This book explores how Jesus taught us to pray when we need an answer from God right now. There’s a bold way to pray that receives today what God was intending to do tomorrow. All you need is a close friendship with God. When you have relational equity with God, you can pray with such audacity that others are like, “You shouldn’t talk to God like that!” But it’s precisely to this kind of illegal praying that Jesus surprisingly invites us. You’re a friend of God—so ditch propriety, forget the rules, throw caution to the wind, and pray illegal prayers.
Bob Sorge is “the speaker who can’t talk”—that is, he is reduced to a whisper because of a debilitating vocal injury he suffered over 20 years ago. Through the journey, God has given him an empowering message that explores God’s purposes in fiery trials. It’s not the fire that changes you but your pursuit of God in the fire that changes you. Bob has a unique way of helping us process our journey so we stay in the race and overcome. Whether you’re reading one of his books or listening to him, you’re about to receive a message from the heart of God that will strengthen your faith and draw you into greater intimacy with Jesus.
I liked this book. Sometimes we need a good wake-up call in our walk of faith, and this book does that for us in the area of intercessary prayer. This is a short, easy-to-read book that is definitely worth the read.
I had to stop reading this book after the third chapter. From there I skimmed. There might be some really good things in here, but when I read “confidence will say to God… ‘the only way I’ll quiet down is if You give me Your three loaves.’” (In relation to how we are to pray based on the parable Luke 11:5-10) I think the author went too far.
I love how it started out, and how throughout the book he emphasizes that because of our relationship with God, we can be bold and ask for things we might not have otherwise — without an understanding of what a true relationship with The Father looks like, we shy away from the asking that He desperately wants from us.
But the author goes a bit too far at times (again, not all through the book, but at times) making it seem like we have to beg, or if we just holler and bother God enough, He will answer. I think that distracted from the heart of what the author was trying to convey.
He did a sermon on this book at my church. Great illustration and perspective about the story in bible, Luke 11:5-8, all about perseverance. I didn’t give it 5 star because he goes off tangent several times.
As a believer, we should be aggressive always moving forward. Too many times we about the blame from our passiveness to say it's not God’s time. Pray crazy scary prayers and persistent. Loved this book and now it's time to apply its principles.
A great encouragement to pray in faith believing that God will answer NOW. I am fascinated by Sorge's argument that bold prayers that disrupt the original timing and intention of God will accelerate Christ's second coming.
Great book, one of my favorites now. If you are stuck with unanswered prayers, Go ahead and read this book. Bob shows us a different level in our relationship with God. We are challenged to see how God teaches us to go further and ask what we need in total confidence. God is good!
I enjoyed this book. It affirmed some things in my heart about prayer that I have practiced for years in my own prayer life. We need to be bold in prayer. This book is a balanced book where the author does a good job in balancing the sovereignty of God and our own freedom. Jesus teaches about being persistent in prayer. Some readers of more reformed traditions may be skeptical of some things but I believe overall this book should encourage us to pray with more boldness.
