Then Holly meets a tall, dark, handsome stranger and her world is changed forever. What secret is he hiding? And why is he so interested in someone like her? As she is tempted further into Jacob’s dark world, what horrors await her?
This was an ok read. Holly is in an abusive relationship and although she pretends to the outside world that she is happy, she is scared of Curt. The escalation of violence in their relationship is out of control but she wants to be loved so she stays with him. When she meets tall dark and handsome Jacob she falls fast but he is hiding something. I had a few issues with this book first I felt that Holly was too weak for me she would rather stay with someone who is abusing her than be by herself why? I get that in the real world it's not easy to leave an abuser and than how fast she fell for Jacob. I also felt like there was somethings missing in the story. Also their was some problems with editing. This was book one in this series and I am looking forward to reading the next book.
Remove the irrelevant information and you would have a good short story. Add in more elaboration on a lot of parts and you would have a decent novel. The potential is there, but the execution is not. The wrong parts were dragged out and the important parts were rushed. Makes it difficult to justify even 2 stars.
So Holly is in an abusive relationship , then this tall dark stranger saves her fromt he taunts of some bullies .... low and behold she is suddenly pretty much obsessed with him , in no time at all ( or it could be , who knows? the time flow in the book is extremely lacking ) tall , dark and handsome has stalked her , shes had a little panic attack , ran off to find the abusive fella. Said fella then decideds to batter her , cue tall dark and handsome saving the day , net thing i know , abusive douche is gone outta the window and shes all over tall dark and handsome??? now .... So many mixed emotions about the book , it could have been brilliant , the general idea behind it seems to ok , but it really could have been better , for me i read it in a few hours , its easy , it plods along , not much to really wonder about , its obvious from the start what would happen , and the cliffhanger ... well i cant even call it a cliff hanger .... as once again it was obvious. I may read the next book .... just to fill a few hours of boredom , but not because i care ... i found the characters lacking in substance , likeability and just plain old common sense
This book is a short story with a cliffhanger ending. It is based on a bbw with huge insecurities and bad body image. I spent much of the reading time aggravated by this woman who allowed a poor excuse for a man to abuse and denigrate her. She put up with his abuse and kept believing that it was all her fault and if she could just be better (slimmer, nicer, etc) he would love her. Then along comes her hero who protects and cares for her, but is shy?? At the end it's obvious he's going wolf but we don't know what happens. The book needs editing help and I don't know that I want to read more about a woman who puts up with abuse.
Another short story. I'm not usually into shape shifters (okay, werewolves) but this has me hooked. I was surprised when reading some of the other reviews that disparaged Holly's neediness and self-deprecation. Her behavior is consistent with someone who has suffered emotional and physical abuse for years. I do agree that the author tends to linger too long 'inside her head' as evidenced by her thoughts when recuperating at his home, but other than that an excellent quick read.
I'm not sure where the author is going with this. A bullied big girl, a family that makes fun of her and a boyfriend that beats her. Then she meets the man of her dreams and he's a werewolf. Maybe not such a good thing. It leaves you hanging and wondering. I gave it three stars because it was good in some places.
