Detailed spoilers/trigger warnings (if any) and final thoughts can be found below. There is a warning right before the spoiler and trigger section so you have the choice to proceed or stop reading.

Summary: This story follows Taya and Mason. Taya is new to Wildflower Canyon, having moved there six months ago when she left her last job under duress, parts of which come full circle later in the book. She is an attorney and is currently working with a widowed mother whose ranch is being threatened by a developing company. Mason has been hired by a political figure who is very interested in this developing company succeeding in getting what they want. His job is to get information regarding the case, using any means necessary.

He chooses to get close to the FMC, and they begin dating, which he hopes will earn her trust enough for him to get the information that he needs. What he doesn’t realize is the more time he spends with the FMC, he begins to have real feelings for her, which serves as a conflict of interest in the job that he needs to do because he no longer wants to do it.

Choosing to betray the FMC leaves Mason with a deep sense of regret and the immediate desire to make things right, which begins with Taya but extends to all the people affected by his choices. Things are reaching a critical point with the case and the other side is amping up their intimidation tactics and there are safety concerns for many people. When the case finally settles, Taya needs to decide if moving forward with Mason and forgiving him is possible.

⚠️SPOILERS/SPICE/DETAILED TRIGGERS⚠️

*Some violent scenes.
🌶️:1.5/5

Final thoughts: As expected, this book was so good. The desire from the author to represent the FMC and her culture/ethnicity was evident from page one. I connected to Taya immediately because her character development was so thorough. It’s also what made the angst in this one good because I hurt so bad when she realized that Mason had betrayed her. We as the reader knew it because we read his chapters and what he had done, but when she realized it, it just hit different.

I expected a little more grovel so I was surprised by that but that was fine for me because I don’t need grovel that lasts half the book. Since this is book four in the Wildflower Canyon series, characters from past books were present and we had the chance to catch up which was nice. This book was about betrayal as much as it was about the Ute culture and I loved it and definitely recommend.

Heroine, Taya, is a lawyer for Water rights mainly, though after moving in Wildflower she takes care of everything. Initially being on the other side, she switches sides and fights for the ranches instead with the big corporations. After taking Clara's case, the big pockets try with every way to make her go away or lose the case.
So hero, Mason, comes in town to gather information about her and the case that would be useful for the big pockets. But Mason, an exceptional professional and emotional detached, falls in love with Taya. And he has no choice but to finish the job even though he'll betray her.
Is he capable of doing the right thing? Can anything be salvaged? And the case that she's fighting?
I loved Taya, her strength and honesty and how she knew her self worth and didn't coward or hide. She knew what she wanted and she demanded nothing less. But not in aggressive way but more with a silent strength like a river.
Mason is a confused human being, excellent at his job, but in his personal life ugh. He's used to be emotional detached that when he falls in love he can't recognize it. But when he redeems himself it's hard not to like him.
Their relationship was really smooth and deep and Taya finds pieces of herself in Mason's personality and life and that makes the connection even more firm.
Also, I loved how we got glimpses of the other couples from the previous books and especially Duke and Elena, my favourite! I do hope next book is about Kaz. I so want to see him on his knees!
I received this arc and this is my honest opinion.

[eARC]I knew going into this book that Maya Alden had given a lot of thought and consideration into the Southern Ute culture and it really showed in the book. The descriptions of events in the story were a delight to read and gave a glimpse into the culture.

Now, in relation to Taya, she was a wonderful FMC. I loved how aware she was of herself and how she handled the betrayals she experienced at the hands of her ex and then Mason. She had such a strength of character and was very honest with herself.

Mason, the MMC, it was clear that he was conflicted right from the start but seemed to rationalise the decisions he made. I'm glad he got to feel the emotions of losing someone like Taya.

As for the Wildflower Canyon community, I loved how they had Taya's back and how they showed that support in relation to Mason.

While there was not heavy grovel in terms of some of the other books invthus series, I felt it was appropriate for who Taya and Mason were as individuals and a couple.

I really enjoyed how all of our previous couples in this series were involved at some point in tjis book. It was great to revisit with them.

Finally, I'm hoping that Kaz and Bree are the next couple, especially following on from what was mentioned in the bonus to this book. I can't wait!!

Maya never fails to weave a nuanced story enriched with emotional depth and cultural sensitivity. In this newest installment to The Wildflower Canyon series, we follow a Southern Ute lawyer with a specialized knowledge and passion for water rights. She has made a new home in the Wildflower community and is currently representing a local ranch against a proposed multi-million dollar development. However, she is not prepared when explosive sparks ignite with an unknown land surveyor comes to town with less than honorable intentions. What follows is a story of legacy, honor, and what it truly means to find home.

This a a love letter to the Southern Ute traditions set among the sprawling mesas and valleys set among the Colorado Mountains. It is a story steeped in roots, family, and the traditions that ties us to the land and its people.

The Lonely Road is a must read and I urge you to pick up its wonderful pages when it releases on October 15th. As always, please check content warnings.

Taya, (what a gorgeous name) is a lawyer for Water rights, this was something I hadn't ever heard about, but Maya explains the process well. Tara used to represent the bigger companies, but after being left heartbroken by a former colleague she takes on the all round law firm in Wildflower Valley. Taya takes on Clara's fight to retain her water rights against a big company, who send Mason to try and steal Taya's work.
Mason falls in love with Taya, who falls for him, but he is there to steal from her and this he does. Then the story takes hold, there is drama, heartbreak, grovel, redemption and all while Maya educates us on the culture of the Ute people, which I enjoyed learning about.
I loved how strong Taya was, she was an amazing Woman. Mason started out the bad guy but we learn to love him when he does the right thing.
I loved that we also caught up with the previous couples, and now they have a sort of "Girl gang" which is cool.
I would definitely recommend this book 100%. Another great instalment in this series, I'm hoping that we get the story from Kaz and Bree.

Wow, what can I say to describe such a wonderful, authentically beautiful story! Maya takes us back to Wildflower Canyon and we meet Mason and Taya. Taya’s was born in Denver and raised in Ignacio, Colorado, home of the Southern Ute Reservation. Her heritage is interwoven within their journey and is so inspirational!

Taya is a Natural Resources and Water Law lawyer in Wildflower Canyon. She has taken a water rights case that, unbeknownst to her at the time, was an integral part of some potential upcoming new development (most in Wildflower Canyon do not want the development). Mason is a fixer, hired to “spy” on Taya and get information on her case that would destroy her ability to win it. Can they overcome the betrayal and their differences?

We are immersed in Wildflower Canyon throughout the story where we get to catch up with the other residents we have already met. I’d highly recommend this amazing story!

How do you handle lies and deceit, not once but twice? How do you protect yourself from a man breaking your heart? This is Taya Morningstar’s dilemma. Mason Brooks has a job-get the goods on Taya and help his employer tank her water rights case to allow development in Wildflower Canyon. Unfortunately, Mason falls for Taya, too, but when scared of his feelings, he betrays her and runs. What follows is a man learning who he really wants to be and a woman deciding if he can do that with her.

Taya is smart, strong, and willing to work hard for her clients and her own wellbeing. She has a strong sense of her own self-worth and her responsibilities to herself, her clients, and her community. Mason has a lot to learn and almost loses everything before he finds his way. Lots of characters from previous books in the Wildflower Canyon series, but this book can be read alone. Also introduces some future book ideas, but without overwhelming Taya and Mason’s story. Good read!

Wow what another outstanding read from Maya. We go back to Wildflower Canyon where we meet Mason Brooks who starts off as the villain set out to dupe the heroine Taya Morningstar. He is paid money to make her lose her water rights case so that the developers can build resorts in Wildflower Canyon. What starts with Mason just getting what he needs from Taya all of a sudden, it begins to go pear-shaped because he falls for her. He gets scared about his feelings for her so he betrays her and leaves. It’s only then that he realises he doesn’t want to be that person anymore and decides to make changes so he can fix what he broke.
Whilst there wasn’t a heavy grovel, I felt it was just chef’s kiss for this book. I’m also happy to see the other couples that we loved in the previous books as well. I really enjoyed this book give it a go! Happy reading.

WOW, what a beautiful read.

The more I read about this town, the more I see of those characters from other books…I just loved the world that Maya has built here.

The authenticity of this book, the heart that you could feel pouring out of the pages; it really created a foundation for the love story that was all a lie to begin with, but even before the characters could see it happening, the reader could see it…!

I will say that what the MMC does is truly awful and I would be hard beat to forgive and forget but it true Maya style he grovels hard and comes back and redeems himself.

I really don’t want this series to end.

It never ceases to amaze me how immersive Maya’s books are. The depth of research she puts into every subject she writes about shines through on every time, making her stories feel both authentic and engaging.

I really enjoyed returning to Wildflower Canyon and catching up with the gang. It felt like coming home to familiar friends, and I loved getting to know Mason and Taya. Their story was heartfelt and kept me invested from the first page to the end.

I received an arc and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

Like always Maya strikes again with a great story!
Taya was my favorite kind of MFC strong, kind and badass woman and she was just amazing. I’ll be honest though and tell you that I did not like Mason at all like even at the end I didn’t feel him maybe it’s a me problem but I just couldn’t like him nit like Maya’s other MMCs yes he redeemed himself and Taya was so freaking forgiving.
The story was amazing not too angsty like the others in the series but good nonetheless and I loved it.
No and I can’t wait for Bree, Joy, and hopefully Clara’s books

Taya and Mason are meant to be. Even from the beginning, knowing what he had to do, Mason felt it and knew he has met a woman who will be the one to be his home. What a live story! Mason was absolutely 100% redeemed and Taya was strong but not so hard headed not to see true remorse and change in him. These two are true couple goals and I loved all the support characters that came along with them, especially Eli, he was the sweetest boy!

If you're looking for a betrayal, no cheating, with absolute redemption and a hea, then pick this one up. Loved it!

This is book 4 in this series. I love Mason and Taya's book. I love how Maya described the characters and their story. Maya did a great job writing Taya's character in a way which supports the Ute tribe. Mason's character quickly realized some things about himself and who he was. He made the decision to change and repair what he broke. I was excited to get back to the valley and visit characters from previous books. Great book!!!

The Lonely Road by Maya Alden is a must read. This book can be read alone but the series makes it even more special. I love how all the past characters still live on in her latest novel to support her new couple. Mason starts the story off as the bad guy but our heroine Taya will inspire him to change his ways. Obviously, it won’t be an easy battle but both are strong smart characters. The reader will enjoy the ups and downs in this romantic tale. Happy Reading!

Was it my favourite read nope because somehow I feel like nothing can beat her kiss from a rose. But I totally enjoyed reading this book, especially the Ute Tradition. It was all so exciting and Kaz being outed out is amazing.
