gives insight into the life of Rick Warren. the author says he him self is not a very spiritual person and is not well studied in the scriptures. he is very impressed by Rick Warren and his "ministry". the book reviles that the goal of Rick Warren was not to serve the lord where he leads but to make a Mega Church. that explains a lot about the whole movement. don't get me wrong, God surely works through them as they teach the bible to some degree. however I think that Rick Warren leaves out a lot of important doctrine to not offend. his book purpose driven life is well written and deals with a lot of good doctrine however it leaves out repentance. to his eternal shame he short circuits the gospel in his book. a new edition adding a chapter on repentance would make that a good book I could recommend. God is working on all of us and I pray that what is lacking in Rick warren and his ministry would be strengthened and the whole council of God would be proclaimed. This book is a good look at the man behind the movement. Sadly the things that impressed the author are the weaknesses and compromise that warren has made. Let us never forget it is God who builds his church not programs.

THis is not the the multi-million dollar copy "Purpose Driven LIfe" that caught on Fire with churches back in 2003-2004 (I remember going through this book during my residency at our church small group in Portland). No this is a biography of the author of that book Rick Warren.

Do you know how Purpose driven life began.....It's not about you... the anti self-help book.

Rick Warren is a fascinating pastor...unassuming (wears hawaian shirts to preach), generous (he reverse tithes 90% to the church and only keeps 10% of his book profits..he has repaid all of his salary back to his church), cooperative (he will work with anybody right or left to help with the causes he supports)...a little controversial (famous for nudging Obama to say that determining when life begins was "above his pay grade"??).

This book was bland, uninspiring, and a weak portrayal of such an interesting Christian leader. Thumbs down, 1 star..don't waste your time on this book. It wasn't worth the two dollars I bought it for at the going out of business Hastings on Tramway.

This book was not well written but I picked it up because I was curious about the life of Rick Warren. I was glad to read that he ducks the spotlight and rarely grants t.v. interviews. In this sense he has built up his church and not himself to some degree. His goal early in his career was to grow a megachurch and he has succeeded. Saddleback Community Church in California has 16,000 members. Though I don't necessarily agree with his theological teachings or philosophy, I give him much credit as he really is a visionary that makes things happen.
