Yuu Watase (渡瀬悠宇) is a Japanese shoujo manga-ka. She is known for her works Fushigi Yūgi, Alice 19th, Ceres: The Celestial Legend, Fushigi Yūgi Genbu Kaiden and Absolute Boyfriend. She likes all music, except heavy metal and old traditional music.

She received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōjo for Ceres, Celestial Legend in 1997. Since writing her debut short story "Pajama de Ojama" ("An Intrusion in Pajamas"), Watase has created more than 80 compiled volumes of short stories and continuing series. Because of her frequent use of beautiful male characters in her works, she is widely regarded in circles[which?] as a bishōnen manga artist.[citation needed] In October 2008, Watase began her first shōnen serialization, Arata: The Legend in Weekly Shōnen Sunday.
Her name is romanized as "Yû Watase" in earlier printings of Viz Media's publications of Fushigi Yūgi, Alice 19th, and Ceres, The Celestial Legend, while in Viz Media's Fushigi Yūgi Genbu Kaiden and Absolute Boyfriend her name is romanized as "Yuu Watase". In Chuang Yi's English-language versions of Fushigi Yugi (spelled without a macron or circumflex), her name is romanized as "Yu Watase".

There are some very interesting things in this volume.

We learn more about a major, past event that had been mentioned in previous volumes but never described in depth. Winning the battle in this volume requires Arata and the other shinsho to work together.

The best development in this volume comes from the Six Sho. We learn more about who they are and what they actually want. It looks like they are going to be the focus going forward and I am excited to see what happens with them!

We don't get to see what Arata is doing in Japan but I have a feeling that he'll be back in the next volume!

Wow, so Hiruha and Rami died. They weren't my favorite characters, but I hate when people start dying. Because when that happens it never stops and then some of my favorite characters start dying. I really wish Kanate would come back. I liked him.

The look on Kannagi's and Yataka's face was priceless when they saw Mikusa finally dressed as a girl.

I have a bad feeling about the six sho. Arata is going to have a rough battle ahead of him fighting them all. I want to know what they meant about switching places. Are they also from the human world??

this is a volume about how transgressing heteronormative gender roles is bad and you had better shape up or die

(yes, i'll acknowledge that there's more nuance to it than that but like. hiruha and rami die, mikusa goes back to dressing like a girl. you add that up with the dickish gay jokes at hiruha's expense in earlier volumes and what you get is an increasingly nasty subtext to this series)

despite my opening with this, those events constitute a pretty minor part of the volume. there's nothing else that really stands out to me about the story right now though. 2.5 stars

So get a flashback and two dead (?) characters making a short cameo appearance. CLASSIC WATASE.

I really do wish Viz gets a better editor/copyeditor/proofreader for this series. I know I'm one of fifteen people reading it, but it's not fair that there are so many inconsistencies and misspellings with the names all over the place. I never thought I would see the day when I would criticize Viz for a sloppy script translation.

Kannagi's still around, so I guess I'll stick with this series some more. This one was less of a bother than the last. Nice to see all the cute Shinsho and Zokusho together and stuff.
