Juliana Wight is a Scottish-American author of Scottish Romance books. She started writing when she was still a teenager, and after a fateful night with her father, she decided that all she wanted to focus on was narrating stories around the beauty of the Scottish Highlands.
The reviews that she receives praise the development of her characters, the plot twists in her novels, and the beautiful scenery of Scotland.
She lives in Boston, Massachusetts with her husband, Jonathan, and her daughter. Before Juliana started publishing her novels she worked as an HR in a company. While she enjoyed her previous job, it was a dream come true to become an author and she would do anything to achieve that.
“If ye step any closer to that bed, lass, I cannae promise restraint.” That quote from the blurb is what got me interested, but guess what? He NEVER says that! I even did a word search on my Kindle to be sure. LOL, i feel duped. A lot of the blurb is misleading, so readers beware.
There's the potential for a really good story in this book, but the writing style just doesn't work for me. I struggled getting into it and was bored for most of it. The characters were wooden and very matter of fact. No real emotion could get me invested in the characters. Wasn't a huge fan of the FMC either, especially her TSTL moment towards the end. New author for me, don't think I'll read more.
I enjoyed the characters. The FMC was aware of her worth as a tradesperson and negotiator, but had often been seen by men (especially) as out of place and less than her father, who she was representing in negotiations.
The MMC had inherited the leadership of the clan, but had closed off his life to anything other than supporting the welfare of the clan, after watching his father nearly destroy their holdings after the death of his wife.
A neighbouring clan was trying to expand their rights and access to trade routes, and determined that a marriage between them would be advantageous. In the interim, they launched attacks on trading vessels and port communities to make it seem like it was even more necessary. One of these attacks involved a boat with the FMC, on the way to negotiate a trade deal.
The boat was rescued, and the FMC was brought back to the castle for protection.
As they negotiate the trade deal and their growing affection for each other, conspiracies and tense situations occur.
Lilliana was travelling to the Hebrides in her father's place,to negotiate a trade deal with Laird Mackay, that would save her family's business. The birlin she was on was attacked by another clan, determined to cause trouble for Laird she hope to trade with.. To her rescue comes none other than the powerful Laird Mackay, the very man she needs to make the deal with, and so begins her extended stay due to the attacks against his clan.
That's when this slow burn romance begins ....I really liked both the MMC and the FMC , Juliana wrote them so beautifully.. I just love their story..5*+
I really enjoyed this book. It had all the feels of a Scottish romance. It was a nice change to not have as much violence as others usually do. I also liked how Lillian had smarts and spunk to stand up to men that would always belittle women. I recommend it for an in between book to clear a series out.
A really exciting and interesting adventure. The characters were incredibly brave and very cunning. Glad Lillian had a very sharp mind and Ewan was smart enough to see it! The rescue was amazing! Thanks for sharing your adventure!!!
This was a very good book. It was well written. Ewan was a good Laird and protector and Lillan was a strong woman with family values. They had adventures and fighting for what was right.
