Samantha Hayes came with two missions: Babysit her best friend’s babies and destroy The Ledger. She never planned on Aiden Hunt. The quiet twin is gentle is gentle with the babies and ruthless with secrets. Evidence appears to easily, truths unlock to perfectly, and Samantha realize she might be chasing a story written by the very man she is falling for.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Aiden is one spicy MMC, intense, possessive, and, can we just say, Jacob's ladder? Samantha is broken but incredibly strong. I loved her tenacity and her resolve to never give up on finding the truth and what happened to her father.
The Ledger took Samantha’s father from her, and she will do everything she can to find the truth. But when Aiden Hunt enters her life, he upends everything. She is forced to question what she thought she knew. As she digs deeper she discovers a pattern of reform within the organization contradicting everything she thought it was. The Ledger was supposed to help people, but it turned into something ugly, a stain on humanity. The Hunt brothers decided to dismantle the criminal aspect of the organization, turning it legit.
I loved the intensity of Aiden and Samantha's struggle to ignore their attraction to each other (it's okay, Samantha, we all knew that wouldn't last long!). As the tension builds between them it reaches the breaking point, creating some intense and delicious spicy scenes. When the shadows start to spread, threatening to not only pull the Ledger back into the dark but destroy everything Aiden loves, he tries to carry the burden alone. But there is no need to do it alone, when he has a tribe behind him, willing to get their hands dirty. Throughout this Samantha proves she is no damsel in distress. She honestly surprised me with her resourcefulness when fighting for what is right and for the person she loves.
Breaking a cycle of abuse is never easy. As the past refuses to let go, the Hunt’s start to feel pressure, threatening everything they’ve worked so hard to build. It felt like the book paralleled the struggle anyone faces when trying to be the break in the chain. Through the trials and threats of the shadows, they learn who their real family and friends are, creating a stronger force to fight against the shadows that may try to sneak back in.
ARC Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Release Date: April 30, 2026 The Ledger’s Shadows by LT Autumn
First of all—thank you. Again. For trusting me with an ARC and for apparently deciding my emotional stability was optional this week. Always appreciated.
Now, for anyone who knows me: dark billionaire romance is usually not where I casually wander into. It’s not the aisle I naturally shop in. Rich dangerous men with emotional damage and morally questionable hobbies? Normally I’d keep walking. But after reading part one and meeting LT Autumn’s writing before, I went into part two willingly. No regrets. Mild psychological damage maybe, but no regrets.
This book grabbed me by the throat early and never loosened its grip. From the first page until the last, I was in it. No distance. No “I’ll just read one chapter.” Lies. Absolute lies. I was right there with Aiden and Samantha, dragged through every secret, every silence, every look that said too much and not enough.
You can feel the love in this story, which is deeply inconvenient because it’s the kind of love that should come with warning labels. Wrong. Dangerous. Messy. The type of connection that makes you want to scream at people while rooting for them anyway. My favorite kind of suffering, apparently.
The tension? Sharp. The betrayal? Nasty. The longing? So intense I genuinely forgot to breathe a few times. Which feels dramatic to admit, but this book earned the drama.
What I loved most is that underneath the wealth, the danger, the twisted power games, there’s something painfully human hiding there: the need to be chosen. To be loved over legacy. To matter more than money, bloodlines, expectations, or whatever cold family empire nonsense people keep ruining lives for.
And it asks a question I kept circling the whole time: if someone does terrible things, does that automatically make them terrible? Unfortunately, this book doesn’t hand you easy answers. It just stares at you in the dark and lets you suffer with the thought. Respect.
My only reason for not giving the full five stars is that some conflicts wrapped a little cleaner than my personal dark little heart prefers. I like my battles bloody, emotionally speaking. A few moments felt almost too merciful. Suspicious behavior.
But still—this was addictive, emotional, tense, and impossible to walk away from. The kind of book that makes your tea go cold, your wine untouched, and your responsibilities irrelevant.
If you want a romance full of obsession, revenge, secrets rotting from the inside out, and love so intense it tastes dangerous—pick this up. Get comfortable. Cancel your plans. Enter the shadows.
Currently diving into The Ledger’s Shadows and already obsessed 👀
This is the kind of story that pulls you in quietly… and then refuses to let go.
The tension? Sharp. The characters? Dangerous. The vibe? Dark, consuming, and just a little unhinged. You know those stories where you shouldn’t trust him… but you do anyway? Yeah… this is that.
Morally grey, slow-burn, and full of secrets that feel like they’re about to explode at any moment 🔥
I already know this one is going to wreck me in the best way 🖤
I received this as an ARC and this is my honest opinion. Samantha is just fucking amazing. I knew from book one that Aiden was amazing but now that he has his own book I’m speechless. I just love the world’s that L.T. Autumn makes. It’s like you’re actually in the books with the characters and you just want more. I hope L.T. Autumn continues to write so that many more readers can experience her books.
I absolutely loved this!! Seeing Aiden and Samanthas story definitely hit the spot after The Forbidden. And finding out more about the past, especially with The Ledger, YES!! Very well written, flows perfectly and I absolutely DEVOURED this!
Samantha Hayes is that girl. She rolls in with a plan, a purpose, and absolutely no intention of catching feelings. Babysit the babies, take down The Ledger, keep it clean and simple. Except NOTHING about this book stays simple for more than five seconds. Watching her try to stay focused while everything around her starts twisting?? Addictive. I was right there with her like “girl… something is OFF.”
And then there’s Aiden Hunt. The quiet twin. The soft-spoken, watchful, deceptively gentle man who is AMAZING with babies (instant weakness, I don’t make the rules) but also??? hiding entire galaxies of secrets behind those eyes. He’s the kind of character where every line feels loaded. Every look feels like a clue. I did not trust him. I absolutely fell for him anyway. Problematic behavior on my part? Yes. Regrets? None.
The vibe of this book is immaculate. It’s all tension and whispers and that creeping feeling that you’re being led somewhere you didn’t choose. The evidence shows up too perfectly. The puzzle pieces click a little too neatly. And you start to realize, just like Samantha does, that maybe… just maybe… someone is writing the story while she’s still inside it.
That realization?? CHILLS. Actual chills.
And the romance woven through all of this?? It’s not loud. It’s not flashy. It’s quiet, intense, and laced with suspicion. Every soft moment between Samantha and Aiden feels like it could either be real… or part of something much bigger and much more dangerous. I was constantly torn between “kiss him immediately” and “run for your life.” The emotional whiplash was unreal.
Also the babies?? Tiny chaotic angels adding warmth to an otherwise tense, eerie atmosphere. The contrast?? Chef’s kiss.
By the end I was sitting there like I’d just been outplayed. Fully entertained. Slightly betrayed. Emotionally invested beyond reason. This book doesn’t just tell a story, it pulls the strings and dares you to notice.
The Ledger’s Shadows pulls you right back into that dark billionaire world, and honestly, it goes even harder this time. L.T. Autumn has this way of writing that feels just the right amount of unhinged, keeping the stakes high and the tension constant. It’s a bit of a slow build at first, but it never feels like a drag. Instead, it gives you the time to really get into the Hunt family drama and understand the messy, complicated feelings brewing between the main couple. Aiden Hunt is exactly the kind of morally grey, possessive man you can’t help but root for. He’s dark, mysterious, and carries this intense "touch her and die" energy that owns every single scene. Watching Samantha try to take down The Ledger while fighting her massive attraction to him is so addictive. They both have so many secrets, and because some of the scenes are written from two different perspectives, you get to see exactly how hard they’re fighting to save each other—even when they’re standing on opposite sides. The chemistry is electric, and the twists will definitely have you holding your breath. While you could technically read this as a standalone, I’d really suggest starting with The Forbidden first to get the full vibe of the story. This is definitely the kind of book you’ll want to grab a coffee—or maybe something stronger—and settle in with for a long, uninterrupted reading session. It’s intense, messy, and leaves you desperate to see what's coming next.
Well I got my wish from book 1 - the babies names!! Those kiddies were such great little side characters that helped break tension - at times much to the dismay of the main characters!
Much like book 1, LT Autumn draws you into the world she creates and builds tension beautifully.
Samantha has faced the heartbreak of her father disappearing from her life as a teenager, the official report is car accident but she believes in her heart of hearts it was The Ledger’s doing so became a reporter to be able to investigate and hopefully expose people behind The Ledger…. They just happen to be her best friend, best friend’s husband and the brother in law - the man she’s fallen in love with.
Aiden is quite literally a smooth criminal. He’s got a cheeky grin and dimple that could make a girls knees go weak. He also is man behind The Ledger, reforming it piece by piece and also feeding false leads to a pesky reporter that may or may not be the love of his life.
This book much like book 1 has a lot of twists and turns, kidnapping and secret identities and a decent amount of spice to go round.
I know this is a duology but I’d love to see a novella based around how the book ended.
L.T. Autumn truly outdid herself with The Ledger’s Shadows. From the moment Samantha Hayes enters the dangerous world of The Ledger to uncover the truth, I was completely hooked. The story is filled with secrets, tension, betrayal, and the kind of emotional chaos that keeps you turning pages way too late at night. Aiden Hunt was everything I want in a morally grey love interest — protective, intelligent, ruthless, and unexpectedly soft beneath all the darkness. The chemistry between him and Samantha was addictive, filled with tension and hidden truths that made every interaction feel intense. What stood out most was the atmosphere of the book. The secrets surrounding The Ledger and the Hunt family created this constant feeling of danger and suspense, and the twists genuinely shocked me. Dark, emotional, and impossible to put down — this is a must-read for anyone who loves secret societies, morally grey characters, and romance wrapped in shadows.
@house.of.myth.za Thank you to L.T. Autumn for the ARC copy!
The Ledger’s Shadows goes even harder into that dark billionaire world and I was so here for it. The stakes feel higher, the tension is constant, and it’s got that slightly unhinged edge L.T. Autumn does so well. Aiden Hunt is exactly the kind of morally grey, possessive man you can’t look away from, he just owns every scene he’s in.
Samantha’s whole mission to take down The Ledger while also fighting that pull towards him makes the push and pull so addictive. It’s messy, intense, and keeps you hooked the whole time.
All the secrets, the power plays, and that underlying danger just build on what the first book started. The chemistry is strong, the tension is there, and it keeps you on edge in the best way.
If you liked the first book, this one definitely steps it up and leaves you wanting whatever comes next.
Definitely recommend if you love dark billionaire romance with obsession, danger, and a lot of intensity.
I thought I had a new dark and broody book boyfriend in Alexander Hunt. Boy was I so wrong. Enter Aiden Hunt. The genius hacker who can make any woman forget a bad day with his expert flirting. This genius has a new toy in the form of gorgeous stubborn and secretive Samantha. Samantha gas one mission to uncover the secrets hidden in the secret society. The Ledger's Shadow has an amazing plot which keeps your attention but not so much that you forget about the two hot main characters. If you love a book that you can get lost in on a weekend day or just unwind after a long day...this is definitely the book
I can't wait to see what author L.T Autumn has in store for us in the future.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review of my honest feelings about the above books
Set in Pretoria, South Africa, this is the second book following the Hunt twins and their family-run crime group turned protectors, The Ledger.
This story centres on the blossoming romance between Aiden Hunt and Samantha Hale and their connection to the Ledger. Aiden is the architect of its new laws, while Samantha’s father fell victim to its old ways.
Samantha is desperate to tear the Ledger apart, but as she digs into its history she begins to realise exactly who Aiden is — and what he does to protect his family.
The book has a slow build-up to the action, but it never felt unnecessary. It gives you time to really understand the Hunt family dynamics, and you get a strong sense of the couple’s developing feelings and the complications that come with them.
I really liked that some scenes were written from two different viewpoints — it added depth without ever feeling repetitive.
I loved how hard Aiden and Samantha fought to save each other, with real danger for them both along the way.
This is a well-written book that can be read as a standalone, but I’d definitely recommend reading The Forbidden first.
Overall, it’s a strong story with characters you can easily support and fall in love with. I rated it 4.5 stars due to the slow start.
A dark romance with strong characters and a HEA — I’d love to see what happens next for them. Definitely worth a read.
WOW...I have a new favorite hunt brother and it is Aiden!
This story continues on from the end of Book 1 The Forbidden but goes into Aiden and Samantha's story. I LOVED IT!
The tension and pull between Aiden and Samantha, the wanting but denying.
He has his secrets and is the one in the shadows running the show; he is dark, mysterious and always the protective one, even if it means losing everything.
She has her secrets and is trying to uncover secrets she doesnt fully understand, even if that means ruining everything she loves.
The twists and turns, the holding of your breath. I loved the ending and how it all wrapped up, reading the last few chapters, my heart felt full and I had goosebumps!
Wow! Aiden is by far my favorite Hunt brother! He’s dark & light, grim and caring and most of all, he is the true definition of a flirt! The ambition Samantha had is undeniable and doesn’t make her out to be the weak fmc. This is the perfect book for those who love a secret society, dark romance with pierced men👀. The plot builds at a good pace where it doesn’t feel rushed or slow burn. The tension builds and you can feel it in your bones! I highly recommend giving this book a read!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book is all secrets, betrayals, and impossible choices. There’s kidnapping, fake leads, and spice that actually moves the plot forward 🌶️ The tension between duty vs love had me stressed in the best way.
Bonus: the kids finally get names and they’re hilarious chaos in the middle of all the drama.
LT Autumn wraps the duology, but that ending?? I’m not okay. We need more ASAP. I also so wish I had read this sooner 😩.
Check your triggers — this one’s dark, twisty, and addictive.
This book is book 2 in the series but can be read as a stand alone. Aiden and Samantha's story was amazing. There were secrets, kidnapping, torture, hidden identity and intrigue. This book had me at the edge of my seat in some parts and there was spice. Highly recommend this book. Glad I discovered this author. Can't wait to read more of her work.
I received this copy as an Advanced Reader copy. I am not being paid to review. I loved being able to read Aiden’s story. He was by far my favorite character. His heart break was my heart break. I feel so devastated that this book is over. Pace is great, spice is great, storyline is also great. Love this book!
Oh, did I think I knew which brother was my favorite? I did, I did. Was I mistaken? I was, I was. The energy and chemistry in this one is flawless. You can almost palpably feel the tension, the pull, between Aiden and Samantha. Absolutely love it! The plot on top of the romance too? Definitely kept me pulled in with a lovely pace from start to finish.
Book 2 sucks you straight back in to the dark romance world. The twist and turns continues, drama and intrigue alongside some spicy moments. Enjoyed more than the first book.
Thank you to the author for copy of this book. I have chosen to leave my review.
I absolutely loved this!! Can't wait to read more of her work. Check your triggers — this one’s dark, twisty, and addictive. This book much like book 1 has a lot of twists and turns, kidnapping and secret identities and a decent amount of spice to go round.
What a fantastic book, LT.Autumn! From the sleek and polished Alexander Hunt in book 1 to the Hacker and mastermind, Aiden Hunt. I loved the plot from the get go and Aiden won my heart from the minute he held those babies.. I was swooning while he gave the babies a performance of their lives... his commitment towards Sam from the moment he set his eyes was unwavering... so many emotions and unexpected twists. Sam on the other hand was so stubborn but she was his home and I'm glad she trusted him because no was faithful to her in every way possible. All in all a beautiful book and I can say Aiden Hunt you won my heart!
