"சாவு சோறு" - இமையம்

விளிம்பு நிலை மக்களின் வலி, துயரம், துக்கம், அழுகை, அரற்றல், புலம்பல், கேலி ஏச்சு பேச்சுக்களென நிறைந்த கதைகளின் தொகுப்பு. கண்முன் காட்சிப்படுத்தும் எழுத்துநடை, கதைகளின் களத்துக்கே அழைத்துச்செல்கிறது. போலவே அதன் தாக்கத்தையும் வாசிப்பவருக்குள் கடத்துகிறது.
கதைகள் பற்றி...
"சாவு சோறு" - பூங்கோதை எனும் தாய், தனது படித்த மகள், சாதி மாறி போட்டோ பிடிப்பவனுடன் ஓடிபோனதையறிந்து, ஒவ்வொரு பள்ளியாக அலைகிறாள், அவள் ஆசரியையாகியிருப்பாள் என்று. அவளது புலம்பலும், அரற்றலும்தான் இக்கதை.
"திருட்டு பொண்ணு" - சிறுவயதில் தவறுதலாக கடத்தபட்ட பெண்ணிடம், அவள் பெயர்க்காரணம் அறிய அவளிடம் உரையாடல் நிகழ்த்தும் விதமான கதை. திருடு போன அப்பெண், அவள் திருமணமாகமலே முதியவளான சோகத்தை
சொல்லும் கதை.
"ஆகாசத்தின் உத்தரவு" - ஒரு திருடன் தன் தொழில் நிமித்தம் அவனுடைய குலதெய்வத்திடம் புலம்புவதும், உத்தரவு கேட்பதுமான கதை.
"அரசாங்க பள்ளிக்கூடம்" - அரசாங்க பள்ளிக்கூடத்தில் படிக்கும் தனது மகள் செய்த தவறுக்கு, ஆசிரியரிடமும், தலைமையாசிரியரிடமும் சண்டைக்கு நிற்கும் பெண்ணின் கதை. அவளது துடுக்குத்தனத்துடன் கூடிய எதார்த்த பேச்சும், அதனூடாக அவள் சொல்லும் அவளது தினக்கூலி வாழ்வும் நிறைந்த உரையாடல் கதை.
"பரிசு" - ஓய்வு பெற்ற வாத்தியார், தனது சோம்பேறி மகனும், வாயாடி மருமகளும் தன்னை பணத்திற்கு மட்டும் பயன்படுத்திக்கொள்வதையும், அவரது அண்ணன் மகள் அவருக்கு ஆறுதலாய் இருப்பதையும் செல்லும் கதை. விவசாயத்தை பார்க்கும் அப்பெரியவரின் எண்ணவோட்டம் 'கனம்' என்றால், கதையின் முடிவு அதைவிட 'அதிக கனம்'.
"பத்தினி இலை" - தன்னை காதலித்து ஏமாற்றியதால் இறந்துபடுகிறாள் ஒருவள். ஏமாற்றியவனின் மனைவியின் உடலில் பேயாக இறங்கி, அமர்களப்படுத்துகிறாள் அப்பெண். பேயோட்டும் நிகழ்வாலும், அதனூடாக அக்களத்தின் மக்கள் உரையாடலையும் சொல்லும் கதை.
"பேராசை" - அழகான, வசதியான மணமகன் என்றாலும், கழிப்பறை இல்லாத வீட்டுக்கு வாக்கப்படமாட்டேன் என்ற, நான்கு பெண்கள் கொண்ட வீட்டின் மூத்த பெண் பற்றிய கதை. தட்டி கழித்தே வந்தவள், தானாக விரும்பி, பட்டணத்து வழுக்கை தலை மாப்பிள்ளைக்கு வாக்குப்பட்டு செல்கிறாள்., பட்டணத்தில் அவள் விரும்பிய கழிப்பறை கிடைத்ததா? என்பதை பேராசையின் முடிவு சொல்லும்.
"ராணியின் காதல்" - தனது பால்ய கால காதலியை, பலவருடம் கழித்து ஆசையாக சந்திக்கபோனவன், அவளது குடும்பத்தின் நிலைபொருட்டு பணம்தேடும் நிலைகண்டு, நெஞ்சில் சம்மட்டி இடிவாங்கி ஓடிவந்த கதை.
"வரம்" - பன்னிரெண்டாம் வகுப்பு படித்த மகள், பெரியப்பா மகனுடன் ஓடிவிட்டாள் என அறிந்த தாய், தனது புலம்பலை கடவுளிடம் முறையிடும் கதை.

என்னமோ ஓலக அதிசயமா நான் மட்டுந்தான் அடுத்தவனைக் கெடுக்குறதுக்கு வேண்டுறன்னு நினைக்காத. எவன் வந்து 'எனக்கு அடுத்தவனக் கெடுக்காத மனசக் கொடு, அடுத்தவன் பொருளுமேல ஆசப்படாத மனசக் கொடு, அடுத்தவனப் பாத்துப் பொறாமப்படாத, அடுத்தவன் பொண்டாட்டிய பாத்து ஆசைப்படாத மனசக் கொடு. என்னிக்கும் என்னே ஏழயாவே, பிச்சக்காரனவே வச்சியிரு'ன்னு வேண்டுனவன் யாரு? கூர வூட்டுலியே என்னே வச்சியிருன்னு சொன்னவன் யாரு?

Imayam is impeccable!
He deserves more laurels.
This Tamil short story collection of his is the portrayal of simple people who have no big ambitions. Their strive is just to make ends meet.
The nuances and intricacies about the character's desire, anger, pain and bliss, that are entwined in the plot are incredible. The simplicity of the characters, the resilience that propels them forward is very arresting. Their very perception towards love, life, god, commitment towards their family, society and to their deities seem fearless, genuine and raw. No modern ideas like identity, relevance, freedom and independence, yet it makes such profound sense!

Imayam is a great writer for short stories. i generally feel that he depicts the real life observations with a modern narration.
