Well-written and well-researched. This was a thorough explanation of the Islamic Dilemma, including responses to many common arguments that Muslim scholars will use in an attempt to respond to the Islamic Dilemma.

Would 100% recommend this book to: any non-Muslim striving to learn more about Islam; anyone considering joining Islam; any Muslim who wants to understand what the Islamic Dilemma argument is.

It will stand the test of time.

This book is the result of deep study on this important subject. I thought I had a good handle on the Islamic Dilemma, but Chris took me on an in-depth journey that I didn't know existed. I regularly recommend this book to my students. It will stand the test of time because the dilemma has no answer.

Christopher Frost (aka Chris from Speaker’s Corner) has produced the first accessible book that reveals a problem scholars and polemicists have known for quite some time. The Quran only speaks highly of—and confirms—the Jewish and Christian Scriptures. The author of the Quran believes that the Torah and the Gospel (i.e. the Injeel) are not only in continuity with Quranic theology, but he believes that they testify to a coming prophet who will confirm the prior revelations of all the prophets who came before him. Anyone who has a familiar knowledge of all three of these theological texts (the Torah, the Gospel, and the Quran) knows that this claim is a stretch at best, and an outright irreconcilable error at worst.

The book has a very simple structure, first explaining the methodology, form, and history of the argument. After the introduction, Chris takes a 4-part approach, fully unpacking the argument. Part 1 deals with the nature of the prior revelations—what exactly are the Torah and Injeel according to the Quran? Part 2 shows how the Quran claims continuity with the Torah and the Gospel. Part 3 demonstrates that the Torah and Gospel are not in alignment with Quranic theology. And lastly, Part 4 tackles the so-called “Corruption Verses,” in which Quranic interpreters attempt to argue the Quran believes the previous revelations have been so textually corrupted that their original message is now lost.

There are a great many online and video formats on YouTube explaining the argument and displaying how Muslims attempt to handle its implications. However, this book is helpful not just as a showcase of how the argument can unfold, but as a reference work. Chris has helpfully included a Quranic passages index, as well as a list of shared figures from the Bible and the Quran. Chris has created a resource that works best as a consultation, such that even those familiar with the argument will benefit. Since this book is the first of its kind and was self-published, its readability is not quite masterful. However, the book still an impressive tool. I was aware of much of the contents presented by Chris, but his organization of all the relevant information is extremely helpful.

While this is not the easiest way to get exposed to the Islamic Dilemma, this book will serve as a exceptional resource to beginners and experienced students of religion alike. I will likely continue to consult this work for years to come, until an even more rigorous study can be published in the future.

This extensively researched book is presented with the following questions: “What if the Qur’an affirms scriptures that contradict its own message? The ‘Islamic Dilemma’ presents a serious challenge: if the earlier revelations are trustworthy, they appear to undermine the Qur’an – but if they are corrupted, why does the Qur’an speak of them as authoritative?”

The author explains that this work is not a theological treatment of the topic, but a secular polemic on this dilemma, a dilemma that is clearly understood and addressed within the Muslim community. To his credit, he honestly presents the side of of the proponents of the Qur’an seeking to address this issue throughout the book.

Examples of the biblical stories and the Qur’anic versions are provided in discussing the supposed corruptions of the Torah (called Tawrat) and the Gospel (Injil, described as the revelation supposedly given directly to Jesus). In concluding this detailed work, the author notes that the research discredits the claim that there is an Islamic Torah and Gospels through “paraphrased stories, biblical turns of phrase, early Islamic scholarly opinion, and historical evidence” (p. 234). Simply stated, these books that Islam claims were corrupted by the time of Muhammed are clearly the same books accepted by Jews and Christians. Interestlingly, Christians and Jews are commanded to follow the Gospel and the Torah as authoritative scripture from Allah, even before the Qur’an was revealed. This makes the contradictions between the Qur’an and these scriptures highly problematic. Frost writes “If the Qur’an is fallible and the author has erred when claiming to be in alignment with another religion, the author is not divine and the person representing the author is not a prophet” (p. 235). He suggests that the author of the Qur’an was influenced by contemporary sources from late antiquity.

Frost closes in noting that “In terms of how the argument is perceived at the time of writing, for an increasingly large number of Muslims the dilemma is seen as an encouragement to reevaluate for the first time the biblical texts with an open mind. For most Muslims who know the argument, however, it is seen as an explicitly Christian argument for only missionary purposes” (p. 237).

The Islamic Dilemma is a fascinating and rich treatment of this issue, including a Qur’an Passage Index, a list of shared blblical and Islamic figures, and an extensive bibliography of resources.

Islam is done. It's an incoherent mess and obviously not from God. And the irony of ironies is that Muslims dare pass themselves off as the "rATiOnAl" and "lOgiCaL" ones. Hah!

The work lays out very clearly what the issue is and what it isn't, what the various approaches to resolve the contradiction have been historically and to this day, and how they all fail miserably.

Highly recommended to anyone interested in the topic of Islam, and especially for Muslims themselves.

Islamic Dilemma

1. The Quran totally confirms the Torah and Gospels in the hands of 7th century Christians and Jews as revelation from Allah.

2. The Quran contradicts the Torah and Gospels

3. If the Torah and Gospels were textually corrupted before Muhammad, then the Quran totally confirms corrupted scripture.

Therefore, Islam is false.
