It’s a good thing I’ve sworn off men, because Old Me would have taken one look at my new boss, and spontaneous heat would have been a real threat.

He’s an alpha and an English nobleman. A mannered man who employed me to restore the library at Beaumont Craven House. He’s impossibly attractive and also straight up impossible. He’s hard to draw out, quiet and broody. His behavior often as confusing as it is mysterious.

Unfortunately for me he has a sweet side I find impossible to resist.

It isn’t long before the Lord’s sad backstory has me going well above and beyond the requirements of my job description.

It’s fine though. It’s a casual arrangement, and I can keep things casual. I definitely can.

It’s just that my body – and heart – don’t seem to agree.

Born Wild is a contemporary MM omegaverse featuring a positively intoxicating alpha, an omega who might have let books like Wuthering Heights and The Secret Garden go to his head, and a swoony love story that will leave you convinced that sometimes fate decides who we love.

I'm Jesse, and I write contemporary and paranormal MM romance.

Whether my characters are born magical, or whether magic is something they make between the sheets, I strive to take the reader into the mind of the narrator. My ultimate goal is to leave the reader feeling like they’ve made a new friend or have spent a few hours flirting with a brand-new book boyfriend.

I love coffee, chocolate and daydreaming, in no particular order. I love conflicted characters, lust at first sight and angst – no seriously, ALL the angst. Give it to me!

An old Manor House in the Yorkshire Moors, a grand library that’s falling apart - and a beautiful Lord Alpha who’s mysterious, if not slightly off.

Add in forced proximity, a sassy, sure-of-himself omega, a bit of fake dating and heaps of very playful and entertaining primal play? Ohohooo, yes please!

Set in a strange, messy but weirdly compelling mix of modern-day omegaverse, old aristocratic traditions and full-on gothic romance vibes, this felt like Bridgerton collided headfirst with Wuthering Heights and once I stopped questioning the logistics and just went with the flow, I had a blast 😍

The story follows omega librarian Jensen, who’s hired to restore the decaying library at Beaumont Craven House, where he quickly finds himself tangled up with the hella mysterious Lord Alpha Alfie.

I really enjoyed the omegaverse lore the author built here. Every omegaverse seems to create its own little ecosystem and it wasn’t any different here - but I genuinely liked some of the twists on classic elements, especially the reveal surrounding Alfie’s secret! And Alfie in general: loved him and that underneath all his detached, cold ways actually lay an utter Romantic with a capital R! 🫠

Expect the usual JHR ott dramatic writing - especially the sex scenes, holy hell 🤣 - but I was in the mood for that so I was vibing!

Also: I haven’t read book 1 (good choice on my part I think) and I had no trouble reading this as a standalone!

So yeah, I had a very entertaining, swoony time - made even better due to the impromptu BR with the lovely Patrícia 🧡 - even if I did skim a bit of the sex at the end there! ✨

“Alfie,” says a small voice from under a shroud of waxed cotton. “You were wrong.”
“Wrong about what?” I ask, amused that he’d choose now, of all times, to point out my failings.
“You were so wrong.” Hands tug gently at my collar, opening it, and a sweet, lovely face nuzzles into my neck. “You don’t smell like sex.”
“Oh no?” […] “What do I smell like then?”
“You smell”—he inhales and hums dreamily—“like home.” 🥹😌

DNF 70%. This one just isn’t for me.

Some of the trouble with this story is that the reader must believe/accept/ understand/empathize that MC Jensen is a martyr who’s been hard done by both alphas and his best omega friend-slash-former boyfriend without having enough (or any) context as to why, not one specific anecdote about why alphas are untrustworthy/rotten, and no details of why he and said bestie broke up years ago.

Basically, lack of specific context/motivation makes omega Jensen look like a judgmental self-absorbed jerk who makes sweeping negative assumptions about the other MC, alpha Alfred, without knowing anything about Alfred apart from he’s a rich alpha.

But because he’s an alpha, he must be…what? I don’t know, because there is no context for why alphas are…dangerous? Untrustworthy? Evil? Oppressors? Vile seducers? And no motivation revealed for why Jensen is so anti-alpha that he’s on suppressants to keep them away/unaware of him. I think Lucien revealed something in book 1, but that was so many books ago I didn’t retain it. I think the two bffs/ex-boyfriends had some kind of anti-alpha pact???

This should have been such a cute read, and you can read my real-time Reading Progress rundown for my reactions; I don’t have the energy to analyze it all again. But I was left confused, baffled, whiplashed, feeling jerked-around, and yes, many times, entertained, by this weirdly underdeveloped story that would have benefitted from having equal page time for both MCs’ points of view rather than relying so much on the inadequate (but I think supposed to be cute??) and ofttimes insufferable Jensen points of view to relay the story. Alfie’s points of view were a much needed, few and far between breath of fresh air amongst Jensen’s prejudiced and leaning into narcissistic attitude.

Jensen has a good moment or two, but mostly? He’s as unlikeable in his own way as Lucien was in book 1. Another omega who—oh, noes—does not want to be oppressed by evil selfish alphas and takes suppressants to keep them at bay and disdains them…without any context as to why…and we’re supposed to empathize with him. 🧐 Oh, and, he knows he’s good-looking and can’t understand why the alpha hero who is his boss doesn’t seem to notice him. 🫩

Despite my continued irritation with Jensen, I had some good times reading this book. It has a great setup…forlorn, sad omega seeking time away from his omega best friend/ex and alpha older brother, who just mated, who finds refuge organizing a rich lord’s library on a vast estate in England. Ooooh! Right up my alley.

(It’s never established what qualifies Jensen to do this, or how it came about that Lord Alfred hired him. I put it together that Jensen is a librarian, because there is a vague reference to “the last librarian,” but, his career and personal background is never clarified. 🧐)

There’s a creative, unique situation with Alfred regarding the kind of alpha he is, and that I was into. Cue all these local omegas showing up having midnight vapors over this mysteriously unscented and unusually dazed and taciturn alpha, it’s all very Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre in atmosphere, with English moors and dark and stormy nights, and then an actually clever fake relationship scheme that magically (really not sure why, physically, given J and A aren’t biologically bonded and don’t have each other’s scents) that makes all the obsessed omegas become un-obsessed, and it could have been a whirlwind winner of a tale. But Jensen annoyed me and contradicted himself so much, or summarized Stuff that happened by Telling us all about it, that any time I got to a strong part, it was so often buried in his nonsense that I could barely smile and enjoy it before my eyes were rolling out of my head again.

Okay. Good things:
Alfred’s HORSE!!! Oh my gosh, Gregory is amazing, and Alfred’s way with him had this horse-person’s heart enthralled.

The fake-relationship element felt organic and helpful to the situation, rather than contrived, silly, and unnecessary, and I enjoyed it.

Alfred’s points of view, especially the midpoint chapter that finally added substance to the story. We needed more of them!

Jensen comfort-nesting. Awww.

The time Jensen quizzes Alfred about books and finds out he really does love them.

Otherwise, I read a different book from most readers. 😞 I got to 70%, after a fun masquerade followed by a serious question followed by such a turn in attitude with Jensen that came from nowhere (he goes from realizing he actually likes Alfred to suddenly needing to go home and I again had whiplash and didn’t follow the abrupt transition in emotions…for the last time.) and realized I just did not care. I’m not rooting for them. I really like Alfred, and love the mythology around the necklaces, and the setting, and…I just do not care at all if Alfred and Jensen get together.

Oh well. Me. Go figure. Take it with all the grains of salt. I was entertained here and there. I blame Jensen. I did not empathize with or care for him; he lost me early and was nowhere near fascinating enough to make up for his insufferableness.

HEA. Omegaverse, with not-well-defined rules, but one creative and fun twist for the alpha that I truly enjoyed. Boss-employee, lord-commoner romance. Mysteriously unscented alpha. Alpha-avoidant omega. No OM action. OM drama from myriad local omegas that Alfred somehow mesmerized (part of the mystery) into thinking they cannot exist without him. And minor melodrama due to Jensen’s snit over his best friend/former boyfriend having mated and fallen in love with Jensen’s older brother. Safe enough for me. I don’t rec this series though, the author’s other books are far more engaging. For me anyway. I don’t not rec it either; if it sounds interesting, hey, most people seem to love it!
I far prefer Jesse H. Reign’s contemporary romances. Something about her omega-alpha dynamic is off and makes the omega characters read as judgmental, self-absorbed prats.

This was soooo different from Gone Wild!
And not only in the way romance unfolded, but also in the setting, in the overall vibes, but I loved in nonetheless 🩵
There is something so beautiful about Jesse’s writing, I love it in all her books, and here it felt even more poetic 🥰

“When our lips find each other, it’s not a kiss we fall into so much as a kiss that falls into us.”

The slow burn here felt like two soulmates finding their way to each other, not at all like two people brought together by the circumstances. And because of that their HEA felt really earned and satisfying.

Jensen is such a precious baby, hilarious, intelligent, but so vulnerable under all that.
That nest of his was just 💔
And mysterious alpha Alfie, god, how many times my heart was breaking for him 🥺

“When I closed my eyes while you were reading, I felt like I was flying.”

This book had everything, the top tier romantic setting and atmosphere, beauty-and-the-beast worthy library, the tension that grows, soulmates, dramatic rescue mission, hilarious moments and ridiculously hot scenes ❤‍🔥

Jensen is 27 and an omega. His best friend and ex-boyfriend just mated Jensen's brother, and he's upset about it, not because he has romantic feelings for Lucien though. He has taken a job in England on a private estate to organize the library, to get his distance. His boss is literally a reclusive Lord and Jensen's fanciful nature is intrigued and he's attracted.

Alfie, the lord, is 38 and an alpha. He is a special type of alpha that makes all omegas think he is their mate. He is a romantic and he wants to find his mate, but he got tired of hurting people, so he has gone on suppressants so that he doesn't hurt anyone else.

For a number of weeks, they barely spend any time together, but they are both intrigued and enjoy what time they do spend together. Jensen goes from being on his best reserved behavior to letting his crazy fly free and Alfie is definitely entertained. They realize they have a love of books in common. Jensen offers to fake date Alfie so that people think he's taken and leave him alone. But then Alfie offers to give Jensen sexual favors to make things up to him for what Jensen has been doing for him. And of course Jensen gives in. But then there's some drama about whether Alfie is going to go off of his suppressants, whether they could really be mates, that has Jensen almost giving up on them.

This was a really enjoyable romp of a story. There was a lot of humour to it. Jensen's mind was a hilarious place. I loved the love of books in this story. There are definitely some moments that will make book lovers swoon, very relatable moments.

Page 74 - anyone else feel cheated that we didn't get to see Jensen's epic word vomit? We just got the last couple words. I would have applauded 10 pages of that word vomit, it would have been wild and fun.

My biggest complaint... Jensen is American and not nobility, but his internal monologues are very very British and are giving high faluting nobility vibes. That annoyed me.

I disliked the lore of the mating necklaces. It feels so preplanned and it doesn't fit in to me... Mating occurs during moments of passion, which should be more impulsive and less scripted. And why put something on that will be a restrictive obstacle that must be ripped off for the mating bite? Omegas get sensitive to light and temperature and all this other stuff in this world the author built, you would think that something restrictive around their neck would be abhorrent. It seems like it belongs more during a ceremonial wedding rather than a mating

Some notable moments:

"I swear to God, I think this man might mean it. I think he’s seriously standing in my hallway, in a velvet dinner jacket no less, with twigs from a conifer hedge stuck in his hair, offering to pummel my prostate because I happen to be sleeping under his roof. And you know what, when I think about it, he bloody well should. I’ve gone above and beyond the scope of my job description big time tonight. I’ve put on a spectacular performance, I’ve chased away obsessed omegas left, right, and center, and I’ve dealt with their awful families as decisively. He’s absolutely goddamn right that I should get a reward."

"Since then, he’s wrapped me in a pile of blankets and has made me drink so much tea that if I’m forced to have any more, my treatment will almost certainly meet the definition of waterboarding, despite how well-intentioned."

"Alfie did a one-eighty immediately, his cheeks pinkening with pleasure as he pulled me onto his lap and clutched me to his chest like a much-loved toy. “You think we’re highly compatible?” he cried. “Oh, thank you. That’s so nice to hear. We think we’re compatible too, but it’s so reassuring to hear it from a medical professional.”"

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

Born Wild by Jesse H. Reign, the second book in the Wild Hearts series, was another absolute addiction for me. I completely devoured this book and couldn’t put it down.

Just like with the first book in the series, Jesse H. Reign hooks you from the very first page, even though this one feels very different in atmosphere, aesthetics and slow burn, it still has that special magic that keeps you completely obsessed.

The story follows Alfie, a mysterious English noble alpha, and his employee Jensen, a hopeless romantic, classic literature lover and total bookworm, who gets hired to restore the library at the House.

Their dynamic was everything to me.
The romance develops slowly and beautifully, in such a natural and satisfying way. You can feel these two soulmates finding each other piece by piece throughout the story.

I also absolutely loved the Wuthering Heights vibes and all the references inspired by classic literature. The whole book feels elegant, melancholic and slightly gothic in the best possible way.

Of course, it’s all wrapped in Jesse H. Reign’s signature lyrical and poetic writing style, while still giving us humor, tension, amazing chemistry, spicy moments and a truly beautiful romance.

That was surprisingly fun. After the first of the series, I was pretty much expecting to be disappointed. Maybe that was helpful? Because this is total fluff written for the heart of every reader of old school romantic British fiction. Bring on your Mr Darcy, Heathcliff, Mr Rochester and whatever broody historical romance hero you like, Alfie is the stand in for them all, just as Jensen is the proxy for all us heart eyed book nerds who wished to swan out into self confidence as we age. I had so much fun reading this despite being on my second cold in less than a month. And unlike the first book, the emphasis was on the slow build up of the relationship, or whatever can pass for slow burn in an ABO/heat-destined romance.

Still, I don’t quite understand the titles? Wild I guess relating to the primal play in this episode, but what it has to do with the tone of the series is beyond me as it’s a kinda silly, light hearted series about very urban feeling characters. Sure, the ABO stuff—I guess that’s wild??

And I can’t help myself when I read a book that is in an alternate universe but that is exactly like our universe but different. My inner nerd just won’t shut up about how if things were really different, then there wouldn’t be the same pop culture references and history and all that because you know, butterfly wings and all that.

But! Still fun. If you’re into cozy/fluffy MM ABO modern contemporary romances.

(And if there were a Jane Austen in this universe, would she be an Alpha writing about how challenging it is to be a female alpha or an omega? Was Elizabeth the alpha and Darcy the omega? What about the Brontë sisters? Oh, Emily was totally an alpha, wasn’t she… Jane Eyre was and will always be an omega in any universe though. Poor Jane.)

3.5 stars, rounded up. I feel a bit let down after the wild eroticism of the first book. Whereas that was a crazy smutfest, this book has a far more romantic bent. It's kind a tongue-in-cheek gothic romance about a quirky omega librarian starting his new job in a giant English country manor where he is forced to spend time with his handsome, mysterious alpha boss. I like how every omegaverse book just has its own lore, like no two omegaverses are the same, and this is no different - our alpha lord has a strange affliction that Jensen, our plucky protagonist has to figure out and it kind becomes the central plot point of this book. It's also quite funny that this book is set in our current universe, but make it a/b/o, because there are some some name checks that are pretty hilarious - like imagining Bear Grylls as either an alpha or omega. As far as characters go, Jensen is charming and funny, but his internal dialogue was a lot and I felt a little claustrophobic in his head at times. We do get Alfred's perspective as well, but mostly he was there as object of Jensen's deepest fantasies. It was very romantic though, and very, very slow burn. We only get some heat-related smut in the last 20% or so and it was a huge let-down, as well as being overwritten and corny. That said, I did enjoy the book for the most part. I was amused by Jensen and found the plot pretty entertaining. Hopefully we'll get more in this particular universe.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 because Jesse Reign has given me too much joy over the years for me to be fully objective.

I read omegaverse intermittently because there is so much of it and, let’s be honest, most of it delivers the same things: D/s dynamics, possessive MCs, lots of sex, high emotion, low complexity. Which is fine! Sometimes that is exactly what I want. A palate cleanser.

This book falls squarely into that category. I enjoyed it well enough while reading, but I don’t have many lingering thoughts, which is maybe the issue. Jesse’s books at their best stick with me because they’re funny as hell, emotionally sharp, and hot as fuck. Jensen’s internal monologue had flashes of that signature humor, but nowhere near peak Jesse for me.

The premise worked, but I found myself wishing the middle would move along a little faster. Alfie suppressing his alpha tendencies for such a huge chunk of the book started to drag, and I kept waiting for things to click.

I think Wilder’s book is next, and of course I will read it. But I’ll admit I’m hoping Jesse circles back to writing something meatier soon. I don’t begrudge any author the desire to write uncomplicated fluff (God knows I consume enough of it), but I genuinely think her talents are being underutilized here. She’s capable of books with much more emotional depth and sharper characterization, and selfishly, I hope she shares that version of her writing with us again.

And just like that, this has been another 5-star-read 🤯

I adored Gone Wild so much, and I started this book without much thinking about what to expect. This was such a soulful, beautifully written story and I was captured immediately by Alfie's story and background, since it was something very peerless.

Jensen starts to work for Alfie, or Lord Augustus, and he is immediately drawn to him, although he would totally deny that. There are some things that Alfie is hiding at first, and things change fast after the two of them don’t want to be separated anymore.

I adore omegaverse stories so much, add primal play and cute nicknames and it's immediately perfect in my opinion 🤍

Good Second Book

I liked the 2nd book in this omega verse world that Reign has created. Not as much as Lucien and Branson’s book, Gone Wild, but still a different approach within a theme. I didn’t mind the nicknames, little mouse and alpha. The attempt at a gothic Wuthering Heights setting on moors and in a large British estate was purposeful for the backdrop to the dreamer that is Jensen and the aristocratic ‘arsehole’ that is Alfie. The sex wasn’t as scorching in this book either. But it’s a solid book with Reign’s humour plus some unexpected pathos.

This was a wonderful next in series. I loved getting Jensen’s story after Lucian fell in heat with his brother.

Allie and Jensen are perfect. I was a big fan of them ‘falling’ as people, not so much as alpha and omega to start. Allie is a broody man who just needed Jensens life and golden retriever vibes breathes into him

This is a slow burn but when it hits, it really freaking hits. And it’s so delicious, bring them puppy pads.

Jesse knows what I want, and she just keeps delivering!

Jensen has big feelings, currently about his alpha brother mating his best friend. When he sulks off to Yorkshire to restore the library of a reclusive English lord, he becomes intrigued by the man’s beauty, lifestyle, and strange muted quality. Alfie, our beleaguered lord alpha, is equally fascinated by the omega Yank, but has dedicated himself to a lifetime of bachelorhood. Add one fake dating scheme and cue the shenanigans!

Repressed aristocrat meets chaotic American is a favorite of mine, and Alfie is as repressed as they come. He’s also deeply sweet and wildly hot. Seriously, the primal play in this book is some of the best I’ve read. We see a friendship develop between them that is just downright fun, as well as brimming with sexual tension. Featuring a unique scenario of alpha x omega dynamics, the book is a delightful snack.

Highly recommend for fans of omegaverse, forced proximity, and fake dating. This is the second book in the series and could be read as a standalone, but you really don’t want to miss Branson and Lucien in book one!

I adored this different quirky story! It feels almost like the author’s love letter to romance novels. There are Harlequin type period piece elements to it with the English countryside, Lord of the manor, and masquerade balls. There’s also a significant love of books shared between the two characters and literary references discussed which I found v endearing.

Then there’s the little bit of a twist in the alpha/omega dynamic with a forbidden element and soulmate vibes underneath it all. It’s OTT and a bit silly and I couldn’t put it down.

This is an omega-verse story that doesn’t rely on the fated element for the love connection and I adore this story for that.

Jensen ❤️ Alfie (Lord Alfred Augustus)

Jensen (omega) takes a job in England restoring the library in an old manor. The Lord of the manor is an alpha male who is stiff, formal and difficult to read. He also, for reasons we learn later, has no scent.

It is the story of these two men getting to know each other slowly and falling in love before realizing that they are fated mates.

😊 No third act breakup
🗣️No miscommunication driving the plot. Each share their stories w each other and, over time, feel safe together
👬🏽MM
❤️Gentle but intimidating alpha and chatty omega
😊Lots of humor. Jensen’s inner dialogue was so much fun to read.
👍Small moments - They are both on suppressants which allows them to put their biology aside and actually get to know each other as people first. Lots of small moments - the chasing thru the grounds/house, reading books together, all the awkward meals, etc.
🫣No OM/OW - There are these people that show up at the house wrecked and looking for Alfie (see below in spoilers). He is a bit distraught over it and we learn why. Jensen is a bit jealous but none of these people mean anything to Alfie.
➡️Strangers to mild dislike (Jensen) to intrigue (both) to friends to mates
😊Nicknames - my little mouse
😊Humor - as they got to know each other better, they genuinely liked each other and laughed together; seeing Alfie’s progression from stiff and formal to fun and playful was everything
🎭Pretend dating - Alfie is a lord and very sought after for a love match in his circle, which he detests. Jensen agrees to go with to various soirées as his Omega mate.
🏰Forced proximity - Jensen is living in Alfie’s Manor while he renovates the library.
❤️Fated mates but also bone deep love based on mutual interests and genuine care
🌶️Spice - this is a bit of a slow burn with some action along the way and then them getting together at the end for Jensen’s heat. Mild Primal play; knotting; bonding.
🥰All the yummy omegaverse stuff - growling, possessiveness, OTT care and worrying, the white arc when someone is lying and all the colors when they’re happy. Alfie as the happy possessive and obsessive alpha is pure joy
👥Dual POV; mostly Jensen in the beginning and then more Alfie toward the second half. HEA; mated

I really really loved this story. It’s corny and lovely and gooey and over the top romantic. 🥰 I hope you like it.

Spoilers ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️. Don’t read if you don’t want to know major spoilers

We learn that Alfie has something called the Casanova gene which makes omegas fall in love w his scent and believe that he is their fated mate. He does not reciprocate those feelings and feels compassion and guilt for their situation. For years he dreamed of finding his fated mate only to leave all these poor souls in his wake. For that reason, he gave up on finding love and went on suppressants. We see the toll it takes on him but also how it allows him and Jensen to know each other as people and believe in their bond before they “know” it’s real. There is a third act situation where Jensen is in danger and Alfie goes off his suppressants to he can use alpha senses to track him. What we already suspect becomes clear and we see their fated mate connection.

What in the Jane Austin did I just read? Omg Jensen and Alfie’s story was so swooony. I constantly imagined this in a Donwton Abby, nowadays kinda thing, but make it omegaverse. Jensen takes a job in England in hopes to escape his ex boyfriend and brother becoming mates. He is deeply hurt and lost. He accepts a job arranging/organising a library at this manor (sorry I just read it, but forgot the name) anywho there he meets the alpha Alfie and he is very peculiar alpha. Slowly their interactions became more friendly and worm. Ugghhh it was sweet and painful, but the more time they spent together, the more I was screaming at my e-reader. I loved when they were together in the library and when Jensen read stories to Alfie, or when Alfie recited favourite quotes from books. 🫠 I loved the thoughtfulness and care they had for each other. And there were a lot of funny bits, especially when Jensen first opens to Alfie and basically word vomits some things, I was cackling. Great read I can’t wait for the next when it eventually comes out. Oh my days what a ride!!!

Well that was just delightful! Definitely much more my vibe of omegaverse book than book 1.

Look if you’re like me and LOVE the second book in Alessandra Hazard’s omegaverse books (aka the one where it’s like Antony’s book on Bridgerton but with mm omegaverse) then this book is for you!

Jensen flees to the misty moors of Yorkshire after the end of book one to live out his best beauty & the beast meets Jane Austen fantasy! Luckily the stately home which he moves into and becomes the librarian/restoration specialist for is home to a mysterious Alpha…who calls Jensen “little mouse”

Anyways I ate this up in a single day, it was so fun! I actually liked that it was a less sex-focused plot than book one as well. Because the relationship growth & development felt more purposeful and less “thrown together due to a surprise heat”

*I received an arc copy of my book, all opinions are my own*

Love, love, love

Born Wild by Jesse H. Reign is book 2 in the Wild Hearts series. I have been waiting for this book since reading book 1 and it surpassed my expectations! I absolutely adored Jensen. An omega who lets his romantic gothic fantasies run rampant? We may have a few things in common. Lord Alfie was a little more difficult to get a read on (a brooding mysterious nobleman—yes please), but it was well worth the wait to see what was really going on. I love the parallels to all of Jensen’s favorite books and the time spent together in the library were some of my favorite moments of the books. It would have been nice to see Alfie meet Branson and Lucy. I really hope that we get to see Wilder’s (and Christian’s) story. This has been such an enjoyable series. I do love anything that Jesse brings us.

I received an ARC from the author for my honest review.

I usually love stories by this author, but unfortunately that's not the case here. This book left me feeling incomplete. The plot is interesting, I like the entire Alpha-Omega universe, but just as the first story had some uncertainties, this one does too. The first book was too focused on internal monologues and not much action, but this story has action and a development of events, but it happens quickly.
The problem is that this story is well-written but still leaves me with nothing. I wasn't passionate about the characters or the story, it just left me with superficial feelings. I wasn't even curious to continue reading. In short, it's not one of those books you read in one sitting and get excited about.
The characters and the development of events are bland. In short, there are Jesse stories like "Heart" that leave me with something, but this story doesn't.

4.5 stars rounded up. I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I read it in one sitting. Literally. I just couldn't put it down, it was so engaging, the characters were great and the setting was stunning. I'll admit I'm a bit surprised by the small amount of smut we get here, but when it happened it was so hot!! The ending felt a bit abrupt, I would've preferred a few chapters more, but honestly I enjoyed this one a lot, so... 🩷
Can't wait for the next book!!

Pretty great low angst and sweet omegaverse! Not as instalovey as the first book in the series. I also loved the idea behind Alfie’s designation. Kind of felt like Beauty and the Beast 😀

Once again, references to real books (Pride and Prejudice) makes zero logical sense to me considering it’s a different world, but whatever… it’s not that big of a deal.

another must read from JHR. Only she can write a sickeningly sweet love story and make it absolutely filthy at the same time. I loved Lord Augustus and his little mouse, it was the perfect escape from reality story.

It is obvious that I enjoy Jessie’s work and this book was not the exception.

The writing and atmosphere of this story is incredible, I felt like I was reading a modern fairy tale.

Jensen is such a fun character, he has this wild thoughts that make you laugh, he’s also very sweet and a bit of a hopeless romantic. On the other hand we have Lord Alfred Augustus the third, who is quite his opposite at the beginning.

The story flows well and the romance is so tender and sweet, just like we’ve come to love from Jesse’s stories.

💭 My Thoughts:
📖 Jesse somehow made this feel whimsical, emotional, cozy and incredibly hot all at once.
🌧🏰 The entire atmosphere of Beaumont Craven House completely enchanted me... the grand English mansion, the library, the gardens, the frosty mornings, the maze, Jensen’s dawn walks, the stables, the image of Alfie riding at dawn... it all felt dreamy and immersive. 🐦 I could almost hear the sounds of nature and the birds waking with the sunrise. So beautifully written, romantic and cinematic 🫠.

🫠 Jensen absolutely stole my heart. I love how he romanticizes EVERYTHING!
🖤 And Alfie... oh, this man. So restrained and so lonely. There’s something deeply melancholic about him that made every small moment of vulnerability hit so hard.
🫠 There’s something beautiful and special about the way Jens slowly brings warmth and light back into Alfie’s lonely life. Watching Alfie laugh, open up and genuinely enjoy someone’s company felt so emotional and rewarding.

🤌 Their dynamic is DELICIOUS. The tension, the caretaking, the fake dating (we all know where this is going 😏🤭), the tiny acts of affection... it all builds into something intensely romantic and intimate.
🔥 The spice is scorching hot!!
And the teasing and tempting each other like they know exactly what they do to one another... delicious to read. 🥵

💝 More than anything, I loved how this story feels like two lonely people slowly becoming friends, confidants... a safe place for each other.
🤗 The secondary characters? I adored them all!
This book made me laugh, emotional (I’m such a softie), and I can’t wait for the next one!
🎧 I couldn’t resist reading this while listening to countryside dawn sounds, birdsong, and gentle rain. It made the whole experience feel even more atmospheric and magical.

▪︎FAV QUOTES▪︎
■ "Lord Augustus appears in my field of vision like something out of a movie. His shirt is untucked, flapping behind him. There’s wind in his hair and he’s moving at speed, at one with his horse. (Jensen)👀

■ "A soft, low sound I feel more than hear. A gentle vibration that makes my jaw unclench.
“Good boy,” says a velvet voice.
I manage to fight the urge to say, “Who, me?”
Just.
Thank fuck for that because he’s talking to the horse." (Jensen)😅🤣

■ "Anyway, that’s why I go down to the stables in the mornings. To see Gregor. Mainly.
Every morning, without fail, I witness the alpha and the stallion dance together, and it’s beautiful. " (Jensen)😏

■ "He’s a curious little mouse. Quiet as can be as he scuttles around the stables at dawn, and even quieter when he roams the house at night." (Alfie)

■ “'Did you enjoy your run last night, little mouse?”
Oh fucking fuck.
Oh Jesus, take the wheel." (Jensen)🤣

😉 Thanks for reading hope this helps you out!

A rugged alpha, windswept Yorkshire moors, and a library with hordes of books available at any given moment? Sign me up!

It's off to Hutton-le-Hole, 𝒉𝒆𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒆, which highly amuses Jensen in Jesse H Reign's fabulous new release Born Wild.

Yes, Lucien’s ex-boyfriend and Branson’s brother from Gone Wild, Jensen Lawlor, has moved to England to escape after discovering the pair had mated. And so, he finds himself working for Alfie, or Lord Alfred Augustus the Third, at Beaumont Craven House.

Filled with Jesse's typical humour, I found myself often laughing out loud as I read Jensen and Alfie's story.

This book is so sweet; filled with an old-fashioned sweeping romance, yearning, and a touching tenderness between our MCs. Born Wild is emotional, heartwarming, funny, with a little bit of spice, and a beautiful couple who more than deserve their happily ever after.

This one took a different path to Gone Wild. Here, we have the most delicious slow burn between a delightful omega and his alpha.

There are still moments of spice, but their story was so much more intricate, and it certainly didn't lack anything as they steadily built a friendship, before discovering what they were to each other; fated mates.

Alfie, at first, seems to be standoffish. The pair spend over a month eating in basic silence. The only time Alfie shows any sign of life is with his horse, Gregor, where Jensen watches him dance and be playful in the shadows of the stables each morning - but only because Gregor is a wonderful horse 🤭

When Jensen finally loses his patience and asks to eat with the staff - a request denied by Alfie - he unleashes an amazing stream of consciousness and delivers his life story and every thought - including his thoughts on the village name of Hutton-le-Hole 🤣 and the pair find themselves finally talking to each other. Jensen, of course, loved that Alfie sided with him and was highly critical of his 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒍𝒚 ex-boyfriend and his 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒍𝒚 brother - Alfie's words, not Jensen's. But he also loved said ex and brother sympathising with his predicament with his boss, knowing they still love and care about him.

I laughed so hard at Branson’s: “𝙹𝚎𝚗𝚜𝚎𝚗! 𝚈𝚘𝚞 𝚊𝚛𝚎 𝚋𝚎𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚜𝚎𝚍𝚞𝚌𝚎𝚍. 𝙻𝚎𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝙴𝚗𝚐𝚕𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚑𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚊𝚝 𝚘𝚗𝚌𝚎!” 🤣🤣

But when omegas keep appearing in the dead of night, crying and calling for Alfie, Jensen is intrigued and after his "𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙡𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙗𝙚𝙙,” one time too many by '𝙗𝙚𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙜𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙨', he declares that he's Alfie's omega to get rid of them, and demands to know his story.

Poor Alfie has been through so much in his life, and my heart really hurt for him. Born with a gene mutation that basically acts as a curse and drives any omega in his presence to madness, it can only be cured if he finds his mate. But given that any omega scenting him believes they're his mate, it leaves him unable to find the one meant for him. Instead, he uses harmful suppressants, which leave him without a scent, but also going through life in a haze. He spends his days in a joyless, depressed existence, not able to even read or do the things he loves, other than spending time with Gregor.

Once these two know each other's secrets and stories, they come to trust one another, and Jensen slowly brings the real Alfie out of his shell. I loved getting to know the real Alfie and to see him have fun and being playful 🥹 And when Jensen started reading to him, my heart was so full 🥹😍

Getting inside Alfie's head was a real pleasure. It was great to see how aware he was of Jensen's presence at all times. His '𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆' wasn't as quiet creeping around as he thought he’d been 😆

Given Alfie's history, these two needed that slow burn and to really get to know one another inside out. They built their relationship in the perfect way until the attraction and chemistry between them was undeniable.

I really loved their playfulness, the 'fake dating', and the primal edge to their developing feelings; "𝙇𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙚... 𝙍𝙪𝙣!" 🔥🫠❤️‍🔥

It all culminated in the perfect way to these two being everything to each other. I adored how Alfie cared for and protected Jensen:

“𝑵𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒂𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝒎𝒚 𝒎𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆. 𝑰 𝒘𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆, 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒕𝒆. 𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒊𝒏 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆.”

And the necklace was perfect! 🥹😍

These two are so sweet and heartwarming. Jensen and Alfie's story is like a warm hug 🥰

I love the omegaverse world Jesse has created. The visible bond is just so beautiful ✨️ and I really hope we can return to this universe in the future.

“𝑰 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝒎𝒚 𝒎𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆.” 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒔 𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒔 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓. 𝑨𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚’𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒆𝒙𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒏’𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒘.

🐴 If You Are Not Too Long, I Will Wait Here For You All My Life 📚

"When I was made, something went a little awry with my wiring. For no discernible reason, wires got crossed, and fear feels like excitement to me."

"It's not that I want to look. It's just that I'm a slave to male beauty, and while this man seems like a bit of an a****** to me, he's a beautiful a******."

"He's a curious little mouth. Quiet as can be as he scuttles around the stables at dawn, and even quieter when he roams the house at night."

"Day after day, night after night, I'm a shadow. Someone I don't recognize. Someone I don't know."

"If you are not too long, I will wait here for you all my life."

"Who and what Jensen is exists around me, outside of me. And then things inside me light up all at once. My brain. My body. Signals fire. Senses detonate. The world around me bursts into color. It's beautiful. The most beautiful thing I've ever felt."

"You were so wrong. You don't smell like sex."
"Oh no? What do I smell like then?"
"You smell like home."

"More than you dared dream? No. That can't be right. I won't have that, my mouse. I'll simply have to make it my life's mission to make sure you dream bigger than you think possible."

"Does your heart ache too when you look into my eyes?"

"You're the safe place where I belong. You smell like shelter and warmth to me. Four walls and a ceiling. Home."

"They move like they're magic. Like they are speed. Like they're made of air and wind and muscle and bone. Like raw power, uncaptured and unharnessed. Like pretty words on a page. Like poetry written by hand. A stallion and an alpha dance together."

"It's everywhere. Burning bliss. Excruciating ecstacy. It's more than a body can take. More than a mind can handle. It's the call of the wild answered. It's my mate's body welcoming me home after a long time apart."

This was another phenomenal book by Jesse. This author really brings you into another world when you're reading her words. She has such a beautiful, lyrical style to her writing. This story seemed very different from her normal work, and I absolutely loved it. This story had a whimsical and historical feel yet also modern. It took you to a different time and was magical almost. This author writes omegaverse perfectly, and you definitely get immersed in the world you're reading. I loved that the spice was very intimate and beautiful in this one. We did get some primal kink that made it spicy, too 🥵. I loved the cameos of Lucien and Branson!

This story follows Jensen and Lord Alfie. Jensen took a job offer to England to restore books in a library of a manor to a lord. He wanted to get away to have some space between his ex/bff and his newly mated brother. Jensen has breakfast daily with the Lord Alfie, but they don't speak much or interact. Jensen thinks he is a snob and rude. Random omegas start showing up late at night screaming for Alfie. He wants to get to the bottom of this scentless alpha. He then asks to eat alone, and Alfie says no, he likes his presence. This makes Jensen happy, and he spews his whole life story and random facts 🤣🤣. From here on out, they spend more time together and get to know one another. He learns of Alfie's alpha affliction and why he's on suppressants. He learns about his traumatic past with his parents and why he wanted to find his love so bad, but now he can't due to the suppressants 😭. They pretend to be fake boyfriends to get the people and omegas off his back. But how long does the fake relationship last when feelings have been there all along? Jensen gets lost and hurt, causing Alfie to go off his meds, and now they can scent each other. Can Alfie finally find his mate to end the Casanova curse? Will Jensen end up folding and accept his feelings for his Lord?

These two were completely opposite yet had so much in common. Jensen has such an overactive imagination and talks/rambles a lot. His inner monologue was hilarious 😂. Alfie is quiet, reserved, respectful, and old-fashioned. He's so sweet and romantic. My heart breaks for what he had to continue to sacrifice. The connection between these two was other worldly and so perfect. The spicy scenes were so intimate and beautiful. I loved seeing their relationship progress on so many levels. There were a lot of swoony moments, but my favorite was when Jensen would read to Alfie 🥹🥹. I love how attentive and caring Alfie was to his little mouse. Seeing these two get their happy ending made me smile. This is such a fantastic series and I can't wait to see what Jesse does next. 🐴🐎📚🕯🏰🍵🍪🏃

🌶️🌶️🌶️

This book is like a cup of warm tea on a cold winter's night. It doesn't happen often that I come across a story that touches my heart and fills me with pure joy. This book is a masterpiece.

The writing, the characters, and the story carry that Old World charm – pure, restrained, yet full of warmth, with just a whisper of the modern world woven in. Reading it felt like stepping into an old English countryside, back to a time when courting your beloved was simply the way.

Jenson and Alfie are written so beautifully, I might cry. 🥹

Jenson is an omega in today's world who grew up reading old classics like Pride & Prejudice, Wuthering Heights and The Secret Garden. He longs for a love from a gentler era — when alphas courted their omegas, chased them with primal devotion, and claimed them for all to see.

When he meets Alfie, he is enamoured by his manners but mistakes his quiet reserve for coldness, and resolves to keep things strictly professional.

Yet for all his fairytale longings, Jenson carries a quiet apprehension. Watching Lucian — his beastly (as called by Alfie) ex-boyfriend/best friend and now his beastly (Alfie again) brother Brandon's mate — turn into an absolute simp the moment he bonded was equal parts amusing and alarming. If someone like Lucian could be reduced to that, Jenson wants no part of it. He is determined to never let an alpha have that kind of hold over him.

And then there is Alfie.
Lord Alfred Augustus — Alfie — is an alpha burdened by a fault in his DNA that functions almost like a curse. To protect those around him, he has suppressed himself so deeply that his mind stays foggy and his spirit subdued. He is a loner, finding solace mostly in the company of his horse, Gregor — yet he remains unfailingly respectful toward Jenson and the staff alike.

Jenson decides the safest thing is to keep his distance. What he doesn't know is that Alfie has already grown quietly fond of him and cherishes every shared meal. As time passes, an easy friendship forms. Alfie opens up about his condition and his past, and Jenson slowly realises he is falling — but with Alfie's limitations, he sees no path forward.

Their shared love of books deepens the ache; Alfie recites lines from his favourite books, and Jenson falls even harder.

Where Jenson is open-hearted and speaks without a filter, Alfie carries himself with careful restraint. But with Jenson beside him, Alfie begins to rediscover himself — laughing, watching TV, simply enjoying life again. And Jenson's iron resolve? Alfie dismantles it quietly, unhurriedly, without either of them quite realising it.

The best part? There is no third-act breakup — and I genuinely despise those — so the story stays cosy and warm from beginning to end.

The spice, when it exists, is more a matter of physical relief than intimacy; there is no real emotional charge or mutual arousal until much later. In fact, the first kiss doesn't arrive until around the 78% mark — and yet it never feels like something is missing. The story itself is so swoony that it doesn't need heat to keep you warm.

It's a beautiful slow-burn romance that stays warm throughout.

As expected, this was a magnificent book — something very different to what Jesse usually writes, but every bit as good. Highly recommended.

"I think part of me might have known who you were to me, even when the rest of me was too drugged to recognize you."

Born Wild by Jesse H. Reign

This book gave me all of the FEELS!!! Oh my god, this story was so sweet, tender, and absolutely beautiful. I definitely recommend listening to the audiobook of the first book, Gone Wild, because it introduces Jensen, Lucien’s “beastly” ex, along with his equally “beastly” brother, Branson. It created such a smooth and emotional transition into this book when Jensen realizes he can’t stay in Seattle anymore and decides to leave.

What I adored most about this story was how poetic it felt. The yearning, the selflessness, the grief of mourning a future you dreamed about since childhood—it was all written so beautifully. Jensen and Alfie’s relationship was built on such honesty, openness, and genuine friendship, and watching that connection slowly deepen into something more was incredible. As painful as it was seeing Jensen process his ex-boyfriend mating with his brother, his HEA was truly worth the wait because Alfie was worth the wait. This man loves so tenderly and so profoundly; he loves like poetry.

I felt so deeply for Jensen when he discovered the truth about his brother and ex. That kind of heartbreak is not easy to process, so I completely understood why he accepted the job offer and moved to England. Even though he never intended for England to become his permanent home, someone very special made sure it became exactly that, his boss. Learning that his alpha boss had no scent, and then discovering the heartbreaking reason why, added so much emotional depth to the story. Jensen agreeing to pretend to be Alfie’s omega to keep matchmaking families away was such a perfect setup because it gave them the chance to truly know each other beyond appearances and expectations.

Yes, boundaries blurred, but what made their relationship so special was the friendship that formed alongside the romance. They learned each other’s fears, dreams, and vulnerabilities, and by the time panic and desperation forced Alfie to reclaim his scent in order to find Jensen, their bond already felt undeniable. That moment was breathtaking because their bodies, minds, and instincts all knew the same truth, they belonged to each other.

And Alfie… my heart absolutely broke for this man. From the devastating truth about his parents, to his vow to only bite out of love, to the dreams he buried about caring for his mate in his chambers, everything about his story hurt in the best way. Watching those dreams finally become reality with Jensen was so emotional and rewarding. Alfie took his vow seriously. The way he cherished Jensen, cared for him emotionally and physically, and loved him with such devotion made him feel like the kind of man people write poetry about. I adored him so much, and I’m so glad he never gave up on finding his happiness.

I adore this series so much. From the first book to this one, I’ve fallen in love with every character and every relationship. The love in these books feels so refreshing and genuine, even within the fantasy of the omega world. Jesse’s writing in this universe feels magical, and while she mentioned at the end of book two that she wasn’t sure if she would continue the series, I truly hope she does because I am beyond excited for Wilder’s story!!!

Absolutely delightful. Delicious. Adorable. Effervescent. Beautifully silly. Polietely kinky. Demurely spicy. Not really slow, not very fast, setting just the right pace. And of course, very... Reign-y.

So happy!

I mentioned (at least a few times) my opinion on omegaverse. Spoiler alert, it's not flattering. If this was my first book on Alpa-Omega dynamics, okay, it wouldn't make as much sense or be as enjoyable I suppose but I'd say it's an interesting added layer to add to both the romantic and carnal side of any relationship. This is what one might call a tame version and I only say that because the alpha manages to be gallant (and later worshipful) while being... Alpha. Big, confident, take-charge...

To go on a small tangent, one of the reasons gay romance has become such a female... thing is the perceived safety of the whole process and A/o presents such a clear version you cannot even call it heteronormative (though it is the very definition of it). In real life, there are all kinds of couples but romance tends towards strapping guys, tall and strong, and willowy girls, on the short side and sweet. But of course there's the patriarchy stuff so some of us become disillusioned and feel insulted and frustrated by such images. Alphas are the romantic ideal of a man, omegas are small, supposed to be sweet, bottom and can sometimes get pregnant. Except they¨re both men and something about that makes it okay. Like returning so something you didn't reject because it was inherently wrong but because some parts of it were so toxic you can no longer look at it without seeing the rot beneath.

And this version of Alpha-ship and Omega-ness is different from others yet I would call it the best version of what it could be. I would call the Alfie the ideal of what masculinity could be and Jensen the interesting balance of care and cared, sweet and snarky that seems so hard to find.

I am rambling, aren't I? I guess Jensen is still in my head somewhere.

Oh and he is a book-dragon, by the way. He has read books and he reads books and it's not his entire identity but it may be big part of it in the best way and his love interest has also read books and respects that. Like, I don't want every MC to be a book-dragon but gosh, it's nice to find it once in a while and this was GREAT.

The special thing Alfie had going on? The conflict? And his little society problem? Gosh, what a briliant idea.

I mean, ok, this plot was paper-thin but the previous book had even less plot and was filled with sooo many naked scenes and I adored it anyway and this one feels like an evolution, an entire step in some new direction while being completely the same and of course, Reign.

Sometimes you click with a certain writing style in a way that goes beyond thoughts and reason. I had some cases, some of them faded, some of them stayed (or have not faded just yet) and Reign seems to cement herself more firmly in this category with each book. She called this a diversion, a fun exercise and you know you've found a good one when the author "not trying" makes you go "weeeeee" as much as their regular books.

This was one big ball of fluff, romantic notions, moody countryside and an English noble mostly having meals together and falling in love. Just... yes, recommend, next one mmm *squeal* insert emojis, please and thank you!
