The Moon Hotel: A Cozy Sci-fi Fantasy

Rate this book
Holly Greene-Moone did not expect fate to deal her a surprise inheritance after being put on a three-month “reflection” leave for telling off her boss. But here she is, the new owner of a dilapidated space station on the edge of the galaxy.

She has three months off. Why not try to rehabilitate it?

Moone’s Landing, once a thriving rest station for space travelers, is now broke and outdated. Holly arrives to find skeptical residents, a grumpy dog, an opinionated robot housekeeper, and a derelict hotel whose only paying guest is a handsome consultant trying to buy the station for his client.

Undeterred, Holly digs in on the long-overdue repairs. Along the way, she learns to bake, builds friendships, and begins to turn the station around. Guests trickle in. Systems hum back to life. Oh, and that handsome consultant? Not at all what she expected.

But not everyone wants to see Moone’s Landing restored. As systems mysteriously fail, and with her three months winding down, Holly has to face the fact that while this small, stubborn community of misfits and aliens might be the first place she’s ever truly belonged, it might also be the one she cannot save.

The Moon Hotel was written by a human being (me!). Settle in for a cozy sci-fi fantasy about fresh starts and found family. For readers who love warm, low-stakes stories set among the stars. Closed-door romance. Big universe. Warm hearts. One very judgmental beagle.

Delightful

I love Ella Blake’s novel so I snapped this up as soon as it was released. Now I am really hoping there will be a sequel. I suspect there will be, because we need to know what happened with Birler. This was a delightful cozy sci-fi, a rare genre. It satisfying to see the rehabilitation of the station. It was also satisfying to read about Holly‘s journey of self-discovery, to say nothing of her slow burn romance. Yes, the villain of the piece was obvious from the beginning, but the dénoument is always worth waiting for.

Very nice and cozy read. We meet Holly who is discovering what's important to her and who she truly is deep down. We get to see her meet a lot of interesting residents (though for most we do not get to fully learn their backgrounds) and make lasting connections with them. I liked how this was done and how the struggle to having to conform or remain true to oneself came forward in this story. The love connection was sweet to read but the focus of the story was on saving the way station. I would love to read subsequent stories on the other residents and learn what will happen in the future!

Cozy indeed

I truly enjoyed this book. The chracters are extremly engaging and quirky. There are no abductions, no battles, just a great story about finding yourself and family. More please.

This was a fluffy and cozy book. Loved the world building of the space station etc. The relationship building was lacking, it was very surface level only.

No angst, very sweet and non offensive.
