After many years trudging through the social awkwardness of high school and the whirl wind of college romances I finally landed in the Seattle area writing about the hell, horror, and don't forget the hot romance of youth. I love all things outdoors and can be found hiking, kayaking, mountain biking or doing anything that will work up a good sweat *winks*. I love to interact with my readers and meet them at signings.

Never believing he deserved more, Quill goes through life taking what he can and avoiding any meaningful relationships. Until he gets a job at a local guitar shop and discovers a talent for making music. Soon Quill meets Assad, a broody bass player who lives by the motto “love has no boundaries”. Struggling with nightmares of an abusive past and where exactly his heart lies, Quill has to decide how far he’s willing to go to find love.

I dont usually copy the blurb, but I couldn't word it any better and still say it and hold it true, so, I did here. Don't let the title of this book fool into some peace, because there really isn't any, not for Quill, Assad, or Quill's sister Ren.

Quill is using drugs, alcohol and sex to get over some horrific childhood abuse, but refusing to talk to anyone. He lands a job at a music store and is finally getting somehwere. Asaad plays in a band he saw and is totally smitten with Quill. But Quill wont allow himself to be loved. Assad pushes and Quill pushes back, until they both snap.

What stands out for me, is how painful this book is to read. The abuse that both Quill and Ren suffered as children and how that follows them into adulthood, and how they suffer now, and how they both deal with it is shocking. Extremely well written, I cannot fault that. I really can't.

From what I can see, this is book two. Book one, Serenity, is Ren's story. But she is by no means happy in this book, which leads me to think, and hope, that there will be more from this pair. I really do need to see them both happy, but I can see that it will be a long hard road they walk to get there.

I would like to say, there should be a warning on the blurb. An over 18 one at least. The subject matter is dark, and rip you apart. Drug/alcohol/sex abuse and self harming are all prevelent and some readers may find this is too much for them. Book one is biiled as upper young adult, I can't in all honesty, say that this is any sort of Young Adult book, I really can't.

5 stars.

Review of Tranquility (Serenity #2) by Ava O’Shay

Review done for Hooked on Books

5 out of 5 stars

I wasn’t sure what to expect of this book when I first started reading it. I thought wow, this young man has a lot of anger issues and he is just another womanizing, man-whore. Once I got through the first two chapters, he definitely had my attention.

Quill is tormented by his abusive past. Sexually assaulted by his mother’s friends as well as her boyfriends, Quill is full of confusion and hate. He doesn’t know how to get through life without booze, drugs, and easy women.

When Quill is out at the bar one night, he becomes intrigued with the lead singer of the band that is playing. She is beautiful but he doesn’t deserve to be with someone like that. He tries to talk to her but she shuts him down right away. He is shocked but is even more shocked when he sets his eyes on the bass player. He isn’t sure whether it is a man or woman, but what is scarier is that he is more attracted to this person.

Quill discovers that the bass player is actually a guy named Assad. Quill immediately tries to turn his feelings off because he wants to want women not men. No matter how hard he tries, Quill cannot deny what Assad does to him. He has never felt the emotion of physical contact until now.

Assad is a psych major, so he should know not to get involved with Quill. He sees all the signs of his tormented past and doesn’t know how to help him; not that Quill will let him any ways.

My heart broke for Quill and his sister Ren. They both suffered so much in their young lives. I loved watching Quill learn feelings and being loved. He really deserved it.

This story was great. The author did a wonderful job telling the story of a young man learning to accept that he is gay and that there is nothing wrong with that. I really liked how accepting and supportive his new friends were, especially Assad. They all seemed to have some issues to deal with but they worked really well together.

I definitely recommend this book for readers who enjoy M/M love stories. I can’t wait for book 3!

I don't think that I have read anything quite like this before and I'm really glad that I decided to give it a try. Quill is the main character and he tries to avoid love because of everything that he has gone through in his past. His past has been very painful and he was abused, so it's no wonder he is looking to not get hurt once again. Quill starts working at a local guitar shop and realizes how much he loves music. His love of music brings him to meet Assad who is the man of his dreams. I loved their sweet love story and found that it was written in a beautiful way. This is a novel that you will not want to miss and I would recommend downloading it!

Definitely not what I normally pick up to read, but it was a very enjoyable one, and I did not regret picking this book up. It's a romance story, but not cheesy or cliched. In fact, I'd probably say that it's a bit darker than what you'd typically see in the genre. It starts off with a troubled man--Quill--who has a bad past and sleeps around. And when he meets Assad, the story takes off--self discovery, love, sexuality... this book has a lot of depth, and I felt that the characters and plot were all very nicely developed. An enjoyable read.
