The subject of origins has always been a controversial issue. How and when did life begin? Was it a result of random chance processes over millions of years of time or was life designed by a Creator. The controversy surrounding the origin and history of life has triggered heated debate between supporters of the two opposing views… Creation and Evolution. Evolutionists claim their beliefs are scientific and accurate, proclaiming their theory as an indisputable fact. Creationists maintain their perspective is logical and can be supported by the observable evidence. Is it really possible to know which of these two models is correct? Is there a test which can be made to examine the credibility of a theory? The Evidence for Creation examines the fundamental principles of the evolution and creation models and tests them against the observable evidence.
The issue with this book is that it presents its arguments on a scientific basis when its aims and values are vastly different. The authors assert this in the introduction: "A person who accepts the evolution premise as valid can not be convinced through intellectual reasoning that he is wrong. Only the Spirit of God can open the mind of one who is spiritually blind."
In the first chapter: "The creation model is claimed to be a revelation given to man by God the Creator… A creationist is a person who is willing to accept that the biblical account of origins and the history of the earth is acurate[sic] and reliable." In other words, their frame of reference is not objective as in science, where theories seek to explain observations, but instead subjective to Christianity–observations are moulded to fit the biblical theory, or cast aside when they do not.
A strong example of this is in chapter 1.4. The Creation Day. This chapter explores the Day-Age Theory, which was developed to explain evolution and the geological time scale it took place on according to the creation days in the first chapter of Genesis. They list the contradictions:
"1. The Bible states all plant life came into existence on the third day of creation, but fish and marine organisms were created on the fifth day. The geological theory of the origin and progression of life reverses this order. … 4. The Bible indicates insects were among the last things created, coming on the scene at the same time as land animals and reptiles. According to evolutionary geology, insects appeared early in the geological record preceding the appearance of reptiles and land animals."
But their conclusions on the disconnect are not that there might be error in the Bible. Instead, it is that we have not got the scientific knowledge to explain the Bible: "The processes used by God in this creative act are no longer in action and therefore can not be studied in terms of the various physical laws as we understand them today."
In science, a theory is considered invalid if there is just one contradictory observation. Furthermore, discarding observations because they do not fit a conclusion is non-scientific. This is not a book for agnostics and atheists trying to understand the creation model. It cannot even be considered a scientific book with ""sound" and "logical" explanations. Instead, it is a book based on bad arguments used to reinforce people's existing beliefs.
It was interesting to see some different prospective about the creation of the world. A con for me was that the book is a little bit old (its 2019 now) and the evidence written may not be up to date. Nevertheless, I liked reading it and it definitely made me think and question everything around us.
The Evidence for Creation is a very good overview of the argument for a creation as opposed to evolution. The book gives a ton of evidence that that shows how science supports the biblical account of creation.
It is very interesting that the theory (not fact) of evolution has become the view of the sophisticated, educated side, while the biblical view is perceived as faith-based with no connection to science. The evidence in this book shows several aspects of the evolutionist argument that are fatally flawed. All of the dating methods that date the earth as being millions or billions of years old operate with the presupposition that evolution is true. Evolution relies on the assumption that life was made from no life, something that has never been accomplished by the most ingenious geneticists. There are no missing links between the old and new life forms. The fossil record does not show simple moving to complex. The theory that by random chance chaos can be turned to order, simple can be changed to complex, is actually the complete opposite of scientific.
I would recommend this book for any Christian who is trying to figure out why the Bible doesn't agree with science. The evidence shows clearly that the science can be explained much more satisfactorily by the biblical account than by any theories that evolutionists propose. I would also recommend this book to students of science who have been taught to believe that evolution is an established scientific fact. You will soon see, if you are a seeker of truth, that evolution is the farthest thing from it.
