Halloween Chase: A Death Valley Ridge Story by Brittany Shytle
This was such a fun, quick Halloween read. Detective Hale is hunting a serial killer who comes back every Halloween, kills again, and leaves behind his own little signature just to make sure everyone knows he’s back.
And somewhere along the way, Hale starts getting a little too comfortable with the man she’s supposed to be hunting. I’m sitting there like, Girl... this is probably not in the detective handbook.
But who am I kidding? Apparently Detective Hale and I have the same taste in masked men, because I’d probably be out there chasing this guy myself. 🔪 There’s just something about "I know he’s a serial killer, but hear me out..." that apparently works for both of us.
It was creepy, entertaining, and super easy to fly through. I wanted a little more from the ending. I got there and immediately thought, Wait... we’re DONE?! I wasn’t ready to leave Hale or her questionable life choices yet. But, that's the nature of short stories, and I loved this one.
Definitely a fun little Halloween story, and clearly I have no business judging Detective Hale. 🎃🖤🔪

I loved that the FMC was a police officer and the MMC was the serial killer. I loved that it had the Michael Myers vibes. I loved that instead of making Victoria his next victim he chose to protect her and make sure she's safe. I was glad there was a HEA because I honestly didn't think there would be. It was a good short story and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was grateful to be given an advanced reader copy of this book and I'm glad to say that it's my first story in the Death Valley Ridge series that I've read.
I loved the whole dynamic of the FMC being a police officer and the MMC being a serial killer with it being centered around Michael Myers vibes. Also I loved that instead of him making Victoria his next victim he chose to protect her and make sure she's safe.
I was also especially glad that the story ended in a HEA. I was scared for a minute that it would end badly but the ending was perfect.
There isn't too much spice in the short story but there was a little bit which I liked. I'm happy and grateful I chose it as my first read in the series. It short, cute and sweet.

Halloween Chase was the perfect way to finish my Death Valley Ridge reading spree for the day! 🫶
A cop hunting the serial killer who returns every Halloween… only to find herself caught up in his game? Yeah, I was IN. 👀
I loved the cat-and-mouse dynamic between Victoria and Brent. It was dark, twisted, spicy and had exactly the kind of morally questionable romance that keeps you turning the pages. 😂
Such a fun addition to the collaboration and another very easy five stars from me!
Thank you to B. Shytle for the ARC! 🎃

Another Death Valley Ridge novella in the books. Again, this one was really different from the other three that I have read so I was you know pleasantly surprised with the storyline of the detective hunting a serial killer and perhaps maybe falling for the serial killer yeah again my only complaint with this book it didn’t have a whole lot of spice and I know this author and I’m used to her spice so it was a little bit disappointing that we didn’t get the full spice that we are used to with this authors books, but it was a really good solid storyI just wish it was longer !

This was a GREAT novella.
The SK vs police officer trope is definitely one of my faaaaves to read about. The details behind the mud3rs and the stalking was perfect, the spice was just enough 👌🏼, and the little touch on the background of Mr Halloween had me wanting more.
Now I need a part two, what happened when she chose left?
What happened in Mr Halloween’s past to cause the scars?
Ooooo, you got me hanging on by a thread here!
Thank you for the ARC read, and allowing me to have my honest opinion on the book.

Halloween Chase
Thank you so much the Death Valley Ridge Team for the ARC of this series!
Halloween Chase was the first book I've read in the Death Valley Ridge series.
This is a book you could read in one hour (I surely did)! It's was fast paced, and oddly sexy... LOL (if you read it, you know what I mean... wink wink).
It would be great if this had a follow-up book on what happens next!
Trigger: murder, stalking
Spice: 3 out of 5

Now now … naughty cop gets a thrill being chase by a male killer . This took a new turn on Death Valley . Brent loves the chase , he loves to kill his-running prey until he got eyes for the cop Victoria . She ready to find the mask killer and put in behind bars. Until she gets the thrill of being his prey. Will Victoria put in a trap and be the hero to save Death Valley or will Brent’s secret life save him. Better be ready to have your nose in this book and drool coming out of ya mouth ladies.

Loved this novella!
The hunt of Mr Halloween while he stalks Victoria - taking possessive to a whole new level by letting no one touch her! Her curiosity, her desire to know more once she thinks she’s being followed? Girl was not shying away for anything - tempting fate time and time again.
I would love to see how this would play out in a longer series!

I was not prepared for how this story went. The spice was HOT 🔥🥵 but I just wish there was more from the ending. It felt like it needed a little extra something to take the story even further. It could definitely be expanded on if B. Shytle wanted to explore this story more. 🫶🏾💖
I wanted there to be more chapters, but overall it was a really enjoyable read. 😊

A Micheal Myers stalker romance novella!! Victoria is on the job to catch a serial killer but instead she catches his eye. Now he can't stay away and everyone who gets too close becomes the next victim! When she find out who he really is will she turn him in or fall in love with him!?!? Perfect novella for the spooky season!

This was a great start to the series.
Victoria’s one job is to catch the Halloween killer nicknamed Mr Halloween.
Mr Halloween’s one job is to not get caught. It doesn’t quite go to plan when he fall hard for the detective and feels the need to stalk and protect her.
I loved the actual fork in the road ending.
I can’t wait to find out what happens next in Death Valley Ridge.

Mr Halloween is watching her and she knows it .
I enjoyed this short story of Veronica being watched and encouraging the bad guy to come get her .
Some times even the bad guy wins . This was nothing like i was expecting it to be . No spoilers .
Another cool Halloween short to add to your list .

OMG!! I absolutely loved this story. This was a fun short read that I absolutely devoured. Detective Victoria Hale is hunting down a Serial Killer who returns every Halloween to murder and he loves leaving his mark so everyone knows he’s back. I loved the forbidden romance that we get to see throughout this book between the Detective and the Serial Killer.

This is my first read of the Death Valley Ridge collection and I really liked it. Really hard to review without spoiling it. As the title mentions this is about a chase. I liked Victoria but not sure of some of the decisions she made!!!

This is my first read of the Death Valley Ridge collection and I will read the whole collection: in this short novella the small suspense and stalking between Victoria & Mr. Halloween is good, just the ending really sucked.

I very much enjoyed this! I honestly wish there was more to this. I know it’s a novella and it’s supposed to be short. But I was craving more (this is a me thing). But it being short didn’t take away from the book and it was really good!

An intriguing romance between a detective hunting a serial killer and the killer who is obsessed with her. It's interesting to read Victoria battle with her conflicts of morality and the weird pull she has to him. Definitely recommend if you like dark romance.

Kinda wanna yell at the author, CAUSE I NEED MORE!!!!!!!
Things I love about this book: all the Michael Myers / Halloween references! He’s perfectly unhinged and obsessed and I’m here for it!
Please give me more!!
