A Joyfully Jay review.

3.25 stars

The Prince of Hollow Desires is a fantasy friends-to-lovers story from author Jordan Ko. It is the second installment in The Demon Reflected series, but works well enough as a standalone insofar as Ixthan and Eric’s relationship is concerned. The world building, on the other hand, felt like it got more opaque the longer I read. Social elements like whether or not same-sex relationships were legal or tolerated or something else, the status of demons in the world generally, and what/how/why there was magic were all central to certain storylines, but only sparingly described in this book. It wasn’t a complete impediment to enjoying the book, but it did feel like the stakes in Eric’s feelings for Ixthan were missing some gravitas.

I may not have been completely sold on Eric and Ixthan’s dynamic, but I at least enjoyed the tension that came from all the sex (and no communication) Eric and Ixthan had. It was an interesting take on opposites attract.

I love fantasy romances and the fact that it is also historical!! I was so excited to get started after finishing Lord of Whispered Shadows.

These two were ultimate idiots in love honestly and I was here for it. Watching these two come to the realization of being in love with each other was great. What I did not expect was the amount of emotions I felt while reading. Jordan hit every single one of them, some of them multiple times. Especially how Ix and Eric were affected by Ix’s magic going wrong. It was so interesting to see Eric’s POV during this because when something that has brought you comfort changes, it can be so hard to manage. I loved how nobody questioned things between them and it was so funny when Ix mentioned that they probably assumed they had been together for years. Poor Eric probably didn’t even realize that was a possibility.

I cannot wait to see what Jordan releases next! I’m hoping Ceronzar gets his HEA next???

Prince of Hollow Desire is an MM fantasy romance filled with longing, misunderstanding, and emotional tension that slowly builds beneath years of shared history. One of the strongest dynamics in the story is Eric’s complete inability to realize that he is far less subtle than he believes. He convinces himself he’s carefully hiding his feelings for Ixthan, while also assuming that Ixthan only tolerates his presence because they were bound together as children rather than by choice. That insecurity adds a constant ache to Eric’s perspective and makes every interaction feel layered with unspoken emotion.

Ixthan, meanwhile, is fascinating in his contradictions. His arrogance is impossible to ignore, but it’s tied to an intense passion and pride for his people and their traditions. He carries himself with certainty and strength, making him seem distant at times, yet that fierce devotion gives his character depth beyond the sharp edges. The push and pull between Eric’s quiet yearning and Ixthan’s proud intensity creates a romance full of tension and emotional payoff.

ARC review 3.5/5 ⭐

Thank you Jordan Ko for the eARC of Prince of Hollow Desires, the sequel to Lord of Whispered Shadows.

In this sequel we follow Eric, who's father recently has turned traitor against the king and therefor left Eric in-charge of dealing with the fallout, to make things more awkward Eric is childhood friend (and also hopelessly in love) with the Demon Prince Ixthan. Ixthan who offers Eric to stay at the palace while he deals with everything, and then due to his own actions Ixthan loses his demonic powers and now has to deal with being human. Eric has learnt how to manage the "cold demonic" Ixthan and now suddenly is struck with the very human, very emotionally charged Ixthan.

The start of the book made me feel like I had missed something important, I felt like I was thrown into a mess that I was meant to have knowledge about. I can't honestly remember if Eric's father turning traitor was mentioned in the first book, if it was then it fully slipped from my memory. But after adjusting to that I was all on-board again!

I very much enjoyed the teasing and taunting relationship between Eric and Ixthan, although I did feel like they got physical kind of quick? Even if Eric has had feelings for Ixthan for a long time, it did feel like it went 180* suddenly. Lydia's letter really was a catalyst for Eric to get his man! The more I read though I did realise that the reason why it felt like this was also because Eric is so dense. Don't get me wrong, Eric is only selectively dense when it comes to Ixthan and the possibility of Ixthan returning his feelings. It was peak "you're flirting with me? I have been for years, thanks for noticing". It was so amusing!

The story still flows very well and it's easy to follow, I only do feel like it missed something that the first book had. It may be because the book read like a sick!fic and that is not what I was prepared for. I did very much enjoy the book and the spice was I think just the right side of kinky alongside the friends to lovers. Ixthan being unwell is a huge part of the story, just as much as Eric taking care of him as Ixthan taking care of Eric and supporting him in his own way with the fallout of his father.

The character that caught my biggest attention was Prince Ixthan's older brother, Ceronzar, so I am really hoping there'll be a third book with him! Maybe with Brother Ramsay. Because... you know 👀

So first off, I thought the banter between Ix and Eric was cute. I love a good childhood friends to lovers story, and this was no exception. While I don't think any especially new ground is being tread here (other than one of the friends being a demon...) I think it was still satisfying as someone who loves the trope!

The explicit scenes seemed fairly well spread out and mostly made sense; there was I think one where it felt a bit abrupt, almost like "oh it's time for another explicit scene!" but honestly I don't even remember when I thought that so it must not have been that big of a deal.

The general narrative pacing was good and there is an overarching plot with an actual problem to solve, but generally, it's not an end of the world scenario and I'd call it fairly low stakes. In between the spicy bits, I was mostly just curious as to how it would resolve, but not on the edge of my seat.

I do feel like reading the previous book is highly recommended, as once Archie and Damaris come into the story, you do really need that context of why they would make a deal with Prince Jasper at all.

One thing I didn't like was how the execution scene took me out of it a little bit. It wasn't grotesquely detailed, but more than I'd imagined it would be, but I didn't feel like it paid off, either.

Since this is an ARC there were some typos and grammatical errors, but those were more of the "oops" variety, rather than not knowing how to employ vocabulary and grammar, so I think with a good editing pass, the technical aspect will be just fine.

I also think this book really improved on some of the problems I had with the first one -- which I liked, don't get me wrong! I think it was a little easier to understand the timeline, and that the explicit parts felt more whole.

This is a great book if you want a cozy, sexy read with Regency-adjacent demon shenanigans! I'll be on the look out for the next books... and hoping we get to see more of Archie and Damaris again. Sorry Ix, sorry Eric, you're great but I just love those two so much!! I'd love to see more of Petra, too!

Thank you to the author for kindly giving me an ARC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a really fun and sweet mm romance. I really liked both Eric and Ixthan; their dynamic felt really authentic to two people who had been friends since childhood and developed romantic feelings for one another. They flipped between wholesome and chaotic in a way that felt really true to the characters. The writing was really good and all the characters had a lot of dimension and personality. This was a really lighthearted read, surprisingly so considering Eric's dad is found guilty of treason and publically executed, and Ixthan is a powerful half-demon with a very scary mother.

I really liked how conflicted Eric felt about the loss of his father. When he said that now his father was gone, the opportunity for his father to become a better person was gone as well, and that's what upset him the most, that really struck a chord with me. I thought it was a really insightful and considerate perspective of grief that I hadn't really considered before. It was a cool detail that I really appreciated.

I also really liked that we saw a rare moment of vulnerability from Ixthan when he got his magic back and with it, his demon features. He was genuinely concerned that Eric wouldn't want to be with him anymore and that Eric was in love with him despite his demonic features, not inclusive of them. For a character who was extremely self-assured for most of the book, I really liked that glimpse into vulnerability. It made me like him all the more.

I hadn't read the previous book in the series prior to requesting an ARC of this one, but it definitely can be read standalone. I think maybe the previous book would've allowed the reader to be more familiar with the characters, but everything made sense without reading it, and I didn't struggle to follow along with the narrative.

First of all, thank you so much to Jordan Ko for the ARC of Price of Hollow Desires! This ended up being such a fun and engaging read, and I honestly had a really good time with it from beginning to end.

One of my favorite things about this book was definitely Ixthan. His dry sense of humor absolutely worked for me, and I loved how he could be so dramatic and diva-like while simultaneously having almost no understanding of human emotions or social norms. That contrast made so many of his interactions entertaining, and he brought a lot of personality to the story. At the same time, Eric was basically the emotional opposite — a complete sweetheart and an actual cinnamon roll who deserves nothing but love and protection at all times. Their dynamic was really enjoyable to follow, and I found myself getting attached to both of them pretty quickly.

Plot-wise, I appreciated that the story was easy to follow without feeling too simple or boring. Sometimes fantasy/paranormal stories can become overly complicated with lore dumps and convoluted worldbuilding, but this book kept things accessible while still maintaining enough intrigue to keep me invested. The whole storyline surrounding Ix losing his powers especially kept me curious, and I liked slowly uncovering more about what was happening. The pacing made it easy to stay engaged, and I never felt overwhelmed trying to keep track of everything.

I also have to say… I absolutely need to know more about Ix’s brother and Ramsey because there was definitely enough there to make me very curious 👀

Overall, this wasn’t necessarily a super emotionally heavy or challenging read, but it was incredibly enjoyable and exactly the kind of story that’s easy to get pulled into. It had humor, entertaining characters, good chemistry, and enough mystery to keep the pages turning. If you’re looking for something fun, engaging, and character-driven, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a try. Solid 4 stars from me!

okay, whoa, so i enjoyed this a lot more than i expected! book 2 of this series was more plot-driven compared to the first book and adds to the worldbuilding that was introduced previously. the added information on demons & magic were v interesting, and i'm actually looking forward to another installment if there ever will be one

i have to admit i only vaguely remember the details of the previous book, but i did write in my review for it that i might prefer damaris' over ixthan. that might not be so true anymore as i found ixthan charming and honestly? pretty funny. i quite liked how he was characterized as a half-demon prince. his dynamic with eric was also similarly delightful. thought their relationship changed drastically pretty much immediately (might be a point of contention for some), i wasn't too bothered by it. them already having an established friendship helped make the transition feel smoother, imo. their relationship had all these little details that made it seem more solid & real.

eric was a lovely character, and i think i like him more than archie (from what i can remember about him). his narration was fun and immersed me into the story. besides his friendship-turned-romance with ixthan, his relationship with petra was another bright spot in the novel. i liked how she wasn't treated as some prop and actually had something going on in the background. honestly this entire novel was just really competently written. nothing groundbreaking but well-done, regardless. the typos i spotted just needs to be fixed before the book is officially released & we're all good. there were a fair number of them scattered throughout the novel.

i hope i'm not delusional in thinking the potential third book to be focused on ceran & ramsey... i want to see more of them, please.

thanks to booksirens and the publisher for providing this e-arc :) this review contains my honest thoughts on the novel.

My latest read was Prince of Hollow Desires by Jordan Ko. I was fortunate enough to be given an ARC of this book, but this review is given voluntarily.

After Eric’s father, an Earl, is executed for being a traitor to the crown, Eric inherits not only the title of Earl of Marrawshire, but the enormous debt his father left behind as well. Eric then depends on his lifelong friend, half-demon, Prince Ixthan, who helps him navigate through his troubles in more ways than one. Meanwhile, a spell-gone-wrong makes Ixthan lose his magic. So while Ixthan is helping Eric with his affairs of his newly acquired Earldom, Eric is in turn helping Ixthan regain the magic he lost. And as for their friendship, it becomes more than that, much, much more.

I really, really wanted to like this book. It’s the kind of genre I tend to gravitate to, so I was really looking forward to reading it. But for some reason, that I still can’t figure out, I was just not able to fully connect with it. The characters seemed developed enough to add interest to the story, but the storyline itself was a bit lacking for me, not strong enough to hold my attention. And I didn’t really care for the kink involved in Eric and Ixthan’s sexcapades, mainly the control and pain aspects of it, being a slight turn off for me. It just wasn’t my taste.

After the epilogue, there are ARC Notes that mention this was an “unproofread advanced copy”, which explains the number of errors that sometimes took me out of the story. Even though this is mentioned at the end of the book, I did not take those errors into account when rating this book. (In my experience with ARC’s, they’ve already gone through the editing process and are just issued to get readers’ views of the story itself.) That said, I give this book a 7 out of 10, adjusted to a 4 out of 5 for a 1-5 rating scale.

I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Ooooh Prince of Hollow Desires was my first Jordan Ko but this will absolutely not be my last! I loved the narrative style, which reminded me a bit of Cohen's Dark Earls series, just with a touch brighter worldbuilding. So the overall historical f e e l of the storytelling was a delightful, comfortable one for me.

I especially loved the hot chemistry between Ix and Eric, who took their friendship to a very sexy level when the prince's magic went awry…and then took THAT scrumptiousness to a SUPERnatural one when Ix eventually got his powers back 😏

And Eric's story, beyond the romance, was a pretty intense, tragic whirlwind tbh. I felt for him as he moved through the fog of his trauma, after attending his treasonous father's public execution. Then there was the Earldom he'd inherited that he was unprepared for, and ofc the debt his father had incurred for his nefarious purposes, which was left for Eric to deal with after his death. It was a gruesome event that would mess anyone up, and I appreciated Ko's sensitive approach to Eric's grief and the relatable ways his overwhelm manifested throughout the book.

Ix's plot was a much lighter affair, with his otherworldly regal nature having to endure a period of time as a banal version of himself and finding it wanting…save for the moments got sexy with Eric. I did like them for each other though. I will always get behind a rich Prince doing the most to ease his man's burdens any way he can.

Prince of Hollow Desires was wonderful and I had a really great time! I'm very excited for Master of Gilded Tongues up next, and hopefully I'll get the chance to read Book 1 before then, just to see how Lord of Whispered Shadows got this awesome series started! Can't wait!

What a fun book!

Eric inherits his Earldom with a lot of debt so he's now living with his best friend and half-demon, Prince Ixthan. However, Ixthan lost his demonic magic in an experiement and now they have to work together to return his magic.

I wished this was dual POV because what I would give to be in Ixthan's mind. The way he works, his quirks, and his thoughts being a 'unique' demon would've been great to read.

This is book 2 so I came in with an open mind and it was so refreshing to read a book set in a regency era with queer representation and fantasy elements. Very easy to read which I love, and the world-building is easy to follow along. Not much elaborate or confusing world.

Eric was so adorable and very interesting to read. He's juggling with a lot of things, from the betrayal of his father, inheriting all of the problems that comes with being an Earl, dealing with grief, taking care of his sister and best friend, all are tackled within this book.

He was so bashful, endearing and loyal to a fault but I liked those qualities.

The banter between the characters were good. There's a bit of yearning and romance sprinkled in but they are honestly the definition of idiots best friends to lovers trope. It was so cute.

There's this one aspect that I don't like in books and that's when they do physical stuff before dealing with the emotional ones. I did look the other way here, considering they are best friends from childhood and literally grew up together. Some might say they are codependent, but I don't care. I wished we saw more tension between them.

I did enjoy the book and I love my reading experience with it. Now I kinda want to read book 1 in the series, and hopefully we get to see Ceronzar's book because he was a delight.

My review
🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕
Yes, I am giving extra stars because this is just so cute! Seriously cute! Adorably cute! Ix is really funny and cute, and Eric is a cinnamon roll. I loved them! They are so cute! Yes, I have said the word cute repeatedly, but I have no other words to explain how profoundly cute this book is. I love their mutual obsession with each other’s hair, it is truly adorable." “Your hair is delightful” Ix flicked another curl. “Says the man with the most enviable hari in the kingdom” muttered Eric.” I loved Eric’s confusion, and how hard he tries to be someone else, tries to “ignore the gay away”, and it is a very good thing Ix is around, or they would be miserable. I loved how the story develops, Ix and Eric’s romantic relationship is really well paced, and having so many obstacles around them, with Ix losing his magic, and Eric dealing with his father’s downfall, it would seem like getting together would be the last thing on their minds, but it is the best development for both of them. Ixthan is absolutely fantastic, so kind and accepting, but also blunt and honest. He is perfect for Eric, and he gives him the support he needs, and Eric can accept it without a doubt, because he has always been that way. I really enjoyed it. It was great to see them grow closer together, and solving the myriad of issues at hand. It was really well balanced, and I enjoyed how Ix did not come swooping in and fixing all of Eric’s problems like he is an incapable child, he simply fixes his problems because he can, he wants to make Eric’s life easier, so he does. And the pendant… Ix invented a cellphone pendant just to be able to talk to his lover. It is so cute! I loved it, and I want to read more by this author.

This story is the first I have read from this author and the second in the series, which can be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed this book and thought the characters were adorable. I want to go back and read the first book because I know I will love it. This is a very low angst story that focuses on the growing connection between two childhood best friends, while one navigates his new responsibilities after loss. If you are looking for a book with sweet characters, a mischievous demon, a spell gone wrong, banter, low angst and a special connection between friends growing into something more, then I recommend this book.

Thank you to BookSirens for an advanced copy of this book!

This is maybe the roughest ARC I've read so far, with typos, inconsistencies, and repetition that made me wish I had permission to edit. (I assume most of this will be cleaned up in time for publication.) I also was a little taken aback by the abruptness of the intimate scenes, and they definitely lean more towards pain play than I prefer to read.

However, that's literally all of my criticisms. This was very intriguing and the world building and side characters were touched on in such a way that made me want to read more from this series. I really loved the relationship between Eric and his sister. I bet the first book was a lot of fun, too, and I'll definitely see if I can grab a copy.

I am always a fan of friends to lovers, and Eric and Ixthan are that, but there are twists and flourishes that make it feel like its own thing, too. The reader only gets Eric's perspective, and while he can read Ixthan better than anyone, he still misses enough to be caught be surprise when Ixthan has moments of vulnerability.

I would recommend this to fans of The Magpie Lord by KJ Charles. They aren't exactly the same, even as far as the historical fantasy romance genre I feel like Magpie Lord skews more towards historical and this skews more towards fantasy, but there are similarities in terms of the relationship dynamics and the tone.

Content Warnings:
Graphic: Sexual content, Blood
Moderate: Death, Violence, Grief, Death of parent, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Body horror, Gore, Torture, Classism

I received this book as a ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Set in a historical realm where demons are well known among humans, this second installment centers on Ixthan — half-demon prince and the kind of man who throws a lavish party simply because he can. He’s charming and untouchable, powered by magic and a certain invincibility that comes with being something more than human. Until, quite suddenly, he isn’t.

When Ix’s oldest friend Eric is cast out of his family home following his father’s treason and mounting debts, Ixthan does what any devoted best friend would do: installs him in a room at the palace and pretends it’s no great matter. Eric, now a young lord with grief fresh on his shoulders and a financial crisis at his heels, is simply trying to survive. Neither of them is looking for anything more than that. Then a portal spell goes catastrophically wrong, Ixthan’s demon half vanishes entirely, and suddenly the most untouchable man in the realm is devastatingly, vulnerably human.
This is where the story truly catches fire. Watching Ixthan navigate mortality — the weight of it, the softness of it — while Eric quietly steadies him is tender in all the best ways. The friends-to-lovers dynamic is earned rather than assumed, built on years of history the reader feels even without having witnessed it firsthand. Eric’s grief gives the romance its ache; Ixthan’s stripped-down humanity gives it its heart.

A worthy continuation of the series with a romance that lingers long after the last page.

Book two in the Demon Reflected series used one of my favorite tropes. I love best friends to lovers. And bf's to lovers is even more delicious when one of them is completely oblivious to their feelings (Eric). I very much enjoyed that lightbulb ah-ha moment.
There's bantering and there's snarking. That's actually the standard/stereotype for demon/human relationships (across multiple authors). However, Eric and his half-demon Prince Ixthan seem to have quite the antagonistic connection. It crosses over to the bedroom, with some sizzlingly steamy kink. Some of this can be attributed to Ix's inability to quite connect with "human emotions/mores". But as that is part of Ix's innate charm, making his character a bit adorable.
High angst. The execution of a traitorous father. An insurmountable amount of debt left behind. Ix losing his demon magic and the trauma of becoming only human. The care given by their other half was wonderful. Emotional for our MCs and the reader as well.
Excellent secondaries. This is where reading book one, "Lord of Whispered Shadows" becomes necessary. "Prince of Hollow Desies" may or not be read as a standalone. I guess it depends on how much chaos the reader can stand.
Quick, fun read. My shallow side gives two thumbs up for the cover and title.

This book is really just oblivious idiots in love, and I'm here for it all!

I swear I thought this was going to be something lighter and instead I got hit with grief, identity crises, and the slowest, most painful "oh…" realization building between two idiots who refuse to acknowledge what's happening.

Eric is so deep in denial it's almost impressive. Like sir…the way you look at Ix? The way you notice everything about him? That is not normal best friend behavior. Please be serious.

And Ix?? Ix is even worse.

He's out here acting like he doesn't care about anything, doing illegal magic, casually opening demon doorways, being all confident and untouchable…meanwhile he's orbiting Eric in a way that is NOT subtle if you're actually paying attention.

The tension? Constant.
The staring? Suspicious.
The vibes? Extremely not straight.

And then the transformation.

I was NOT prepared for how much that would mess with me. Because suddenly Ix isn't this beautiful otherworldly, untouchable thing anymore…and it feels - wrong. Like something important got taken away.

And Eric noticing all of it? The hands, the eyes, the teeth…the fact that it actually affects him emotionally????

Yeah. No. I'm not okay.

PRINCE OF HOLLOW DESIRES is the second book in The Demon Reflected series, and this time we focus on Eric and Ixthan. Although this is the second book, you don't have to have read the first. I would recommend it, simply because it's a great story and introduction to the world.

This was a fantastic read with plenty of wit and humour along the way. You wouldn't think a book that begins with a traitor and an execution would have that, but you'd be wrong. Ixthan and Eric were absolutely made for each other in every way, although they had their own concerns and questions, as you do. They are literally childhood friends-to-lovers, and it definitely worked. I loved how Ixthan was concerned Eric wouldn't love him in all his demonic glory. I also loved how Eric proved him otherwise.

Once I started this story, I couldn't put it down. I was totally engrossed and loved every moment. I can't wait to continue with the series. Highly recommended by me. 4.5 rounded up.

Eric’s father was on trial for treason and Eric was kicked out of the family home while the court proceedings are going on. When he is found guilty and executed, he leaves Eric with an Earldom and a mountain of debt. Fortunately, his good friend Prince Ixthan invited him to stay in his rooms. Ix is half demon but living in the human world, a world that despises him. He spends his time devising experiments revolving around demons. Then one goes wrong and Ix loses his demon side. Working together to find ways to help Ix, Eric finds it difficult to hide his desire. Ix has an answer for that.

Ix is an amazing individual. He expresses himself in so many different ways and Eric left to interpret them with some success. There is a lot going on. Eric is trying to work out the estate and how to pay the debts left to him. He, with Ix’s help and that of his sister, does find some creative ways to start the process. To help Ix, even more creative ways are required. A delight from beginning to end, these two will have you smiling in some parts while not so much in other parts. A fantastic read from beginning to end, pick this one up and prepare to be entranced.

I loved this mix of fantasy, romance, with a historical atmosphere. Eric and Ixthan were such a wonderfully frustrating pair of idiots in love, and watching them slowly dance around their feelings while practically acting married the entire time was both hilarious and emotional.

Eric’s loyalty and quiet devotion to Ix really got to me, especially with everything he was carrying after his father’s execution and the weight of inheriting both a title and crushing debt. Meanwhile, Ixthan struggling with the loss of his demonic magic added so much vulnerability to his character. Seeing how deeply that change affected both of them emotionally made the story feel more layered than just a simple friends-to-lovers romance.

I also loved how natural their relationship felt within the world. The shared rooms, the closeness, the tension, all of it built so well until it became impossible for either of them to keep pretending their feelings weren’t there.

The emotional moments hit hard, but there was also so much warmth, humour, and tenderness woven throughout the story. A beautifully written fantasy romance with magic, longing, and two best friends who were clearly meant for each other long before they figured it out themselves.

This book was fantastic. Eric was considerate, genuine and reserved as he struggled with the consequences of his father committing treason, checking in on his sister Petra, and doing his best to hide his feelings for his childhood friend, Prince Ixthan. Ixthan was confident, grumbling, and often possessive of Eric as he tried to figure out how to resolve a magical experiment gone wrong without raising public suspicion. It was great seeing familiar faces from the previous book The interactions between Eric and Ixthan were funny, competitive, snarky and very spicy. It was lovely to see them encounter new experiences, express their fondness for each other more in ways that they never had before and clear up any misperceptions. I also appreciated how the author discussed the tension in terms of religion, humans, classism, demons, and grief. Overall, if you like fabulous worldbuilding, complex characters, historical fantasy, and queer spicy childhood friends / half-demon prince x earl romance with bits of sweetness, then I highly recommend this book. I got a copy and these opinions are my own.

How absolutely excellent this book is! I have become quite addicted to these stories of Regency Fantasy that Jordan Ko delivers with flawless execution. Intricate world building seamlessly and organically laid out parallel to plot, brilliant characters, an emerging mystery and their own brand of romance with a sharp and spicy kick. Not to mention the banter. Hugely satisfying read!

I loved Eric and Ix’s dynamic and I adored them completely. Eric is funny in such a fatalistic dry manner and Ix is just supremely confident and smirky- it works perfectly

They are quite the friends to lovers but also idiots to lovers and I wasn’t expecting that

I also wasn’t expecting for it to emotional along with being funny … and hot very very hot, I was expecting that TBh after the first book 😂

Do you need to read book 1 not really but you should it’s excellent

I do not know how the author fit so much goodness in such a sharp succinct and gripping way in a fairly shortish read but they did and it is excellent - it bears saying again.

If funny, swoony, emotional recency fantasy is your jam, and why wouldn’t it be , you should definitely give this a try

Synopsis: Poor Eric, his father is guilty of treason against the crown, there are piles of debts, and he's still harboring a crush on his friend: Demon Prince Ixthan. When a magical mishap occurs leaving Ix being very human, things start unraveling

Read this for:
- friends to lovers
- demon magic
- cinnamon roll MC
- there may be some new skills learned
- newly minted Earl
- mountains of debt
- magical accident
- taking place from solstice to solstice

My thoughts: I had fun reading this, Eric is a very ordinary guy with a twin sister (Petra) that he would rather spend time with than the woman he's supposed to marry, hint - you might not be straight. But he loves spending time with Ixthan. I loved the relationship that Eric and Ix have and the banter between them can be very dry and sarcastic (which is one of my favorite details with language). There are a couple of appearances of Damian and Archie from the previous book, and some new side characters that I really enjoyed. Petra sounds absolutely delightful, and I am intrigued by the introduction of Ceronzar and Brother Ramsey.

Recommend for queer fantasy romance enthusiasts.

Riveting, tension-filled, historical fantasy layered with banter, heat, and emotion.

When Eric finds himself temporarily homeless and grieving his best friend, Half-demon prince Ixthan, insists he move into his rooms at the palace. Forced proximity, magic mishaps, long pent up feelings, and a lifetime of friendship combine to push them towards more.

This world is utterly captivating. The Regency Era setting paired with the demonic world and the, then forbidden, queer love makes for a beautiful and gripping story.

I loved both Eric and Ix and following them as their soul connection and love was fully realized was such a pleasure. The forbidden aspects, the scene-stealing side characters, and scorching spice had me hooked and ready for more. Cannot wait for book three.

What you’ll get:
•Regency Era Achillean Romance
•[Half] Demon Prince/Human
•Best Friends to Lovers
•Pining
•Forced Proximity
•Hurt/Comfort
•Demonic Magic
•Spell Gone Wrong
•Witty Banter
•Spanking
•Mouthy Bottom/Greedy Top

Prince of Hollow Desires is a sweet and spicy friends-to-lovers romance — where one of the friends just happens to be a half-demon prince.

Eric and Ixthan have been friends since they were children, and Eric has quietly pined for his flirtatious half-demon friend for years, knowing his interest won’t be returned. But after Eric’s father is convicted of high treason, Ix stands by him and offers him a place to stay when all Eric inherits is debts and stares and suspicions. Their relationship begins to take a turn after close proximity — and a magical mishap — makes Ix move past his usual wry reserve. But is this just a temporary dalliance for the prince, or does he share Eric’s feelings?

This was a fantastic read. I love the magic/regency/demons mashup, and I love how real the friendship between Eric and Ix felt. Their relationship was both super hot (“good boy,” damn!) and sweet once these two idiots finally saw what was in front of them. This is book two in the Demon Reflected series, and you’ll understand the world better if you read book one first, but it’s not necessary. (But it was likewise excellent, so read it, too!)

Definitely recommend.

This was an amazing book. This is book 2 in The Demon Reflected series. This book was absolutely amazing mix a MM Romance, half demons, stupidly in love with each other MMC you can't seem to understand that. It made for an absolutely wild book.
In this book we have Eric who is now the son of a traitor. His father was executed for such which now labeled him. Then we have Lxthan who is a half demon who has been in the human world so long, that after an incident he couldn't use his powers anymore. It had been in the human realm for so long
Now Eric moved in with LX after his whole fathers mess and things get heated and spicy.
I suggest you give this book a chance it's absolutely amazing. The character building is wonderful the characters themselves are wonderful. The world to which this is built is amazing. Overall, it just hits good good if you haven't read book one I suggest you do so it's amazing.

Eric is at a difficult point in his life. His father is on trial and he is trying to deal with the impact of his father's actions on his, his sister's and his aunt's lives. He needed a place to be and his bestie Prince Ixthan has provided him with a place to be which is great and complicated. Eric has a long term desire for Ixthan that he has worked to keep the depth of his feelings from Ixthan. But proximity and circumstances are working to reveal what he has worked to conceal. And then there is a magic spell gone wrong that has taken away Ixthan's magic and they work together on this issue to help him recover his powers. This pair is fun to read about. This is such a fun best friends to lovers story with a lot of lively banter and some difficult circumstances that we see them support one another through. There is no doubt as you read that these two truly care for one another.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is my first read by Jordan Ko and I enjoyed the book. I did feel as if I dropped into an already established story. I am not sure if that is because this is the second book in a series or if it was in part of the way the character Eric, tends to think. It was easy to follow and is a unique and interesting story.
The story takes place in a regency time period where magic is real and the demon realm is an accepted place. Two of the king’s sons are half-demon, one being, Ixthan, the main character of the book. Ixthan’s best friend, Eric, has been by his side since they were children. When Eric’s family falls apart, he moves into Ixthan’s estate to start rebuilding his life. It turns out Ix ends up needing Eric just as much as Eric needs him.
I liked the dynamic between Ix and Eric. They have always been there for each other, they just did not realize how integral they were to each other’s lives.

Ix and Eric go from friends to lovers

This is essentially a friends to lovers story, but there is so much more to than that. There is magic that has come and gone and the very complex things that Eric is going through after his father is convicted of treason. The friends to lovers part of the story is fitted well into the other aspects of the story as Eric needs a place to stay and as they both try to deal with their problems and help the other one they realize that they both want more out of the relationship. The world building is great and I liked how Jordan Ko tells the story using Eric to ask the questions that we have about what is going on.
Eric’s story is very heavy and I did really like the arc of how Ix doesn’t understand how bad things are for Eric and how much it’s affecting him, not because of Ix being uncaring, but just because he’s clueless.
I am really enjoying this series and hope we get more of it from Jordan Ko.

This is one of those books where I read the first book awhile ago, loved it, and promptly forgot about the series as I read dozens of other books. I was delighted to receive the second book as an ARC, and I got to fall in love with this world all over again.

Getting to enjoy princes and castles and magic, but with an added dash of demons and kinky s*x scenes is like having your cake and getting to eat it too. I loved the dynamic between these two characters, because with anyone else neither one would have been understood; but they know each other down to the bones and soul. They fit together so well! Both in teasing each other, helping each other (in their own unique ways), and of course how they know exactly what the other likes in the bedroom. I'm happy to give this book 5 stars, and can already see the potential couple for the next book, which I'll be waiting eagerly for.
