As Hinohara’s battle against his tormentor Kadowaki rages on, Shinsho Kannagi and Akachi continue their epic fight to the finish! Kannagi is determined to take his Hayagami back from Akachi and make him submit, but the price of winning comes at a terrible price…especially when Akachi reveals his shocking confession!
Yuu Watase (渡瀬悠宇) is a Japanese shoujo manga-ka. She is known for her works Fushigi Yūgi, Alice 19th, Ceres: The Celestial Legend, Fushigi Yūgi Genbu Kaiden and Absolute Boyfriend. She likes all music, except heavy metal and old traditional music.
She received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōjo for Ceres, Celestial Legend in 1997. Since writing her debut short story "Pajama de Ojama" ("An Intrusion in Pajamas"), Watase has created more than 80 compiled volumes of short stories and continuing series. Because of her frequent use of beautiful male characters in her works, she is widely regarded in circles[which?] as a bishōnen manga artist.[citation needed] In October 2008, Watase began her first shōnen serialization, Arata: The Legend in Weekly Shōnen Sunday. Her name is romanized as "Yû Watase" in earlier printings of Viz Media's publications of Fushigi Yūgi, Alice 19th, and Ceres, The Celestial Legend, while in Viz Media's Fushigi Yūgi Genbu Kaiden and Absolute Boyfriend her name is romanized as "Yuu Watase". In Chuang Yi's English-language versions of Fushigi Yugi (spelled without a macron or circumflex), her name is romanized as "Yu Watase".
This volume is all about the battle between Kannagi and Akachi. It's a good battle and we learn something really interesting about Akachi when all is said and done. Some of the relationships are also changed from the beginning to the end of this book. It looks like the fight between Kadowaki and Arata will change ground somewhat. A friend of Arata is now potentially his foe and Arata is also betrayed (maybe?) by another friend (is he a friend though?).
There are a couple of reasons that I gave this volume only three stars though. The biggest reason is that I think there is a typo. For at least an entire chapter of the book, Akachi's hayagami is referred to as Orochi. However, Orochi is hayagami of Kadowaki. Akachi's hayagami is Okoro. This was confusing. I also had a tough time following what was going on in the (art for the) battle between Kannagi and Akachi.
The best part of this volume is the short essay at the end from the author. She talks about Akachi and explains his background in more depth. She makes some interesting points and it certainly got me thinking.
This one was actually super emotional and really good. Definitely my new favorite volume from the entire series, especially with the cliffhanger it left at the end.
man watase is way too good at finding ways to make you sympathize with dudes who did stone cold evil things
like halfway through this volume, with the battles against akachi and kadowaki building i was like 'my god, these guy are wastes, the hell is wrong with you akachi; killing people for your stupid defeat kannagi quest. and you, kadowaki! oh woe, the kid you bullied didn't respond the way you wanted him to, inequality!!!'
and then watase dropped the reveal that akachi and i was like ugh, still a bad dude but i guess that complicates things a little
Really left me on a cliff hanger here. I want to know why Hiruha want's these people out so badly. What's his agenda??
Also I thought the whole Kannagi and Akachi thing was really nice. I'm glad that they were able to resolve things. I was hoping Kannagi would get to be with Emisu, but it turns out she loved Akachi. Who knows maybe the Emisu look alike will be Kannagi's future love.
I was said to see Kannagi break away from the group. I thought that maybe he'd stay. Although there still is time for him to change his mind. I like him in the group. Arata and him have very good chemistry.
There was definitely a lot more fighting and less humor in this volume, but it was amazing nonetheless. The art is beautiful and Watase puts such thought and feeling into her characters and their stories! I really feel that Watase is trying to teach as well as entertain, which is more than can be said for a lot of things today... that's my opinion anyway.
Anyway, good good good! Can't wait for the next one!
Kannagi/Akachi showdown, yeaaah! ... Even if Watase's shoujo story-telling roots are clearly showing, this was still a nice wrap-up for those guys
and the thing is, with as much history as we've been getting on the ShinSho, its still not quite clear why they would want the Princess dead. So far only 1 guy had the clearest motive (and even that was wildly distorted thru his own issues)
Did nobody else notice that Akachi's weapon Okoro was consistently called Orochi throughout this volume? I noticed that there's a new editor for this series and maybe the new person wasn't familiar with the names of the hayagami yet? It's annoying though, and I kinda want to cross out the incorrect use of Orochi and replace it with Okoro instead.
The introduction of new characters, a jump or two in plot development, and the concept itself keep me coming back to Arata, but formulaic confrontations are starting to get old. Akachi and Kannagi's battle proceeded and ended exactly as I thought it would; even the conclusion with the twist was predictable. Ho hum. I still want to know how this series will end but my enthusiasm is waning.
(12-13) yeahhhh this series kind of went downhill with these two... I thought the story went kind of stupid. The series as a whole has a lot of flaws, but these two were even worse...
Kadowaki leaves the other Sho and goes his own way. Kannagi learns the truth of his childhood friend. the fighting continues and Kannagi gets his lost demon back.
