Carolyn Keene is a writer pen name that was used by many different people- both men and women- over the years. The company that was the creator of the Nancy Drew series, the Stratemeyer Syndicate, hired a variety of writers. For Nancy Drew, the writers used the pseudonym Carolyn Keene to assure anonymity of the creator.

Edna and Harriet Stratemeyer inherited the company from their father Edward Stratemeyer. Edna contributed 10 plot outlines before passing the reins to her sister Harriet. It was Mildred Benson (aka: Mildred A. Wirt), who breathed such a feisty spirit into Nancy's character. Mildred wrote 23 of the original 30 Nancy Drew Mystery Stories®, including the first three. It was her characterization that helped make Nancy an instant hit. The Stratemeyer Syndicate's devotion to the series over the years under the reins of Harriet Stratemeyer Adams helped to keep the series alive and on store shelves for each succeeding generation of girls and boys. In 1959, Harriet, along with several writers, began a 25-year project to revise the earlier Carolyn Keene novels. The Nancy Drew books were condensed, racial stereotypes were removed, and the language was updated. In a few cases, outdated plots were completely rewritten.

Other writers of Nancy Drew volumes include Harriet herself, she wrote most of the series after Mildred quit writing for the Syndicate and in 1959 began a revision of the first 34 texts. The role of the writer of "Carolyn Keene" passed temporarily to Walter Karig who wrote three novels during the Great Depression. Also contributing to Nancy Drew's prolific existence were Leslie McFarlane, James Duncan Lawrence, Nancy Axelrod, Priscilla Doll, Charles Strong, Alma Sasse, Wilhelmina Rankin, George Waller Jr., and Margaret Scherf.

Bess should be on the cover of this one!

The setting was unique, but there weren't a lot of suspects so the mystery was quite easy to solve.

Still it was pretty creative - the setting is a zoo, the motive is money and family secrets, and the victims are civets.

The book was about a mystery case about how there were animals that disappeared from the zoo, those animals were exotic animals from the African jungle. They say that they were stolen by a kind of zoo keeper he was there for doing some research on this exotic animal. He said that he was going to Africa but since they were at the zoo he went there to do his research. The investigator was one of the most famous investigator it was Nancy Drew. She was there to help her bestfriend’s boyfriend to get him clear out from this case.

The author of this book first she introduce all the characters, how the characters acted, how all the suspicious about Nancy Drew best friend's boyfriend about how he could have stolen the exotic animals so he can benefit from those animals, or the other suspicious of how people might want to make him look bad due to that his research is going to be a better one. It creates suspense because you don’t know who actually did it till you read the hole book.

I like the book it was a good mystery book. I like the suspense that the author of the novel put on it it was a good book to read. There were real good explanation like the one when he calls and gives the detail of how Nancy’s friend acts.

I love the Nancy Drew files series. They stakes are so much higher than regular Nancy Drews.
Also, Bess is the best character.

Nancy tries to track down why some civets have gone missing from the local zoo. Bit of a dumb mystery!
