The official manga adaptation of the New York Times bestselling novel Thrawn by Timothy Zahn
Grand Admiral Thrawn’s legend begins far from the Empire, deep within the enigmatic Chiss Ascendancy. Exiled from his people and driven by a relentless strategic brilliance, Thrawn navigates a treacherous world of shifting loyalties, hidden threats, and political maneuverings. Across dangerous missions and high-stakes confrontations, he proves himself a master tactician—one whose cold precision and insight draw the attention of powers beyond his own galaxy.
This is the story of Thrawn’s earliest rise, reimagined in striking manga form. From the shadows of the Unknown Regions to the brink of Imperial discovery, Star The Manga Vol. 1 charts the formative steps of a mind destined to reshape the galaxy.
LOVED seeing Thrawn in manga form. This artist really captured how Thrawn was meant to look, and the panic in Eli’s face in so many situations was great. Highly recommend. Cant wait to read the rest.
I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the UK copy of “Thrawn” by Man Tsang before its U.S. release. What a fantastic adaptation of Zahn’s 2017 novel. The artwork, first and foremost, is incredible. Every little detail helps convey the story perfectly. As a huge fan and collector of the Thrawn novels, I was excited to hear about the manga adaptation, and was not disappointed. I believe this collects roughly chapters 1-9 of the first book, starting on the planet where Thrawn is found and ending on Ansion right before Thrawn interrogates the pirates. My favorite thing about the manga adaptation is I feel it more thoroughly conveys the xenophobia and bullying Thrawn and Eli face, which is, of course, one of the main themes and topics in the novel as Thrawn battles discrimination amidst his rise in the Empire (as does Eli!). It’s crucial to convey this in a manner that drives the point home effectively, and the manga does just that, more so I felt than the comic adaptation. The cover art is stunning, and it is absolutely worth picking up for Thrawn fans, or for manga readers looking to get into Star Wars.

I haven't read any of the Thrawn novels, so this was my first time seeing him on paper. I like the art. It's pleasant to read. But it feels rather slow. It feels like the plot could be a bit tighter. But Thrawn's cool I guess.
A great adaptation of the Disney Thrawn novel (gladly the Timothy Zahn). Man Tsang did a great job on this book.
Exiled from his own people Thrawn turns a random Imperial scouting mission to his introduction to the Emperor. Right from the start of his Imperial career he will be tested politically by Imperial who see him as a threat to their own careers or political ambitions. However they gave no idea who they are messing with.
A great introduction to Thrawn to anyone who has not seen or heard of him before. A brilliant tactician who manages to turn everything to his own advantage or sometimes even, knowingly, walks into a trap and traps his opponent. I can't wait for volume 2.
