaway' were the words I was unable to find in my Gaidhlig dictionaries. Searching online this morning, every one came up as Irish. If one is going to write a book about Scotland, it would be appropriate to use the correct language - Gaidhlig - Scots Gaelic. Because of this I'm amending my rating down a star. (less)

I received a copy of this e-book and am leaving an honest review.

Hamish left his family's land 12 years ago, after a planned marriage didn't work out. The bride to be was in fact in love with his brother and while he wanted his brother's happiness, he didn't feel he could stay.

He soon made another life for himself. He became a guardsman with the McTierney Clan, in fact he has become part of the family. He has had several requests from his brother to return home over the last 5 years but he has ignored them. He has once again had another request and he doesn't feel he can ignore this one. So he returns home...

When he returns home, he finds that his brother is in danger of losing all. His family's hopes are that he brought an army to save them but he hasn't.

Can he save his family's lands? Will they trust him?

Mairead is his sister in law's sister, someone who idolized him when she was a child. She is also shocked he has not brought an army and he has told her that he will indeed be doing something but she is unsure so she has decided she must see what he is up too.

There are sparks between them though. from the first time they see one another again. Hamish doesn't really believe in love after some of the experiences he has had. The more time they spend together, the more the attraction grows. Both their feelings start to change but is it love?

I really liked this book! Hamish is just a brilliant man when it came to strategizing against the enemy. Granted, he had to have different scenerios if one didn't work out but that is war....

Hamish's brother and wife were not meant to be Laird and Lady. They were very passive and wanted to save the world, they wanted no adversity all they were doing was weakening what they had with no loyalty from those taking from them. Mairead in fact did most of the real work although she never really received the recognition.

This couple will be the beginning of many a strong generation....

OMG! that had to be the most boring book I've read all year! 150 pages of:
Him - "Do you trust me?"
Her - "I trust you."
Him - "I don't believe you trust me! "
Her - "I really do trust him although I don't act like I trust him."
Her - "I must prove to him that I trust him."

That's it! Now you don't have to read the book because I gave the whole story away... :-)

What a roller coaster of emotions between Hamish MacBrieve and Mairead MacMhathain! Hamish reluctantly returns to his childhood home to help his younger brother Robert, who lies ill. Robert asks Hamish to be his Commander and against everything Hamish believes is wrong with Robert's gentle rule as laird, Hamish agrees, only because a power-hungry guard, Ulrick, threatens to topple Robert's rule. When Mairead wants to help, Hamish keeps his plan of dealing with Ulrick secret, but that's when the sparks begin to fly. Mairead is relentless in her pursuit of knowing all and Hamish is just as relentless in keeping his plan secret.

Ms. Sinclair is a very talented author and does an excellent job of slowing building the relationship between Hamish and Mairead. These two had an instant attraction, but neither would admit it. As details of the power-hungry Ulrick emerge, all the random things Hamish has been doing while at the castle start to solidify into a great strategy with the least amount of bloodshed. I really loved Hamish and while I found Mairead to be annoying at times, when her motives finally come to light, she is a strong and capable Highland lass trying to protect her sister and Robert. My only slight criticism was that the final scene between Mairead and Ulrick--it seemed a little rushed especially compared to the rest of the book. All in all, I found this to be an excellent read and fans of Scottish romances will definitely enjoy this book.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Twelve years ago Hamish left his home, his love and his birthright because it was clear the woman he loved was in love with his brother Robert. Hamish left and joined the McTiernay's elite guard and has refused to return home ever since.

Over the years his brother Robert has tried to get Hamish to return home and each time Hamish has refused. In an effort to finally cut ties with his brother, Hamish agrees to temporarily return and help his brother. Since the marriage of yet another McTiernay brother to yet another woman Hamish thought he could love, he is ready for a change of scenery. Helping his brother rid himself of his backstabbing commander Ulrick is just what he needs.

Maired is the younger sister of Selah, Robert's wife and Hamish's former betrothed. She is eager for Hamish's return and is shocked by the man who arrives....alone. Maired was expecting an army of McTiernay warriors and is dismayed that Hamish has arrived alone and has made it clear that he has no intention of involving the McTiernay's in this matter.

If Maired is shocked by Hamish, it is nothing compared to his reaction to her, she is no longer the little girl he remembered, but a fully grown beautiful, spirited woman and for the first time in months Hamish is interested, very interested. But since he has no desire to stay, he will just ignore his lust, at least that was the plan :)

As Maired and Hamish grow closer, the more the passion simmers between them and after a mind melting kiss - which of course they both agree will never be repeated, they begin to fall in love. It is apparent to the reader that these two are meant to be, but it takes them considerably longer to figure that out.

Hamish realizes that he loves Maired and he also realizes that contrary to what he thought, he has never actually been in love before. But he still refuses to act on his feelings because he doesn't plan on staying and he "knows" that Maired will not leave her family.

At times I wondered if these two would ever stop making assumptions about each other and finally talk, but the slow build up in their relationship really worked in this story. And when they finally marry, I was ecstatic! Even better, the story doesn't end there! The threat of Ulrick still has to be dealt with and Ms. Sinclair throws the reader a curve ball. I will admit, after the build up to the return of Ulrick, I thought it was kind of anticlimactic and I thought to myself - that's it, seriously? Well it wasn't! Ms. Sinclair still had a few surprises for her readers which include a visit from Conor and Laurel!

This book was well written, flowed at a really nice pace, had lots of twists and turns, sibling spats, multiple weddings, steamy love scenes, surprises galore, a soulmate type of love and a wonderful HEA.

This is the sixth book in the McTiernay's series, but I think it could be read as a stand alone title with no problem, although you would probably have a better understanding of Hamish if you at least read the prior book "Seducing the Highlander". I loved this book and would happily recommend it to anyone who enjoys a great Highlander story!

Highlander Happenings

I really enjoyed this. We have a feisty young highlander woman who takes the breath away from her silent stalwart brother-in-law, a man who vowed to never return to the place he'd once called home.
Hamish MacBrieve fled Foinaven Castle twelve years ago. He was now an elite guard with the McTiernay clan.
After years of pleas to return home from his brother Robert, Hamish has finally acquiesced.
The only problem is:
1) Hamish had once been head over heels in love with Mairead's sister Selah, who'd married Robert
2) Hamish has cleared out never to return and now only did so because his brother finally persuaded him of danger to the clan
3)Hamish was only stay ing to get the job done--his way
4) Hamish didn't want complications and falling in love with this breath taking young woman whom he use to teach to skip stones was not part of the plan!
And then there's the twist in the tail, what is troubling Mairead? And will Hamish ever trust her, for that matter will she ever trust him.
Talk about clash of wills and hearts. Minds even.
Great tale that keeps adding new surprises. Just sorry it took so long to read. Life kept interrupting! I'm now committed to reading the rest in the series!

Hamish didn't want to return home, however, his brother needed him, his clan needed him and Mairead needed him the most. Hamish didn't know at the time, that he needed them as well.

Hamish MacBrieve left his home in the Scottish Highlands because his love, Selah MacMhathain pledged her love to his brother, Robert. Hamish has been gone for twelve years and is now returning because of a threat to his clan from an estranged clan warrior. Hamish returns and finds that in twelve years, the younger sister of Selah, Mairead, is now a voluptuous, intriguing beauty. The attraction between the two is real, the problem is that it takes forever to get to the apex of the story. I really enjoyed the plot. I felt like the story got bogged down by the constant "tit for tat" game by the two main characters. I managed to get to the end of the story but felt like it was dragged out and filled with nonessential prose. I did like the story and the characters, just wish it had been more to the point.

Never Kiss a Highlander is book 6 of The McTiernays series and the first book I’ve read by this author. It appears to be an intriguing collection of stand-alone but definitely linked Highlander romances. Right off the bat, I did notice the author seems to take her sweet time spinning the tale. It just so happens I’m more of a get to the point, keep the plot riveting/flowing, and don’t overly linger or stray too far from the main couple romance, and certainly don’t be overly descriptive about nonessential things while doing so. I don’t mean to sound overly critical, because I liked the romantic storyline, but it felt overly drawn out at times. At 80%, I found myself waiting the villain to finally appear so the pace would pick up. If you relish a leisurely paced story, this likely won’t phase you a bit. There certainly was a lot of time for character development and for the couple to get to know one another.

Burned several times, Hamish, the hero, isn’t about to put his heart back into the line of fire. No, he’s sworn off love and though he isn’t the mason builder of the family, he has erected stone walls around his heart. He’ll be respectful and amicable to his one day future wife, but he doesn’t seem to think trust and love will be part of the arrangement. This is ironic since he wants Mairead, the leading lady, to trust him, but he doesn’t dish out trust readily himself.

At 50% into it, trust seems to be discussed more than love. Well into it, Hamish is still hammering on about it and is quick to jump to his feet, point the finger, and make accusations regarding Mairead’s intentions. At one point, I was truly done with him. If you like relationship angst, there is plenty here as they get close then push each other away.

Though I wanted to see them become a couple, there were times I wanted her to give up on him and walk away in search of a MacKay warrior hero to ride to her rescue. You see, it was mentioned that neighboring clan would fight to the death for what was theirs. I wanted Hamish to finally come to his senses and stop living in the land of denial.

Good news is a switch was flipped and after an accusation that got my blood boiling things started to finally look up for this hard headed couple. Hamish held out to the end though before he finally unleashed a heartfelt declaration of eternal love.

Robert, the younger brother and laird, and his wife, who were previously supposed to have married Hamish, came across as ostriches with their heads so deep in the sand I don’t know how they could breathe. It seemed all up to the main couple to save the day for the entire clan. To say they had a different strategy of running the castle/managing the clan would be an understatement.

Yes, I enjoyed this highlander romantic tale, but it did take me on a slower journey than I expected. Rating: 3.5 stars

This is the story of Hamish MacBrieve and Mairead MacMathain.

This is a story of betrayal and heartbreak. As Hamish was to marry Selah MacMathain, he discovers she loves his younger brother.
Hamish was supposed to lead the clan and marry Selah MacMathain ten years ago. Yet he finds out Selah loves his younger brother Robert. As this is the woman who was suppose to be his bride. He gives the lairdship to his brother as well as the woman he thought he loved.

Ten years later: Hamish had been working as an elite guardsman of Clan McTiernay for the past decade. Again he's been betrayed and duped by another woman. Now over the years his brother Robert had tried to reconnect, sending messages to come back. Hamish has refused, now castle Foinaven is in danger and needs his help. The danger surrounds Selah’s younger sister Mairead.

Mairead had idolized Hamish as a little girl and thinks he will be her savior. Yet when he returns with only himself and no army it is sheer disappointment.

When Hamish returns after such a long absence - he doesn't even notice Selah. He only has eyes for her younger sister Mairead, who was only a child last time he saw her. Mairead is also quite smitten with the handsome Hamish. Can she break through his cold untrusting heart. Will he realize the danger she's in and lend a helping hand? Will he open his heart or has heartbreak and betrayal gotten the best of him?

This is a must read. In book six of The McTiernay series by Michele Sinclair . I highly recommend it as I have read the others always a sheer joy to read. You can read “Never Kiss A Highlander”as a stand alone book or in book order. I absolutely loved it!

I've read the earlier books in this series, and liked most of them, but this one just didn't do it for me. My rating is 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 stars.

First, it was just too long and drawn out. There was so much about Hamish's plans to defeat the bad guy. Because he was so secretive, though, very little actual information about those plans was provided until they were actually enacted. Why spend all that time with his plans, but never reveal them? That was just frustrating.

Second, I didn't really like either Hamish or Mairead. Hamish was incredibly arrogant, treated women as if the only thing they were good for was flirtation, and so ridiculously stubborn. Mairead was conniving, annoying, and also incredibly stubborn. I guess they deserved each other, but I really didn't care if they found their HEA.

I also didn't like the supporting characters of Mairead's sister and Hamish's brother. They were both annoying and totally incompetent as leaders -- and neither one of them was willing to even consider that their way was not the best way, or that it didn't work. I have no problem with pacifists. I actually prefer non-violent, non-confrontational leadership, when it works. But their refusal to even consider that passive, non-confrontational behavior might not be the only solution was just ridiculous.

I probably won't read the rest in this series, because I am tired of unlikable characters. From the reviews, it sounds like both of the next two books have very irritating heroes. It also sounds like at least one of the heroines is annoying, too. And since the reviews state that the next book ends in a huge cliffhanger, I want no part of that -- I absolutely HATE cliffhanger endings.

I really liked "Never Kiss a Highlander" by Michele Sinclair, it's a solid 4-star read. Hamish has lived with the McTiernays for 12 years, since he left his home and gave up possible lairdship for his younger brother to marry the woman he was supposed to marry. Hamish's brother, Robert, has asked him to come home over the years, but Hamish never had any desire to return until this latest missive came. Robert needs help outing his current commander, Ulrick, and asks for Hamish's help.
Mairead is Robert's sister-in-law, her older sister, Selah, was supposed to marry Hamish and instead fell in love with Robert. Mairead has been threatened by Ulrick that he will kill her family and take over lairdship when he returns with bloodthirsty mercenaries. Mairead is determined to wed one of the McTiernay soldiers Hamish is sure to bring with him to defend her home.
But Mairead is in for an unhappy surprise, no soldiers, just Hamish himself. Mairead was only 10 when Hamish left, hasn't forgotten him, but really isn't impressed with his one-man show. Hamish refuses to tell her his plan to oust Ulrick and Mairead refuses to trust him that he can get the job done.
There is passion between the two characters, but some of their arguments were too drawn out and honestly made this reader tired. The middle of the book kind of dragged for me. Mairead arguing with Hamish, kissing, more arguments, kissing, and distrust - which really upset Hamish. A lot of back and forth.
It also took them a long time to declare their feelings and finally get together. I really did enjoy the book, there were some semi-steamy love scenes, but the characters could have been a bit more likable.

This is my first book to have read by this author and even though this story is part of a series it can be read as a standalone, it gives you a glimpse at some of the characters from the previous books and it was a very easy story to read and get involved in.
Hamish MacBrieve is a wonderful character, he is smart, sexy and easy to like and fall a little in love with. He has a deep and caring side and is always loyal to his friends and family alike. Mairead MacMathain is a headstrong young woman and medler but she is also clever and intuitive. She helps to run Foinaven Castle where her older sister's husband Robert Macbrieve is Laird.
Hamish and Mairead's characters have a great chemistry and fire going on between them throughout the story and it's exciting to see the inferno that finally explodes once they give into the inevitable. My only problem with the story is that Mairead was at first interesting to read about as she tries to find out about Hamish's plans to save them all from Ulrick but as the story moves on she became a little whiney and irritating and started to get on my nerves, but having said that she is still a strong character that grows and changes with the story.
This book has a great plot that was exciting to read and I found that it was very well written, it has plenty of action to keep you interested and you find yourself becoming invested in wanting to see where the paths laid before the characters will lead them. Any fan of historical romance that likes Highlanders will love this.
I really enjoyed this story and give it 4 Stars.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

This is the first book that I have read so I am intrigued by the McTiernays and will have to go to the first book in the series! Wow, poor Hamish keeps seeing the McTiernay brothers get the girl and he keeps losing out in his quest for love, and pretty much at this point decides that he isn't going to find a woman to love.

There were quite a few twists in the story that really kept me reading when I should have gone to bed! At first, I just wished that Hamish's brother, Robert had talked to him but then could understand that Hamish had to work through this and come to his own conclusions about his life and goals.

It was great to see when Hamish was looking at Mairead and thinking she was similar to the McTiernay's brides and how she would fit in with the family. I liked reading their story as they grew to love each other and yet did not want to see that fact!

This book was a mix of romance, drama, and lots of action! It was hard to put it down and really kept me involved in the story. I enjoy when there is a little more to a story than just a romance.

Loved the ending and how it all worked out, a secret was revealed that helped Hamish understand why he felt so different from his brother, and the wedding for Conan! That sounds like a book that I want to read - after hearing how he is so dismissive to women - what will his bride be like??

This was an exciting read for all those who enjoy highland romance. The author has written a lovely book with lots of unforgettable characters. Even though this one could be considered a continuation of previous books, it can be read as a stand alone.
I thought Hamish MacBrieve a handsome, well developed person who was his own man. Even though he left his clan years earlier because of family matters. Now Hamish has finally decided to return home to see his brother who is Laird. Even though his brother is younger, Hamish feels like once things are taken care of, he will return to his previous life.
Mairead is the sister in law of Hamish's brother the Laird. She is very talented in running the estate while being a help to her sister, sometimes she wants her own place. A previous suitor who has taken it on himself to make sure that Mairead will wed him or else. She is glad for Hamish being there, but he doesn't let his secrets out to her.
I felt she was a bit stubborn towards wanting to know everything on Hamish's mind. I didn't like her at first, but she did get a bit better towards the end. I believe that these two people really love each other, but they had to go though a lot of stuff to have a happy ever after.
I appreciate Net Galley for this ARC title in which I gave an honest review.

I was given an ARC for an honest review by NetGalley.

Having read the other books in this series I was anxiously waiting for the this one and wasn't disappointed.

Hamish left home to work for the McTiernay's, having pretty much given up his rights to the family lairdship to his brother. Over the course of time, he receives a lot of missives to come home but it takes his brother needing his help getting rid of a troublesome commander, who wants

Mairead is the sister in law of his brother Robert. She has been threatened by Ulrick, the troublesome commander, with the death of her family. Mairead is expecting Hamish to come back with soldiers to help protect the land.

Hamish and Mairead's road to HEA is not an easy one. She expects him to show up with soldiers to protect them all and win the battle with Ulrick. When he shows up alone, she's less than happy or confident that they will succeed.

I loved this book, I couldn't go to bed until I finished it. There are many twists and a secret throughout the tale that kept me reading it into the wee hours of the morning. Having read all the other books, I was always hoping that Hamish would finally get a girl of his own. He's one of those characters that I just loved as a secondary and couldn't wait to see him be the hero, find his HEA. Loved this one and find myself waiting for the next one!

I really enjoy Highland Romances and although I have a few "go to" authors I am beyond grateful that I was able to receive an ARC for Never Kiss a Highlander. I am not ashamed to say that with out NetGalley I probably would have skipped over this title simply because I am not familiar with the author. I can honestly say that I would have been extremely sorry if I had never picked up this title. Although there are many elements that are the same with almost every Highland Romance it was an amazing read and worth every second. I really enjoy when a Historical Romance of any kind features a spitfire for a woman instead of someone who is timid and meek. The imagery and the flow of the novel was well brought together and you can really immerse yourself in every detail. However, there were times when it became a little cliche before picking back up again. Be fore warned even though there are some minor slow ebbs to the overall plot this book is VERY addicting. VERY! The only down side I really found was in the creation of the Highland men. Although the women received a lot of detail and their personalities really shown through, it seemed like the men were kind of an after thought and not given as much notice.

Elite McTiernay guardsman Hamish MacBrieve left his clan 12 years ago, he stepped aside so his brother Robert could marry the woman he loved and become the Laird of their Clan when their father passed away. Now Robert has sent yet another messenger to call Hamish home, but this message he can’t ignore; he needs to return temporarily to help his brother and his Clan. Mairead MacMathain learns that the eldest MacBrieve is returning to his childhood home to help. She’s always had a crush on him and she hopes to convince him to a help Robert to get rid of his power-hungry guard, Ulrick, who threatens to topple Robert's rule. Hamish is too hard for a girl to resist he’s everything Mairead could dream of since she was a little girl. Now he returns and he’s nothing at all as she remember, yet the sparks fly when his heated gaze meets Mairead’s these two definitely have a sizzling chemistry between them. A captivating story to draw the reader in and keep your attention throughout. I voluntarily read this from EBook from Net Galley and this is my honest review and opinion.

I got this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
First of all I haven’t read the other books of this series (but I added them to my never ending TBR list afterwards) but I had no problem with the storyline. People from books before are mentioned but you don’t need to read them previously – everything seems logical.
After watching too much “Outlander” over the months I got more and more into Highlander novels (yes, Jamie!) and I really, really enjoyed reading this one because the storyline was extraordinary and witty. +
The female lead Mairead (I always misspell the name) isn’t the typical highland lass – she’s taller, more headstrong and all that especially compared to her sister, who years ago was engaged to the male lead Hamish – the late laird’s oldest son. Well, to cut it short, things didn’t work out the easy way and Hamish left, but he could ever forget the girl. Back in the day Mairead was only a kid of 8 years. He never wanted to come back but you can only ignore so many letters of your own brother that he packs his things and wants to move to his former clan for a short period to help his brother, the laird, to help him deal with some problems …

It’s a love story but it also a story of character development. Hamish is a typical Highlander – lots of muscles but with a soft side. You can really imagine him with his kilt in front of you. (yay!)

Michele Sinclair has written an intriguing world of honor, second chances, and Highlander intrigue. Never Kiss A Highlander is book #6 in The McTiernys’ saga.
This would be my first book and title by Michele Sinclair. I didn’t know this was part of a series. So, these books can be read as a stand-alone to the rest of the titles.
This book was slow in some places but really picked up its paces towards the end. The chemistry between Hamish and Mairead was okay. I will chalk this story up as a feel-good story with a twist of intrigue to make it interesting.
But if you’re a big fan of highlander romance, this would be one for your shelves.

Positives: The storyline was interesting, and not only focused on the romance. The romance itself was good. It built slowly and wasn't rushed. Both the main characters were likeable and well developed, especially for a book of this genre.

Negative: The other characters were weak. There wasn't all that much to them. The villain had no motivations and no backstory there was no threat because he was mostly absent. The real problem was that this book is far too long and far too detailed. The characters and background were good but everything else was drawn out. This book should have ended three or four times, but every time the book came to a natural end the author dragged it out.

I shouldn't have read this book.

I don't like Scottish romances. I generally have a hard time with romance set before the 1800s, and Scottish romances are some of the worst.

This is also the middle book in a series, it sounds like, and I had no emotional attachment to the characters. In fact, I actively disliked them. The entire cast of characters were manipulative and deceitful, and none of them really won me over. The writing was also not great for me. This isn't my cup of tea, and I'm probably not going to revisit the Scottish Highlander flavor of romance novel again.

This book would have greatly benefitted from an editor. I'm not sure what happened, but the story is way too long and disjointed. The first three pages are about characters from a previous book and at first I thought the description was wrong. Then its 42 pages before we meet the heroine. The first 200 pages were a slog. The story is OK but with a little editing could have been great. There are times I can't figure out who is speaking and who the story is really about! This was the first book of hers I've read but if the rest are like this I won't push on the way I did with this one.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review. Loved the story of Mairead and Hamish; it is well written and keeps your interest. Their love story is only one part of the story, along with danger and threats from an outside source. Hamish, a seasoned warrior is also a strategist who had many issues/dangers that need to be handled. I highly recommend this book.

I received a free arc in exchange for an honest review. I have tried to read this three times and finally gave up at 40%. It's just not interesting and the characters have no chemistry. I read the prior books and even liked some, this story just couldn't keep my interest. I love a Highlander story, but not this one.

Another awesome read about Hamish and the McTiernay Clan. After 12 years Hamish is finally going home to assist his brother with a possible attack. Hamish left all those years ago because his brother fell in love with Hamish’s intended. But he never thought he would come home and find love. You have treachery, secrets, danger, passion and loved all wrapped up in another awesome book!
