WOW!! What an explosive end to this fabulous series!!! This book was by far the darkest and most emotionally stressful book of the series, and the excitement did not stop for a moment. I felt like I was sweating and holding my breath through the whole thing!! I even came dangerously close to crying (for good and bad reasons!!), more than once, and I NEVER cry! Although Kit and Penny have their moments of frustration with each other; through this entire series, and this book included, they never lose faith in each other or their relationship. There are none of the misunderstandings or miscommunications you often find in a series where the main couple gets together in earlier books and stays together. They learn and grow together, and are so kind and respectful and caring towards each other. It’s beautiful 🥺🥺🥺🥺.
Sometimes when you read a series, it loses its momentum as the books go on or the story wavers and interest is lost as it grows. That is NOT the case with this series, quite the opposite actually. Each book is more and more exciting, the danger more intense, the stakes higher. It maintains its quaint, cozy feel throughout all four books, even with the increased danger and villainous behavior. Understanding of the cult and the Gods is really brought to a head in this book, and there are even some paranormal elements. The ending is so perfect, and MAY have been the source of some of my *good* almost-tears.
This book is my favorite of the four, but all four have been 5 star reads and the series as a whole is 5+!! THANK YOU to the authors for not only allowing me to ARC read this book, but the entire series. It was a joy to partake in such a unique and engaging adventure!

What a journey this has been!!!!!!!
If you’ve made it this far into the series, you probably don’t need any encouragement to read the final book and are just as eager and excited about it as the rest of us were. Well, let me tell you, this will be everything you could hope for and more 😭😭
We put the ever-present coziness aside for a second, because this is it now! It’s now or never! This book played with my emotions big time. It had me feeling hopeful, then heartbroken, angry, hopeful again, defeated, ready to murder somebody lol, and hopeful again. The character development was unreal, not just for Penny and Kit, who, despite all the odds and everything they were told growing up, proved to be extremely strong and resilient, but for everyone else as well. Characters we saw as innocent and frail, along with everyone in the town who had to subject themselves to the Bone Men, really had to prove what they were made of in this book.
This is haaaard lol, I don’t wanna spoil anything. It was just such a strong and perfect way to end the series. The authors gave us one hell of a story climax that had me losing my mind while trying to pick up my jaw from the floor 😂 You guys won’t be disappointed. It had tension, it had heart, and it had the absolute most adorable and heartfelt moment in the entire series, that made everything worth it 🥹🤍
I’m so sad because I just finished it and I already miss them! I can’t believe there isn’t a 5th book to look forward to 😭

Last Rites has that balance of sweet and sorrow that I love so much from this series. After three books of escalating threats to Kit and Penny, I knew whatever they faced in Last Rites would be harrowing...the ultimate test of their growth as individuals and as lovers. This book more than delivered.
Now that I can step back and see the series as a whole, I can't help but marvel at how well it came together in the end. Sometimes after finishing a series I wish there was more beyond the last page, but I feel like Kit and Penny's story closed exactly where it needed to. I'm just happy I got to be along for the journey.
I'm grateful I got to check out an advance copy. I'm leaving this review of my own accord.

In exchange for an honest Review i got to read the ARC of The Last Rites Book 4 in the Bone Man Series by C.J Tuma and Quinn Cameron by the Authors.
The Last Rite is the 4th and final book in the Bone Men series the story about a cult where they try to resurrect their god by sacrificing the bones of the dead to make the vessel of a god!
In the 4th book we continue right after the ending of book 3 when Kit decided to leave Penny back on the farm to go back to Ashpoint to do what he has to do dismantle the Bone Men cult from within becuse he is scared that Penny will get hurt he go back alone but when he arrives and Penny is there angry and plauged with doubt he have placed in him becuse he left him back at the farm their relationship becomes strained as the same time their mission to dismantle the Bone men will soon get much more difficult when tragedy strick right down in the middle of the cult and their Second Hand and old friend of Kit, Levitt suddenly gets murdered and soon Kit stands facing the step brother of Penny that have always tried to kill them since the first oath. When all seem too dark and impossible that's when usually the solution shows itself and Kit and Penny once more have to work together take down Marrick that now is in power and try to seperate them both. The final book in the series is filled with alot of twists and shocking moments that will make this final chapter to this amazing series put a person the edge of the seat until the very end! Highly recommended and such a great ending to the series! I want to say Thank You to both authors that let me read the entire series as ARC and cant wait to put the series on my shelve soon!

Penny and Kit return and soon after, Levitt is dead. Merrick becomes the leader and Kit is made Shroud Warden, threatened to behave on the lives he holds dear. In this final book, all seems perilous for them and the tension holds you in its grip. It's a harrowing story filled with violence, evil and terror but Penny and Kit's love sustains them and justice is theirs. It was a long adventure (4 books) but always held my interest and surprised me in the end. I received a copy of this and this is my voluntary opinion.

I was blessed to read an Advanced Reader Copy of Last Rites. All opinions are my own and freely given.
When Kit and Penny return to Ashpoint, they believe their path is clear. Their allies are numerous, and their plans are in place. But when their most important ally is killed, all hope seems lost. The Vessel is frighteningly close to being complete, and every day that passes is closer to the point of no return. As they complete the last two Oaths, Kit and Penny are pushed to their limits in strength, cunning, and morality. Choices are made that can't be taken back, and it rocks the very foundations of their relationship. But if there is anything that pushes them through, it is the faith and love they have for each other. The Bone Men might have brought out the very worst in them, but Kit and Penny's love and devotion to each other and their community is what would ultimately save them. They aren't the same people as they were when they first came to Ashpoint, but when all is said and done, Kit would do it all again - make every sacrifice and lay down his life - if it meant getting to keep Penny at the end. They've earned their happily ever after, and Kit and Penny intend to collect.
Ahh, this book was magnificent. I loved how everything came together. There were definitely points where I wasn't sure what would happen and how the boys would make it out of their predicaments. And I was half convinced nothing would happen when the Vessel was completed. Boy was I wrong! I am glad I was, because the ultimate message was much, much better.
I loved Kit and Penny in this book. While they definitely had some difficult obstacles to overcome, both physically and emotionally, they never gave up on each other. They loved each other so much that they would literally do anything for each other. Kit carried such an enormous mental weight through this book, but Penny was there to temper him. And then Kit was there to defend and protect Penny at every turn. I loved that, even when they were mad at each other, they couldn't stay away. Their love was true, and I am glad they got their happily ever after in the end.
I really enjoyed the plot of this book. It definitely took some unexpected twists and turns. The last two Oaths were terrible, and I definitely felt like Kit did through the execution of them. Plus with their initial plans going awry, I didn't know what to expect. I really loved how Paneus and Eeus played into everything. I wasn't expecting it to play out that way, but it was a nice surprise. I think it was proof of the goodness in Kit and Penny's hearts.
This book is definitely an emotional rollercoaster. I was heartbroken, rejoiced, and then devastated, all in turn. I cried at the end. Penny and Kit's sacrifices were worth it, but getting through it was rough on the heart. And then the very end was a well-earned HEA, which made me happy. You definitely get the full gambit in this book!
Overall, I loved this book and this series! It had many dark elements, but the romance was sweet, and it proves there is light in the darkness and not everything is what it appears to be. I will miss Kit and Penny's love and sweetness, but I am glad I got to witness their last rites in this book. Overall I give Last Rites 4.75/5 🌟 and the series as a whole 5/5 🌟.

Last Rites
A bittersweet ending that I didn’t see coming!! This book was everything I wanted in a finale and more! It was high stakes and I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next the whole way through!
Kit and Penny and their friends went through so many trials and this book was no different in fact it may have been the hardest one yet!
I loved the emotional rollercoaster and the edge of my seats moment that kept me glued to the pages late at night because I needed to know what happened next!
It was sad to see the series end but it was a satisfying ending that wrapped things up wonderfully!

You already know what I'm going to say. I love this series so so so much, and Kit and Penny stress me out like they're my own children. Dear god, can one (1) good thing happen to them without being immediately followed by the most horrific nightmare of all time? Something? Anything? Well, at least it's gotten us four books I suppose.
I stand by Levitt being my favorite character. As always, screw Anders (well, well, well...) and Rosie and Isla supremacy. Merrick...oooh. I have some choice words for HIM. How do two authors that are such wonderful people manage to create a character that makes me want to claw my skin off? He is, without a doubt, the most obnoxious, evil, piece of work villain I've ever read. Completely irredeemable (which I love, I want us to return to villains that are actually bad people) and a smug bastard to boot.
I cannot stress enough how this entire series is one good thing happening and then six awful things back to back. Only read it if you're prepared to be as stressed out as you've ever been in your entire life. I have a masters degree and my thesis defense was less stressful than reading these books. I say all this with love, of course, because the ending is such a gratifying moment.

I think we should bring back the deus ex machina as a plot device, it's so fun. Also, get f*cked, Merrick.

The secret resistance group has definitely grown while they were gone, but the absolute paranoia and rot inside the cult itself are reaching a terrifying boiling point. Then, a brutal, unexpected loss completely ruins their setup and leaves them both with huge targets on their backs, making them choose between saving their neck or saving the world.
To say I’m a bit emotional is a complete understatement because Kit and Penny have genuinely been through the absolute ringer across this entire series. What makes this one stand out is that it isn't just mindless high-octane action; the tension is kept so tight because they are stuck in this incredibly suffocating atmosphere where one wrong word means death. The pair do start keeping a few secrets from each other in a desperate bid to protect one another, which slows the pace down with some heavy introspection, but honestly, it works beautifully to balance out the high stakes and constant danger. Their ultimate, unwavering commitment to each other always shines through. The plot takes a sharp turn when Kit gets unexpectedly promoted to Shroud Warden, which completely throws a spanner in their original escape plans and forces a high-stakes gamble to bind a god and stop their world from plunging into total darkness. The pacing hits like a runaway train by the end, balancing pure emotional dread with beautiful moments of their found family coming together.
It’s an incredible, transportive book that delivers a properly shocking, highly emotional ending and a hard-earned happy ending that leaves you with a proper book hangover. If you’ve followed their journey from the start, this dark, gritty MM fantasy conclusion is an absolute must-read.

What makes this one stand out is that it isn't just mindless high-octane action; the tension is kept so tight because they are stuck in this incredibly suffocating atmosphere where one wrong word means death. The pair do start keeping a few secrets from each other in a desperate bid to protect one another, which slows the pace down with some heavy introspection, but honestly, it works beautifully to balance out the high stakes and constant danger. Their ultimate, unwavering commitment to each other always shines through. The plot takes a sharp turn when Kit gets unexpectedly promoted to Shroud Warden, which completely throws a spanner in their original escape plans and forces a high-stakes gamble to bind a god and stop their world from plunging into total darkness. The pacing hits like a runaway train by the end, balancing pure emotional dread with beautiful moments of their found family coming together.
It’s an incredible, transportive book that delivers a properly shocking, highly emotional ending and a hard-earned happy ending that leaves you with a proper book hangover. If you’ve followed their journey from the start, this dark, gritty MM fantasy conclusion is an absolute must-read.

I wanted the best from them and oh how they have suffered, but they have also loved and built a family all their own. I was absolutely mourning before I even got to the third chapter of this book because I will never get the honor of reading this series for the first time again (though I will undoubtedly be returning to reread it and shove it into the hands of every human who asks me for a book rec for the next… eternity?)
There was always only one way “out” of this horrible fraternity of sanctity-twisting, gruesome, power consuming Bone Men. And yet, because of the very community that it’s founded on, the community that was perverted, Penny and Kit might not have to find the end of things - maybe just a through.
The folks who scaffold their efforts, hold onto the flame of hope, offer their own sacrifices and their own futures, these folks make this book even more precious. So while you’re white-knuckling faith on behalf of Penny and Kit, you’re also holding on to these other beloved characters, too.
There is no doubt that the enduring messages of hanging onto beauty when it comes, settling into peace in the moments that follow devastation, and helping even when your help feels too small - they’re the kind of messages that do us all good to be reminded of. And it’s why books like this series will hang around in my mental bookshelf.

The time has come for the conclusion of the Bone Men series... I am both sad that it is ending, and happy that I've been able to go along for the journey and watch Kit & Penny find their happily ever after 🥹. And what a journey this was y'all... It's hard to write a review (or pick quotes) for a fourth book in a series without any spoilers but I will try my best!
One constant thought that circled in my head while reading this book was: WHAT IS GOING ON?!?! 😂
In the best way of course. This book kept me on my toes!
It broke my heart and built it back up again throughout all while telling the story of a constant love, found family in the darkest of times and learning to both forgive yourself and accept yourself. It's truly a beautiful journey and while my heart still aches, it's one I am so thrilled to be a part of 💜🫶.
Kit & Penny are such phenomenal characters. They are brave and vulnerable, they are flawed and make mistakes but still try their best to overcome and be better. They are characters that will stick with you for a long time to come.. I know they will be with me.. I want more 😂 I want to live as a fly on their wall and just watch them live a beautifully boring mundane life after all they've been through, but fear not! Tuma & Cameron end this series so well.. your heart will ache with the rightness of it all... I promise. Just trust the authors and the process, even as you curse their names along the way 😂👀 you two know what I'm talking about 🫣.
If you can't handle a series not being finished then this is your time to start with The Bone Men: First Oaths. I truly cannot recommend this series enough, it's such a cozy yet harrowing read and the love between these two men is truly phenomenal and so heartfelt 🥰.

Long story short: these two guys have been through it. Been to hell and back, through the wringer and keep coming back for more.
The two definitely have their work cut out for them, trying to dismantle a cult and create a resistance to take it down from the inside.
The stakes could not be higher, and their time is running out.
I knew that this book would be intense, but I don't think any of us were ready for just how intense it got.
I feel like for every good thing that happened, three bad things happened.
I also swear that my hatred for Merrick burned with the power of a thousand suns 😂 he was such a perfectly written irredeemable villain that really carried a lot of tension and friction in the story.
There were times where I just wanted to wrap the two MC's in bubble wrap and make sure they stayed safe. I also wanted to lecture them when they were being reckless. Is this what being a parent feels like? 😂
As sad as I am to let these two go, I really can't wait to see and read what CJ writes next 💖 the pace and story development of these four novels was excellent. I truly felt immersed in it. Also the balance of cosy but stressful is perfection *chef's kiss*

This is going to be a short review because I don't know how to talk about this book without spoiling the ending. Having said that, you want to know what I thought while reading this book?
Wow! Just.. wow. I have loved going on this dangerous and deadly journey with Penny and Kit, seeing them grow and flourish both as a couple and as individuals was truly beautiful. I loved seeing these men figure themselves out, and how they learned how to trust snd confide in each other and being each other's support when needed. Their journey wasn't easy, it was full of loss, betrayal, hardship, and more devastation than either man could've ever predicted, but gosh, was the ending beautiful. I think all that hardship is what made the ending so beautiful because it truly felt like a hard fought for happily ever after. After everything they went through, everything they lost, everything that got destroyed, they earned that happily ever after, they deserved it.
I thought all of these book were written exceptionally well, but this one was my favorite. There were so many surprises within this book that I loved discovering and learning about, it made all the build up in the previous books worth it. Those cliffhangers were brutal at times but that just made reading each addition that more enjoyable, and the same can be said about finally getting the ending Penny and Kit deserve.
All in all, the book was amazing! I'm sad this series is over, but I really loved how it ended.

Dearest Gentle Reader,
It’s almost unbelievable that this series has come to a conclusion. What an absolutely thrilling journey! Once again, I carved out an afternoon and locked in.
I knew this book would be the darkest in the series, but dear reader, I was unprepared for how dark it would actually get. This is by no means a criticism, but this book felt far different than the other three. Despite so much danger in every oath, there was always time for whimsy. Last Rites was so action packed, I felt on the edge of my seat nearly the entire book. I don’t think I’ve been this stressed for characters since that first season of Breaking Bad (iykyk) haha. Expect nothing truly whimsical in the mundane and nothing cozy this time around. The boys face their darkest challenges yet, and definitely do not come out unscathed.
A fair warning: don’t get too attached to any new characters. They will leave you far too soon, while others, *cough* Anders *cough* Merrick *cough* Violette far overstay their welcome.
I did feel like Cameron and Tuma leaned a bit too much into the “miscommunication” trope for my comfort, this time around; but I must say they certainly redeemed themselves in other areas.
I felt such deep heartbreak for my boys. It’s a testament to how talented these authors are, as I was blubbering through much of this book, suffering right alongside Penny and Kit. I just want them to be happy and not struggle any longer!
I GENUINELY thought The Militia would pull a Deus Ex Machina and save Penny at the last moment! I kept thinking, “please don’t make me root for the fucking police.” Cameron and Tuma instead executed a brilliant save! I didn’t expect this story to take such a fantastical turn, but I’m glad it did! I suppose a literal Deus Ex Machina WAS utilized during this book, now that I think of it. Absolutely brilliant.
Gosh, I really enjoyed this series. The writing is so lovely and engaging. Penny and Kit earn their HARD won victory with literal blood, sweat, and tears. I’m quite satisfied with how this series ended. If you’ve enjoyed any of these books this far, dear reader, you will LOVE how this one ends. Truly satisfying.

Can’t believe I am this emotional over a series I started not even a month ago and had to wait only a few weeks to read the last one… cause now I have read it and I wish I could go back just so I can experience this story for the first time again, no breaks, no pauses, just Kit and Penwood and the bone men cult.
They finally got their happy ending and even tho they were very happy together even with threats and sacrifices and pain lurking and attacking them constantly, it’s so emotional to see them now get their happy ending without that. Now they will be forever happy just the two of them and the community they build, even with the memories and marks of the past, there is nothing more than Kit and Penny wanted than to be happy.
And even tho their love is always ALWAYS there I have to say I feared for it in chapter 23 and seeing them go through the peak of horrors. But when they found comfort again in each other even tho Penny was so hurt… oh it made me add this to the list of things I want in my future partner. The ability to have me even in pain.
I loved this book so much and they were able to pull something I really thought would not happen or if happened, would just make the story weird… I think it was the best thing they did!

Merrick, as per usual, brings the drama, but somehow he becomes even more vile in this book. Unfathomably so at times. With Klaus and Violette doing his dirty work, his reach is everywhere—including between Kit and Penny, causing more fighting than I ever want to see from my boys.
Thankfully, they kiss and make up, and it is about as adorable—and hot—as these two have ever been.

What an amazing end to an amazing series! I didn’t want to it be over but at the same time I was SO ready for Penny and Kit’s hea, my gods they earned it 🥲
I mean I’m so emotionally invested at this point, I just flew through this book. It was so well written and easy to read. Most of the time I was absolutely shook but it had my attention from the get go.
I felt like Penny and Kit’s character development was perfect. Penny didn’t all of a sudden change personalities and I loved that he stayed himself but was so much stronger after all they’d been through. Kit finally accepting that he doesn’t have to do everything by himself and is worthy of a happy life 🥹
It was an absolute ride, I didn’t know who to trust, I was questioning everything and felt everything they did and more. It was heartbreaking, tense, exciting, everything I could ask for.
I had such a good time reading these books, the authors have written such a beautiful, and at times tragic, series and created a world you can just lose yourself in.

I have been on the ARC team since the first book, and have been hooked since the beginning! In Last Rites, we are with the same resistance crew from the previous book, but we are also introduced to some new characters that want to help Kit and Penny.
I think I felt every single emotion possible while reading this book: stress, sadness, joy, hope, horror, disbelief. But through it all, I never stopped feeling the love between Kit and Penny. They care for each other so much, and their main goal is protecting each other. You see this so much throughout the series, but it is in this last book even more.
This is the final book in Kit and Penny’s journey, and I couldn’t have asked for a better ending. It’s been 4 books in the making, and they just kept getting better as the stakes got higher. last half of the book kept me completely on my toes, and there were so many moments when I was convinced there was no way we would get a happy and satisfying ending. But somehow, it all came together in the most perfect way! I am so incredibly happy I read this series!

Spring planting and their small reprieve from the Bone Men is over and now Kit and Penny are to return to Ashpoint to try and finish their mission to destroy the cult. However, Kit and Penny are not on the same page as to how to accomplish their plans, especially once Kit is unexpectedly promoted to Shroud Warden.
This finale was worth the wait, with Kit and Penny still surrounded by supportive friends and family, but danger always hovering which kept the suspense tight. There was quite a bit of introspection where Kit and Penny were not communicating their thoughts and fears which was frustrating at times, but they still were fully and forever committed to each other and in love which I really enjoyed. The ending was a little bit of a surprise and not but thoroughly emotional and a really good ending to this entertaining series. 4.25

What an ending!
This book kicks off right where book 3 left us (seriously, what was that, Kit…? 🙄😅).
Of all four books, this one felt to be the highest stakes. The plot in this one had more twists, turns, and edge-of-your-seat moments as the tension between Kit, Penny and Merrick that has been building since book one when he took…
(spoiler for book 1, but not a spoiler at this point)
… their dad’s bones finally — and dramatically — comes to a head.
While all of that is true, it stays very true to the cozy, slow pace the series has used to date. TBH, the stakes feel pointedly lower when broken up with scenes of Penny baking pastries and using the word “lumbering” incorrectly.
All this is to say basically, that if you’re here for the cozy vibes, you’re still in the right place despite the notable shift in plot action.
This series was a joy to read on so many levels. Thank you to the authors for the advanced reader copies, and I can’t wait to see what you two do next!

What an incredible way to finish this series! This final book had me completely on edge, with the danger and tension turned up to the highest level. There were so many moments where I had no idea how things were going to unfold, and the emotional stakes made everything feel even more intense.
Kit and Penny remain one of my favourite things about this series. Even when they were pushed to their limits and found themselves on opposite sides of difficult choices, their love and trust in each other never disappeared. I really appreciated how much they had grown together without falling into the usual unnecessary misunderstandings.
The whole series has built so beautifully towards this point, and I loved seeing the mysteries surrounding the cult and the Gods finally come together. Dark, gripping and surprisingly emotional, with an ending that felt absolutely right. A fantastic conclusion to a truly unique series!
Kit and Penny remain one of my favourite things about this series. I love this series. It will forever hold a special place in my bones (lol). I am distraught that it is over and I am begging you to read it. Kit and Penny are one of my most favorite fictional couples of all time. This book was cozy and culty and creepy and crushing and just perfect. Perfect I say.
I will miss my Bone Men (the good ones not any of the fucking asshole ones whom I loathe more than anything and wish were real just so I could kick them between the legs). This is a series I will be rereading.
PS: wear waterproof mascara and bring tissues for this one. You will need it.

It’s been quite a journey into the cozy cult. There are characters I’ve grown very fond of, and others—especially one,who’s been the complete opposite. Well, I think he’s the one everyone dislikes.
The book picks up right where the previous one left off: they manage to reunite in Ashpoint, thinking they have a clear path to carry out their revolution, but things go wrong right away. They're facing an almost impossible situation that's even putting their relationship at risk.
I really loved this book series; I can't wait to see what the authors have in store for us next.

4.5 ⭐️This has been a series unlike any I’ve read and i am blown away by these authors ability to build this intricate world and immerse us fully in it, the characters are sublime, soeciallly Kit and Penny, which if you’ve reached this 4th and final instalment in the series you would already know.
This one is a tough one to review without giving anything away but i wanna tell you how this book made me feel - swept away, omg satisfying conclusion, jaw dropping twists and turns, no mercy - just when you relax your guard - bam!! Oh and the romantic swoony relationship development - absolutelyfabtatstic.

What a conclusion to this series!
The Bone Men has kept me on my toes through every book, wondering how there was going to be a way out for Kit and Penny. Things really came to a head here, with attempted escapes, foiled destructions, and trying to sway others, all while under the thumb of evil. Last Rites was pretty action-packed, but still full of connection between these two and the other characters. The combination of romance, fantasy, mystery, and dark fiction really works well here and is unlike many other series. I'm always enjoying the interspersed light moments of baking and kittens too. This was truly an epic culmination of all the books.
